Send us Fan MailIt's Therapy Thursday!Sex can be joyful, grounding, spiritual, and deeply connecting and it can also be wrapped in pressure, shame, secrecy, and survival. We go there with honesty, starting from everyday body image and self-talk, then opening up a bigger conversation about sexual wellness, boundaries, and what it means to choose intimacy on purpose. We break down abstinence vs celibacy in plain language, and we talk about why some people step back from sex for mental clarity, healing, or self-respect. From there, we explore sex as a “spiritual dance,” the kind of connection that gets better when you know your power, communicate clearly, and stop treating pleasure like something you have to earn. We also touch on tantric sex and mindful intimacy, including how slowing down can shift the whole experience from performance to presence. Then we get serious about consent and sexual shame. We talk about coercion, manipulation, and why “giving in” is not the same as a free yes. We also name how trauma, molestation, and rape can distort self-blame, especially when people feel pressured to stay quiet or when bystanders ignore what's happening. If you're supporting someone in an abusive situation, we share why judgment often backfires, why leaving can be dangerous or complicated, and why paying attention to early red flags matters. If this conversation helps you feel seen, share it with someone you trust, subscribe for more, and leave a review so more people can find Essential Mental Healing.

Send us Fan MailIT's Therapy Thursday! You ever catch yourself studying someone else's life like it's a map, then feeling behind when your path doesn't match theirs? We go straight at that pressure and tell the truth: you can learn from other people without trying to copy their journey. Mom and I start with a small moment that turns into a big reset, standing in the kitchen and realizing the present moment can be enough, even when life is loud. From there we pull lessons from everyday stories and the internet, including a creator who went viral with a goose named Ducktavious and a man whose terrifying, laced experience pushed him toward faith and a new direction. Both stories point to the same takeaway: what looks like “overnight success” or “sudden transformation” usually has a deeper backstory, and your healing journey will never be a carbon copy of someone else's. We talk mindset, discipline, resilience, and why trusting your gut matters more than chasing somebody's formula. We also get real about family, parenting, and boundaries. We share how feeling misunderstood can shape a child into an adult who over-explains, people-pleases, or fights to be seen, and how parenting changes when you lead with curiosity and ask for the why. If you've been navigating school stress, co-parenting pain, divorce recovery, or just trying to be a better parent and a better you, this conversation is for you.If this hit home, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs encouragement, and leave a review so more people can find Essential Mental Healing.Support the showHost Candace PatriceCo-host Janet Halevisit the website at https://www.essentialmotivation.com/Instagram instagram.com/essentialmotivationllcvisit Janet's website https://haleempowermentllc.com/To be a guest on our show email me at candacefleming@essentialmotivation.comIn the subject line put EMH Guest Suicide Prevention Lifeline 988Music by Lukrembo: https://soundcloud.com/lukremboProvided by Knowledge Base: https://bit.ly/2BdvqzN

Send us Fan MailThat moment when you realize you forgot to hit record turns out to be a gift, because it means we start raw and honest. My mom (Janet) and I talk through a real communication slip where stress turned into projection, and we show what repair looks like when you actually listen, apologize, and let the other person be heard. If you've ever felt afraid that one argument could break a relationship, you'll recognize the “inner child” energy underneath it and the relief that comes when the adult self steps in to protect connection. From there, we move into parenting with big feelings: what “defiance” can look like in kids, how emotional sensitivity gets misunderstood, and why comfort often needs to come before conversation. I share what changed everything with my daughter: she can tell me, “I'm crying, hold me,” and once she's regulated, we can talk. We also get practical about tone, triggers, time misunderstandings, and how to repeat the same boundary without escalating. We go wider into modern family life and mental health, including Roblox, internet safety for kids, and how to teach tools when you can't monitor every second. We also talk about healing and therapy language, including how “self-improvement” can turn into a weapon across generations, and why acceptance, recovery community, and belonging matter. We end with self-acceptance, body image, and the reminder that love doesn't disappear just because someone is upset. If this resonates, subscribe, share it with a parent or adult child who needs it, and leave a review so more people can find Essential Mental Healing.Support the showHost Candace PatriceCo-host Janet Halevisit the website at https://www.essentialmotivation.com/Instagram instagram.com/essentialmotivationllcvisit Janet's website https://haleempowermentllc.com/To be a guest on our show email me at candacefleming@essentialmotivation.comIn the subject line put EMH Guest Suicide Prevention Lifeline 988Music by Lukrembo: https://soundcloud.com/lukremboProvided by Knowledge Base: https://bit.ly/2BdvqzN

