Although we got the female-driven third instalment directed by Paul Feig, this Ghostbusters film disregards it in favour of a direct sequel. Directed by Jason Reitman, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the supernatural comedy which serves as the sequel to Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989) – both directed by Jason's father Ivan Reitman. Thanks to Accessreal, we were treated to an early screening of the film – which included an appearance by the WA Ghostbusters. When a single mother (Carrie Coon) and her two children (Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace) move to a new town, they soon discover they have a connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

Let's get nostalgic with Finn Wolfhard and remember everything we loved about Ghostbusters (1984)! Ivan Reitman's son Jason Reitman directs this sequel to Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989). But this time we ain't in New York City. We're in rural Oklahoma! Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) has passed on and his daughter played by Carrie Coon and his grandchildren played by Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace go to live in Egon's old haunted house in Summerville, Oklahoma. Ghostly happenings haunt the family and familiar Ghostbusters relics appear including Ecto-1, Vinz Clortho the Keymaster, Zuul the Gatekeeper, Gozer the Gozerian, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver! The film also stars Paul Rudd, Celeste O'Connor, and Logan Kim as a character named Podcast. Did this nostalgic cash grab make us Woof hard, or were we delighted at the fan service? Listen and learn as we take Finn Wolfhard's hand into small town Oklahoma!

Turkey day is almost here! Why not fill yourself up with a nice movie review first? For this week's Reel Film Nerd's pod Matt and Mike review Ghostbusters: Afterlife, finally! Not busting ghost topics include going retro, fan service, and Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Do you like ghosts? Do you like busting ghosts? Ok the real question, did you like the original Ghostbusters from 1984? If the answer is yes then you will love Ghostbusters: Afterlife. It is a trip down nostalgia lane to put it lightly. The pacing for the first half of the film is rough. They do have to help us viewers get up to speed with these new characters so it's understandable. The cast is great from Paul Rudd to Annie Potts from the original film. The real stand our performance of Ghostbusters: Afterlife comes from Mckenna Grace. For not even being in high school she really carries this film! Mike absolutely loved Ghostbusters: Afterlife and thinks you should run out to the theater and watch it right now. Matt thinks he is jaded because Mike hasn't been to the theater in a long time. Mike awards the film 4.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt on the other hand had some issues with it being a die hard Ghostbusters fan. He still really enjoyed Ghostbusters: Afterlife but he awards it an average score of 3 out of 5 Reels.   For our next pod Mike and Matt chat about Will Smith's latest biopic King Richard currently in theaters and streaming on HBO Max. Rumors about a “Ghostbusters” sequel have persisted ever since “Ghostbuster II” was released in 1989 including a version penned by Dan Aykroyd that involved the original team traveling to an alternate hellish landscape where the boys in grey would literally battle with the devil. Numerous other versions took shape over the years but each one seemed to stall out after original cast member Bill Murray stated that he just wasn't that interested in coming back for another sequel. The death of Harold Ramis in 2014 also dampened interest in another “Ghostbusters” movie because he had been so instrumental in the first two films both behind and in front of the camera. But then out of nowhere, Jason Reitman — son of original “Ghostbusters” director Ivan Reitman — announced in early 2019 that he was going to direct a new sequel that would carry on the legacy of the original story while also paying homage to the past. While new faces were added to the film, a huge hurdle was cleared when almost all of the original cast members agreed to return after reading the script, which Aykroyd called “beautiful” and “heartfelt” that also “takes the DNA from the first two movies and transfers that directly to the third.” In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to repair the Ecto-1 and make an emergency call to Ray's Occult as we review the 2021 sequel “Ghostbusters: Afterlife”…

Mckenna Grace is an exceptional young actress, who Bob met when she played the role of Rose Harbenberger on the Netflix series, "FULLER HOUSE". In this conversation they talk about all things Mckenna-- As she's in the middle her press tour for her starring role in the major motion picture, "GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE", directed by Jason Reitman. She speaks with gratitude, humility, and good fortune of the gifts she's been given, including a body of work that many actors spend several decades to formulate: From her first roles, at seven years old on "THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS", to "I, TONYA", where she played the young Tonya Harding, to being Esther Keyes, and working with Elizabeth Moss in "THE HANDMAID'S TALE", on to her upcoming projects: The sequel to "THE BAD SEED", which she starred in, now being readied to shoot that she wrote with her father, Ross Burge-- and into an intense six months of training, preparing to play an athlete in Olivia Wilde's "PERFECT". This songwriter, singer, screenwriter, and amazingly talented and honest actress always shows the sweet, charming and kind side of herself, that just IS herself. The Outlaw John Rocha is here with his NON-SPOILER review of GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE. The new film in the Ghostbusters franchise series directed by Jason Reitman and starring Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Logan Kim. "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" tells the story of Callie (Carrie Coon), a single mom struggling to survive in Chicago with her two kids, 12-year-old Phoebe (Grace) and 15-year-old Trevor (Wolfhard). When Callie receives news of her long-estranged father's passing - a father she never even knew - she and the kids pack up the Subaru and move to the small midwestern town of Summerville. As the family settles into their "inheritance," a rotting, worthless dirt farm, they soon discover that they have mysterious ties to a team of paranormal investigators called the Ghostbusters, the specter-catching team who saved New York City from supernatural destruction 35 years ago. #GhostbustersAfterlife #Ghostbusters #Ghostbusters3 #FinnWolfhard #CarrieCoon #McKennaGrace #BillMurray #SigourneyWeaver #DanAykroyd #AnniePotts #ErnieHudson #JasonReitman Join The Outlaw's Patreon at: https://patreon.com/JohnRocha The Outlaw John Rocha Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheRochaSays The Outlaw John Rocha Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therochasays/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-outlaw-nation-network/support

