+++ STORIES SELL +++ It's amazing how we are more apt to remember stories than we do facts. I'm able to remember a place, person, or event more if I have an associated story attached. However, if you were to tell me facts and expect me to remember as I do stories, forget it. It ain't happening. This is why someone coined this phrase: Facts tell. Stories sell. Oh, how true this is. Why is it then that leaders don't use more stories in communicating with their people? I believe one of the reasons is vulnerability. It does take some vulnerability to tell stories especially those that are more personal in nature. In today's episode of The Kingsley Grant Show, you'll hear our guest - Jared Buckley - tell a very moving story of his daughter and how it shifted his leadership mindset. He also helps us understand how to be more vulnerable and how to do so even under stress. Take a listen. +++++++++++++ Who is JARED BUCKLEY? Jared Buckley is a dynamic coach/consultant and a leading expert on developing the next generation of leaders within the workforce. His work entails coaching leaders and executives for high-performance behaviors, training for team performance, and keynoting on topics such as emotional intelligence, performance, and stress. Jared has written about millennials, emotional intelligence, and future leadership for such publications as Huffington Post, Lifehack, Addicted2Success. And as a consultant and coach, Jared has worked with such organizations as the Fiesta Bowl, Stantec, Marriott, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue, University of Phoenix Stadium, Pathways, and more. While Jared does love speaking, coaching, and training, he loves his wife and five kids more. Jared and I begin this discussion with that thought, that question, in mind. In the United States, we are about a month out since millions of citizens cast their votes in the presidential election, a contest between incumbent President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden. Biden, having now decisively won in both the popular vote and Electoral College, presently awaits to be inaugurated President in January. While this may be objectively true, President Trump has refused to concede and admit defeat, instead doubling down and reinforcing claims that the electoral process was somehow “fraudulent” and “illegitimate.” Anyone who has paid attention to Trump and his allies over the last few years, and especially the last several months, should understand what is happening and the real danger posed here. While Jared concludes that under current conditions an electoral coup is unlikely, the mere fact that it is being attempted at all, with so many deeply embedded establishment politicians unopposed to it, should raise our concern. Trump may not succeed in overturning the election, but what comes next from him and his fascistic base is of deep consequence. Where do investment experts come from? Do they hatch from Ivy League MBA programs? Or is it possible to have one of the most gifted investment thinkers emerge from rural America? Jared Kizer grew up on a farm in Tennessee in a small town of 5,000 people. Growing up an avid baseball player, finance was never on his radar. A series of injuries led Jared to an interest in physical therapy, and for a time it looked like that would be how he’d spend his career. Fresh out of physical therapy school and married to a lovely dietician, Jared realized that neither he or his wife had the financial know-how to guide their businesses. Jared went to the local bookstore in search of resources. There, in the quiet aisles of Barnes and Noble, Jared came upon “The Only Guide to a Winning Investment Strategy You’ll Ever Need”, written by the person who would become his future colleague at Buckingham Strategic Wealth, Larry Swedroe. On a whim, Jared reached out to Larry, and eventually their correspondence led to a job interview. While Jared lacked experience, he proved to be a natural fit in the finance world. Several years into his work at Buckingham, Jared received national acclaim for an article he co-authored, entitled, “The Death of Diversification Has Been Greatly Exaggerated.” Since then, Jared’s analyses have been published multiple times, including a book he co-authored with Larry Swedroe himself. Now a CFA and CIO of Buckingham, Jared helps people make sense of this often-complicated world on a daily basis. He even maintains a blog devoted to finance education at MultifactorWorld.com. Here, he shares his story, strategy and insights for tackling successful investing head-on.   Key Topics Introducing Jared. [00:42] Jared’s background and what led to his interest in finance. In this video I speak with Jared Hillam about the best career opportunities in big data analytics.  This is a broad field that includes many sub-disciplines.  In this interview we focus on careers helping companies to implement data storage solutions and organize their data so that it provides actionable intelligence for decision makers. Jared talks about how expertise in this career field can be extremely lucrative.  In Jared's case, he was introduced to big data analytics during a project he was working on in college.  His interest in the field grew.  As Jared become more interested he worked in a number of different roles in the field until he found himself in his current role, as a Vice President at Inticity.  Intricity is a big data consulting firm that provides consulting and implementation to large companies.  Jared's firm helps these companies figure out how they are going to organize and store their data.  While Jared focuses on entry level positions in the field, he touches

Welcome back to the Relatively Speaking Podcast. A podcast designed to insert the most insightful and entertaining sounds into your ears via the sultry noises coming out of the orifice of Jared Mintz. Some other guy co-hosts the podcast as well.  It is a slow news cycle in sports. That is unless you love Major League Baseball. While Jared and Joseph love the slapstick, it isn't exactly in their wheelhouse. The show begins as all shows should, as the guys immediately go off the rails. Joseph has finally begun to watch The Leftovers. This leads the dastardly duo into a 10 minute discussion about television show spoilers, what good shows are out there, and if either of them will ever begin to consume Game of Thrones. Also, spoiler alert, Joseph tells a story about Sons of Anarchy being spoiled for him. In the process, he spoils the show for everyone else unintentionally.  Then it is off to actual sports. Darren Daulton died. Joseph tells a quick story about being convinced Tom Berenger's character in Major League being based off Dutch while not caring if the movie happened before 1993 or not. The Miami Dolphins signed Jay Cutler. The guys giggle at the idea of giving an aged, coming off injury Cutler $10 million as opposed to just letting Matt Moore stink. Seriously... the Dolphins are going to stink no matter what, right? This edition of the show ends with Absurd Questions. Would you rather fight a clown or a mime with brass knuckles? There was another question, but this Internet Scribbler always forgets Jared's question. You can follow Jared on Twitter @JMintzHoops. Joseph is over yonder @JosephNardone.

It is Friday. Not only does that mean you are about to get absurdly sloshed in a matter of a few hours, but you get to consume the Relatively Speaking Podcast in all its natural glory. This episode's show starts with some sadness. Mike and Mike, according to reports, are breaking up. It was a mutual thing. No hard feelings here. With an eye on the future, Jared and Joseph discuss who are realistic choices to fill the void from the 6-10 slot in the mornings. Because they can't help themselves even if they wanted to, the hosts also brought up a few people they would prefer to hear while wiping crust from their eyeballs. Derrick Rose things happened. Jared is a New York Knicks fan. So, yeah... of course we talked about that. Also, what in the heck is a Ron Baker? NFL Playoffs were discussed -- kind of. While Jared attempted to bring up the topic in earnest, Joseph spent the majority of the time yelling over him with college basketball takes. The Relatively Speaking Podcast Ask Me Anything returned, too. Five really good questions this week from four different members of the human species. Very #OnBrand types of questions of the podcast as well. You will have to listen to hear what happened, but do know that one of the questions spurned what was quite possibly one of the rare "fictional trade scenarios" that actually made sense for both teams and is somewhat realistic. PSA: Don't text and drink baking soda.
