Check the website here: http://enlites.com/   Dr. Joseph Errington is Professor of Anthropology at Yale University. He studies language change as a source of insight into the ways languages constitute intimate parts of our everyday lives, and at the same time are foundational for large-scale institutions, social groups, and social dynamics. He has worked mostly in Indonesia, studying Javanese (90 million speakers), Indonesian (250 million speakers) and a range of Malay dialects. He has also worked on questions of language ideology and practice: how conceptions of language can shape and reflect social interests, naturalize images of social groups, and shape everyday ways of talking.   In this episode, we talk about some topics in linguistics. We discuss language ideologies. We talk about the history of linguistics, and its ties to colonialism, including the invention of hierarchies of languages; stripping languages of their sociocultural context, and issues with the Universal Grammar approach; imposing written forms on languages; reducing languages to the versions used by social elites; and the invention of national languages. We also discuss misconceptions about non-standard versions of languages; threats to marginalized languages and their communities; and how these issues manifest in the Javanese and the Indonesian language. -- A HUGE THANK YOU TO MY PATRONS/SUPPORTERS: PER HELGE LARSEN, JERRY MULLER, HANS FREDRIK SUNDE, BERNARDO SEIXAS, OLAF ALEX, ADAM KESSEL, MATTHEW WHITINGBIRD, ARNAUD WOLFF, TIM HOLLOSY, HENRIK AHLENIUS, JOHN CONNORS, FILIP FORS CONNOLLY, DAN DEMETRIOU, ROBERT WINDHAGER, RUI INACIO, ZOOP, MARCO NEVES, COLIN HOLBROOK, SIMON COLUMBUS, PHIL KAVANAGH, MIKKEL STORMYR, SAMUEL ANDREEFF, FRANCIS FORDE, TIAGO NUNES, FERGAL CUSSEN, HAL HERZOG, NUNO MACHADO, JONATHAN LEIBRANT, JOÃO LINHARES, STANTON T, SAMUEL CORREA, ERIK HAINES, MARK SMITH, JOÃO EIRA, TOM HUMMEL, SARDUS FRANCE, DAVID SLOAN WILSON, YACILA DEZA-ARAUJO, ROMAIN ROCH, DIEGO LONDOÑO CORREA, YANICK PUNTER, ADANER USMANI, CHARLOTTE BLEASE, NICOLE BARBARO, ADAM HUNT, PAWEL OSTASZEWSKI, NELLEKE BAK, GUY MADISON, GARY G HELLMANN, SAIMA AFZAL, ADRIAN JAEGGI, PAULO TOLENTINO, JOÃO BARBOSA, JULIAN PRICE, EDWARD HALL, HEDIN BRØNNER, DOUGLAS FRY, FRANCA BORTOLOTTI, GABRIEL PONS CORTÈS, URSULA LITZCKE, SCOTT, ZACHARY FISH, TIM DUFFY, SUNNY SMITH, JON WISMAN, DANIEL FRIEDMAN, WILLIAM BUCKNER, PAUL-GEORGE ARNAUD, LUKE GLOWACKI, GEORGIOS THEOPHANOUS, CHRIS WILLIAMSON, PETER WOLOSZYN, DAVID WILLIAMS, DIOGO COSTA, ANTON ERIKSSON, CHARLES MOREY, ALEX CHAU, AMAURI MARTÍNEZ, CORALIE CHEVALLIER, BANGALORE ATHEISTS, LARRY D. Ministry involves navigating a range of relationships and responsibilities, many of these are pastorally complex and the intensity of these relationships can often leave pastors drained of energy and confused about what help they can offer – How do you get clear on what your responsibility is, and isn't? What help is actually helpful? This workshop offers a family systems view on pastoral care and considers how anxiety in relationships can often overwhelm the intentionality we would like to have in pastoral care. In this workshop we will: Think about the idea of congregations as emotional relational systems Take a step back and observe how patterns of care on offer might be unsustainable or even unhelpful Explore ideas of overfunctioning and underfunctioning and the application of these in ministry where ministers / pastoral carers are primed to overfunction for others Consider how to shift the focus of responsibility and care for someone from an anxious quick fix to having long term emotional and spiritual growth in mind. Executive Director – The Family Systems Institute Lauren is the Executive Director of The Family Systems Institute, an organisation that offers family systems training for clinicians, supervisors, coaches and ministry leaders. She is a mental health social worker, couple and family therapist and supervisor, with experience in tertiary level mental health services and private practice in Australia and Scotland, currently counselling with Family Systems Practice. