Here we go with the start of a new month and with it a new mix of fresh new sounds.I actually ran out of new tunes, it was a well discussed topic in the chatroom as to whether I had enough. So I decided to end the mix with two of my own tracks, Can't Play which was my second track made and my latest one, Beautiful Persons.I was also so happy to be able to play a track I melted in 1998 in my attic room in Nottingham. I got excited when Defected bought Strictly Rhythm's back catalogue but The Believers, Heather Wildman - Gotta Keep Holding On wasn't released. Imagine my surprise when it suddenly shows up in Traxsource!Locking in the guest DJ for this month, Tony Garcia of Rotary Disco fame. He produced the excellent remake or Nights Over Egypt - Over Pyramids that appeared in last months mix. One of the nicest guys in the scene, I can't to have him on.For those of you in Sydney you can catch me next on Feb 16th playing for Soul Of Sydney who are doing a Frankie Knuckles tribute event. Looking forward to spinning vinyl from across the decades for a very appreciative older crowd. Finally - it was nice to be able to pay respects to the late, great Michael Procter. Tony Garcia's journey through the radio industry over the past four decades provides a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of syndicated content and the changing landscape of the medium. From his early days as an intern at the iconic WNBC in New York during the 1980s, Tony's enthusiasm for radio was palpable, as he recounted the excitement of being part of the station's shift from album rock to the burgeoning new wave scene. This passion led Tony to create his own syndicated show, "Wave Breaker," while at WNYU. Through sheer determination and a willingness to learn on the job, he navigated the complexities of distribution, leveraging techniques like bulk-erasing tapes to get the show into the hands of eager college radio stations across the country, and in Europe. This laid the foundation for Tony's deep understanding of the syndication business, which he would go on to apply in roles at companies like Progressive Radio Network and the Wall Street Journal Report.Tony's insights into the strategies employed by media giants like Dow Jones, who adeptly repurposed content across their various platforms, underscores the importance of adaptability in an ever-changing industry. The transition from vinyl to CDs, and eventually digital distribution, further highlights Tony's ability to evolve with the times, always seeking to provide the most efficient and cost-effective solutions for his clients. The story of Tony's involvement with the Bob & Sheri show, from the initial challenges to the eventual triumph, exemplifies his knack for identifying and nurturing talent. By enabling ownership of their IP and digital presence, Tony demonstrated a keen understanding of the value of intellectual property in an increasingly fragmented media landscape. As Tony looks ahead to the future, his enthusiasm for the potential of hyper-local podcasts and the continued expansion of Bob & Sheri, and publishing ventures reflects a visionary mindset.A video and transcript of the episode can be found on the network website. Please sign up for the SOUNDING OFF Newsletter. Hospitals are under continued pressure to reduce costs and deliver better care. CoFounders of Rebate Insight, Tony Garcia and Jonas Langvad, explain the benefits of rebate management to Jim Cagliostro. Episode Introduction Tony & Jonas explain why 100% of rebates go straight to the bottom line, share the 3 Ms of rebate management, and highlight how Rebate Insight's SaaS solution is increasing hospital rebates by 26% or more. They also explain how ‘'dark data'' blurs visibility into rebate management and celebrate being part of SpendMend. Show Topics Rebate management should be a priority in healthcare Manual processes make it difficult to track rebates The 3 M's of rebate management Dark data and the pain points of rebate management Benefits of Software-as-a-Service (SAAS) The value of SpendMend 02:29 Rebate management should be a priority in healthcare Tony said in times of financial pressure, rebates go straight to the bottom line to boost margins. ‘'I think I'll start a little bit at the high level, to get to the 10,000-foot level for hospitals. The financial performance of a hospital is always important, and I think we've had a few interesting years in the past here, coming out of, first of all, covid introduced a lot of additional costs for hospitals, labor shortages, and product shortages for sure that spiked prices. Then after that, we've seen a great deal of inflation and products increasing dramatically in price, so that's really impacted hospitals in a big way. I think right now, just the financial situation, everyone's looking to see what can be done to reduce