Ruthie and Brian talk through S3E6 of Star Trek: Discovery, titled Scavengers. Burnham and Georgiou go on an unsanctioned mission to rescue Book and get a Black Box. Burnham and Saru deal with the reprecussions of that decision. We talk A LOT about that.

Star Trek: Discovery – Season 3 Episode 6 – Scavengers We’re back!!! Ruthie and Brian talk through Star Trek: Discovery, Season 3 Episode 6, titled Scavengers. This episode’s teleplay was by Anne Cofell Saunders, and it was directed by Doug Aarniokoski. SPOILERS AHEAD!!! If you haven’t seen this episode of Star Trek: Discovery, stop right now!!! Go watch it, then come back!!! We’ll be here for you! NCC-1031-A? I don’t get it. They replaced almost every piece of the Enterprise NCC-1701, but it didn’t get the A. That was called a refit. This is called a retrofit. Why does it get the A? The All-in-One Communicator/Transporter/PADD/Tricorders… we don’t like them! Let me specifically say why I don’t like them. We can’t see enough detail in them to see how many pips there are, and the color changes are varied enough to be seen very well. Burnham and Saru… We both had issues with Burnham and Saru in this episode. It leaked into practically every section of this podcast. Specifically, we don’t like the direction they are taking her character. We also think that Saru could have stopped it from happening before it started! Messy Chapters this week… You will notice, if you’re the type of listener that uses our chapters, they’re a bit sloppy this week. Ruthie and I delved into Burnham and Saru’s actions in this episode during our Yeses, and they are clearly Nos. Rather than try to edit them to all be together with the rest of the Nos, it felt more authentic to leave them as they were. Star Trek: Discovery – Season 3 Episode 4 – Forget Me Not We’re back but not all of us. Unfortunately, Ruthie cannot join us again this week due to her power still being out at the time of recording, so Brian is joined by LT from NC for the second week in a row to talk through Star Trek: Discovery, Season 3 Episode 4, titled Forget Me Not. This episode was written by Alan McElroy & Chris Silvestri & Anthony Maranville and directed by Hanelle M. Culpepper, who directed the first three episodes of Star Trek: Picard. SPOILERS AHEAD!!! If you haven’t seen this episode of Star Trek: Discovery, stop right now!!! Go watch it, then come back!!! We’ll be here for you! Trill We arrive on the Trill homeworld and, unlike Earth, the world is welcome to Starfleet. What they weren’t so welcome to was a symbiont in a non-Trill host. We both enjoyed most of what we saw in this story, although it did have a few weak points. Thanksgiving Day Dinner, Starfleet Style! One of the more amusing parts of this story was the Saru dinner, a sort of Thanksgiving day festivity on the Discovery, followed by a holo-movie. Zora is alive! We finally see something from the second Short Trek, Calypso. Zora, the artificial intelligence we see interact with Craft in that Short Trek, emerges when the computer does not give Saru good recommendations. Limiting dairy and therapeutic coloring books aren’t going to do it for this crew! Spot the References… Again, there were a lot of references this week, more than last week. Ruthie couldn't join us this week, so Brian had guests LT from The Walking Dead Talk Through and long-time listener James the Augmented Sailor join him to talk through S3E3 of Star Trek: Discovery, titled People of Earth. We enjoyed this expositional episode, but not as much as the first two. Earth has gone through a lot of changes since 2258, but it's strangely more like modern-day Earth than the one we see in the 23rd Century.

Star Trek: Discovery – Season 3 Episode 2 – Far From Home We’re back! Brian and Ruthie talk through Star Trek: Discovery, Season 3 Episode 2, titled Far From Home. Like the premiere, this episode was written by Michelle Paradise & Jenny Lumet & Alex Kurtzman and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi. SPOILERS AHEAD!!! If you haven’t seen this episode of Star Trek: Discovery, stop right now!!! Go watch it, then come back!!! We’ll be here for you! Welcome… to the future!!! The USS Discovery has arrived in the 32nd Century, but it had a bumpy ride. It lands on an inhospitable planet, known only by its inhabitants as The Colony. Several people have their bells rung, Detmer especially. There wasn’t really any payoff to Detmer, but we might see something from this in future episodes. Hazmat clean-up on aisle 5!!! Jett Reno is back, and boy was she funny this episode! She had some of the best lines ever heard on this show. Bad guys This episode had a bit of a Western feel, with a barroom brawl and a villain. More to follow… Spot the References… Again, there were a lot of references this week, though not as many as last week. I used this Den of Geek article to help find them. Brian, and Ruthie talk through Star Trek: Discovery S3E2, titled Far From Home. The USS Discovery has arrived in the 32nd Century, and not everything has gone well. They land on a very inhospitable world, nowhere near where they planned, and don't know when they are. This episode was another good one.

