What does Yahweh Yireh mean? What does Yahweh Ropheka or Yahweh Rophe mean? Rabbi Schneider shares that El Shaddai, God Almighty, was the name known prior to revealing His covenant name, Yahweh. Yahweh's name is used over 7,000 times in the Old Testament. In Hebrew, there are no vowels. Learn how the scribes hid the name of God to prevent gentiles from using God's name in blasphemous ways. In the ancient Hebrew language, there was no "J" sound. As language changes forms, we see how the accent markings and the new sounds caused the gentile church to mispronounce the personal name of God. Yahweh Yireh (God Will Provide) is a combination that God does with His name to show you what He will do. Know this so that you will learn to trust Yahweh Yireh. Genesis 22 is one of the most monumental in the life of the father of the "father bof the faithful", Abraham. We are amazed by the number of high points in this great man's journey in faith; but there is none greater than in this 22nd chapter (cited by Paul in Hebrews 11:17-19; which tells us that the incident speaks of resurrection - and typically of the beloved, only begotten son of promise; our Lord Jesus Christ. Abraham is afforded a great privilege in this incident in being able to understand to a small extent how the Father felt when He gave His only begotten Son, because "God so loved the world" (John 3:16-19). The chapter in Genesis emphasises the oneness that existed between Father and Son (verses 3, 5, 7-9, 16-17, 19) emblematic of the unity of purpose in our redemption that was between our Sovereign and His incomparable Son. The chapter indicated that this was a trial, or testing of Abraham; because of the preciousness of a faith that has overcome. Abraham could have rationalised the Almighty does not mean what He has asked of men, since the fulfilment of the promise is to be through Isaac. Or alternatively, he said I don't know why God has asked me to offer my son; but I trust Him, Who cannot fail those whose trust is in Him. But the trauma and the wrestling with his thoughts, all night long that is why Abraham, with steely resolve, rose early in the morning. This expression in the Bible speaks of determination - sometimes for good, as here and, in Yahweh's sending of the prophets to aid His people; or, for evil as in the episode of the golden calf. Everything was prepared beforehand in readiness by Abraham, who was most likely numbed by the daunting task ahead of him. Though he knew not how it would be, yet Abraham was confident that both he and Isaac would come back to the place where they left their companions (Hebrews telling us Abraham's expectation was that Isaac would be raised from the dead). Note that the journey to the place of sacrifice was of 3 days; representing the 3 year ministry that would see our Lord undertake, with His Father's help, to Calvary. It also no doubt relates to the death of Isaac and is symbolic of Jesus being in the grave for three days. We see the cooperation between father and son. Isaac was totally compliant with his father's will; which as a man of about 30 years of age (and a father who was 130 years old); it was because the son understood the need that the father's will be done - we can hear God's Son in Gethsemane, "Not as I will, but Thy will be done". The place of Isaac's "offering" has two names in this chapter: 1) Moriah (meaning Yahweh will provide); and, 2) Yahweh Yireh (meaning Yahweh will be seen - teaching us that in the redemptive act symbolised by Abraham requiring Isaac's submission to the Father's will. As Abraham raised the knife to slay his son he was stopped by the voice of the angel preventing the sacrifice, as verses 11-12 tell us. Though Abraham was allowed to spare his only beloved son, Yahweh did not spare His own Sonslowly read aloud Romans 8:31-39. Reflect deeply on what these words are teaching us about the love of our Sovereign and His Son towards us. God has already vastly exceeded any gift He has given believers. The greatest work has already been done in providing a basis for our forgiveness and the extension of divine grace. We may be assured that if the Father has given His Son then, what remains to bring us into His Kingdom is comparatively incidental). Yahweh now sealed an on oath on His own existence that Abraham's promise is immutable(Hebrews 6:13-20). Abraham's seed would "possess the gate of his enemies"; indicating, firstly, Christ's victory over sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:12-28); and, secondly, the subjugation of all nations to his rule in the coming kingdom. The chapter concludes with details of children being born to Nahor, Abraham's brother, in Haran. Chapter 23 of Genesis tells of Sarah's death and burial in the cave of Machpelah (meaning enfolded - the burial place of 3 generations of the faithful patriarchal family - Sarah and Abraham; Isaac and Rebekah; Jacob and Leah) in Beersheba ("the well of the covenant"). The irony being that Abraham, who by promise owned the land of Israel, had to buy a burial place for his wife (see Acts 7:4-5).Psalm 26 tells us David's love for his God. The Psalmist delights in every opportunity to extol the virtues of his