cost, stay competitive. When it comes to rebates, rebate management, it's historically been one of those areas that maybe hasn't been looked at that closely because it is a little bit of a complex area to manage. I think what ends up happening is when you think about, if hospitals are looking for areas to save money in, to reduce costs, they can have different initiatives. On the revenue side, if you end up increasing revenue by let's say a few million, only about 2% to 4% of that ends up going to the bottom line, because that's usually the margin of a hospital. It's very low-margin on the revenue side. However, if you're able to increase rebates on the cost side, 100% of that is going to go to the bottom line. You have a huge upside potential if you're able to manage rebates well and increase those rebates.'' 05:53 Manual processes make it difficult to track rebates Jonas explained the benefits of automation in rebate management. ‘'I come with 25 years of healthcare experience. I've been a director at a health system in Southern California, and this is how this was all created. It was so difficult to track rebates, and the benefit of tracking them and knowing what is owed and what the vendor should be paying you and if you're going to meet your market share was so important and critical, but it was just too hard because the process has always been manual. Historically to this day, we've had many discussions with very large IDNs, some of the largest IDNs in the nation, and also on the lower end with smaller hospitals, and they all have the same issue. They're all using a manual process. They all have teams of staff that do different things, so it's always been difficult to track rebates. I think now, historically, we created this software that automates that process, where you're not having to go to a spreadsheet every other day, where it's giving you notifications in real time. You're always aware of what's going on in your contracts, where your market share, where your spend is, and just giving you a lot of insight into rebates and making sure that the vendors are paying you out, paying you on time, and also that you're meeting their commitment through the agreement as well. It really helps the materials team handle all that.'' 08:02 The 3 M's of rebate management Tony explained the importance of monitoring, managing, and maximizing and how Rebate Insight helps hospitals to achieve all three. ‘'Looking at this product and taking all the different information that you receive, we found that by monitoring, managing, and maximizing ... those are our three M's. Those really, if you were to see the demo or if you were to see the dashboard, it really kicks in, and you're able to ... under the whole monitoring is monitoring what your health system's doing. How are you handling every contract that goes into Rebate Insight, giving you at a high level all the information you need, and then going into the managing piece where it's more detailed specific to each agreement. Then going into the maximizing, where you're able to go in and if it is fifteen days, five days before your quarter ends or your annual commitment ends and you have to make a decision, you're able to do this all through the software, in real time, in a point-click SaaS product. You're able to effectively go into this product and make decisions or see where you currently stand, all in real time.'' 11:11 Dark data and the pain points of rebate management Tony said hospitals share many common pain points. ‘'Some of the common pain points are we don't know what is owed to us. We don't have any expertise and rebate insight. We work kind of siloed. We don't know what AP is receiving. Checks are going everywhere. We're receiving credit memos that people are not aware of. There's just a lot of that what I say is like dark data out there, and no visibility for the health system as a whole. One thing we found while we were creating this is how many people are involved and how many people should be in the process of rebate tracking that are not, just because you have someone like the director negotiating agreements, putting rebates in place, but you have, on the other side, AP that is receiving the checks, or maybe the vendors are bringing the checks to the director. Just a lot of mismanagement of also where checks are. A lot of times checks are lost, so there's nothing really that connects everybody. That's what's so great about Rebate Insight. It's all built in that platform where AP has a module, where directors can have access to that dashboard, and then the materials team has access as well.'' 13:56 4 Benefits of Software-as-a-Service (SAAS) Jonas said Rebate Insight can help to support renegotiating contract terms with suppliers. ‘'Really, I think when we think about value is we think about it almost in different buckets, right? We