The year ended with an absolute whirlwind for Michigan and Utah football. First, the Wolverines fired Sherrone Moore for an inappropriate relationship with a staffer. Within the next 48 hours, he was arrested and arraigned at a local courthouse, marking an unexpected twist as the story took a dark turn. Just two weeks later, the longtime coach of Utah, Kyle Whittingham, was introduced as Michigan's next head coach after succession plans led to an uneasy exit from Salt Lake City. In this episode, we talk with Dan Wetzel from ESPN and Sean O'Connell from ESPN 700 to go inside the ropes and understand what happened during a wild two weeks in December, what it was like to track the Moore news, how Whittingham ended up in Ann Arbor, and more. On the heels of a successful West Coast trip and another impressive double-digit win over Indiana, Tony and Andrew are back on the mics to recap it all. The guys begin by breaking down Michigan’s insane defensive pressure at the start of the game against Indiana and the Wolverines rediscovering their fastball after an uncharacteristic four-game stretch. They also talk about Yaxel Lendeborg playing through a calf injury and the physical and mental struggles that can come with that. Then after a quick break, Tony grades Michigan football’s transfer portal moves under Kyle Whittingham for the offense, defense and special teams, with a clear (and maybe unexpected) winner. Read all about the Michigan Wolverines by heading to our website at freep.com/sports.
Jon and Brian start the show by breaking down Michigan's latest roster updates and reacting to the coaching staff that Kyle Whittingham put together. It's safe to say that Michigan football had a tumultuous start to the offseason after losing to Ohio State, but since new coach Kyle Whittingham was introduced on Dec. 28 things have actually ... started to calm down. It's a sign of the competency that Whittingham was brought to Michigan for. Yes, the Wolverines have had some attrition via the transfer portal and declarations for the NFL draft, but overall, Michigan has held onto many of its most important players while adding some key talent from Whittingham's former team among other portal commits. Andrew and Tony open the show by discussing the last few weeks for Michigan, and Tony names the five portal additions and subtractions that Michigan fans should know. Then after the break, the guys discuss Michigan basketball finally coming back to Earth with its first loss of the season to Wisconsin and preview the Wolverines' trip to the West Coast for games against Washington and Oregon. Read all about the Michigan Wolverines by heading to our website at freep.com/sports.

The first episode of Bigger Ten for 2026 covers Indiana's humiliation of Alabama in the Rose Bowl, proving Curt Cignetti's turnaround is historic. Recorded: January 5th 2026 | On this episode of Bussin’ With The Boys, Will Compton and Taylor Lewan interview new head coach of Michigan football, Kyle Whittingham, and 2x Pro Bowl safety for the Chicago Bears, Kevin Byard! The boys kick things off previewing Jarod Beeman's standup show, and a roundtable of New Year’s resolutions—including Jack McPherson, Mitch’s new diet, JP committing to a book a month, Taylor reading more, writing more, and goals around getting to bed earlier, giving back, and being more charitable. There’s plenty of classic Bussin’ banter along the way, including gout talk, fandom debates, Mr. Beast crossing into college football, and Taylor’s Uber Eats pet peeve. From there, the show transitions into a sit-down with Kyle Whittingham, who opens up about the move from Utah to Michigan, navigating the modern NIL era, and what it takes to build culture at a new program. Whittingham clears up retirement rumors, reflects on his time at Utah with no regrets, breaks down expectations for Michigan’s offense and defense, and shares thoughts on meeting the team during bowl season, adopting Michigan’s iconic blue, staying off the internet, motorcycles, skiing with players, and an incredible 6,500-day workout streak. Taylor and Will close out the interview with a debrief on what stood out from the conversation. Later in the episode, Kevin Byard joins the show to preview Bears vs. Packers and talk through leadership in Chicago, starting slow amid outside noise, adapting to a new team, and what makes the Green Bay rivalry different. KB dives into game planning, defensive details, NIL hypotheticals, money vs. program culture, SEC vs. Big Ten debates, Ben Johnson vs. Mike Vrabel philosophies, Caleb Williams, and when he truly bought into the Bears’ locker room. The episode wraps with more Bussin chaos, clean takes, and a Stranger Things finale discussion to send it home. Big Hugs.Tiny Kisses. FOX Sports' lead College Football analyst Joel Klatt makes his picks for the College Football Playoff Semifinals between Indiana & Oregon and Miami vs Ole Miss. Klatt points out Oregon's best path to an upset against the only unbeaten team in the country. He then makes his pick as Miami takes on an Ole Miss team that is coming off a huge win over Georgia but also dealing with continued coaching uncertainty as several staff members are juggling two jobs – for Lane Kiffin's LSU team and for the Rebels - as they prepare for the biggest game in Ole Miss history. Klatt also reacts to the latest Portal news as Indiana has found their QB and WR combo for next year's team. Men's Basketball vs USC Starts at :51 Basketball gets to go first because they've earned it. They're the number one team on Kenpom by a full five points and the second highest rated Kenpom team of all time. Michigan shot 20% from three and still beat a top 25 USC team by 30 points. This was the Morez Johnson game. Michigan has three of the top five players in the Big Ten. What does a Michigan loss look like? Dusty May has done a great job working on Roddy Gayle, auto-benching with this team is fine. The cutoff for Kenpom to think you're a rotational player is 10% of team minutes, Grady and Goodman are both above this metric. The things that Michigan are good at are things that are very repeatable. There are different levels of Kenpom Time every time Michigan plays. It's weird to say this but it's good that Michigan gets Nebraska at home, they're spicy. 