Editor's Note: We experienced some technical audio issues during the recording of this episode. While every effort was made to improve the sound quality, listeners may notice occasional audio fluctuations throughout the conversation. Thank you for your understanding. Rob and Brittany welcome Congressman Chris Deluzio of Pennsylvania's 17th District to the podcast. Deluzio is a Navy veteran, VFW member, and member of the House Armed Services Committee who continues to advocate for service members, veterans, and military families on Capitol Hill. Before the interview, VFW National Legislative Service Director Kristina Keenan and Associate Director Joy Craig join the show for an in-depth legislative update covering several key issues impacting veterans and military families. The discussion includes ongoing efforts to secure justice for victims of Camp Lejeune water contamination, implementation of the VA Home Loan Program Reform Act, progress on the Major Richard Star Act, and developments in the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Deluzio reflects on his path from the U.S. Naval Academy to military service and eventually Congress, discussing how veterans bring a mission-first mindset to public service. He shares his experiences serving as a Surface Warfare Officer, deploying to Iraq alongside Army units, and the importance of having veterans represented in government. The conversation explores military quality-of-life issues, including pay, housing, spouse employment, child care, and the challenges of transitioning from military service to civilian life. Deluzio also discusses the importance of military credentialing programs, improving transition assistance, protecting veterans' benefits, and advancing legislation such as the Major Richard Star Act. The episode concludes with a preview of the upcoming 127th VFW National Convention in Reno, Nevada, and the launch of Ask the VFW, a new platform allowing listeners to submit questions directly to VFW subject matter experts. Have a question for the VFW? Visit https://vfw.org/AskTheVFW or go to the Ask the VFW page to submit your question for a future episode. Hour 4 full 00:00 All right, welcome back to the program. Let's go to the phones and talk to Richard in Dallas. Richard, what's going on, Hey, man, you talking about January 6th? I'll tell you how slick and sneaky our government is, I got arrested for simply thinking about going to that rally. Man, they're tough. They are tough. I want to talk to you about, listen, the Democrat Party, heard they was planning a party to celebrate the uh failure of the rezoning down there in Jim Clyburn's district. 00:30 Oh yeah. And it's going to be, I heard it's going to be hosted by one of Jim Clyburn's famous fish fries. Yeah. They're going to do the big, um, yeah, the barbecue, right? Ah, they said fish fries. Is it a fish fry? Hell yeah. heard the fish fries. might go to that. Well, I was going to make a comment about that. Down there in his district where he's at, those people vote for him. Apparently he's held this fish fry before and famous for it. Right. 00:59 And my point is, these folks, if you feed them some good old deep fried catfish, fried pig lard, listen, with some slaw and hush puppies, french fries, of times a year, couple of times a year, and serve them some good old red ripe watermelon for dessert. I'll be there. Ain't nothing wrong with that. um 01:25 for the rest of his life. People vote for him You feed me that stuff, I might vote for you for the rest of my life. I appreciate it, buddy. Thank you. Oh man, this is the time we went to a good fish fry. Last one I went to was at a VFW. Man, it was so good. Well, I've got some breaking news. I got to a breaking news sounder for the program. Duttle up, duttle up, duttle up, duttle up, duttle up. It looks like that President Trump has made, no, it doesn't look like. 01:52 I'll restate that President Trump has made an endorsement in the governor's race here in South Carolina. Yes. Yes. JJ. Yes. Yes. Go ahead. Whoa. Oh, whoa. There has been an endorsement. This was made breaking on Charlie show saying, whoa, at five 45 this afternoon, President Trump posted on truth social, highly respected and very prop a very popular. 02:22 Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina, Pam Evitt, is an American first patriot who has been with me from the very beginning. She never wavered, never let me down. It was the only South Carolina gubernatorial candidate to endorse me as soon as I launched my 2024 presidential campaign. She crisscrossed South Carolina and other states for me. And I said at that time that this is truly something which I cannot forget. Now Pam is running to be the next governor of South Carolina. 