think about I should say it goes under financial leakage, is you make sure you receive what you're owed. That's a big piece. Second is if you can speed up the actual payment, receive it earlier, then you can gain some value from having that cash on hand. Then third, what we think about is if you can maximize your existing agreements, you have opportunities at a given time throughout the year where you might be able to go to a higher tier because you're so close. You spend a little bit more money to get a bigger benefit. Then finally, when you have a tool like this ... and I think Tony can speak to this as well ... is you get that visibility into all your agreements. That enables you to just have discussion with suppliers and vendors and say, "Why don't we renegotiate our terms? Give me a little bit higher rebate," which when you can track it, that's a huge benefit for the health system and you're going to see that financial return.'' 19:22 The value of SpendMend Tony and Jonas agreed that being with SpendMend feels more like a partnership. ‘'At first, there's always a little hesitation of selling your creation, right, but the value that SpendMend brings to the table with their 30 years experience in the health system, it has just been so great for at least speaking for myself, and I know Jonas will talk a little bit of this as well. I mean, when you really partner with ... and that's what it really feels like. It doesn't feel like, "Hey, you got bought out and that's it." No, it really feels like we partnered with SpendMend, and it just really opens up a lot of doors for us. Again, with that experience, being able to go to certain leaders in the organization and able to have a sales team, a marketing team, is huge. Those all have been great benefits, and super excited and really almost privileged to have that opportunity.'' Connect with Lisa Miller on LinkedIn Connect with Jim Cagliostro on LinkedIn Connect with Tony Garcia on LinkedIn Connect with Jonas Langvad on LinkedIn Check out VIE Healthcare and SpendMend You'll also hear: Understanding rebates: ‘'For those not familiar with rebates, right, it's basically a supplier that offers you an incentive on a contract. If you buy X number of products, they'll give you let's say 5% back on a rebate. Usually there's some criteria tied to it, but that's sort of the starting point there.'' The benefits of Rebate Insight's SaaS tool: ‘'… we're seeing how systems that are using Rebate Insight increase their rebates by 26% or more by using the tool.'' How Rebate Insight transforms rebate management: ‘'It's subscription-based, cloud-based, which makes it very easy to sign up for, implement. There are no expensive servers …it pulls together all the data from different sources… It really gives you that real-time view of this is where you stand today. You can monitor all your rebates, all your contracts this way, all your compliance.‘' Rebate Insight tracks trends and tiers for hospitals: ‘'Rebate Insight tracks your trends. You could go back and look at the quarter and say, "Wow, my trend for last quarter was tier two, but we're still signed on tier one. Oh, this quarter is tier two as well. The vendors don't tell you that. The vendors rarely come back and say, "Hey, you've been achieving tier two, go ahead and click on it because now your price is dropping 20%." Those of you who have watched or listened to Winfluence for a while know that I got my professional start in radio. I marched myself into the local radio station at 14-years-old and said, “I wanna be a deejay!” And for some reason they said, “Okay. You start Friday.” I pursued radio through high school and college, navigated the world of broadcasting and sports hoping to one day land at ESPN. I actually interviewed there the same week I interviewed for its parent company, ABC. My first full-time job out of college wound up as a producer at ABC Radio Sports in New York. My experiences included working on a nationally syndicated radio show, managing stringers and reporters for day-to-day sports coverage, producing longer-form feature pieces you could argue were essentially podcasts. But this was well before most people had access to the Internet and devices, bandwidth and such were affordable. Or even possible. We talk about influence on this show and radio is one of those mediums that we're quick to overlook. My mother developed a nationally recognized, award-winning communications program a few years back in my small hometown in Eastern Kentucky. It wound up being a success because she knew what most of us don't know. In a rural community, the local morning show deejay is probably the most influential person in town outside of the county judge. Tony Garcia knows the power of radio. Like me, he worked in the broadcasting industry back in the 1990s. He is the co-founder of a company called