Send us Fan MailIt's Therapy Thursday!!Grief doesn't always sound like crying. Sometimes it sounds like family showing up, a party continuing, and a teenager feeling joy while the adults carry the weight. Janet and I start with birthdays and end up in the tender places: losing her mother, what it meant to shield the kids from adult grief, and how certain memories stay fresh even 20-plus years later. We also talk about my dad, the difference between sudden loss and having time to prepare, and the keepsakes that quietly hold love together, from a t-shirt to a necklace to a ring. Then we pivot hard into the present. Technology is moving at a pace that can make anyone feel behind, and AI is changing how we build, work, and create. We get real about the speed of innovation, why you cannot learn every tool, and how to choose a few systems that genuinely help. We also unpack the everyday money side of modern tech: phone upgrades, hidden “contracts” inside device payments, streaming costs climbing, and the trade-offs behind bundling services. If you care about mental health, boundaries, and staying grounded, this part hits. Finally, we go where we always go: the messy human stuff. Influence can be used for harm or for healing, and we wrestle with what it means to persuade without becoming manipulative. That conversation turns into our ongoing mother-daughter debate about fence sitting versus picking a side, loyalty, and why listening is the real love language when emotions run high. Send us Fan Mailit's Therapy Thursday!A locked door at an apartment gym shouldn't turn into a whole emotional spiral but it can, fast. When a staff member snaps “can you not knock,” Candace feels that familiar heat: the need to be right, the need to be justified, the need for someone to admit they were wrong. Sitting with her mom, Janet Hale, she tells the story honestly, including the messy part where calm communication is the goal but anger is what shows up first. We zoom out from that moment and get into the bigger theme: forgiveness before the offense. Not as pretending something didn't happen, and not as letting people walk over you, but as a way to stop carrying the fight in your body and your day. Janet shares what maturity has taught her about picking battles, while Candace connects the dots between “my opinion is a direction,” communication that prioritizes understanding, and the question that keeps cutting through the noise: is the battle worth your peace? The conversation also hits parenting stress and school conflict, where the stakes feel too high to stay quiet. Candace talks about wanting clear policies, consistent rules, and real accountability when it comes to her daughter. Along the way we touch on whole foods vs processed vegan options, lifelong learning, spiritual curiosity, and how tension can live in the body until you choose to release it.If you've ever replayed a conversation in your head just to prove you were right, this one is for you. Send a textWhat if the real reason change doesn't stick is because we're building on a shaky inner foundation? We sit down with Blaise, a guide who helps growth‑oriented seekers turn spiritual insight into embodied change, to map a path from self-connection to stronger relationships and practical follow-through. His story is raw and hopeful: early derailments, a wake-up into presence, and the steady work of aligning words, energy, and action so people can actually trust us.Together we trace a developmental blueprint for healing that starts at the ground level: safety and rest through co-regulation, the skill of naming needs, the emergence of will and boundaries, and the heart's capacity to care for self and others. If you missed a “floor,” adult life exposes the gap—conflict in intimacy, people-pleasing, or the sense of being left out of your own care. Blaise shows how to renovate without shame. Feelings aren't commands, but they are truthful data; when we let energy move, we stop fighting ourselves and can include both facts and feelings in the moment. We also dig into how real teaching begins with listening. In Blaise's groups, everyone practices presence—not just the facilitator. Structure matters so safety scales, and permission becomes embodied when anger or grief is met with respect instead of punishment. He nods to formative