Sovereign. David also tells of his detesting of the ways of the wicked. Psalm 27 speaks of the LORD being the light (revealer of what is right and honourable) and salvation (the process of saving and bringing to His kingdom of the faithful believers). The writer tells of the Almighty's capacity to defend the upright. He speaks of his Creator's pull on the writer's heart to seek fellowship with his God. And the Psalm concludes with a love and loyalty to his God which exceeds that of any human bond. David encourages himself in the assurance that his God will not see him abandoned into the hand of his foes. Wait he says on Yahweh; you will never be disappointed by taking this course. Psalm 28 says that, "Yahweh is the strength and shield" of the psalmist. The thoughts are similar to God's consoling promise to Abraham at the start of Genesis 15. The confidence of knowing God is always with, and surrounding His children with His all powerful arms. Yahweh will repay both the wicked and the righteous according to their works (Romans 2:5-11). The response that such understanding generates in God's people is outlined in verses 6-9. Slowly read aloud; and pause and ponder. In chapter 14 of Matthew Herod is struck with terror on hearing of the miracles of Jesus. Herod Antipas, a convert of the Sadducees (and therefore a non believer in the resurrection of the dead) was convinced that John the Baptist had been raised from the dead. Our Lord is told of John's brutal decapitation and in response responds by seeking solitude to reflect. This is interrupted by a multitude seeking him out and he compassionately responds to their need of a shepherd to teach them. He feeds 5,000 of them and heals  many. John 6 tells us that their desire was to take him by force and make him their king. Jesus summarily dispersed the crowd and went into a mountain to pray. He sent the Apostles by boat to the other side of the lake. When the storm arose he came to them walking on the water. Peter alone showed the faith and courage to briefly do likewise. He was rescued by his Master. Finally upon reaching the other side of the lake Jesus healed many at Gennesaret.

Wisdom, Pt. 7 | October 20, 2024Pastor Wes Morris Proverbs 3:1-6 (NLT) My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation.Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.Genesis 22:1-14 (NLT) Some time later, God tested Abraham's faith. “Abraham!” God called.✓  WE LEARN TO TRUST GOD IN THE TRIALS. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.” “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. ✓  THE DEPTH OF OUR FAITH IS REVEALED WHEN WE ARE TESTED. “Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.” So Abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on Isaac's shoulders, while he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them walked on together, Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?” “God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together. When they arrived at the place where God had told him to go, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. Then he tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”“Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!” “Don't lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.”Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”).✓  TRIALS STRENGTHEN OUR FAITH AND DRAW US CLOSER TO GOD.I CHOOSE TO TRUST GODI. So let it grow, and don't try to squirm out of your problems. For when your patience is finally in full bloom, then you will be ready for anything, strong in character, full and complete. II. It was so bad we didn't think we were going to make it. We felt like we'd been sent to death row, that it was all over for us. As it turned out, it was the best thing that could have happened. Alright, today we are looking at something from the first book of the Bible, Genesis, and next week we'll be in Exodus…maybe I should run with this and go through one  promise from each book of the Bible. Yeah, I may just do that. Let's check out today's promise. GIVEAWAY ENTRY Recipes for A Sweet Child by Katie J. Trent Summer 2023 Prayer Retreat $7 Ticket  You're listening to The Burt (Not Ernie) Show, part of the Spark Network, now playing in the Edifi app. This is episode number 151, and it is sponsored by Katie J. Trent and her new book, Recipes for A Sweet Child - 36 Baking Devotions for the Whole Family (a book of creative, Bible based activities and you can learn more at the link right here in the show notes).  I tell you what, I really love God's word. Which means I really love the promises God makes in His word. Genesis 22:14 contains a promise that many of us know, but we might not know the exact context of this promise, the where and how of its origin.   Jehovah Jireh. I'm thinking you've heard that before. And you probably know what it means, Provider. Jehovah Jireh is the Lord God who provides for His people.   So this is from Genesis 22 verse 14. I'm going to read it from the Amplified Bible today, and probably also from the NLT, and then look at the context because the situation all around this verse can really help us to be bold in our faith and in our praying and consistent and quick in our obedience to God.    