In today's edition of The Update Journal, we say goodbye to the old Dunkin' $6 Meal Deal — because apparently breakfast had a working-class era and corporate decided it was time for layoffs. For a brief, beautiful moment, six dollars could get you fed, caffeinated, and emotionally prepared to face society. Now? We gather around the hash browns, lower the flag to half-croissant, and remember when breakfast had a budget and dignity came with a wake-up wrap. Then, A Closer Look heads into the drama over at 60 Minutes, where Scott Pelley reportedly confronted the show's new executive producer, Nick Bilton, during a staff meeting. And listen — when Scott Pelley is the one bringing the heat, you know something has gone terribly wrong, because this is not a man built for nonsense. This is a man who looks like he fact-checks his own dreams. Reportedly confronting the boss in a staff meeting? That's not workplace tension. That's “the group chat is going to be unbearable by lunch” energy. And today's Honorable Mention takes us into the future of teen romance, where some boys are choosing AI girlfriends over real-life relationships — with experts warning that the consequences could be disastrous. Because apparently dating has gotten so exhausting that some people said, “You know what would make this easier? Removing the human.” Nothing says healthy emotional development like forming a deep connection with an app that remembers your birthday because a server farm told it to. We used to worry about teens not going outside. Now we have to worry that their first breakup is going to come with a software update. In the headlines on #TheUpdate this Thursday, a prediction market reported former U.S. Rep. George Santos to federal prosecutors after he boasted he'd be going to President Trump's State of the Union address, then bet against his own attendance, according to a person familiar with the investigation.A stranger stabbed a 42-year-old man during an early Wednesday clash just blocks from Times Square, police said. The victim was knifed once in the chest just after 2 a.m. outside a building on West 42nd Street near Ninth Avenue in Hell's Kitchen, a storefront shared by a Chinese restaurant and a pizzeria, cops said. And out in the American West, a man was shot and killed by the FBI after taking 10 school employees hostage inside a Southern California office building and warning that he had strapped explosives to himself and some of the hostages, police said.

Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Someone close to Buster Murdaugh called Alex “a selfish, selfish old man” after the Supreme Court granted a retrial. That's not the language of a family rallying behind a defendant. That's the language of a family that's done.Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke work through listener questions about the distance between the 2023 family and the 2026 family. Buster testified for his father three years ago. Now he reportedly won't visit him. The brothers who went on Good Morning America insisting Alex was innocent have gone quiet. And then there's Maggie's side—Marian Proctor testified in trial one that Alex never once talked about finding who killed his own wife and son.Robin analyzes what three years of financial crime revelations do to family loyalty. The people who stood by Alex before the full picture emerged had to reckon with the scope of his deception afterward. Dozens of financial crime convictions. Stolen money from people the family knew. An entire legacy destroyed. Robin explains the behavioral pattern: the last people to let go are the ones who don't come back.Tony and Robin examine what the defense does when the witnesses who humanized Alex in round one become unavailable or hostile in round two.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? According to prosecutors, David Anthony Burke allegedly fatally stabbed Celeste Rivas Hernandez in his Hollywood Hills garage, then drove over a hundred miles to a remote location to allegedly dispose of evidence. The following morning, he reportedly gave a radio interview to promote his album. In the days and weeks that followed, prosecutors allege he ordered chainsaws, a body bag, and an inflatable pool under a fake name — and forensic evidence reportedly connects those items to injuries found on Celeste's remains. This Hidden Killers Week in Review combines two episodes analyzing the prosecution's case through the expertise of retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott. The People's Brief outlines what prosecutors characterize as years of alleged sexual exploitation preceding the alleged murder. Burke reportedly met Celeste when she was eleven. The relationship allegedly became sexual when she was thirteen. By fourteen, she was reportedly traveling with him to Las Vegas, London, and Texas. Prosecutors say Burke was informed by deputies during a welfare check that Celeste was thirteen and that she had been reported missing — and that he allegedly continued pursuing her. When her parents confiscated her phone, the prosecution alleges Burke drove to Lake Elsinore and paid a classmate a thousand dollars to deliver a replacement device.Coffindaffer analyzes the alleged exploitation timeline through her FBI behavioral analysis experience and examines the systemic failure points — including what the welfare check should have triggered and how the alleged grooming pattern connects to the prosecution's theory of motive. Scott addresses the psychological profile prosecutors are constructing, including the alleged capacity to conceal both the relationship and, later, the alleged crime from associates who reportedly detected the smell of decay from Burke's home and vehicle over an extended period. Burke has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His attorneys maintain he is innocent and did not cause Celeste's death.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