influences—Adyashanti's clarity in meditation and Thomas Hübl's relational attunement—while offering accessible ways to start: free live meditations, principle-centered practices, and simple pauses like “Why am I talking?” for more honest conversations.Underneath it all is a grounded optimism. Access to healing resources is expanding, and more people are choosing a light-based mindset that acknowledges pain without being defined by it. If you've felt “aware” but stuck, this conversation offers a map and the encouragement to take your next step. Subscribe, share this with a friend who's doing the work, and leave a review telling us which part you'll practice this week.Blaise helps growth-oriented seekers turn spiritual insight into embodied change and healthier relationships. Send a textIt's Therapy Thursday!A clear rearview and an open trunk spark a bigger revelation: when life is wide open, you can finally see what's real. We ride that moment into a heart-to-heart about clarity—the kind that feels like greener grass and easy breath, and the kind that strips away the mask and demands truth. Across five seasons, our mother–daughter duo traces how confidence grows, how faith matures, and how listening becomes a superpower. We unpack the messy, beautiful evolution of our bond, the gifts our guests left with us, and the quiet courage it takes to speak plainly about love, loyalty, and belonging. We revisit four anchors that hit hard: live now, fall in love, choose friends wisely, fight. They're not platitudes; they're practical. Living now shows up in small choices and clean boundaries. Falling in love includes craft, calling, and community. Choosing friends is about survival and tenderness. Fighting is giving your best in your own way—and making peace with the result. Along the way, we explore vegan living as a surprising path to mental clarity, the strange joy of washing dishes with only hot water, and why cleaning the hidden “junk drawers” matters more than polishing the counter. We also flip the script on tolerance. Who gets to say who is tolerating whom, and why does power decide the story? By reframing tolerance as mutual dignity, we make space for different beliefs without shrinking anyone's humanity. If you're craving real talk about aging with pride, organizing the inner life, learning to listen, and choosing community on purpose, you'll feel at home here. Send a textIt's Therapy ThursdayEver feel like you're always “on,” even when nothing is actually wrong? We sit down with former police officer turned intuitive life coach and nervous system specialist Valerie Holden to explore how constant yellow-zone living steals sleep, fuels anxiety, and quietly taxes the body. Valerie shares why calm is a skill, not a mood, and how your presence can de-escalate a room before a single word is said.We dig into the biology behind stress—how adrenaline moves fast but cortisol lingers—and why stacking worries keeps your mind racing long after the meeting or email is over. Valerie lays out micro-practices that fit real life: emotional freedom tapping, simple figure eights around the eyes, and three quiet minutes behind a closed door. She also reframes productivity through intuition and flow. Aim for the outcome, not the exact route, and let your best channel—feeling, images, inner voice, or knowing—guide the next step. The result isn't passivity; it's smarter sequencing that feels lighter and gets more done. The conversation moves from validation and self-trust to compassionate accountability. Sometimes we need perspective; sometimes we need a friend to call our bluff on procrastination. We talk about modern pressure to “keep up,” including AI. Valerie uses tools like ChatGPT to save hours, while reminding us to choose what we actually want, not what the feed celebrates. For those ready for support, she outlines a 90-day framework that blends education, practice, and personalization, with clear boundaries and referrals when medical or therapeutic care is needed. If your body has been carrying your life on fumes, this is a humane reset. You don't need to escape your life to feel better. You need a nervous system that can carry the life you've built. Send us a textIt's Therapy Thursday!!What if the most powerful thing you did this year was stop trying to be “soft enough” and started speaking with clean, direct honesty? That's the energy we bring to a wide-ranging conversation with Lani Gonzales—former attorney turned hypnotherapist—on women's intuition, subconscious healing, and boundaries that actually hold.We trace Lani's journey from high-achiever to embodied guide, and unpack a big mental health insight: talk therapy helps us name and cope, while hypnotherapy can locate root causes and rewrite the story beneath the surface. Lani breaks down the difference between meditation's awareness and hypnosis's agenda, and explains why not every nervous system needs the same approach. You'll hear why some