The AMP says: So Abraham named that place. The Lord Will Provide. And it is said to this day, “On the mountain of the Lord it ]will be seen and provided.”   Okay, some things to notice in this version but first let me read from the NLT: Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”   Just a bit of difference between the two.   We find this in the story, the true story which is a one-of-a-kind true story, ya know? Abraham is on the mountain why? What's he doing there? He is there with his son Isaac, the son God promised him and who came in his very old age, after the side step when he and Sarah put into place the plan for him to have a child with her servant Hagar, who was the mother of Ishmael…but later on, Sarah did have a son, Isaac, and now some time later, years later, Abraham heeded God's call to take his son Isaac up on this mountain to, ahem, sacrifice him. On the journey up, just Abraham and his son at this point because he had told his servants to wait for them, they would finish this part on their own, and Isaac said to his father, not a direct quote here I'm saying it from memory of having read this in my Bible, Isaac said to his father, Father, the fire is here and the wood (because they brought those along with them), but where is the sacrifice? Like, dad, I see most of what we'll need but uh what about the actual sacrifice? Where's that? And Abraham answered and said God would provide it.    So up on the mountain, Abraham ties up Isaac, and hey not totally sure Isaac's age, but Abraham was for sure an old man and Isaac likely was old enough to fight this process, ya know? But it does not look as if he did…did he allow himself to be tied up? Seeing his father raise the knife and maybe saw his own reflection in that knife? Isaac had a part to play in all of this too, and I want to make sure we notice his faith in God, how did that play out in his life? Do you think he ever forgot this moment?     After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. 5 Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy[a] will go over there and worship and come again to you.” 6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. 7 And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” 8 Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together. 9 When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” 13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”;[b] as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”[c] Even in this impossible thing, Abraham got up early in the morning to obey. Quick obedience even in the hardest thing of his entire life, hands down. What can you and I learn from this? How's my obedience?  It was a  three day journey to get there (and hey, three days journey, three days Jonah was in the belly of the whale, both of which remind me of Jesus' three days in the tomb…I often look for things that point to Jesus when I read in the Old Testament. It's incredibly encouraging when we see glimpses of the Messiah, isn't it? And when we see the faithfulness of our God, which we see here, it is of tremendous value and strengthens our personal faith.) So this was a long journey knowing what lay ahead. Man, talk about a tough time, confusing, what's God doing in all of this?  Then they arrived at the place God told him to go and Abraham built the altar, laying the wood in order and binding Isaac and placing him on top of the wood. Talk about do or die time, I think that phrase could have originated in Genesis 22. Wowza! He reached out his hand, took the knife to slaughter his son. This is in the Bible, my friends! Like God does not sugarcoat and the Bible is not a board book for babies, ya know? It's not lift the flap for a happy surprise. It's just real, and often if we read it enough and read all of it, not just the parts we choose to read, but read it and study it, like Bible study involves some study (I have known of women's Bible study groups that spent more time gossiping then they ever spent actually studying the Bible, so hey, word to the wise, that's not the Bible study you want to attend, might want to be quick on your feet and find another one…) Real study of the Bible takes us into real life, real fast. At that moment, the angel of the Lord told him not to lay a hand on the boy, because God had seen Abraham's obedience and his fear of the Lord. He didn't withhold his son, the son of promise, and that promise came directly from God.   