02:50 A place I love and one big in 2016, 2010 and 2024, getting the highest vote by far in the state's history. A successful entrepreneur, businesswoman and civic leader prior to becoming a distinguished Lieutenant Governor and working with my friend and great Governor, Henry McMaster. Pam has proven that she has the courage and wisdom to deliver strong results for the people of her wonderful state and our nation. As your next governor, Pam will fight hard to grow the economy. 03:18 cut taxes and regulations, promote Made in the USA, champion our amazing farmers and ranchers, keep our borders secure, stop migrant crime, strengthen our military, veterans, uh safeguard our elections, and protect our always-underseas Second Amendment. Pam Evitt is a good friend, fighter, and winner, and will be a terrific governor of South Carolina. Pam has my complete and total endorsement. She will never let you down. 03:46 A big added plus for Pam is that I hear Henry McMaster Jr., the brilliant and very competent son of Henry and Peggy, will be running with her as the next Lieutenant Governor. I love South Carolina President Donald J. Trump. Vomit, vomit, vomit. 04:07 I love President Trump, love President Trump, but I think it was way, no, I'm just, here's the thing, no. 04:17 I mean, yeah, and we talked about this, didn't we? were talking about this of weeks ago. What if honoring America's heroes became your life mission? On this episode of The MisFitNation Show, host Rich LaMonica welcomes US Air Force Veteran Dr. Kevin Wallace and Lauren Wallace, the husband-and-wife team behind one of the most meaningful missions in America today—Van of Valor. Van of Valor is a cross-country project dedicated to recording, preserving, and sharing the stories of Purple Heart recipients and Gold Star families. Their belief is simple: “The highest form of honor is to remember.” Kevin Wallace is a retired combat photojournalist who served as a photographer for Air Force One and is himself a Purple Heart recipient and Bronze Star with Valor recipient. Lauren Wallace is a cultural anthropologist and Harvard history graduate student who helps ensure these stories are preserved with historical depth and meaning. Together, the newlyweds live as unpaid volunteers in a converted FedEx van—traveling over 30,000 miles across America with their dachshund Sunny—meeting veterans in homes, VFW halls, farms, and small towns to document stories that might otherwise be lost forever. Their mission goes beyond interviews. They conduct buddy checks, reconnect forgotten histories, and remind families that sacrifice will never be ignored. One unforgettable detour led them to the forgotten gravesite of a decorated Vietnam-era pilot, where they rendered a final salute. That moment captures the spirit of this mission: No warrior left behind. No hero forgotten. This episode is about service after service, preserving legacy, leadership, sacrifice, and why remembering matters now more than ever.

In this episode, we're coming to you on-location from Annapolis, Maryland, during the VFW National Veterans Service (NVS) Proficiency Training Conference alongside Ryan Gallucci, Mike Figlioli, Chris Macinkowicz and special guest VFW Senior Vice Commander-in-Chief Cory Geisler. Together, they pull back the curtain on how the VFW trains and equips its accredited service officers to better serve veterans navigating the VA claims process. The team explores the intensive training that ensures VFW representatives stay current on evolving laws, court cases, and VA policies, highlighting how this expertise directly impacts veterans' access to earned benefits. School safety gets talked about like it's only locks, radios, and worst-case scenarios, but the truth is more human and more demanding. Hosts Lisa Greenberg and Officer Mercedes Simonds sit down with Chief Anthony Sizemore to unpack what makes a School Resource Officer effective when the job requires two extremes at once: the ability to respond instantly to danger and the patience to earn trust with kids who may be meeting law enforcement for the first time.We share a story that captures the spirit of the work: Officer Syd Wilcox being surprised with a VFW 'Officer of the Year' honor and why his retirement feels so big to his school community. From there, we dig into what it takes to run an award-winning SRO program in Cape Coral: elite standards, ongoing training, campus drills, crisis intervention skills for youth, and tight partnerships with the Lee County School District and charter schools. We also explain why the assignment is specialized, sought-after, and built on continuity, so relationships can grow over years instead of resetting every year. The conversation goes deeper into the parts people rarely see: hundreds of counseling sessions, sitting in on tough meetings with students and parents, doing threat assessments, and making careful decisions that protect a campus without unnecessarily criminalizing a kid. We also highlight a standout example of trauma-informed support: SRO James Cannon helping launch parenting classes alongside school leaders and youth mental health professionals to meet real community needs.

