On Episode 130 of the Guest Speaker Series, we welcome bassist, producer, and vocalist, Teeba, to the show! After just receiving a Grammy nomination for his production and bass work on Eminem's latest album ‘The Death of Slim Shady', Teeba has been working on music out in Detroit with renowned producer Denaun Porter for some time now. Teeba describes the journey of how he gradually became closer with Denaun over time, which eventually led to a placement on Eminem's song “Fuel” featuring JID. Teeba is no stranger to having his music land on big songs, as his placements include the likes of Nas, DMX, Dave East, and many more. Teeba is also the founder, bassist, and one of the vocalists of the band Harsh Armadillo, who frequently perform throughout venues in New Hampshire, and New England at large. Teeba also discusses his early years being introduced to the Massachusetts music scene, where he started to connect and work frequently with the likes of Jon Glass, Melks, and SK, amongst others. Teeba truly embodies what it means to be a musician, regardless of the doors that have opened for him because of it. Teeba and Mike also reflect on a variety of other topics, including whether AI in music is a good or bad thing, Doechii winning Hip-Hop Album of the Year at the Grammy's, Teeba's incredible journey traveling on a sailboat across the world as a kid, why South Park should be considered one of the best TV shows ever, and so much more. Barbara Marlowe and her daughter, Teeba Furat Marlowe, joined me to share their remarkable story of love, hope and fate. At the ripe age of almost 2, Teeba suffered severe life-threatening burns after her father's car hit a roadside bomb in Iraq in 2003. A July 16, 2006 newspaper story of the incident would catch the eye of Barbara Marlowe, leading her on the most emotional and awe-inspiring journey of her life. She would bring Teeba to the U.S. exactly one year later - July 16, 2007 - and would formulate a bond with her soon-to-be-daughter, and her daughter's Iraqi family, that is so unbelievable that you have to hear it for yourself. You can buy their book, "A Brave Face: Two Cultures, Two Families, and the Iraqi Girl Who Bound Them Together," on Amazon. This. This is exactly what I've been talking with all of you about; the idea that to change the world, you must only listen to - then act upon - those little whispers in the heart. That's what Barbara Marlowe did when she saw a newspaper photograph of a little girl who desperately needed help. Their story is in the book "A Brave Face" which I encourage you to pick up and read. Barbara and Teeba shared their story with me also, and I can not wait for you all to hear what they had to say. It's touching, awe inspiring, and so full of heart and soul, it will make you weep with joy. ~ Delilah Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers

When she wasn’t even 2 years old, Teeba was a victim of a roadside car bombing that took place in the Diyala Province of Iraq. Teeba recounts the events of the bombing that disfigured her face, head, hands and legs and took her brother’s life. This incredible story begins in Iraq but travels to the United States when a woman, Barbara Marlowe, was captivated by Teeba’s story and photograph in the newspaper. Wanting to supply a wig for Teeba, events quickly escalated and soon Barbara welcomed Teeba into her family. In my time with Teeba, you’ll learn of her perseverance through the hard times in Iraq, her family’s insistence to do whatever it took to help Teeba gain a functional life, and the love between two families of two different cultures that surpasses ignorance and prejudice. Teeba’s story is inspiring as it is educational. I can’t wait for you to hear from this insanely intelligent and mature 16 year old about the incredible lessons that life has given to her. BANG! @southernvangard #radio Ep 134! Hey folks, sometimes it can be tough managing the best damn hip-hop podcast on earth alongside super important things like family, jobs and the like. So this week we had to switch it up a little bit by dropping our mix AND the interview session on Thursday! We have a great interview session this week with Boston producer Jon Glass - not to mention good friend of Southern Vangard Radio, J57, hung out with us during the chat. Glass also hit us with THREE exclusives you can find in our Ep134 mix. On top of THAT, we had an exclusive chat during the mix show with the man that brought us the now infamous Cardi B meme a few weeks ago - the one and only DJ Element! So don’t fret a bit, you don’t have to keep listening to those TRASHCASTS this week- we still serving up that goodness, and it’s always that #smithsonian #grade #twiceaweek // southernvangard.com // @southernvangard on #itunes #podcast #stitcherradio #soundcloud #mixcloud // #hiphop #rap #undergroundhiphop #DJ #mix #interview #podcasts #ATL #WORLDWIDE Recorded live Sept 27, 2017 @ Dirty Blanket Studios, Marietta, GA southernvangard.com @southernvangard on #itunes #podcast #stitcherradio #soundcloud #mixcloud twitter/IG: @jondoeatl @southernvangard @cappuccinomeeks Inst. beds prod. BANG! @southernvangard #radio presents the @OllieTeeba #interview session! This man is a #legend in our books, and we were juiced to sit down for a lovely chat with the co-founder of #Herbaliser - one of the most, if not THE most prominent groups to emerge out of the UK hip-hop scene in the mid-late 90s, and talked about the past, present and future. We get into all the goodness around his latest LP on #WorldExpoRecords called #ShortOrder, including a great story about #JeanGrae and her immense talents and what’s coming down the pike with his crew #Soundsci. We hop in the Wayback Machine and talk about Ollie’s time coming up as a young hip-hop junkie in London, his exploits as running around #CoventGardens and experiencing the explosion of hip-hop culture in London in the early to mid #80s. The conversation gets really interesting as we discuss the influence of US pop culture on the #UK and #Europe at large, and how they seemingly threw that States’ own exports like house and techno right back at itself a full 25 years before dance music became popular music in the States. Pick up the #vinyl of #ShortOrder NOW and get the #digital for free, and keep your eyes peeled for a lot more goodness from #OllieTeeba #JohnnyCuba #Oxygen #Audessey #UGeorge & #Supastition in #2015 and #2016! // southernvangard.com // @southernvangard on @iTunesPodcast @soundcloud @mixcloud @stitcherradio // #hiphop #rap #DJ #mixshow #interviews #podcast #ATL #LONDON #WORLDWIDE Recorded live September 20, 2015 @ Dirty Blanket Studios, Marietta, GA southernvangard.com @southernvangard on @iTunesPodcast @soundcloud @mixcloud @stitcherradio twitter/IG: @jondoeatl @southernvangard @cappuccinomeeks