A few things we can note here - our children, they are not to be “off limits” to God. They do not come before the Lord in our lives, at least they ought not to. God knew Abraham's heart, his total obedience, and so of course the Lord knew Abraham would completely obey in this hard thing, but this was on display for every single future generation via being recorded in the Torah and the Bible. It's likely that all practicing Jews know this bit of history. Most all Chrsitians do, too. What does it show us, reveal to us, about God? He sees. He sees us obeying Him, even when it makes no sense, we cannot understand what He might be doing, we are confused, we are hurting, we are at a loss, and we cannot make this make sense to ourselves or to those around us asking us, “Why would a kind, good, loving God ask this of you?” He sees when we just obey, even when it's costly, even when it hurts, even when it seems to be totally misaligned with who God is (like, this seems like child sacrifice and that is not of God, right? He abhors such a thing!). And we also see that it's kind of like God said, Abraham, it won't be your son, but it will be Mine. A foreshadowing of what was to come, of what Jesus would do at Calvary. Yeah, the story surrounding verse 14 is tremendous. People's stories matter, much more than we often realize. But God, He always realizes the toll things take, how long our journey to our own Mount Moriah can be, and how much we've sacrificed in our quest to be obedient to the Lord's call on our lives. God sees, my friend. Please don't forget that, not ever.   Abraham raised his eyes, and boom, there was a ram caught in the thicket. Born and raised in the briar patch for this very moment, you might say.   So Abraham called that place, “The Lord will provide” When God says WILL, He means it! Jehovah Jireh is the name given to God in this text. And we should make note of the names of God when we find them in the Bible. They tell us who He is, His character, they guide us in how we ought to pray based on who He is, because He is not a man that He should lie or change His mind and there is no shadow of turning with Him, so who He says He is, that's exactly who He is. Often when I watch my sweet grandbaby, as he coos and chats I'll say to him, “That's exactly right.” Today I'm saying this to you: God is Jehovah Jireh, on your Mount Moriah, right there, after your long journey of obedience and the hardest thing you've ever faced, but you did it, you faced it, you laid it all down at the feet of Jesus. That is where God will provide. That's exactly right, man. Don't you forget that.   The true story of Abrham and Isaac on Mount Moriah must grow our faith and our obedience, our trust must lead to a trust fall with the Lord. Otherwise, what's it for? Faith and trust are not for nothing, for no purpose. They are to be used fully, and will never be used up or worn thin. And so we need to put them to work, and work them out daily in our lives. Seen True Grit? Too thin, Rooster is a line from that movie and from the book - God never stretches His words til they're too thin. They are not and never will be see through. You know, it would behoove us to often remember that faith, hope and love will remain when all else is burned up and gone. And the word of the Lord shall remain forever. The word of the Lord shall remain forever.    What He has said here is not going anywhere. The word of the Lord endureth forever.   May it be said of you, and of me, that on the mountain of our God, He has always and will always provide. He is your Jehovah Jireh. That is a part of the word of God which shall endure forever. It's true for you now, and will be true for you all of your days. Believe it, knowing for certain that it is true because God's word says so.   Thanks for listening today, and don't forget you can enter the giveaway via the link in the show notes and also thanks again to our sponsor for this episode. Message for 03/05/2023 "Faith Overcomes Brokenness" by Justin McTeer. *All verses are NLT unless otherwise noted* What are you most confident in? Genesis 12:1-3 - The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father's family, and go to the land that I will show you. 2 I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. 3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:6-10 - Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. 7 The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8 From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. 9 Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev. 10 Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe. Genesis 12:11-20 - As he was approaching the border of Egypt, Abram said to his wife, Sarai, “Look, you are a very beautiful woman. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife. Let's kill him; then we can have her!' 13 So please tell them you are my sister. Then they will spare my life and treat me well because of their interest in you.” 14 And sure enough, when Abram arrived in Egypt, everyone noticed Sarai's beauty. 15 When the palace officials saw her, they sang her praises to Pharaoh, their king, and Sarai was taken into his palace. 16 Then Pharaoh gave Abram many gifts because of her—sheep, goats, cattle, male and female donkeys, male and female servants, and camels. 17 But the Lord sent terrible plagues upon Pharaoh and his household because of Sarai, Abram's wife. 18 So Pharaoh summoned Abram and accused him sharply. “What have you done to me?” he demanded. “Why didn't you tell me she was your wife? 19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,' and allow me to take her as my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and get out of here!” 20 Pharaoh ordered some of his men to escort them, and he sent Abram out of the country, along with his wife and all his possessions. Genesis 16:1-6 - Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had not been able to bear children for him. But she had an Egyptian servant named Hagar. 