clients need activation before calm, how self-hypnosis works in daily life, and what changed after decades of cyclical suicidal ideation. We also confront the myth that directness is “masculine.” Confidence is an embodied trait. Through archetypes—queen, warrior, sage, mystic—Lani invites women to claim a fuller range of power, including the season where leadership and wisdom become our primary contribution. Along the way, we talk sisterhood, co-regulation, and why being “triggering” can mean you're modeling what's possible.Practical takeaways land hard and kind: don't rush forgiveness; anger is a teacher of injustice. Use two simple phrases to stop mental gymnastics and invite repair: “That didn't sit well with me” and “Help me understand.” If a line is crossed again, you don't owe a speech—let your exit be the consequence. Emotional maturity doesn't mean feeling less; it means noticing faster and choosing your response with integrity.Lani shares how she works in focused three-session packages with integration homework, plus upcoming retreats and women's groups designed to build resilience, purpose, and conscious business. If you're craving clarity, community, and tools that reach deeper than willpower, this one meets you where you are—and walks with you to where you're going. If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs these tools, and leave a review so more women can find this conversation.Lani Gonzales is a clinical hypnotherapist, former attorney, author, and subconscious performance expert who helps high-achieving women and leaders rewire limiting beliefs, regulate their nervous systems, and live more aligned, fulfilled lives. Send us a textTherapy ThursdayWhat if bravery looked less like a roar and more like a 10-minute habit you actually keep? We sit down with author and educator Renee Zukin to explore radical bravery as a daily practice, not a performance. From quarterly life planning to the tiny wins that keep momentum alive, we unpack how consistency, compassion, and honest conversations reshape mental health in the real world.Renee shares her path through OCD, intrusive thoughts, and panic—how a diagnosis brought clarity, how exposure and cognitive tools changed her thinking, and why regression during COVID wasn't a failure but an invitation to use hard-won skills again. Her story reframes courage on a sliding scale: some days it's getting out of bed or eating the meal in front of you; other days it's flying after years on the ground. We also talk about the hidden cost of faking confidence at work, and why simple resets—standing in a meeting, a 30-second breath, a quick walk—can protect your nervous system and prevent burnout. The heart of the episode is truth-telling with care. We model tough mother-daughter conversations that stay tender, not damaging, and show how writing or reflection can create clarity before you speak. Add in practical tools like the Finch app for micro-habits, and a quarter-by-quarter approach that turns big visions into small steps, and you've got a roadmap for growth that honors real life. Everyone is brave about something. Name yours, take the next tiny step, and keep going. If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs courage today, and leave a quick review so more listeners can find these conversations.Renee Zukin is an author, educator, coach, andmental health advocate doing the inner work to seeouter change. Send us a textA homemade snickerdoodle led to a soul reading, and from there we dove into the kind of healing most of us crave but rarely get: simple, whole, humane. With Julie as our guide, we explore what happens when you stop treating symptoms in isolation and start aligning energy, boundaries, and daily rhythms so your body can finally exhale. She calls herself a healing facilitator for a reason—this isn't about fixing you; it's about clearing the noise so your own system can do what it's built to do.We unpack why autoimmune issues so often track back to the gut, why the gut tracks back to relationships and safety, and how chronic stress erodes the microbiome and the immune system's judgment. Julie lays out a practical, repeatable process: bring the nervous system into parasympathetic “rest and digest,” address the seven chakras and major organs and glands, and pair energetic balance with concrete choices like better sleep, nutrition, nature, and real boundaries. Case studies—from lab results normalizing to a physician outliving a grim prognosis—highlight the power of agency, perspective, and steady practice over panic. What makes this conversation different is how accessible it feels. We translate energy work for the skeptical, map emotions to body systems, and offer a clear path from self-care shoulds to unapologetic self-love. We talk about letting go with kindness, parenting without control, and the surprising ripple of authentic expression—how even a bright coat on a gray day can lift a room. If the