Nun, nicht ganz vergessen, denn immerhin haben einst die Coen-Brüder in ihrem Werk "Barton Fink" eine kleine Liebeserklärung an den Film versteckt. Es ist aber auch ein Traum, mit welcher Leichtfüßigkeit der für seine Improvisationskünste berüchtigte (und bei Schauspieler:innen gefürchtete) Regisseur Leo McCarey hier seine arme Hauptfigur dem größtmöglichen Culture Clash aussetzt. Ausgerechnet einem vulgären amerikanischen Millionär soll der bisher in Paris residierende feine englische Butler Ruggles von nun an gehorchen – und wird dazu auch noch in das amerikanische Provinzkaff Red Gap versetzt. Sehr zur Freude des Publikums, denn mit welcher unglaublichen Leichtigkeit der Film dieses Fish-out-of-Water-Szenario für das größtmögliche Chaos nutzt, ist schlicht großartig. Und zeigt eindrucksvoll, dass es neben Chaplin, Keaton oder den Marx Brothers noch so viele andere Komödien-Perlen aus der Frühzeit des Kinos zu entdecken gibt.