2 So Sarai said to Abram, “The Lord has prevented me from having children. Go and sleep with my servant. Perhaps I can have children through her.” And Abram agreed with Sarai's proposal. 3 So Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar the Egyptian servant and gave her to Abram as a wife. (This happened ten years after Abram had settled in the land of Canaan.) 4 So Abram had sexual relations with Hagar, and she became pregnant. But when Hagar knew she was pregnant, she began to treat her mistress, Sarai, with contempt. 5 Then Sarai said to Abram, “This is all your fault! I put my servant into your arms, but now that she's pregnant she treats me with contempt. The Lord will show who's wrong—you or me!” 6 Abram replied, “Look, she is your servant, so deal with her as you see fit.” Then Sarai treated Hagar so harshly that she finally ran away. Hebrews 11:8-13 - It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. 9 And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith—for he was like a foreigner, living in tents. And so did Isaac and Jacob, who inherited the same promise. 10 Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God. 11 It was by faith that even Sarah was able to have a child, though she was barren and was too old. She believed that God would keep his promise. 12 And so a whole nation came from this one man who was as good as dead—a nation with so many people that, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore, there is no way to count them. 13 All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. Faith is powerful Matthew 17:20b - “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible. Faith is effective Matthew 8:5-10 - When Jesus returned to Capernaum, a Roman officer came and pleaded with him, 6 “Lord, my young servant lies in bed, paralyzed and in terrible pain.” 7 Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. 9 I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,' and they go, or ‘Come,' and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,' they do it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven't seen faith like this in all Israel! Mark 6:4-6 - Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.” 5 And because of their unbelief, he couldn't do any miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 And he was amazed at their unbelief. Matthew 9:20-22 - Just then a woman who had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding came up behind him. She touched the fringe of his robe, 21 for she thought, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.” 22 Jesus turned around, and when he saw her he said, “Daughter, be encouraged! Your faith has made you well.” And the woman was healed at that moment. Mark 2:1-5 - When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that he was back home. 2 Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God's word to them, 3 four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. 4 They couldn't bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. 5 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” Faith is necessary Hebrews 11:6 - And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. John 3:16-19 - “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. 18 “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God's one and only Son. 19 And the judgment is based on this fact: God's light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. Romans 10:9 - If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. John 5:24 - I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life Genesis 22:1-14 - Some time later, God tested Abraham's faith. “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.” 2 “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.” 3 The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about. 4 On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5 “Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.” 6 So Abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on Isaac's shoulders, while he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them walked on together, 7 Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?” 8 “God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together. 9 When they arrived at the place where God had told him to go, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. Then he tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. 10 And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. 11 At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!” 12 “Don't lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.” 13 Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. 14 Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” Hebrews 11:17-19 - It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God's promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, 18 even though God had told him, “Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.” 19 Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead. Mark 9:23b - “Anything is possible if a person believes.”