Host Rob Couture records this special overseas episode of #StillServing: The VFW Podcast from Southeast Asia, joined by VFW Senior Vice Commander-in-Chief Cory Geisler. Together, they take listeners inside the VFW's Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) fact-finding mission — a powerful, on-the-ground look at the ongoing effort to bring America's missing service members home. Geisler reflects on his first experience in the region, sharing insights from visits across Hawaii, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. From the cutting-edge forensic work at the Daniel K. Inouye Center for Excellence to remote recovery sites in Vietnam, the episode highlights the complexity, danger and urgency of DPAA's mission. The conversation explores the science behind identification, the challenges of degraded remains and difficult terrain, and the critical role of international partnerships in advancing recovery efforts. The discussion also underscores the impact of funding shortfalls, government shutdowns and logistical barriers that threaten future missions — raising important questions about America's commitment to its promise to never leave a fallen comrade behind. Through meetings with foreign governments, veteran organizations and recovery teams, Couture and Geisler emphasize the power of veteran-to-veteran diplomacy in overcoming political barriers and strengthening cooperation. From emotional visits to historic sites like the Hanoi Hilton, to honoring those lost in a 2001 recovery mission helicopter crash, this episode captures both the human cost of war and the enduring dedication to accountability. With heartfelt reflections on service, sacrifice and remembrance, Episode 62 reinforces the VFW's unwavering mission to bring every service member home. Join us for a discussion on legislative priorities, legal battles, and ongoing efforts to protect veterans' benefits. In this episode, Rob and Brittany are joined by Ryan Gallucci, VFW General Counsel John Muckelbauer, and National Legislative Committee Chairman Jason Johns as the conversation dives deep into the impact of the VFW Washington Conference and the power of grassroots advocacy. The group reflects on the energy and outcomes of the conference, including direct engagement with lawmakers and efforts to push forward key legislation like the Major Richard Star Act. They also break down ongoing legal fights, including the VFW's lawsuit against the Department of Veterans Affairs over GI Bill benefits following the Rudisill Supreme Court decision, highlighting concerns that veterans who serve longer may be unfairly denied benefits they earned. The episode also tackles the growing threat of "claim sharks" — predatory companies exploiting veterans navigating the VA claims process. With insight from legal experts, the panel explains the risks, potential fraud implications, and why accredited representatives remain the safest and most effective path for veterans seeking benefits. Additional topics include delays in Camp Lejeune Justice Act claims, concerns about VA policy changes and fraud detection tools, and the importance of maintaining trust in the system while protecting veterans from exploitation. The episode closes with reflections on overseas missions to account for missing service members and a reminder of the enduring commitment to those who serve. Brian Joyce and Nick Trask of Major League join Caught on the Mike to talk about the band's long-awaited return and the journey that led them back to the stage together. Formed in 2009 in New Jersey, Major League built a passionate following through relentless DIY touring and emotionally driven pop-punk and emo anthems. Their early releases — including The Truth Is…, Variables, and the 2012 full-length Hard Feelings — became staples of the early 2010s scene and connected deeply with fans who grew up in the era of VFW shows, Tumblr culture, and cross-country van tours. In this episode, Brian and Nick reflect on the band's rise, the challenges and growth that came with lineup changes, and the emotions surrounding their 2016 farewell. They also dive into the conversations that led to their reunion, celebrating 15 years of The Truth Is…, and what it means to reconnect with fans after nearly a decade away. The conversation bridges the past and present — from the raw early days of the band to this new chapter as Major League hits the road again and revisits the music that defined a generation of pop-punk and emo fans.

