Joanna began her career in action fare such as Steve McQueen's thriller Bullitt, the Jason Robards drama Fools, The Laughing Policeman starring Walter Matthau and The Outfit with Robert Duvall. Her first co-starring role came opposite George C. Scott in the offbeat comedy caper The Bank Shot. Television became an important medium for her in the late 1970s, with guest parts on all the popular shows of the time, including Dallas. Trapper John, M.D., Taxi, Starsky and Hutch, Charlie's Angels, Lou Grant and a recurring role on Falcon Crest. Joanna languished in three failed series attempts--The Roller Girls, 240-Robert and The Family Tree--before hitting the jackpot with the sitcom Buffalo Bill opposite Dabney Coleman. The 1980s also brought about positive, critical reception for Joanna on film as well, especially in a number of showy portrayals, notably her snake-dancing replicant in the futuristic sci-fi thriller Blade Runner, her radio journalist involved with Nick Nolte and Ed Harris in the political drama Under Fire and her co-starring role in a wacky triangle with Bob Hoskins and a hyperkinetic hare in the highly ambitious part toon/part fantasy film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Back on the TV front she was seen in recurring roles on L.A. Law, Diagnosis Murder, The District and Boston Legal. Since then Joanna has juggled a number of quality film and TV assignments, including her Emmy-nominated recurring role as a quirky, capricious mother/psychiatrist in Six Feet Under. Joanna currently stars in the movie Killing Faith opposite Guy Pierce and Bill Pullman. Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)

#GoodBar #history #truecrimeIn this episode we feature a return guest from 2021, Deb Berry, and we will discuss the 1970s fictional book and film Looking For Mr Goodbar as well as the actual case that was its inspiration and the reporter, Lacey Fosburgh, who covered it.Travels With the Dark: Stories from humans in the “Limit-Experience”This “special” episode is the first in what promises to be a series concerning real occurrences of human beings when they are brought into or more aptly, up against “limit-experience”, a phrase from French and German philosophers that attempts to describe in the most general way what human beings undergo when they are thrust into situations that push them to their limits and conditions of maximum intensity. While originally this was intended to be a series in the “True Crime” genre I wondered to myself if subject and theme could extended outward. It might not even only encompass the most negative aspect of human experience.I have been fascinated with the so-called "Goodbar" case yet I loved and knew about the 1977 movie and then the novel before I even knew that it concerned a real woman and her story - Roseann Quinn. It was genuine delight to talk with Deb on the subject and I honestly can't think of any better collaborator for this episode.Notes from our special guest, Deb BerryOn this week's episode, we're joined by Madame B (aka Deb) for a deep dive into the 1973 murder of Roseann Quinn, the case that inspired the Judith Rossner book “Looking for Mr. Goodbar,” which was later adapted to the film starring Diane Keaton in a sharp turn against her previous role as Annie Hall and a young Richard Gere in his stunning breakout role. While the book and film have generated much discourse over the years, most of it has revolved around Quinn's victimology, with little discussion of her killer, John Wayne Wilson, and his respective background, psychopathology and motives. So today, Mitch and Deb draw upon another book about the Quinn case, “Closing Time: The True Story of the ‘Goodbar' Murder” by the late New York Times reporter Lacey Fosburgh, to explore the lesser-discussed aspects of the crime which occurred on the Upper West Side of Manhattan during the height of an era of cultural- and social upheaval in America. Set against the backdrop of the early 1970s with the forces of the sexual revolution and second-wave feminism behind it, the Quinn murder was a perfect storm of social, cultural, psychological and even religious factors that begs examination of this complex landscape and its relevance to the murder.More about amazing Deb:Madame B (aka Deb) grew up in Chicago during the 1970s when it was disco balls, Cubs games, deep-dish pizza—and the occasional serial killer hiding in plain sight as a birthday-party clown-for-hire. Like a lot of girls at that time, she loved roller-skating, “Laverne & Shirley” and “Donny Osmond” (and she had the purple socks to prove it). But beneath her feathered hair and Bee Gees T-shirt was a secret obsession she didn't dare share with anyone—not her parents, not her teachers, not even her best friends: murder. In her public life, she swooned right along with her girlfriends over Leif Garrett and Scott Baio in issues of “Tiger Beat,” but in secret, she read “Helter Skelter” and devoured every detective show the ‘70s had to offer—“Kojak”, “The Rockford Files”, “Starsky & Hutch”, “Beretta”, “Ironside” and “Hawaii Five-0”, just to name a few. She came to see these shows not just as entertainment, but as something that held the key to understanding the danger that lurked right outside her door.Back then, being into true crime wasn't just uncool—it was weird, creepy, and not a thing that girls (or anyone) are supposed to be into. She believes you can dive into the darkest corners of human behavior without glamorizing or mythologizing it, and maybe even laugh about it now and then, as long as you know where the punchlines end.