After a lifetime of waiting, then just a few months of waiting, and then hang on, back to waiting for over a year, then finally back to waiting a few months, nope, waiting more months, then weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds... Ghostbusters: Afterlife is here. While Troy is still on sabbatical, trying to return an ancient idol to a museum or deciphering prophetic riddles at the Vatican or some such nonsense, Chris has friend of the show Kevin Lim on to help him parse a little bit of what they saw in their first viewing. And if listening to two Ghostbusters nerds chatter way for an hour isn't your thing - dude, you know what we are here, hours of chatter - Kevin brought some treats from The Kevin and Sonia Morning Show on Kiss Radio Vancouver; Mckenna Grace herself! We are spoiler free in the first part, including Kevin's talk with Mckenna, and then we get downright spoilery in the second half. The heroism of Egon, suspiciously high-powered yet underutilized co-stars, who cried when, and what Ms. Grace has to say about a sequel. Let's go!

Ghostbusters Afterlife is a pleasant surprise. This is a film that had to balance the really difficult task for a film with a cult following of feeding into the nostalgia of long time fans while also bridging the gap to a new generation. While it's not perfect, Ghostbusters Afterlife does a good job of maintaining that balance. There's enough hat tips and callbacks for Ghostbuster fans but the story is also capable of standing on its own.  Ghostbusters Afterlife works well as both an introduction to Ghostbusters and a continuation of the franchise. That's a feat that's really hard to pull off these days. This film is surprisingly fresh in the story it tells. The trailers and TV spots don't really do this movie justice. From the promos you'd think this film relies solely on nostalgia and that's not true. It's a better nuanced story and balance than the promos suggest. Overall the cast is solid. The focus is clearly on Mckenna Grace's Phoebe and she does a great job in the role. By centering the film on her character the film is able to bridge the gap between the two audiences it's trying to connect with. The rest of the cast plays their part in support roles. All of them do a great job even if their characters aren't fully fleshed out. While that can be a problem, this film leaves you curious enough to want more and the lack of attention and depth serves more as a teaser for the future and doesn't feel too much like a deficit.  One of the things that really helps this film is the setting. By moving the story out of New York and into a "middle-of-nowhere" town, Ghostbusters Afterlife feels like it has the room too be it's own story. While there are clearly callbacks and direct ties to the original Ghostbuster films, it helps to not have New York looming in the background like a judgmental parent.  Ghostbusters Afterlife works across the board for everyone. If you weren't interested in seeing this film, it good enough to checkout. If you are a hardcore fan and worried this film wouldn't live up to your expectations, you have nothing to worry about. If you're looking for a film to check out with the family and are willing to brave theaters, this will satisfy that everyone in the family. All around it's a good solid film. It also earns bonus points for setting up for continuing the franchise in new ways.   Like what you hear? Subscribe so you don't miss an episode! Mckenna Grace is 15-years-old and already has dozens of credits and an Emmy nomination to her name. She broke out big starring opposite Chris Evans in Gifted, joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe playing a young Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel, is featured in the downright stellar Haunting of Hill House on Netflix, delivers a truly jaw-dropping performance in The Handmaid's Tale and now she's a key part of the future of the Ghostbusters franchise. Grace plays Phoebe in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. When her family is forced to move to Summerville, Oklahoma and into a creepy old farmhouse her grandfather left them, Phoebe comes to learn that he has quite the legacy. Her grandfather was a Ghostbuster. When Phoebe and her brother Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) come to learn what he was busy doing out there in Summerville, it becomes their responsibility to use the tools he left behind to help save the world. Having someone like Grace on Collider Ladies Night is a blessing and a curse. As you'll hear in the video at the top of this article, I'm a big believer she's one of the most talented actors in the business. Having the opportunity to discuss how she first discovered her passion for acting, how she scored her first Hollywood gigs, what it was like collaborating with other next-level creators like Octavia Spencer, Mike Flanagan, James Wan and more was the ultimate treat. The curse? Even with an extended interview slot, there isn't nearly enough time to highlight all of Grace's accomplishments. We did get to a whole bunch of them though! Check out this edition of Collider Ladies Night to hear all about Grace's experience on Gifted, The Haunting of Hill House, The Handmaid's Tale, her love of skating, working on Ghostbusters: Afterlife and so much more.
