Episode 459 / Dana Piazza Dana Piazza is a visual artist who creates abstract drawings and paintings on paper, panel, and canvas through a process of open-ended experimentation, repeating simple marks with brushes, markers, pens, and nibs. The meticulous forms that Piazza conjures on his flat surfaces depict the illusion of depth and movement; they seem voluminous, carrying significant visual weight. He approaches each work as though it were both a puzzle and an experiment, and lets the materials and tools determine the process.   Dana lives and works in Lenox, Massachusetts. He looks forward to featuring at Dallas Art Fair and having his first solo exhibition with TURLEY, by whom he is represented, in the Spring of 2025. I probably should have/could have used an I hook. 2 row repeat that is easy to memorize. Almost done with the 3rd skein. I share a quick goals update and a health update about my parents.   On a Happy Note Dan and I celebrated our 20th Anniversary on May 22nd- the 143rd day of the year (which happened in 2024 only because its a Leap Year- usually Day 143 is May 23rd). Minot's Light Lighthouse's light signal, a 1-4-3 flashing cycle adopted in 1894, is locally referred to as "I LOVE YOU" (1-4-3 being the number of letters in that phrase), and it is often cited as such by romantic couples within its range. Friday of Memorial Day Weekend we went out for dinner (to use up a gift card- which we still had $1 left on when we left) and to a friends' house for a fire. Saturday & Sunday pool days My niece Riley got her learner's permit and drove us home from the grocery store! Teddy and the snorkel (so cute) Baby Vera's first swim The long weekend allowed me the extra day off to clean out our pantry and my closet. I switched out my winter clothes for summer ones, took donations to Savers and did shopping and meal prep for the week. It felt great. The Berkshire International Film Festival in Great Barrington, Massachusetts gets underway May 30 and on Saturday, June 1 it will feature a special tribute event for the documentary "Merchant Ivory" and the filmmaker James Ivory in conversation with documentary director Steven Soucy and WAMC's Joe Donahue.

The 18th Annual Berkshire International Film Festival will present another blockbuster weekend line-up of films, events, and very special guests running from May 30 – June 2 in Great Barrington and Lenox, Massachusetts.

On Season 5, Episode 2, of The Art Career Podcast, Emily sits down with painter, Robin F. Williams, in their Greenpoint, Brooklyn studio. Known for her large-scale paintings of stylized, sentient, yet ambiguously generated female figures, Robin F. Williams (b. 1984) employs a variety of techniques, including oil, airbrush, poured paint, marbling, and staining of raw canvas to create deeply textured and complexly constructed paintings. Combining a masterful technical understanding with an innate sense of curiosity, Williams fuses practices from social media channels such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube with references to early modernism, pop culture, advertising, and cinema, to challenge the systemic conventions around representations of women. Williams received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and has presented solo exhibitions at P·P·O·W, New York, NY; Various Small Fires, Los Angeles, CA; Bard College at Simon's Rock, Great Barrington, MA; Jack the Pelican Presents, Brooklyn, NY; and Morán Morán, Mexico City, Mexico.