What kind of a reaction should you expect when you trigger a war in AIT? Is it possible for a guy to just take a poop in peace? Sadly, 22 vets per day commit suicide, approximately 67,500 vets are homeless and thousands struggle with everyday life after service. What we hope to accomplish is providing a fun place to gather that will have a similar feel to the conversations that happen at the VFW or American Legion between vets. Since the latest generations of vets are not really going to these places anymore, we are making it happen online. We believe that the sense of community will help some who struggle, while providing stories about the good times that we can all laugh at!An additional part of this show is capturing the oral history of the military over the past few decades, so if you happen to know a veteran who served during WW2, Korean War or Vietnam eras, we would love to hear from them. Obviously, we want to hear stories from all eras, but we have special respect for the older generations. The Ghost Furnace - Episode 145 "Groundhog Day" "...Now on this February 2nd, Punxsutawney Phil, the seer of seers, the prognosticator of all prognosticators, was awakened from his wintry nap at dawn on Gobbler's Knob..." Every year in a small Pennsylvania town, thousands of people stand for hours in the predawn cold to catch a glimpse of a 100+ year old groundhog. They are not only kept warm by the ceremonial dancing, the locally brewed beer, the VFW pancakes and the company of a secret order of marmot wranglers. But chiefly by the hope, that this small brown woodchuck will gaze into the either and divine an early spring. If you have a story you'd like to share, you can find us on Instagram, YouTube and TheGhostFurnacePodcast@gmail.com
Host Rob Couture welcomes Ryan Gallucci, Brittany Dymond Murray, Nancy Springer, and Gabby Kubinyi for a wide-ranging advocacy roundtable covering the latest veterans policy updates from Capitol Hill and beyond. The conversation begins with a major update on the Major Richard Star Act, including the VFW's new three-part Action Alert strategy aimed at pushing Congress toward a long-overdue public hearing. The panel explains why hearings matter, what's driving resistance, and how advocates can keep the momentum going. Next, the team breaks down major developments in the fight against "claim sharks," including recent state-level enforcement actions and legislation designed to crack down on predatory companies charging veterans unlawful fees for claims assistance. The episode also highlights the VFW–Student Veterans of America (SVA) Legislative Fellowship and the fellows' new action alert supporting H.R. 1965, which would increase the book stipend and tie it to inflation. Nancy Springer recaps her testimony before the House VA Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs, emphasizing survivor-focused legislation and the power of veterans' stories in shaping policy. Finally, Ryan shares insights from overseas engagements with VFW National Commander Carol Whitmore, including visits to service members and partners in Germany, Poland, and Kosovo—reinforcing why the VFW remains committed to supporting those still serving abroad. A great laugh and a warm spirit resonates throughout this passionate self-taught chef. Listen as this Urbana native talks growing up in the diversity of Urbana, the opposing demographics of the Broadlands, team sports, alternative schools, working in dozens of kitchens, the importance of culture and food, the misery of manual labor, the incomparable feeling when cooking for others, couch surfing, working 20-hours per day and finding a home at the VFW 630. There are so many lows in this story, Benny took a lot of hits. However, he kept finding himself returning to the kitchen to find direction and happiness. What if I told you that if you think that outdoor shows are all about spending money that you've got it all wrong? Sure, there are opportunities to shell out wads of cash. But you can also support small businesses. In fact, some of them are so small that they might not even technically be a business! Beyond that, there is a lot to see in person that you may otherwise only experience through the cold, distant medium of YouTube. And whether you're in a giant convention center or the local VFW hall, there are probably people there that are worth taking a few minutes to meet. Why? They're into the same things you are.