medical system has ever made you feel like pieces on separate clipboards, this is your invitation to be whole again. If this resonated, share it with someone who needs a gentler path to healing. Subscribe for more grounded conversations on mental health, wholeness, and everyday tools that help you feel like yourself. And tell us: what's one small shift you'll make today to bring your body back into alignment?Julie Lieberknecht, CHt, is a healing facilitator who brings it all together in her own unique way. For 26 years, she has been creating the combo of treating with Esoteric Healing, Therapy, and Coaching, to help her clients understand their livee, spiritually, and shift into the parasympathetic nervous system so the body can come into wellness. Esoteric Healing is a science - specific energy points in the energy field that are focused on to bring balance, and with that can come restoration from physical disease, anxiety, “stuckness” in life, intense spiritual dark nights, etc. This treatment can take place via distance after a phone call with Julie. As another year draws to a close, it's time to pause, look back, and take stock. As has become something of a tradition, this article shares with you my 2025 gameplay experience, some stats about the blog, my event attendance, a summary of the blog's finances and a brief look ahead to 2026. It's as much for my own record as it is for anyone who wants to know more about what 2025 has been like for me and the blog. Happy holidays! On the fifty- fourth episode of ATFT, film historian/ author/ lecturer Max Alvarez is back to join me in analyzing Billy Wilder's 1960 comedy- drama masterpiece, The Apartment! This episode is spoiler- filled. The Apartment has been described by many as one of the greatest of all time, film- wise, and is regarded as the peak of Billy Wilder who had been making a string of masterpieces starting with Double Indemnity (1944), which was the focus of the previous episode. The Apartment revolves around C.C. Baxter (Jack Lemmon), a people- pleasing insurance agent, who is taken advantage of by his bosses most nights after work as they occupy his apartment to spend time with their mistresses. All the while, Baxter has a crush on the “best elevator girl in the building” Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine) whose mind is elsewhere, specifically on her married ex, and C.C.'s big boss, Jeff D. Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray). When Sheldrake begins to get in on the action to use Baxter's apartment to be with Fran, the film takes a dramatic turn on the night before Christmas. The Apartment went on to win five out of the ten Oscar categories, including Best Picture. This is one of my favorite films and it has become a tradition of mine to watch the film on Christmas night, after Fanny and Alexander. Max will be leading a Q&A after a screening of Robert Wise's 1958 noir film Odds Against Tomorrow at New Plaza Cinema in NYC on Sunday, December 21 at 12:15 pm where he'll be joined by Dan Cahill and, a special guest, Harry Belefonte's widow Pamela will be in attendance. Get your tickets now by clicking here! You can also watch previous Talk Back lectures led by Max, including one on The Apartment, on that same website or on the New Plaza Cinema YouTube channel. Max also gives the occasional online lecture at the Smithsonian Institute. His most recent lecture was focused on Burt Lancaster but click here to learn of Max's upcoming lectures. Before we closed out the episode, Max shared an update on his directorial feature film debut Noirfilm which is expected to be in post- production this Spring! This is Max's third appearance on ATFT! His most recent appearance was last year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Chinatown with an analytical discussion, but my interview with Max was actually the first wide- released episode of the show! I had been wanting to record another episode with Max this year and I actually asked him to join a prior analytical episode but I was surprised to learn he wasn't a big fan of the film. With all the technical difficulties this year, this episode came together pretty quickly but I'm thrilled with the result because I believe this is one of the best episodes of the year. I'm thrilled to end another year of All the Film Things by discussing this film I hold so dear with Max. This episode was recorded on December 4, 2025. In this episode, Max and I talk about how The Apartment anticipates the New Hollywood era, the tightrope Wilder walks between comedy and drama, and the significance of setting the film around the holiday season. While Max recounts his experience attending a screening of the film with Billy Wilder, Fred MacMurray, and I.A.L Diamond in attendance, I take any chance I get to boast about Shirley MacLaine's tremendous performance as Fran Kubelik. Send us a textIt's Therapy Thursday!!What if balance isn't a perfect calendar but a