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.06.27.546752v1?rss=1 Authors: Herrera, B., Sajad, A., Errington, S. P., Schall, J. D., Diaz, J. R. Abstract: A multi-scale approach elucidated the origin of the error-related-negativity (ERN), with its associated theta-rhythm, and the post-error-positivity (Pe) in macaque supplementary eye field (SEF). Using biophysical modeling, synaptic inputs to layer-3 (L3) and layer-5 (L5) pyramidal cells (PCs) were optimized to account for error-related modulation and inter-spike intervals. The intrinsic dynamics of dendrites in L5 but not L3 PCs generate theta rhythmicity with random phase. Saccades synchronized the phase of this theta-rhythm, which was magnified on errors. Contributions from L5 PCs to the laminar current source density (CSD) observed in SEF were negligible. The CSD derived from L3 PCs could not explain the observed association between their error-related spiking modulation and scalp-EEG. Laminar CSD comprises multipolar components, with dipoles explaining ERN features, and quadrupoles reproducing those for Pe. The presence of monopoles indicates diffuse activation. These results provide the most advanced explanation of the cellular mechanisms generating the ERN. Copy rights belong to original authors. Thanks for listening to another episode of The Women's Fittest Podcast! This is episode #145 and we are kicking off 2023 with the delightful IFBB Fitness Pro Kate Errington. @kate.errington  This was an incredibly fun chat, and in this episode Kate shares her journey into bodybuilding, talks about her unique job as a burlesque dancer in the UK, updates us on giganterboob (both her implants ruptured please check her instagram for the full story in pictures), and she verbally contemplates how the ruptures caused her to miss the 2022 Olympia, and then deliberates future competing. Such a relevant convo. Kate is charming, intelligent, and real and her character is unique. This interview was my pleasure and the perfect start to 2023. Oh and if you're wondering what a lifetime natural athlete and Olympian looks like, open your eyes and check out Kate. Not many can say this. She's a tremendous example of when hard work meets genetics. Hope you love this one! From the dawn of time, systems of justice have demanded recompense for wrongs. The most fundamental systems have been kind for kind—such as, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, or a life for a life. In fact, this sort of rudimentary justice system is biblical and it lies at the heart of so much of the law in Scripture. But in God's kingdom, Jesus tells us that there is no room for vengeance. Instead, life in the kingdom demands forbearance and forgiveness. What does this mean for us practically? Can there be any justice? In this episode of the podcast, we bring you some of the audio from our most recent live event on vengeance, where we considered how Jesus transforms our expectations and pursuits of justice, and leads us away from vengeance. This week we are in beautiful Lanarkshire, in the heart of Scotland, an area with a long tradition of food production. Rosalind went along to visit some of the businesses who now make up Lanarkshire Larder, a regional food group that includes food and drinks producers, restaurants, cafes, pubs, hotels and farm shops, all of whom share a passion about the provenance and quality of products they sell.First up, everyone's favourite - cheese. Rosalind met Selina Cairns who runs Errington cheese and who founded Lanarkshire Larder.Next up was a visit to Thankerton farm to speak to owner Michael Shannon who rears and produces all the meat for his butchers and supply shop - Damn Delicious.Moving on to Strathaven, Rosalind sat down with Theo Giameos, owner of Roasted. His business ethos is very much focussed on sustainability, locally sourced products, socially consciousness and environmentally friendly practices. Finally you'll hear Rosalind chatting to Andrew and Linda Smellie of Greenhall Country Cafe and Farm Shop. They have been growing and expanding a business; the original idea for which was born at a dinner party where they served crocodile, ostrich and wagu beef.