"Do it...do it." Based on the 1970s buddy cop TV series, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson assume the roles of the two detectives tasked with taking down a drug kingpin (Vince Vaughn). Co-starring Snoop Dogg, Jason Bateman, Fred Williamson, Carmen Electra, Amy Smart and Chris Penn.
In this episode Adam Upper from Beyond the Batcast joins me in talking about 2 cop comedies from the early 2000s with Starsky and Hutch and Super Troopers.

It's not everyday that you get to talk philosophy with your favorite 70's TV icon. I had a chance to sit down with actor, director, writer, artist, and philanthropist Paul Michael Glaser. As a kid growing up I must have watched every episode of Starsky and Hutch and I was always Team Starsky. We talked about creativity, his beliefs, mortality, and resilience. He is a great example of someone who tries to stay in the moment. At 82, Paul is still actively writing and he is an accomplished artist whose work is shown in galleries. I really enjoyed the conversation. On a side note- for my brother Eddie, who upon finding out I was going to talk with Paul had one question he wanted me to ask him, " what happened to Huggy Bear?" . I don't know I didn't ask him that. Paul Michael Glaser Art Facebook Instagram Paul's children's book Chrystallia and the Source of Light PaulMichaelGlaser.org Learn more about your ad choices. This week on Podcast Like It's the 2000s, Emily and Phil are joined by screenwriter and podcast host Clay Keller (@claykeller) to revisit Todd Phillips' Starsky & Hutch (2004), the action comedy that helped cement early 2000s buddy cop nostalgia. As they continue their deep dive into the films of "The Todd's" Haynes, Phillips, Solondz, and Field they examine how Starsky & Hutch fits into the era's obsession with 70s throwbacks, the comedic chemistry of Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, and whether Snoop Dogg's Huggy Bear is the most chill informant in cinematic history. Is this just a goofy relic of its time or a lowkey blueprint for the modern comedy franchise? Let's find out.

Phil and Emily are kicking off their new mini-series The Films of “The Todds”—a deep dive into the wildly different worlds of Todd Haynes, Todd Phillips, Todd Solondz, and Todd Field. They dive into the wild world of 2000s comedy, the pressure of filming iconic scenes, and the unique challenges of being the “straight person” in movies full of larger-than-life characters like Tom Green and Ben Stiller.Amy shares behind-the-scenes stories about navigating fratty set environments, balancing TV and film work, and the surreal experience of going from indie darling to mainstream star. Plus, she reveals the surprising connection between Todd Phillips and Quentin Tarantino that even die-hard fans might not know.

Brande - my 200th guest! It was wonderful to finally sit down with Brande and talk to her about her role in Wes Craven's “Dracula II: Ascension” and getting a better understanding of what it was like to play her role as ‘Tanya' and to gain insight what it was like to film the movie as well. We also dived in about her movie, “Wineville” which happens to be her directorial debut! I am certain that the movie is going to make an impact in the horror community. It's most certainly a great achievement for any actress to direct her first film, especially when you are as talented as she is. We also kind of went off topic and spoke about her role in “Starsky and Hutch” acting alongside Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson! She gave a little tidbit about a scene that was 100% improvised and the director kept that scene in the movie.Brande provides some resounding advice for those aspiring actors and actresses at the end of the interview, advice you might want to take her up on.You can catch Brande in the horror convention circuit but mostly in her most recent movie, “Wineville” which can be watch anywhere where movies are streamed. You can also follow her on Facebook and Instagram and show her your support!

Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we begin a new series on 1997's Interstate '76. We set the game a bit in its time, talk about Activision (almost as an afterthought), and then start getting into the characters and the vibe, of which there is much. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Early mission or two Issues covered: a game time forgot, playing a sim game genre, a unique take on the sim genre plus car combat, prepping the sim elements vs the actual play, other games from that year, taking a formula and doing something different with it, modern exploitation-inspired games, exploitation cinema, grindhouse, other potential influences and inspirations, why you pick sparse environments, breakable cacti, a huge variety of games, low-cost film-making and democratization, vigilantes, a bland corporation, text adventures, a business and not a game company, seeing the impact of acquisition or mergers, character introductions, fake actors playing characters, character names, Groove Champion vs Stiletto Anyway, stylized and simplified characters, flat shading and seeing every polygon, connecting to the character in the cockpit and via the radio, naturally cinematic, stylized presence, jitteriness and physics, compounding errors, deterministic physics, preserving this game and finding ways to play it, just shipping a game, dealing with a controller vs keyboard. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: TIE Fighter (series), Starfighter, MechWarrior (series), Voltron, Diablo, Resident Evil, The Last Express, Fallout, GoldenEye, Castlevania: SotN, Age of Empires, Outlaws, Curse of Monkey Island, Dark Forces 2, Shadows of the Empire, Wing Commander: Prophecy, Final Fantasy VII, Mario Kart 64, Gran Turismo, PlayStation, Dark Forces, Final Fantasy Tactics, Wet, Kane and Lynch, Suda 51, Grasshopper Interactive, Killer 7, Death Race 2000, Russ Meyers, Death Proof, Mad Max (series), MegaMan 8, Kaeon, Cleopatra Jones, Enter the Dragon, Jim Kelly, Bruce Lee, Game of Death, Quentin Tarantino, Kill Bill, Fist of Fury, Starsky and Hutch, River Raid, Pitfall, David Crane, Atari, Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Capcom, Blizzard, id Software, Interplay, Infocom, Zork (series), Witness, Enchanter (series), Ballyhoo, Lurking Horror, Electronic Arts, Bobby Kotick, Nintendo, BattleZone, Pac-Man, Jason Schreier, Play Nice: The Rise and Fall of Blizzard Entertainment, Hearthstone, Marvel Snap, Ultima (series), Bioware, Treyarch, Raven Software, Heretic/Hexen, Quake, Battletech/FASA Entertainment, Anachronox, Pam Grier, Chuck Norris, Dungeon Keeper, Half-Life 2, Indiana Jones and the Internal Machine, Video Game History Foundation, Star Wars: Episode I: Racer, Forza (series), Falcon (series), Dark Souls, Minecraft, LostLake86, Mors, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia. https://buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain/extras At relatively short notice, we're organising two events in Ukraine in the last week of January. Lviv (part 2) and Kyiv. The event we ran in August 2023 was a huge success, and had a great impact. Now our aim is even more ambitious. Two cities. Two events. Multiple panels consisting of the best experts, and all filmed in high definition for the channel. https://buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain/extras But it costs. Last time the overall cost was £3,500 for Live in Lviv, and we covered 80% of this through ticket sales. This time the costs are higher, and there's less opportunity to sell tickets at the available venues and studios, so I'm creating a campaign to raise £5,000 to make this trip a reality. We also have a much more ambitious programme to film interviews around Kyiv and Lviv for the channel. This project will have an impact, so please help if you can. https://buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain/extras ---------- SILICON CURTAIN FILM FUNDRAISER A project to make a documentary film in Ukraine, to raise awareness of Ukraine's struggle and in supporting a team running aid convoys to Ukraine's front-line towns. https://buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain/extras ----------