Now! Media. You may not recognize that company. But the other “company” he co-founded in conjunction with it is the Bob and Sheri Show. It is a nationally syndicated radio show hosted by Bob Lacey and Sheri Lynch. They're based in Charlotte, but are syndicated on 70 affiliates across the U.S. The weekday morning show is also heard in 177 countries and on 150 ships at sea along the American Forces Network. Now, a traditional, terrestrial radio show isn't something you'd think would flourish in our on-demand, always connected, internet world. But the Bob and Sheri Show is different. Not only have they spun the show and segments of it into podcasts and an active social media presence that includes a Facebook Group number over 115,000 members. But they have hacked the advertising and sponsorship model for even small businesses. When I learned that, I knew we had to have Tony on the show. Because what they've built is a hidden gem of influence, both online and off. And we can learn from them. This episode of Winfluence is presented by CIPIO.ai. Dr Tony Garcia talks about the book he jointly authored with Ian van der Waag on the Great War roles of roles played by the South African prime minister, General Louis Botha, and his deputy, General Jan Smuts during the Great War. These were very different men and they appealed to different audiences. Botha's nuance and emotional intelligence complemented Smuts's intellectualism. Thrown into a world conflagration in August 1914, Botha and Smuts – facing internal rebellion and the threat posed by German troops on their borders – led South Africa's Union Defence Force, and often commanded from the front. South Africa's campaigns began badly. The campaigns in German South West and East Africa started with reverses at Sandfontein in September 1914 and Salaitia in January 1916. However, Springbok soldiers of all backgrounds proved resilient, and the later campaigns were marked by near uniform success. The “first-battle” experiences had reshaped thinking and led to better leadership and command at all levels. Both Botha and Smuts commanded in the field. Steadily, the South African army they commanded – benefiting from wartime training, sometimes in the field – gained resilience, experience, and battle-hardiness, adapting to the conditions of the campaigns and the demands of the tasks. South Africa's campaigns were complex and divergent, starting with the invasion of neighbouring German South West Africa – to neutralise the radio stations and so aid security in the South Atlantic. Suddenly suspended following the outbreak of the Afrikaner Rebellion, the campaign recommenced in January 1915. Following its conclusion, an infantry brigade, raised for the Western Front, was diverted to Egypt before facing near annihilation at Delville Wood. Reconstructed more than once, the brigade was accompanied by a field ambulance and general hospital. The South African deployment in France included two brigades of heavy artillery, a signal company, a railway company, and Auxiliary Horse Transport Company, and several South African Native Labour Contingents. At the same time, a large South African force, fighting alongside troops from British Africa and India, broke German resistance in East Africa, and a brigade of field artillery and later the Cape Corps served in Egypt and Palestine. In addition, more than 6 500 South Africans served in the British Army, the Royal Flying Corps, later the Royal Air Force, and on ships of the Royal Navy. Although lionised during the war by a British public hungry for heroes, there is a different side to Botha and Smuts. Shunned by Afrikaner nationalists at the time, they have remained divisive figures. Responsible for the enactment of the Land Act of 1913, which shaped South Africa's socio-economic and political landscape, Botha's statue in Cape Town was vandalised in 2015 and 2016. Behind his charming, attractive façade, and Smuts's stoic machine, were two very human, imperfect, and quite probably inconsiderate, men. Together they provide a wonderful lens through which to examine the potent forces of the early twentieth-century world and the country they hoped to forge. Myopic compatriots had constrained their plans; but it was the outbreak of war in 1914 that offered the most significant opportunities and brought the most adverse challenges. They fought insurmountable odds, and achieved great victories, at home and abroad, but also made startling errors, and, ultimately, in classical fashion risked being crushed by the weight of the world they tried to create. Ian van der Waag is a faculty member in Military History at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Tony Garcia is Research Fellow at Stellenbosch University. His latest book publication The First Campaign Victory of the Great War was published by Helion in 2019.

