"I will always go back to the well, and I will write until I die," says Jason Brown, author of Character Witness.Jason Brown is here. He is a brilliant short story writer and the author of the memoir Character Witness (University of Nebraska Press). It's an incredible book and we recorded this conversation at the end of October as the fourth and final LIVE podcast of the year at Gratitude Brewing here in Eugene. Jason, as luck would have it, teaches at the University of Oregon in its writing department, forging the young minds who will publish in the most obscure lit journals, the future bitter podcasters of America, sorry, speaking from experience. I'm projecting, OK?But thanks to Jason and his clout with the University, we had our biggest gathering of the year, live and in person. There's something pretty rad about the in-person jam.Jason can be found at writerjasonbrown.com. He writes fiction and nonfiction and was a Stegner Fellow and Truman Capote Fellow at Stanford University where he taught as a Jones Lecturer. He has received fellowships from Yaddo and Macdowell colonies. He taught for the MFA program at the University of Arizona and directs the MFA program at the U of O here in Eugene. He's the author of the collection Driving the Heart and Other Stories, Why the Devil Chose New England For His work and his work as also appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Harper's, Best American Short Stories, The L.A. Real love is often not what we think it is and it takes some time to understand it fully. We build all kind of neuroses in our best efforts to experience love and don't reach the point where we experience boundless unconditional love in its true form. Equanimity, love, compassion and appreciative joy are the four states of divine abidings that spontaneously arise in us as a reflection of the degree to which we remove the hindrances that bring us to suffering. We can actively mature our capacity for love. This is the path of love.
"Do not let me eat the sweet morsels that the enemy sets before me to trap me in anger and gossip..." Pastor CheriPastor Cheri is coming with an amazing word this week, taken from Psalm 141. This season has been difficult for her, and for so many of us. Difficult seasons often signal immense growth. This week we will be diving into this subject of how the Lord matures us through those seasons, using others to teach and reprove us, and how we should not be drawn into the traps the enemy lays for us to draw us into division.Show Notes: Psalm 141Exodus 29:391 Kings 18:36Support the showEmail: sheispodcast@refugecity.churchInstagram: she_is_podcastFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/sheispodcastrccYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@sheispodcast4645

Though Paul primarily addresses aspiring church leaders in 1 Timothy 3:4–5, nevertheless every Christian should aim for a biblically blameless household—one that is well-ordered to the glory of God. Christ-motivated cosmos rather than chaos is to characterise our homes.

What does true freedom look like?At age 15, Warner Batty was sentenced to life without parole for taking a life. Fifty years later, he walked out of a Pennsylvania prison—free not just in body, but in spirit. In this raw and redemptive conversation, Steve sits down with Warner to talk about his journey from hopelessness and self-hatred to forgiveness and freedom in Christ. Hear how one man—“the hound from heaven”—persisted in sharing Jesus behind bars until the Holy Spirit broke through.Warner shares the pivotal moment of his salvation, his decades-long walk with Christ while incarcerated, and his eventual release under the Miller v. This week, Jake and Bob discuss identity: why it matters, how it is formed, and its role in the healing process. We live in a fallen world with an enemy who spreads lies that can send us down paths far from the truth of who we are. Through questions like "Who am I?", "Whose am I?", and "Do I belong?" Jake and Bob explore how to reclaim our God-given identity and rest in the freedom of living in that truth. Key Points: Finding your identity in Christ and living out of that truth is part of the healing process We begin the search for our identity in childhood and continue to deepen it (whether in truth or lies) throughout life Because we live in a fallen world, our identity can easily be influenced by the lies we believe about ourselves, others, and the world around us Healing is more than the relief from pain. Maturing in our God-given identity is actually a form of healing We become what we believe we are. We come to know ourselves and learn to love ourselves as we learn who we are in God There is value and healing to be found in the journey of finding our identity in God Resources: Jake's Identity Course (Use the code RESTORE10 at checkout for 10% your enrollment) The Chastity of Jesus and the "Refusal to Grasp" Connect with Restore the Glory: Instagram: @restoretheglorypodcast Twitter: @RestoreGloryPod Facebook: Restore the Glory Podcast Chapters: 00:00 Introduction 08:05 "What Am I?" and " Who Am I?" 21:58 The Struggle Against My God-given Identity 29:34 Do I Belong? 39:57 The Path to Finding Your Identity 48:12 Maturing Within Your Identity 55:23 The Purity of Love Never miss out on an episode by hitting the subscribe button right now! As we near the end of our This Is Living series, Paul invites us into a deeper, grown-up faith. A faith that doesn't drift, coast, or cling to old patterns, but presses forward with purpose. In Philippians 3:12–4:1, he admits he's not yet perfect, yet he makes every effort to take hold of the Christ who already holds him. We're called to do the same:Forget what's behind, Reach for what's ahead,And press on toward the prize of knowing Jesus. This is the life of a mature believer. Not sinless, but surrendered. Not perfect, but pressing on. Paul reminds us that we are citizens of heaven, running a race together, shaping one another, guarding one another, and refusing the slow fade of spiritual isolation. So stand firm. Cling to Christ. Lean on the Spirit. Walk with your community. This is living.

Ephesians 4:11–16. Maturity in Christ is formed through devotion, tested in hidden seasons, and strengthened in community. God grows us so we no longer live confused or immature, but steady, clear, and whole. In this weeks Leadership Lessons Pastor Kevin Myers teaches how maturity refines the heart, restores our view of God and trains us to fight the right battles.

