Wendy Wax joins Carol Fitzgerald to talk about her latest novel, The Break-Up Book Club, a Bookreporter Bets On selection. Wendy is known for writing character-driven novels; she jokes during the interview that there are times she wishes she could skip plot and conflict and just write characters. The Break-Up Book Club is a briskly-paced story about a group of very different people that come together to share their love of reading and discuss books at a bookstore. There's the sports agent and single mother, the empty nester, the fiancé dealing with her high school sweetheart's cold feet, and the woman caught up in both husband and mother-in-law drama. During their book group discussions, they each share personal experiences and come to support one another. “What happens at book club stays at book club.” Wendy talks to Carol about her personal journey writing this book, and how she struggled during the editing process with one particular character. She talks about what makes a book enjoyable, as well as what it means for people to love different things in fiction and how that can be brought to the conversation in book clubs. Anyone in a book group will enjoy getting to know members of The Break-Up Book Club. The Accidental Bestseller by Wendy WaxThe Accidental Bestseller by Wendy Wax is a women's fiction novel. The story provides us with an inside view of the lives and careers of four women writers. Wendy Wax touches on the seriousness of how authors must sacrifice and work hard to succeed in the highly competitive book publishing arena. However, regardless of the seriousness of the subject matter, The Accidental Bestseller turned out to be a nice summer read for me. The Accidental Bestseller is about four women writers who met some years ago at a writer's conference. Each woman is from a different part of the country, and their lifestyles are diverse as well. Regardless of their differences, these four women, Kendall, Tanya, Mallory and Faye became fast friends and have remained so over the years.Wendy Wax captures the real-life struggles experienced by many aspiring writers. The Accidental Bestseller storyline revolves mostly around the life of Kendall Aims. While Kendall has enjoyed a fairly successful writing career, she is now struggling with a bad case of writer's block. And as if that isn’t enough to make any writer miserable, Kendall's marriage is sinking fast! And she fears her writing career is going down with the ship. I really enjoyed The Accidental bestseller. First and foremost, it is a story of women supporting women. And that in itself makes this a timely story of how a group of diverse women, each acting according to their own belief system can change the life of another woman. In the case of the Accidental Bestseller, I believe the actions of the four friends changed all their lives for the better. However, they each learned a hard lesson from the experience. Let’s face it, by its very definition, sacrifice is not easy.If you are curious of what Kendall, Tanya, Mallory and Faye actually did together. And if you want to know how it all turned out, I suggest you read The Accidental Bestseller by Wendy Wax.For Lots More Book Reviews Visit Laura Jay at: BookClubReporter.comVisit Laura Jay on TwitterTo read the full book review of The Accidental Best Seller: Click Here*Wishing for your own Podcast? USA Today bestselling author Wendy Wax is heralded for her contemporary women's fiction exploring friendship, loyalty, self-discovery and the seemingly insurmountable challenges life sometimes presents. Born in St. Petersburg, Florida, Wendy grew up on St. Pete Beach within spitting distance of the Gulf of Mexico. Appropriately enough, Wendy attended Sunshine Elementary School where recess and art class sometimes took place on the beach, and the highlight of every school year was the annual fish broil. Not surprisingly, some of her favorite Florida beaches were destined to become settings for her bestselling fiction, including her "Ten Beach Road" novels, TEN BEACH ROAD, OCEAN BEACH, THE HOUSE ON MERMAID POINT, SUNSHINE BEACH, ONE GOOD THING, and BEST BEACH EVER. Wendy's writing has been highly praised. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says she "writes with breezy wit and keen insight into family relations." Her books have been featured in national publications such as USA Today, Ladies Home Journal and Woman's World, and at online book sites such as On a Clear Day I Can Read Forever, Luxury Reading, Book Reporter, Night Owl Reviews and Fresh Fiction. Wendy loves to hear from her readers! You can reach her at wendy@authorwendywax.com. Despite their hopes for smooth sailing, the ladies of Ten Beach Road confront choppy seas in this novel in the bestselling series. Forced to rent out or lose their beloved Bella Flora after the loss of their renovation-turned-reality-TV show Do Over, Maddie, Nikki, Avery, Kyra, and Bitsy move into cottages at the Sunshine Hotel and Beach Club believing the worst is over. Only to discover just how uncertain their futures really are. Maddie struggles with the challenges of dating a rock star whose career has come roaring back to life while Nikki faces the daunting realities of mothering twins at forty-seven. Avery buries herself in a tiny home build in an attempt to dodge commitment issues, and Kyra battles to protect her son from the Hollywood world she once dreamed of joining. And Bitsy is about to find out whether the rewards of seeking revenge will outweigh the risks. Luckily, when the going gets tough, the ladies of Ten Beach Road know that their friendship--tried and tested--can chase away the darkest clouds and let the sun shine in... Authors on the Air host Pam Stack is delighted to welcome Wendy Wax to the studio. Wendy was one of Pam's first guests when she created Author on the Air in 2012. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says USA Today bestselling author Wendy Wax “writes with breezy wit and keen insight.” Her contemporary women’s fiction explores family, friendship and self-discovery and has been compared to that of Jennifer Weiner, Jane Green, and Mary Alice Monroe. My Ex-Best Friend’s Wedding, released May 14, 2019. Prized and stored away for safekeeping, the timeless ivory wedding dress, with its scooped neck and cleverly fitted bodice, sits gently folded in its box, whispering of Happily Ever Afters. To Kendra, Brianna, and Lauren it’s a reminder of what could have been, the promise of a fairy tale, and a friendship torn apart. But as Kendra knows firsthand: it wasn’t the dress’s fault. Once closer than sisters, Lauren and Bree have grown up and grown apart, allowing broken promises and unfulfilled dreams to destroy their friendship. A successful author, Lauren returns home to the Outer Banks, fiancé in tow, to claim the dress she never thought she’d wear. While Bree, a bookstore owner, grapples with the realities of life after you marry the handsome prince. As the former best friends wrestle with their uncertain futures, they are both certain of one thing: some betrayals can never be forgiven. Now on the eve of her daughter Lauren’s wedding, Kendra struggles with a secret she’s kept for far too long. And vows to make sure the dress will finally bring Lauren and Bree back together—knowing they'll need each other to survive the coming storm.