First up I want to give a big shout out to this weeks crew in the chat room. The ever reliable Mr David Smith whom I've known since I was 16! Chucky (Mr Congas) a fine upstanding Englishman now calling Sydney home. Steve (DJDippedInDeep), fellow Pressure Radio DJ whose supported since my early days on Pressure. Neensy, my partner in crime and one of the most amazing people I've ever known. Last but by no means least Della Benz who I first spoke to back in 2012! She is responsible for the last track of the mix. During the show she mentioned an opening track from a mix around 2011. Toward the end of the show she found it, the rest is already history! As with most c2eMusic mixes of the last 10 years this was another last minute shopping spree 30 minutes before the show followed by a live seat of the pants musical adventure. I'm really happy with the result. It feels different to most c2eMusic mixes, can't put my finger on it, but it does. Let me know if you agree, and why that is.Finally I'd like to give a couple of big shouts out to a coupe of producers featured in the mix. First up is my mate Steve Robinson who hails from Merseyside not too far from where I grew up. Now calling Sydney home Steve has a formidable work ethic, seemingly making music from dusk till dawn. Both tracks from his latest release "Worth The Wait EP" are right up my alley. Looking forward to what's to come from this rising star.Next is a DJ/Producer that needs no introduction to Kiwis. DJ Dick Johnson aka Magik J another ex Brit now living this side of the equator. He was the resident DJ at the club I went to when I was 16 (yes I know I started young). He got me into the US Garage sound back in 91 and I've never looked back. His track "Into The Groove (String Mix)" is a return to his Blackpool roots and is currently tearing up floors around the world.Props to Tony Garcia and Steve Robinson for playing great music out and about in Sydney this month. Heard a couple of these tunes from you guys playing them. Thank you for introducing me to them.Remember if there is an old c2eMusic mix that's no longer available in iTunes etc reach out and I'll prioritise to get it loaded next.Tracklisting:1: Krywald, Farrer - He's The Chief2: Frits Wentink - Trouble Man (Jovonn Drive Mix)3: DJ Steaw - Destiny4: Don Swing - In The Flow5: Miguel Migs - Lost Messages (Miguel Migs Salty Dub)6: Akabu, Jinadu - Highways (Dave Lee Medusa Dub)7: Steve Robinson - Worth The Wait8: Frits Wentink - Mars Landings 9: Uneaq - All Night10: Roach Motel - Movie On (Correct House Mix)11: Hurlee - Get Moving12: Steve Robinson - Takes So Long13: DJ Steaw - Riding High14: Byron The Aquarius - Get Up15: Krywald, Farrer - The People's Asafo16: Dick Johnson - Into The Groove (String Mix)17: Jazzmik - Let's Get Together18: Vincenzo Gerri - Tough Groove19: Ian Carrera - Fall Into You20: Danny J Lewis - Release (Extended Version)21: The Check Up, Ale Castro - Pleasure22: Vincent - How I Feel23: Hollow Fraud - Sara Tonin24: Luciano - Los Ninos De FueraEnjoy!

According to authorities, a retired police officer shot by his wife last week faces more than a dozen criminal charges alleging he sexually abused children at her day care center. In a luxury hotel in Washington, D.C., Shanteari Weems shot her husband over allegations he molested children under her care, police said. Baltimore County Police said Tuesday that James Weems Jr., 57, was charged with sexually abusing three children while working at a day care facility. Currently, he is in the Washington, D.C., hospital being treated for a gunshot wound and awaiting extradition to Maryland. Among the charges against Weems are assault, sexual abuse of a minor, and displaying obscene material to a minor. After a standoff with police at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Shanteari Weems was arrested Thursday. According to authorities, she told an officer at the hotel room's door, "F**k him, he's a child molester." Police have charged her with assault with intent to kill and assault with a dangerous weapon. Friday is the date of her preliminary hearing. According to the Baltimore Sun, her lawyer Joseph Fay and his co-counsel, Tony Garcia, are "looking forward to providing Ms. Weems with a vigorous defense." It is his hope that the court will consider that she has never hurt anyone in her life, and that she has dedicated herself to other people's children for the sake of their livelihoods. Garcia and the couple met at the hotel to discuss the child abuse allegations. During the argument, the woman fired her gun after her husband stood up and started "going towards" her, according to the attorney. "I think this woman was torn apart by guilt - that this was her own husband - and by fear when he attacked her," Garcia said. “She's just in this swamp of fear and guilt at this moment. It was very clear that she did not want him to molest another child. Not on her watch.” According to authorities, her husband retired from the Baltimore Police Department in 2005. Following reports of sexual abuse, Baltimore County Police began investigating James Weems earlier this month. According to authorities, Lil Kidz Kastle has been closed pending the investigation.
