“I do believe without theater, we would have nothing else that has followed.”—  Suehyla El-Attar YoungSuehyla El-Attar Young is an award winning actor, playwright, and voiceover artist based in Atlanta. She's also a teaching artist, a director, and “a horrible daughter.” She lives happily with her husband and two cats in Decatur.Even with a nearly endless list of theater and film credits, Suehyla still feels blessed every time she lands a role or gig. Yet, she's spreading the love around, participating in an arts education program that teaches screenwriting to public school students - some of whom have never even encountered the concept of theater. “If it was mandatory, I think that you would have automatic empathy taught to students. It's the only subject in school that works in full practicum of everything else,” Suehya says. “You have to know how to do math physics and geometry in order to build a set. Your physical education, of being aware of your body and how it moves, that's all being on stage. Reading comprehension and language, it's all right there. Working as a group for collaborative efforts, it's automatic, it's part of it naturally.”Check out this eye-opening discussion on life as an Egyptian-American actress living in 2021 Atlanta. In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode of the podcast,‌ ‌you'll discover:‌ ‌How theater education promotes and enhances learning in other contexts. What it's like to manage stage fright as an element of performance. The prospect of losing further work for declining uncomfortable roles.=Highlights:‌ ‌00:15 Intro03:45 Meet Suehyla05:55 Playwriting in Public School10:00 Punctuating Dialogue 16:45 Theater vs. Tv & Film20:15 The Pandemic and Stage Fright23:00 Egyptian-American Artists26:55 Racial Typecasting 32:10 Cultivating Audiences (The Brechtian Apocalypse)40:30 Competition in the Arts 43:00 Competency and the Sublime46:15 The Changing Shape of Success51:00 Upcoming Projects54:15 Wrapping UpConnecting with SuehylaSuehyla's upcoming performance:https://tickets.horizontheatre.com/southboundTwitter: @SuehylaIG: @SuehylaeYoungOur Links:‌ ‌Join Our Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/artistinclusive Website: https://www.artistinclusive.com Connect  https://www.hollandcreative.io  daniel@hollandcreative.io    IG: https://instagram.com/conversioncopydesign  https://www.dashofcopy.com  anna@dashofcopy.com  IG: https://instagram.com/dashofcopy

She will be leading two workshops at the 2012 WV Writers Summer Conference which are not only helpful for playwrights, but storytellers, poets, writers and any form of creative endeavor. Suehyla bases her workshops on work she did with movement storyteller Celeste Miller. She explains Celeste's approach.