The USS Discovery finds itself back in the prime universe nine months from the time they unexpectedly ended up in the Mirror universe. They are forcibly boarded by Federation officers and officials, including Admiral Katrina Cornwell and Ambassador Sarek. The Discovery crew learn the Klingons are winning the war having destroyed over 1/3 of the Federation fleet and taken over 20% of Federation territory. The Discovery’s Mirror counterparts, the ISS Discovery was destroyed by The Klingons soon after it appeared in the prime universe. The Klingons are not united. Instead, Klingon houses are wantonly destroying Federation efforts to demonstrate dominance among the other Klingon dynasties. L’Rell advises Cornwell, now that the Klingons have tasted their blood, they will not stop the destruction until the Federation and its people are annihilated. Michael Burnham turns to Mirror Georgiou for advice, since the former Terran Emperor has had success against the Klingons in her world. Burnham subsequently reveals Mirror Georgiou’s presence and identity to Sarek and Admiral Cornwall. Desperate to find a way to save the Federation, with Sarek’s knowledge Cornwell places Mirror Georgiou in command of the Discovery under the ruse that she is actually the former Captain of the Shengzhou. Cornwell claimed Georgiou had been presumed dead but actually had been held by the Klingons and was recently rescued in a covert operation. Georgiou is now charged with leading a mission to – Kronos - the Klingon home world – where they are to gather intel to destroy key military assets to decisively turn the tide of the war to the Federation’s favor.
Burnham comes face to face with the Terran Emperor while Saru tries to find a way to help Tyler and Stamets meets a familiar face in the mycelial network.
In Episode 12, ‘Vaulting Ambition,’ we find ourselves still in the Mirror Universe with ever increasing danger. Michael Burnham and Captain Lorca are summoned to the Emperor’s Palace ship, the ISS Charon, to confront the Terran Emperor, a ruthless Mirror version of Captain Philippa Georgiou. She sentences Lorca to suffer unending pain for the remainder of his life in the Agonizer for the failed coup attempt he led. To celebrate his capture the Emperor invites Michael to dine with her on fresh Kelpian soup. It’s at this dinner that Mirror Georgiou reveals she had uncovered Mirror Burnham’s betrayal and sentences her to death for treason. To save herself and salvage her mission, Michael confesses her true identity as an agent of the Federation. She proves her claims by showing the Emperor the Prime Georgiou’s delta pin that Michael had retrived from Kol. Mirror Georgiou agrees to spare Michael’s life and the Discovery crew, if she will share the schematics for their spore propulsion drive. Georgiou also provides Michael with information about her Doppelgänger and Lorca that convinces Michael that the man she has been serving with actually is the treasonous conspirator of the Mirror universe. Simultaneously with this revelation, Lorca escapes the agonizer booth and reconfirms his identity as Mirror Lorca. Stamets, whose consciousness is trapped within the mycellial network, must find a way to reconnect with his physical body in hopes it will save himself. Culber reappears to Stamets to inform him of his fate, but also to let him know that nothing truly dies. He tells him Mirror Stamets is not to be trusted and is responsible for an infection that is destroying the mycelial network and, ultimately, life itself throughout the multiverse. Back on the Discovery in sickbay, Lt. Ash Tyler is at war within himself as two consciousness – Tyler and Voq - violently battle for control of his body. Saru seeks L’Rell’s help to resolve the matter. He transports Tyler into L’Rell’s cell and tells her she will have to deal with him whether she wants to or not. L’Rell consents and performs a procedure on Tyler that supposedly has terminated Voq’s consciousness.
