I've never shied away from the fact that I LOVE trashy reality TV. Among my favourites are Vanderpump Rules, Selling Sunset and of Course BELOW DECK! Well, this week I got to sit down, in person with one of my favourite "characters" on Below Deck and talk all things Super Yachts and how this world really works and the crazy people and stories that come from it. Natalya Scudder is a Perth local when she isn't travelling the world and working on 100m+ MEGA yachts and so it was great to catch her in a rare moment of down time and talk about the industry she has been part of for almost a decade. It was a real treat to have this time with Natalya and it was great to have someone open the doors on what it's like to live in a billionaires world and what working on a super yacht is really like. I hope you enjoy the podcast and as always, please hit that SUBSCRIBE BUTTON to make sure you never miss any future episode and please consider leaving a 5 STAR RATING and POSITIVE REVIEW as it would mean the world to me. Jay Bahadur is an investigator for an international agency. He’s a Canadian, born in Toronto, Ontario, who went on to be a journalist and author, becoming well-known for his reporting on Somalian pirates. He got an inside look at Somali piracy, after spending months in the country, living with pirates, and venturing into areas that most journalists wouldn’t dare visit. Jay documented his experience in a book titled The Pirates Of Somalia: Inside Their Hidden World, which was released in 2011. 6 years later, in 2017, a movie by the same name was released, which closely follow’s Jay’s story. It’s also known by an alternate title,‘Dabka’ and was directed by Bryan Buckley. Jay is portrayed on screen by Evan Peters, and the film also stars Barkhad Abdi, Melanie Griffith, and Al Pacino. Listen as Jay tells us what it was like to venture into places that most other journalists would never dare, how he got the pirates to open up, whether or not the movie was true to his book, and more.