2. Football vs Texas Starts at 24:34 The Citrus Bowl came and went. We were hoping we could learn things about this offensive line going into the off-season then a lot of them went and hit the portal. Kuzdzal played an encouraging game but there were still a few moments of "I wish Jordan Marshall had hit that hole." Bryce Underwood did get some explosive runs, this will be nice for a new coaching staff that likes to run the quarterback. He was put in a lot of positions to fail towards the end of the game. Kerry Coombs did some things with special teams! Wow Michigan drew holds finally. We are done with the Wink Martindale era. Michigan had zero pass rush. 3. Hot Takes and Coaching Staff Starts at 40:11 Takes hotter than the basketball team, this will be the intro until any reason otherwise. Offensive Coordinator - Jason Beck Came in from Utah, was at New Mexico before that. Has had some very successful offenses. Was a spread-heavy coach at New Mexico and became Whittingham-ized at Utah. Seems like a seamless fit, he should know what to do with Bryce Underwood. Running Backs Coach - Tony Alford It's working, good work keeping him around. Wide Receivers Coach(es) - Micah Simon and Marques Hagans Micah Simon doesn't have a lot of experience, he followed Beck. How much coaching does it take to get someone to catch the ball? Tight Ends Coach - Freddie Whittingham He's developed some studs. Kyle Whittingham's brother, does not feel like a nepotism hire. Offensive Line Coach - Jim Harding Has two first round tackles this year. Probably could not have gotten a better o-line coach. Michigan has players trickling into the portal but you've got The Guy coaching next year's group. A lot of offensive linemen got recruited by Sherrone so it's not a shocker that some players are looking elsewhere. Defensive Coordinator - Jay Hill Turned Weber State into a powerhouse. He has coordinator and head coaching experience, seems good. He has coached college his whole career rather than coordinate NFL defenses. Defensive Ends - Lewis Powell Specializes in Polynesians. Has a spectacular track record of developing defensive ends. Brian pledges to figure out how to pronounce all the Polynesian names. Defensive Tackles - Lou Esposito Continued from last year. You can get more assistant coaches now so it makes sense to split DEs and DTs. Linebackers Coach - Alex Whittingham Kyle's son, spent eight years with the Chiefs. Apparently Andy Reid played with Kyle Whittingham. This one is a bit more of a nepo hire but he has moved up the ranks. Defensive Backs Coach - Jernaro Gilford BYU fans are upset that he's leaving which is a good sign. There aren't a lot of cornerbacks in the portal, hopefully he can find some guys. Special Teams - Kerry Coombs Gets to keep the job he got right before Sherrone was fired. His previous Special Teams have been in the 30ish rank. He's not a slam dunk but should be solid. 4. Transfer Portal Starts at 1:42:43 It's Portal Takes season, we have not yet gotten to Portal Gives season. Guys who are in the portal are not necessarily gone. Jadyn Davis, Davis Warren, Ben Roebuck, Connor Jones, Devon Baxter, Semaj Morgan, Jaden Mangham, and Jasper Parker are guys who will probably get better opportunities elsewhere. Elijah Dotson, Brady Prieskorn, and Kaden Strayhorn are guys you'd like to keep around. Zeke Berry, Jake Guarnera, Andrew Sprague, Cole Sullivan, and Enow Etta are the "ouch" group. Some guys have left the door open. Would really really like to get Guarnera back, Sprague sounds like he's going to Texas. Most folks who are going to enter the portal have but we're not out of it yet. Keep an eye on Utah defensive end John Henry Daley, cornerback Smith Snowden, and safety Tao Johnson. Cole Sullivan would be a great fit in this defense, would love to keep him. They need guys (plural) on the defensive line, especially at defensive tackle. Even if you keep Andrew Marsh you would like to get a wide receiver or two. Might want to look into a punter or a kicker, maybe with a new staff we can finally move on from the 2015 Michigan State game. RUNDOWN Mitch and Hotshot break down the massive Seahawks–49ers matchup, laying out the stark difference between winning the NFC's top seed versus entering the playoffs as a road-bound wild card. They debate San Francisco's battered defense, Seattle's dominant defense, and whether Sam Darnold can rediscover the early-season form that once put him in MVP conversations—especially after scoring just 18 total first-half points over the last four games. Mitch floats a classic emotional hedge: bet the 49ers money-line so a Seahawks win feels priceless and a loss at least comes with consolation cash. Mitch and Brady Henderson break down Seattle's 27–10 win over Carolina, praising another elite defensive performance while sounding alarms about the offense's habit of slow starts and turnovers, with just 18 first-half points over the last four games. They preview Saturday night's NFC West showdown in Santa Clara, weighing a battered 49ers defense against Brock Purdy's red-hot offense and debating which version of Sam Darnold shows up. The segment closes with Taco Time honors for DeMarcus Lawrence and Zach Charbonnet, as Seattle stands one win away from the NFC's No. 1 seed and a first-round bye. Rick Neuheisel joins Mitch for a wide-ranging College Football Playoff preview, diagnosing Clemson's 7–6 collapse as the moment NIL and the portal finally "happened" to Dabo Swinney, and reacting with surprise to Kyle Whittingham leaving Utah for Michigan as a potential cleanup hire. Neuheisel breaks down all four CFP games, backing Ohio State to survive Miami, Texas Tech to upset Oregon, Indiana to knock off Alabama, and Ole Miss to take down Georgia. He locks in Ole Miss plus the points as his official pick, staying hot at 8–6 against the spread while handing out Taco Time honors along the way.