kinder relationship with time? We open up about the tug-of-war between packed days and the deep need to slow down, trading guilt for acceptance and urgency for presence. From missed movie showtimes and overflowing to-do lists to the tender relief of an unhurried conversation, we map the messy terrain where real life happens.Janet shares how aging has become an invitation to soften: wanting less, enjoying what lasts, and noticing the goodness in what's already working. We talk about the house that holds decades of stories, the neighbor who quietly watches out for safety, and the surprising ways grief keeps teaching us after the loss of loved ones. Those memories don't fade; they change form, sometimes even showing up in the calm of a pet or the habit of an open curtain that lets the day feel alive.Candace names the emotional spikes that come with moving fast and wanting structure, and we get honest about the kind of support big thoughts require. Not every friend can hold the heaviest ideas, and that's okay. We outline what a practical safety plan can look like, why 988 remains a vital resource, and how to find a therapist whose mind is open enough to meet complexity with care. Along the way, we reframe rest as a daily practice—short pauses, seasonal breaks, and small choices that keep the plates from tipping. If you've ever felt behind on your own life, this conversation offers a gentler script. Come for the real talk about time, stay for the quiet tools: noticing what matters, asking for help, and letting yourself move at a human pace. If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs a breath, and leave a review to help others find our community.Support the showHost Candace PatriceCo-host Janet Halevisit the website at https://www.essentialmotivation.com/visit the store at https://shopessentialmotivation.com/Instagram instagram.com/essentialmotivationllc visit Janet's website https://haleempowermentllc.com/To be a guest on our show email me at candacefleming@essentialmotivation.comIn the subject line put EMH Guest Suicide Prevention Lifeline 988Music by Lukrembo: https://soundcloud.com/lukremboProvided by Knowledge Base: https://bit.ly/2BdvqzN
Send us a textIt's therapy Thursday!!!A weekend blowup turned into a breakthrough. We start with a raw mother–daughter moment and move straight into a wide-open conversation with the Josephs, a young married couple whose story blends faith, attraction, vision, and a hard pivot from “negative broke” to purpose-driven building. Their last name, Joseph—“increase”—frames everything: why vision alignment matters more than chemistry, how “equally yoked” looks in real life, and why wisdom is the engine of sustainable wealth, not just a nice idea.We sit with the real stuff: lust and honesty, backsliding and growth, repossessions and second chances, and the kind of grief that changes your voice. Janet shares lessons from decades of marriage and the quiet power of gratitude as spiritual medicine for anxiety and depression. Candace connects those insights to mental health and agency, pointing to the 988 Lifeline and a simple truth: testimony breaks shame. The energy shifts when the Josephs unpack Dream Out Loud and the spark that became Wealth Is Wisdom. Scripture meets strategy as they translate purpose into practical steps—credit literacy, clarifying offers, finding your ideal client, copy that converts, and launch plans that move ideas into income. This is not a prosperity pitch. It's a blueprint for abundance across domains—money, relationships, health, and mission—built on aligned values and consistent action. If you've ever felt stuck between calling and bills, or wondered why church talks tithes without teaching wealth, this conversation offers language, tools, and courage to move. We close with details on the Detroit conference, panels, breakouts, and an affordable AI-assisted product builder designed to help you ship value now.If this resonates, follow along, share with someone who needs hope, and leave a review so others can find these conversations. Board games are often seen as a way to bring people together. They're a social activity, even for solo gamers. When we sit down to play, we fall into familiar rhythms of turns, actions and mechanisms. We don't even need to share the same language. Playing board games is a time when gestures, shared goals, and the actions within the magic circle of the game itself act as a way for us to communicate. Board games themselves are like a shared language, where friendly rivalry, cooperative play and everything else sometimes conveys more than words ever can.Read the full article here: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2025/11/25/games-as-lingua-franca-how-board-games-can-overcome-language-barriers-topic-discussion/Useful LinksPandemic review: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2020/01/18/pandemic-saturday-review/Tapestry review: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2019/11/09/tapestry-saturday-review/Ofrenda review: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2025/05/10/ofrenda-saturday-review/MusicIntro Music: Bomber (Sting) by Riot (https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/)Over Oceans by Alex-Productions | https://onsound.eu/Music promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comCreative Commons / Attribution 3.0 Unported License (CC BY 3.