The (New) Joy of Gaming Podcast - Episode Seventeen Dead Space Remake, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, and The Last of Us: Part 1 On this episode of The (New) Joy of Gaming Podcast, we're back after the winter break and our GOTY episode, and a lot has happened in the game industry since our last regular episode. There's been some interesting news about this year's E3 Expo - as well as the Resident Evil 4 Remake and its lack of QTEs - but probably the biggest story of the past few weeks was the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, where Microsoft shared news on Starfield and Redfall, among other titles. We also discuss the latest releases from Limited Run Games, the newest additions to Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus, and some of the notable games we've been playing lately, including the Dead Space remake, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, TLOU: Part 1 and more. Heya! I bet you weren’t expecting this episode of Nerds Without Pants so soon! Well, since we got delayed a week with our first episode back from hiatus we decided to record this one a week later to stay on the schedule we had planned. It’s an all-Consumption Junction edition of NWP because we…had a ton of games to talk about! In a surprise twist Justin played The Sims 4. He also checked out Chained Echoes. Julian finished Crisis Core and has some thoughts about the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, and tries to explain some thoughts he’s been having about RPGs. Then it’s a quick mention of Theatrhythm Final Bar Line before an EXTENSIVE discussion of Fire Emblem Engage. We have a couple quick hits before ending with some bigger games like Hi-Fi Rush and God of War: Ragnarok! Note every gamescast can be full of amazing games, and this one particular has quite a few games that we have issues with. We talk about the loot mechanics in Darktide, and the repetitiveness of Crisis Core. We do talk some more about Grim Dawn, which is a fantastic game, and Dome Keeper which is a quality mining simulation. Discord: https://discord.gg/VRKasRV

Originally Recorded on 12/21/22. This is just a straight up goof. Sean thought he had posted the audio version and turns out he did not. Unfortunately, due to further personal issues for Sean, we haven't been able to keep a set schedule, but at least we do have another episode of Video Games 2 the MAX for ya. Although the Game Awards have passed, there's been quite a bit of fallout from it that isn't just the announcements and awards, (although the guys are going to discuss some of their favorite things from it and about the show in general), such as the show doing incredibly well in viewership numbers, more information on some of the announcements, criticism towards Xbox for basically no showing the event, especially when their rivals did have announcements at the Game Awards, and more. Microsoft is seemingly making more strides in concessions to help the Activision-Blizzard deal go through, including offering Call of Duty on PS Plus and offering that 10-year deal as well. Then, there's the other side of it where the FTC is suing to block the acquisition, but the EU and CMA may be heading the other way on it. At least there is some interesting news on the Game Pass front with a possible ad-supported tier coming and that High on Life is doing great numbers on the service. Plus, Sean is excited that the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters are finally coming to consoles. The Amazon God of War show is gonna be EPIC. Henry Cavill leaves the Superman role but now looks to be starting a Warhammer movie universe. Sean and Marc have both played Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, Sean is loving Chained Echoes, and much more. And the award goes to…Bill Clinton? This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, Cameron Daxon, Marc Kaliroff, and Campbell Gill celebrate Awards Season by reacting to the good, the bad, and the utterly bizarre at the 2022 Game Awards, along with reviews of the much-anticipated Switch RPGs Harvestella and Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII – Reunion. The gang kicks things off by running through the biggest announcements at the Game Awards of 2022 that were most relevant to Nintendo fans. From a sequel to one of the best roguelikes on the market to a surprise follow-up to a controversial award winner, the show certainly did bring a few exciting bits of news for fans of the Big N. Yet nothing compares to the biggest delight of the show: a new trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which goes where few other game movies have gone before: using music from the source material in the actual film. What a novelty! Next up, Cameron turns things down a notch with impressions of two Square Enix RPGs that might fail to meet expectations. First up is Harvestella, the apocalypse-meets-farming-sim whose promising premise suffers under a repetitive, basic, and surprisingly barebones gameplay loop. Then, there's the baffling Crisis Core, a followup to Final Fantasy VII with an excellent remaster for modern platforms that does little to address the oddities of the original release.