James 1:2-4 NLT   5. YOU MUST START EXPECTING   Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1 NIV   WHAT DO THE TESTS OF GOD DO? IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO PROVE OURSELVES TO GOD. IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GOD TO PROVE HIMSELF TO US.   By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death. Hebrews 11:17-19 NIV   And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. At that moment the angel of the lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!” “Don't lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. Genesis 22:10-14 NLT   IT IS ONE THING TO KNOW GOD IS YOUR PROVIDER IT IS ANOTHER THING TO EXPERIENCE THAT GOD IS YOUR PROVIDER.     WHAT DO I FIND MY IDENTITY IN? WHAT DO I FIND MY SECURITY IN?   So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God's Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God's children.  Romans 8:15-16 NLT   But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.  Acts 1:8 NLT   “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it! John 14:12-14 NLT   DO WE LOVE THE DREAM GOD GAVE US MORE THAN THE GOD WHO GAVE US THE DREAM?   Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever. Psalms 73:25-26 NLT   “Hope is the great power that can move you to success. Why? Because when a man expects to win, he does not hold anything back, but gives his project all that he's got. Most people fail not because they lack ability, intelligence, or opportunity, but they fail because they don't give it all they've got.” Dr. Norman Vincent Peale    Don't you remember that our ancestor Abraham was shown to be right with God by his actions when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see, his faith and his actions worked together. His actions made his faith complete. And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” He was even called the friend of God. James 2:21-23 NLT

In this episode, I share my sermon. The title of my sermon was "Jehovah Jireh Is Bigger Than Our Circumstances". Jehovah Jireh is one of God's many names. I share the story of Abraham. Abraham named the mountain, where he was told by the Lord to sacrifice his only son, Yahweh-Yireh or Jehovah Jireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). Enjoy the sermon. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tammy-phillips3/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tammy-phillips3/support

More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music

The names of God reveal aspects of His character. I identified two names of God to explore using this week's song "Jireh" by Elevation Worship and Maverick City Music as inspiration. Simon reads the Bible

Genesis 22 NLT read aloud by Simon MacFarlane. 1 Some time later, God tested Abraham's faith. To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” 15 Then the angel of the LORD called again to Abraham from heaven. 16 “This is what the LORD says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that 17 I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. 18 And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.” 19 Then they returned to the servants and traveled back to Beersheba, where Abraham continued to live. 20 Soon after this, Abraham heard that Milcah, his brother Nahor's wife, had borne Nahor eight sons. 21 The oldest was named Uz, the next oldest was Buz, followed by Kemuel (the ancestor of the Arameans), 22 Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel. 23 (Bethuel became the father of Rebekah.) In addition to these eight sons from Milcah, 24 Nahor had four other children from his concubine Reumah. Their names were Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.

====================================March 5Genesis 22: Now I know that you love Me!We are going to read the biggest and hardest test that Abraham had to pass. Let's read the first few verses but don't forget to read the entire chapter.Genesis 22:1-19 NLT: Some time later, God tested Abraham's faith. “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.”“Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. “Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.”So Abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on Isaac's shoulders, while he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them walked on together, Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?”“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.“We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?”“God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. “Here I am!”“Don't lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.”Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”This could be the ultimate test in Abraham's life; perhaps the one that led him to live the biggest moment of anguish and pain. Abraham had to face the biggest fear of his life, losing his son. Isaac was not only his loving son, he was also the heir that he had wanted with all his soul. Imagine the conflict of thoughts and feelings that went through his mind. How was it possible that God was asking for Isaac's life when God Himself had promised him and miraculously granted it? None of this made sense! That is where Abraham uses the gift of faith. The only way to understand what was happening was by holding on to God's promises! If God promised him a son, an heir, and God had specifically chosen Isaac, that was a sign that God would be able to raise Isaac, even from the ashes of the sacrifice. (Hebrews 11:17-19).So Abraham went through with the process of offering a sacrifice. On their way, his son asked where the sacrificial animal was. Abraham spoke in faith and said: "God will provide the sacrificial lamb!" That was really what the Lord was doing at that moment. While they were going up the mountain, at the same time, a ram was going up to the same place. When they reached the top, Abraham built the stone altar. Then, he put his son on the stone altar, and when he raised the knife God stopped him.And now we are going to see the reason for this test. Notice the words of the Lord: "Don't lay a hand on the boy! Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.” God wanted to see what was really in Abraham's heart. He wanted to see his level of commitment: Was it partial or full commitment? Was Abraham's love for God conditional or unconditional?Abraham's faith was tested. This was like a "graduation" in the school of God.Possibly you are going to go through different difficult tests. One of the reasons is that the Lord wants to see how much you trust Him and His promises and, possibly, He wants to elevate you to a higher position in the army of believers. Get ready to see the hand of God, because in the midst of the test the "God who provides" already has the solution for you to emerge victorious from your test. Let's scrutinize:Use some of the techniques of study we've used. You can visualize this scene, imagining how these events took place or personalize one of these verses like for example verse 17, and take this promise when you come out of some test. I am your brother and friend Eduardo Rodríguez.