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/deed.en_USEndless by Moavii | https://www.youtube.com/@MoaviiMusicFree To Use | https://freetouse.com/musicMusic promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comSurvival Mode by Unheard | https://freetouse.com/music/unheardFree To Use | https://freetouse.com/musicMusic promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comTeapot by Lukrembo | https://soundcloud.com/lukremboFree To Use | https://freetouse.com/musicMusic promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comSupportIf you want to support this podcast financially, please check out the links below:Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/TabletopGamesBlogPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/tabletopgamesblogWebsite: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/support/(Photo by Stefan on Unsplash)
Send us a textIt's Therapy Thursday!!The air still hums from a room that felt brave enough for everyone. We unpack what happened at our women's conference where a Muslim practitioner, a Christian voice, and someone who practices magic shared a stage without defensiveness—and why safety, not sameness, made the healing real. The stories that poured out, the tissues that ran thin, and the look on faces walking out lighter reminded us: when people feel held, they release what they no longer need. From that high-frequency moment, we trace the everyday threads that carry healing forward. Snow the next morning felt like a season turning, and two fearless kittens named Marco and Polo taught us how to enter change with curiosity instead of fear. We talk about service that restores dignity—hotel rooms for unhoused families, turkey giveaways—and how helping becomes a place to practice our humanity. We also wrestle with bringing kids into service: intention, consent, and the heart posture that keeps respect at the center.Parenting and reparenting meet in real time as many of us teach emotional skills we never received while rebuilding our own. We talk boundaries that protect home, the risk of over-giving, and the relief that comes with aging into acceptance over performance. Then we zoom out to mental health and the power of labels, revisiting the Rosenhan study to ask for nuance in diagnosis without dismissing real care. The practical medicine we keep returning to is gratitude: one line in a journal, one quiet thank you, one mindful breath that anchors the day.Come for the conference recap; stay for the honest look at community, service, parenting, and the small daily practices that make healing stick. If the episode resonates, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs encouragement, and leave a review to help others find this space. Send us a textIt's Therapy Thursday and Season 5 begins!Season five opens with honesty, tears, and a surprising kind of joy. We step straight into the heart of grief and come out with tools you can use: how to honor good memories after a painful divorce, how to receive support you couldn't accept years ago, and how stillness can surface the truths that keep you stuck. You'll hear a mother reflect on the loss of her son and what changed when she stopped managing pain and let herself feel it. Together, we map the shift from anger to acceptance and the freedom of letting two truths stand side by side.We also explore the idea of “faith in the fire.” Whether your language is God, Spirit, or simple presence, the fire can be the safest place to stand still and grow. We share practical ways to sit in the heat—breathing, journaling, community witness—so fear loosens its grip and meaning emerges. That same openness shapes our approach to healing at scale: a live, multi-generational conference that weaves spoken word, music, dance, guided meditation, journaling, skin care as self-respect, and trauma-release movement. The arts aren't decoration; they are proven ways to regulate the nervous system and unlock what words alone can't reach.Parents and educators will find plenty here too. We challenge the myth that quiet equals learning and offer simple shifts for kids who think better in motion or speak answers before they write them. With stories of confidence-building, one-on-one support, and learning through creativity, we make a case for classrooms—and homes—that honor different brains. And threaded through everything is gratitude: the daily choice that slows time, deepens connection, and makes space for legacy without clinging to it.If this conversation moves