Episode No. 772 features art historians Zanna Gilbert and Andrew Perchuk; and curator Meg Linton, museum director Taras Matla, and associate museum director Steve Comba. Along with Emily Pugh, Gilbert and Perchuk are the project leads for "Ed Ruscha's Streets of Los Angeles," a Getty Research Institute project that has, among other things, digitized Ed Ruscha's five-decade-long photographic project to document the streets of Los Angeles. The GRI project also considers Ruscha's Streets of Los Angeles archive within a range of historical frameworks, spotlights what it tells us about modern and contemporary art, architecture, and the physical, social, and cultural geographies of Los Angeles. GRI-produced websites include: "Artist, Image, Archive, City," a free digital book featuring visualizations, essays, images and more (the book is also available in free PDF and EPUB formats); "12 Sunsets," which features Ruscha's famed photos of the Sunset Strip, including how the street has changed over the last 50 years; The Ed Ruscha's Streets of Los Angeles Archive at the GRI; Research Collections Viewer for Ruscha's photographs of Sunset Boulevard and Hollywood Boulevard; Research Collections Viewer for Ruscha's photographs of (other) Los Angeles streets; Digitized images from the collection. On the second segment, we discuss the dispersal of artist Steve Roden's estate with curator Meg Linton, who has advised the estate, University of Maryland Art Gallery director Taras Matla, and Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College associate director Steve Comba. Roden was a Los Angeles-area-based artist who worked in sound, sculpture, painting, and other media, who passed away in 2023 at the age of 59. The Roden estate has recently dispersed works to museums all over the United States, including those represented on this week's program, as well as to the Grunwald Center at the Hammer Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art, Ruby City, San Antonio, and more. Roden created sound for The MAN Podcast in 2011. Air date: August 20, 2026.

Greg and Patrick rant about Buc-ee's, debate terrible TV characters, reality shows, wrestling heels, aging, friendship, and staying connected.The Grown Ass Man Podcast is back with Episode 4, and Greg DeMarco and Patrick O'Dowd somehow turn Buc-ee's, bad sitcom people, reality TV, wrestling heels, and decades of friendship into one surprisingly connected conversation.The episode opens with what should have been a simple question about whether Patrick has ever been to Buc-ee's. Instead, it becomes a full-scale discussion about hype, branding, traffic, destination culture, and why some places somehow become mandatory stops even when the thing itself might not deserve nearly that much attention. Buc-ee's becomes a running target throughout the episode, and Patrick makes his feelings about the wildly popular gas station very clear.From there, Greg brings up Patrick's recent Five by Five on Bandwagon Nerds, where shows like Friends, Seinfeld, and The Office landed among Patrick's least favorites. Rather than arguing over whether those shows are good or bad, the conversation turns into something more interesting: why are audiences so entertained by terrible people?That question takes the guys everywhere. Sitcom characters, wrestling babyfaces and heels, reality television, antiheroes, manipulation, betrayal, and competition shows all become part of the discussion. The Traitors, The Mole, and Survivor come up as examples of shows where deception and selfish behavior are not just tolerated, they are basically the point. Somewhere along the way, the guys also revisit Cop Rock, because apparently some television ideas really do deserve to stay buried.Greg delivers another Grown Ass Moment of the Week, while the conversation also drifts into neighborhood life, aging, old college and radio memories, and the strange ways adult friendships change over time. Those detours eventually lead Greg and Patrick back to the beginning of their own friendship and the long history they have shared through wrestling, radio, podcasting, and everything that came after.Underneath all the sarcasm and ridiculousness, Episode 4 ends up being about connection. Greg and Patrick talk Spider-Man life lessons, cruise ship karaoke fame, family, empty nests, and an episode title born from one simple joke.The Grown Ass Man Podcast is back with Episode 3, and Greg DeMarco and Patrick O'Dowd continue proving that the best conversations are usually the ones that refuse to stay on schedule.This week starts with Spider-Man: Brand New Day and the surprisingly grown-up life lessons buried inside a superhero story. Greg and Patrick focus especially on Frank Castle telling Peter Parker that he cannot do life alone, that surviving everything by himself is not something anyone should aspire to, and that even the strongest people still need others around them. The conversation becomes less about superheroes and more about life itself, with Peter's real opponent not necessarily being a villain, but the weight of everything he is trying to carry.That discussion hits especially close to home as Greg talks about seeing the movie with his son and preparing to become an empty-nester when his daughter leaves for college in two weeks. Patrick brings plenty of family material of his own after returning from a cruise with his wife and son, although his trip apparently included far more karaoke fame and far fewer dead bodies than advertised.Patrick explains how he became something of a cruise ship celebrity by singing karaoke and attracting a small group of enthusiastic college-aged fans. That leads Greg to question just how confident Patrick is about their ages, prompting the line that ultimately became the episode title: “God, I'm Hoping They're Legal.”The cruise stories only get more ridiculous from there. Patrick's son accuses him of being a liar after one of their tours was supposedly going to include “bodies,” meaning actual dead bodies, only for none to appear. That disappointment turns into a running joke throughout the episode and produces another potential title: “This Cruise Was Built On A Web Of Lies.”Greg also delivers his Grown Ass Moment of the Week, while the guys briefly touch on WWE SummerSlam before eventually making their way through all 12 possible episode titles they collected during the recording. Reviewing those titles becomes one of the funniest parts of the show, as Greg and Patrick are forced to retrace the strange path the conversation took and decide which throwaway line best represents the episode.Episode 3 is positive, loose, thoughtful, and completely unwilling to follow the planned order. It is about Spider-Man, family, friendship, cruise ship karaoke, empty nests, false promises of dead bodies, and the realization that growing older does not mean figuring everything out alone. What does it mean to love your country?  Is that nationalism?  And isn't nationalism—you know—bad?  And how should our allegiance and love of country be weighed against our duties and affections to family and faith?   Saving Elephants host Josh Lewis is joined by John Wilsey to discuss his latest book, God and Country: Upholding Faith, History, and National Identity, the origins of nationalism and how it differs from patriotism, the link between history and love of ones country, the battles between the Romantics and Rationalists, and that great public servant, the freak show John Quincy Adams.   About John Wilsey From the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary   Dr. John Wilsey is Professor of Church History and Philosophy and Chair of the Department of Church History and Historical Theology.   Prior to coming to Southern, Wilsey taught elementary, middle, and high school students in history and Bible for eleven years in North Carolina and Virginia. He also has served Southern Baptist churches, as an associate pastor in Charlottesville, Virginia for eight years and interim pastor for three years in Spring, Texas. Between 2011 and 2017, he taught history and philosophy at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, with most of his teaching load in a fully accredited baccalaureate program in a maximum-security unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.   Dr. Wilsey's primary areas of teaching at Southern Seminary and Boyce College are in modern church history, history of Western thought, and American history. He supervises PhD dissertations in the areas of American church history and history of philosophy.   In addition to his work at Southern Seminary and Boyce College, Wilsey has held several fellowships, including with the McConnell Center at the University of Louisville as non-resident fellow (2023-2024); the Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty as Affiliate Scholar (2016-2020); the Russell Kirk Center for Cultural Renewal as Wilbur Fellow (2023); and the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions in the Politics Department at Princeton University as William E. Simon Fellow in Religion and Public Life (2017-2018). We've hit the first of many potential finales for #TheCloneSaga but as we know it was not meant to be. It also is the start of massive retcons, many clones, multiple fake outs etc. Saying that, this collection of stories though compounded by tragedy, still features one of the many bright spots within this infamous comic book event.
