Click to Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Youtube-Subscribe-SoapDirt Days of our Lives sees Salem's University Hospital is in a state of unrest, led by Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans), thanks to the controversial management style of EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel). EJ's cost-cutting measures have everyone up in arms, including Kayla's daughter Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein). Things may have been different if Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) had been able to take control, but his arrest at the time of the vote led to EJ's victory. The mystery of EJ's funding and interest in the hospital is a topic of discussion for Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) and Cat Greene (AnnaLynne McCord), as it doesn't seem to be a profitable venture on the NBC Peacock soap opera. DOOL sees the town of Salem is preparing for the opening of the Doctor Tom Horton Free clinic, a response to EJ's hospital management. Kayla Brady is set to host the inaugural party, raising questions about whether Salem needs a free clinic due to EJ's drastic budget cuts. Days of our Lives sees EJ's henchwoman Rita Lesley (Maggie Carney) is causing more trouble, cutting costs on essentials like coffee and fresh food. EJ's lack of attention to the hospital, distracted by Johnny DiMera's (Carson Boatman) trial, could lead to an uprising from the disgruntled hospital staff and patients, possibly led by Kayla Brady herself. The grand opening of the Doctor Tom Horton Free clinic could see a mass exodus of doctors from the hospital to the new clinic. Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are valuable given their broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and their high penetration into various tissues. Yet FQs have also caused concern, with some market withdrawals, important and sometimes long-lasting adverse drug events, and substantial collateral effects on the microbiota. In this episode of Communicable, hosts Emily McDonald and Thomas Tängdén invite Staffan Tevell (Karlstad, Sweden) and Bernadette Young (Oxford, UK) to weigh in on the pro-con debate of FQ use, especially for periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs), which can entail longer treatment durations. They review the standard of care for PJIs, including FQs in combination with rifampicin vs other antibiotic combinations, the impact of the OVIVA trial advocating for early oral switch strategies, the long list of rare but important side effects, and how best to preserve FQs for clinical indications that most need them. This episode is a follow-up from Tevell and Young's recently published systematic review of the role of FQs in PJIs [1]. It was edited by Kathryn Hostettler and peer reviewed by Ljiljana Lukić of University Hospital for Infectious Diseases in Zagreb, Croatia. The executive producer of Communicable is Angela Huttner. Click to Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Youtube-Subscribe-SoapDirt Days of our Lives fans are in for a treat as new developments unfold in the show's complex plotlines. EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel), renowned for his wealth, astonishes everyone by purchasing University Hospital. Speculations arise about Vivian Alamain (Louise Sorel), possibly being a secret partner in this venture. With the finances of EJ DiMera under the joint scrutiny of the ISA and FBI, led by Kat and Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering), it becomes evident that EJ may not have had enough personal wealth to acquire the hospital on the Peacock soap opera. DOOL sees that as the investigation deepens, Vivian Alamain, the mother to EJ's sibling Stefan DiMera (Brandon Barash), emerges as a likely conspirator. Vivian's wealth and close ties to the DiMeras through her twin sons Jake and Stefan make her a viable suspect. The involvement of Gwen Rizczech (Emily O'Brien), who possesses a significant amount of Vann Leuschner money, also raises questions. Days of our Lives sees Vivian's motives for wanting the hospital are speculated. The hospital's research lab could prove lucrative once the FDA approves the life-saving sepsis drug, Versix. Moreover, Vivian's involvement with the DiMera's twisted scientist, Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (now played by Richard Wharton), might suggest a plan for a new version of the patriarch, Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo). Fans are left curious about her sudden wealth and speculated connections with Dimitri von Leuschner DiMera (Peter Porte) on the NBC Peacock soap opera. Meningitis remains a major global health threat, with an estimated 2.5 million cases each year; of these, one in six results in death and one in five in long-term disabilities. Although meningitis “can strike anyone, anywhere in the world,” outbreaks disproportionately impact low- and middle-income countries, where diagnostic and treatment resources are limited. In efforts to address this, WHO launched its first-ever guideline on meningitis diagnosis and management in April this year. In this episode of Communicable, hosts Emily McDonald and Marc Bonten are joined by two experts directly involved in creating the guideline, Lorenzo Pezzoli and Nicolò Binello (WHO), as well as Jacob Bodilsen (Aalborg University), clinician-researcher and Chair of ESCMID's Study Group for Infectious Diseases of the Brain (ESGIB). The guests offer a firsthand look behind the guideline's development, review key recommendations for diagnosis and treatment - including the use of lumbar puncture, antibiotics, and chemoprophylaxis – and discuss how these fit into various clinical settings. This video shares an in production use case of an automation with well designed workflow, that overcomes many of the challenges faced by back-office operations in health care. The automation was carried out by Saint Peter's University Hospital, a teaching hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, with technology and collaboration from Amitech.Meghan Mehlberg, Vice President of Delivery at Amitech, and Michele Goodman, Practice Administrator for the Women's Health Center at Saint Peter's University Hospital, discuss the target of the automation—a large form required by the state of New Jersey called the Perinatal Risk Assessment (PRA)—the barriers the companies overcame to automate filling out the form, and the resulting benefits. The PRA tracks pregnant patients' clinical, environmental, and psychosocial factors that might indicate a need for special intervention; the aforementioned website says it is "for identifying high risk patients to ensure appropriate care management." The form has grown to 350 fields, some mandatory and others optional which has become quite the burden for staff to complete.Learn more about Amitech: https://amitechsolutions.com/Health IT Community: https://www.healthcareittoday.com/

You may have become so used to them that you no longer notice, but snaking through downtown Indianapolis' northwest quadrant are the remains of a revolutionary public transit system that transported riders on elevated tracks 30-feet high. It was called the People Mover, developed for $44 million by Clarian Health Partners, the hospital system now known as Indiana University Health. From its launch in 2003 to 2019, it recorded roughly 6 million rider trips on a 1.4-mile track running between Methodist Hospital, University Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children. The People Mover had the cooperation of city officials, who allowed the track to use public right of way along Senate Avenue, West 11th Street and University Boulevard. And the People Mover was filled with promise, as some predicted it could be expanded to a larger public transit system that would include Indianapolis International Airport. But tram came to screeching halt in 2019, when IU Health said it would begin offering shuttle buses instead and expected to save about $40 million over 10 years. That also was about the time IU Health began planning a massive facility consolidation and modernization project downtown. IBJ reporter Daniel Lee has a personal connection to the People Mover and recently began looking into what remains of the twin-track system and whether IU Health has any plans to resurrect it. In this week's edition of the IBJ Podcast, Lee also gauges support for a proposal that would transform the infrastructure into an elevated trail celebrating the heritage of Black communities on downtown's northwest side.