you, follow along for more stories, practical tools, and guest insights this season. Send us a textIt's Therapy Thursday and Season 4's wrap! What if conditions like ADHD, autism, and OCD weren't permanent disabilities but rather brain imbalances that could be corrected? Dr. Robert Melillo, a pioneering functional neurologist with over 30 years of clinical experience and author of eight bestselling books including "Disconnected Kids," joins us to completely reshape how we understand developmental disorders.Dr. Melillo's groundbreaking approach starts with a fundamental insight: most neurodevelopmental conditions reflect an imbalance between brain hemispheres rather than damaged or defective brains. He explains that the human brain develops primarily outside the womb, with right-brain development dominating the first three years of life. This critical period builds emotional intelligence, attachment capabilities, and self-regulation - foundations that can be disrupted by premature left-brain stimulation from excessive technology exposure. The conversation takes a particularly fascinating turn when Dr. Melillo discusses the gifts often associated with these conditions. "Most people that end up with some developmental neurological issue are actually gifted with an area of their brain," he explains. Rather than dulling these talents with medication that merely manages symptoms, his comprehensive Melillo Method aims to balance the brain through targeted physical exercises, cognitive training, nutritional support, and dietary modifications.Parents will find particular value in Dr. Melillo's insights about the brain-gut connection, explaining how brain immaturity affects digestion and immune function, potentially leading to food sensitivities and inflammation. He also addresses how his approach differs from conventional medication-based treatments, noting that most patients begin seeing significant improvements within just weeks of starting treatment.Whether you're a parent seeking answers, a teacher working with neurodiverse students, or someone personally affected by these conditions, this episode offers hope beyond symptom management – a pathway to true neurological balance that preserves unique gifts while reducing limitations. Send us a textIt's Therapy ThursdayAuthenticity begins in the mirror, but what happens when the reflection others see doesn't match your self-image? In this deeply reflective conversation, I'm joined by my mother to untangle the complex web of perception, identity, and the courage to be truly seen.We start by examining those uncomfortable moments when we hide parts of ourselves that feel too vulnerable, only to discover these very traits are plainly visible to everyone around us. My mother shares wisdom about doing our best each day, whatever that means in the moment, while I confess my tendency to overthink how I'm perceived by others. The discussion shifts to social media's role in creating artificial hierarchies based on follower counts and polished presentations. We talk candidly about how easy it is to look at someone's professional website or content and assume their life is perfectly together – and how we've both been guilty of making these assumptions about others while knowing the complexities behind our own public personas. One of the most powerful segments explores our community service work, specifically community baby showers we've organized. We discuss the importance of maintaining people's dignity through meaningful giving rather than performative charity. My mother shares heart-wrenching observations from her years working with vulnerable populations, highlighting how even well-intentioned help can feel humiliating when not approached with genuine respect. What emerges is a powerful conversation about staying rooted in purpose over popularity, focusing on meaningful connection rather than validation, and the courage to show up authentically despite the risk of judgment. We explore how family relationships shape our self-perception, with touching reflections on intergenerational wisdom from my great-grandmother to my own daughter. If you've ever felt the tension between your authentic self and how others perceive you, this conversation offers compassionate insight and practical wisdom for bridging that gap. Listen now to discover how aligning your internal compass with your external presentation might be the most powerful form of healing available.Support the showHost Candace FlemingCo-host Janet Halevisit the website at https://www.essentialmotivation.com/visit the store at https://shopessentialmotivation.com/Instagram instagram.com/essentialmotivationllc visit Janet's website https://haleempowermentllc.com/To be a guest on our show email me at candacefleming@essentialmotivation.comIn the subject line put EMH Guest Suicide Prevention Lifeline 988Music by Lukrembo: https://soundcloud.com/lukremboProvided by Knowledge Base: https://bit.ly/2BdvqzN
