Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the LORD will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” NLT Ge 22:14.

You will encounter a wall several times over your life. A wall where you get stuck in your faith, where your faith doesn't seem to work any more. These walls are (actually) opportunities for you to let go of power and control and to actually TRUST God. We Americans have a hard time with this - because we think things ought to be easier than they are and because we are terrible at waiting.

Genesis 22:1-18 New Living Translation (NLT) Abraham’s Faith Tested. 1. Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.” 2. “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.” 3. The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about. 4. On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5. “Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.” 6 So Abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on Isaac’s shoulders, while he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them walked on together. 7. Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?” 8. “God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together. 9. When they arrived at the place where God had told him to go, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. Then he tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. 10. And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. 11. At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!” 12. “Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.” 13. Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. 14. Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” 15. Then the angel of the Lord called again to Abraham from heaven. 16. “This is what the Lord says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that. 17. I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants[a] beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. 18. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.”

Abraham had a relationship with God. God did not have to go searching for him as He did Adam. The stuff of life is often what separates us from God. We don't need to be concerned about the stuff; when we seek God first and are obedient to Him; Gd add the things we have need of.
Today, Pastor Marc Sharp continues our current series looking at the six key figures in the book of Genesis, the first book in the Bible. So far, we’ve looked at Adam, Noah and Abraham. Abraham's story continues today with his son Isaac as a key figure in God's promises. Listen to discover the parallel story to Jesus and what it means for us as Christians.

Our mission at Community Church of Greenwood is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and live in full devotion to Him. We want to help people far from God to experience new life in Jesus Christ.
Superhero movies are always fun. Watching people, who look totally normal on the outside, get to do super cool things, and even do some good in the process, is just awesome. The truth, however, is that all of the superhero stories are born out of a great personal struggle. Through their triumphant stories of overcoming hardship, can we really change our own real lives?
His Only Son
We all want to know the will of God for our lives. Yet sometimes that will seems a little confusing and we can't understand it. While the situations around us may be confusing the promises of God are never changing and never failing. Abraham shows what a faith in God looks like even when God is confusing and doesn't make sense.

Here is the story about Abraham and Issac. The familiarity of the story can cloud our understanding if we don't look closely. Here we review the text in the order God gives it to us. The text teaches us something about the relationship between faith and works.
The Sacrifice of Isaac 22 After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. 5 Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy[a] will go over there and worship and come again to you.” 6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. 7 And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” 8 Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together. 9 When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” 13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”;[b] as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”[c] 15 And the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven 16 and said, “By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his[d] enemies, 18 and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”