This week on the pod we're diving into the archives and revisiting a classic episode. Rob is joined by comedian, actor and resident QI panellist, Alan Davies, to chat about a variety of topics including the 1970s US cop show Starsky and Hutch, Coronation Street's Vera Duckworth, and how he's starting to write a novel. The ‘Jonathan Creek' star also discusses a particularly difficult stand-up experience, and how his comedy was inspired by the alternative 80s sitcom, ‘The Young Ones'.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson play Detectives David Starsky and Ken Hutchison in the 2004 Hollywood remake of Starsky and Hutch. They chase bad-buy-drug-lord Vince Vaughn across fictional Bay City in a hopped up '76 Gran Torino, painted Dodge Viper red with a beefed up small block Ford under the good. They get in a dance off, are accosted by Will Ferrell into acting like naked dragon riders, shoot a pony and a Karmann Ghia, all just to get to the bottom of the mysterious untraceable cocaine deal that Jason Bateman (Vaughn's henchman) is making happen. This movie is full of one liners, good cars, and a version of Huggy Bear played by Snoop Dogg that'll give you faith in the underworld. But best of all, it ends in a car chase littered with jumps across a golf course and (almost) landed on a yacht. 10 Striped Tomatoes all around! ======================================== Join up via Patreon at patreon.com/KFSHOW Kibbe, Corndog, and the Bern! Give online therapy a try at betterhelp.com/BENEATH and get on your way to being your best self.” ** Sometimes, a classic film is primed for being turned into a successful television series — think “M*A*S*H*,” “Alice,” “In The Heat of the Night,” or “Peyton Place.” But this isn't always the case. There have been many classic films turned into TV shows with less-than-stellar results. Does anyone remember the “Casablanca" TV show on ABC with Starsky & Hutch star DAVID SOUL filling in for HUMPHREY BOGART? Don't worry, nobody else does either! This week, we take a look at a few of the TV series that were based on classic movies that didn't quite hit the mark. Fund conversations that matter: donate.accessmore.com Peanut butter and jelly, Starsky and Hutch, Chips and queso, Cagney and Lacey, tea and honey, Dolly and Jelly Roll…there are some partnerships that just make sense, like they were absolutely made for each other. Well on today's bonus conversation on Back Porch Theology, we get to introduce y'all to a new friend that fits us like a glove called Sight and Sound Theatre. Sight and Sound – or S'squared, which is the cool nickname Alli and I have cooked up for them! – is an awesome organization with a purpose and passion for bringing stories to life that reveal the power of the Gospel. What began as one couple's prayer and a single slide projector fifty years ago has since grown into two live theater locations, an online streaming platform, and a feature film studio, reaching audiences around the world with stories from the pages of scripture and history. And since there's not much we love more here on BPT than telling stories about who God is and the faithful things He does, we fell pretty hard for these folks because showcasing His redemptive mercy is their primary motivation too! We can't wait for you to meet them, so please grab your Bible and a cup of something iced and caffeinated – I don't start drinking hot coffee until the weather starts cooling down because there's just something about holding a steaming beverage while my sweaty thighs are sticking to the seat that grieves me – and come prop your feet up on the porch with us.Daniel Live is playing now. What do Evel Knievel, Captain America, Kenny Roberts and the Terminator have in common? In 2018 Emma, Michael and myself scored an interview with Gary Davis, the coolest guy you've probably never heard of. Gary was inducted into the AMA hall of fame for his career as a racer, daredevil and stuntman. In 1969 he raced alongside greats like Kenny Roberts and Gary Scott. In 1972 he beat Evil Knievel's record by jumping 21 cars. But it wasn't an ordinary jump. He did it with a a partner, both at the same time and passing each other in mid air only feet apart. He then became a stuntman in the movies and TV, doing all of Evel's stunts in Viva Knievel and countless other spots. Next he became a stunt coordinator and 2nd Unit director on films like Terminator 2, Predator 2, Starsky and Hutch, and Torque. And in 2018 he was inducted into the AMA Hall of Fame. He is still in the business today, as well as being a collector, a bike builder and all around cool guy.