In this message, Pastor Nate challenges those who say we are discipleship of Jesus to grow in our spiritual maturity.
The call to be “not quarrelsome” is a call to reflect the peace of Christ in every sphere of life. True peace is not born of temperament but of transformation—a heart ruled by the Prince of Peace rather than by pride or passion. The Spirit of Christ enables believers to listen with grace, speak with restraint, and engage conflict redemptively. In a world driven by argument and anger, the non-quarrelsome life stands as a living testimony that the gospel not only reconciles us to God but also makes us agents of reconciliation in his church and beyond.
In the midst of Cross Encounter, Nancy shares a powerful call to maturity for sons of God. From Texas to Ireland, producers are being sent to serve as the Father expands His work across nations. But this message goes deeper—it's an invitation to live as a son who refuses to stand in self-preservation or remain hidden behind a caricature. Nancy reminds us: if we are truly born of incorruptible seed, we are not meant to stay the same. This is a call to go into the ground, to let go of false self-images and cultural Christianity, and to emerge in the form needed for where the Father is taking us. Maturing into martyrdom isn't about suffering for suffering's sake—it's about becoming a living witness, one who will not shrink back, settle, or self-protect. You were born of Him, for Him, to live with Him. And this episode will challenge you to move forward in that identity—fully, wholly, and without excuse. Here we go. Thanks for Listening! Christians often struggle to trust God when it comes to meeting daily needs. As we continue working through the character qualities of a maturing Christian, we come to the matter of not loving money—of learning the discipline of true contentment and trust in the God who provides our needs.
Interest rates have dropped significantly, so many New Zealanders are reconsidering their savings strategies. They offer practical guidance on aligning your savings and investment decisions with both short and long-term goals, helping you chart your next steps with confidence.
In this episode, we talk about what it means to weather the storms of life well. Everyone experiences difficult moments throughout their lives and these storms come in all shapes and sizes. In each one, we have the opportunity to respond from a place of truth and peace instead of fear. We share practical ways we've learned to weather the storms in our own lives, from simplifying life to immersing ourselves in Scripture. We also explore how pain, though difficult, can lead us into deeper healing and communion with God. No matter what you're facing, you are not alone—He is near, and so are we. Learning about a mature Christian's character, and that of an elder, is being able to think God's thoughts about God's words. Once we understand what these words and characteristics mean to the Lord, then we are in a better place to live them out.
Send us a textWe are pleased to welcome author and researcher Christopher Baidoo-Essien discussing his book Examining the Great Commission. Writing about scripture takes time, thought, perspective, and patience. One of the unique things about the Bible is the text can be understood deeper the longer you live with it. Maturing in faith has its roots based in thinking. The Bible instructs to meditate on it day and night. The more we can think, the more connects that can be drawn to bring the scriptures to light. This is how we can make disciples of all the nations, having a relationship with Jesus. =====Searching for answers to life's questions? Need help finding a church? Drop us a line. Abraham's journey from Egypt back to the promised land reveals three key stages of spiritual growth: baby Christians who crave God's Word and need assurance, young adults ready to serve but prone to pride and burnout, and mature believers who reflect God's character. Spiritual maturity is marked by three characteristics: returning to God after failure rather than running away, choosing peace over pride in relationships, and receiving fresh clarity and direction from God. Lot's story serves as a warning - when we love the world too much, it leads to spiritual decline and destruction.CLICK ME: Sermon OutlineINSTAGRAMTIKTOKYOUTUBEWEBSITE
When Scripture says that an elder must not be a drunkard, it speaks to more than avoiding drunkenness. It calls us to have a mature and godly relationship with the good gifts God gives. This qualification reminds us that spiritual maturity involves self-control, gratitude, and wisdom in how we use God's blessings. True Christian maturity is not found in abstaining from good things, nor in overindulging, but in enjoying God's gifts rightly—with thankfulness, restraint, and dependence on him.

How do you prepare to get ready for an influx of new believers as a result of prayer? This week, guest speaker Tim Zulker—executive director of New England Urban Church Planting and longtime mentor to leaders across Rhode Island—shared a message from Ephesians 4:1–16 about preparing for revival through unity and maturity in Christ. He reminded us that the gospel follows a specific pattern—what Christ has done first, and then how we respond. Following the pattern can we live lives worthy of our calling. A unified and growing church, marked by humility, gentleness, and love, is the best preparation for new believers God will bring. Tim urged us to reject cultural divisiveness, pursue reconciliation, and use our gifts to build up the body—because the local church is the most important thing happening on earth.
In Maturing an Infant Spirit, Pastor Ken Chapman shows how every believer—no matter how long they've walked with God—must intentionally grow their inner life through the Word, fellowship, and spiritual accountability. This message invites you to move from spiritual infancy to maturity, embracing a life that reflects the likeness and strength of Christ.

Tom Welling (Smallville, Lucifer) joins us this week for a reflective and honest conversation about the weight of carrying a legacy role, the pressure that came with it, and how his relationship with Smallville has evolved over the years. Tom talks about the unexpecte fallout from fame at a young age, the creative safety he's found on set, and the realization that growth often comes from letting go. We also talk about the illusion of needing to respond, passing the torch to new generations, and why life happens from you, not to you. Thank you to our sponsors:
