Join us while we talk about board games, food, and what Jared has backed on Kickstarter recently.
Last time we were under the sea, this time we're on top of it. Join us as we mosey down the river, explore ancient China, and even back stab our friends in boat games! T-Pain's full name is Tylenol Painrelief.
Aquaphobia sufferers skip this one, because we're going deep under the ocean for a handful of underwater exploration style games. At least one of the games takes place at the surface of the ocean, so let's just apologize for that right away. How deep can you dive before the pressure gets to great?
Manage your resources carefully or your city will go bankrupt, but be careful, if you invest too heavily in industry, the levels of pollution will choke out the growth potential of not only your residential areas, but your residents as well. Hi, I'm Maxis co-founder Will Wright, and welcome to my TED Talk about Spore. We're checking out a handful of city building games in this one.
We're diving into the fascinating world of making your own craft beers at home in these beer brewing games! Not a single one of us at Eat Chit & Dice even enjoys beer (Jeremy says he does but I've never seen him drink any), but we still want to promote safe drinking habits!
After the thrilling cliff-hanger of our mid-season break, listen to this episode to find out which of your favorite characters survived! We're talking art games, specifically just painting because there are too many to cover all kinds of art at once! Expect follow up episodes on sculptures and textiles eventually.
Thank you for subscribing to animal facts. To stop animal facts text STOP to 2359853098234532. We're checking out a few games where you play as an animal, or group of animals! From pooping to find your babies, to roaring to attract a mate, to even flying through the air to collect the chaos emeralds while battling a large blue hedgehog, animals do lots of weird things!
We tried to do an experiment with the editing that ended up not working out, but you never know until you try. This one is about trees, flowers, gardening... you know, plant stuff. There's enough of these that we can come back to it again in the future!
Mechs, frames, megazords, whatever you want to call them, giant robots are awesome. Have you watched the robot anime GaoGaiGar? If you're at all in to giant robots, you should probably watch that! Also, if you don't want the Japanese version of the 1993 Power Rangers series spoiled, skip this one!
The hot new trend, roll and writes! Or are they roll and wrongs? We're looking at just a very small selection of games in the booming genre!
We're back! Jondi's legs have regrown, so we're talking about the birds and the bees, but not like THAT. Go ask your parents about that one. Feathers and stingers, dice and... well, more dice! OH, NO! NOT THE BEES! NOT THE BEES! AAAAAHHHHH!
We talk about her all the time, but Kat is with us for this one! We look back on Gencon 2019 and talk about some of the things you may not know about the convention, including the First Exposure Playtest Hall, Gencon Board Game Library, and more!
Execute Order 66! Hello there! And other /r/prequelmemes! We're discussing some of our top picks for GenCon 2019 in this one. How many of these games will we bring home? We're contractually obligated to let you know in the next episode!
Dangerously cheesy. We're wrapping up the mini-series on public servant themes. This one is the hottest one yet. A little shorter than usual, but we'll make it up to you soon.
Do you know how many medical rescue games there are? There's a bunch of them, and there are more coming. Worker placement, card drafting, heart attacks, and more. Another weird theme to continue our public servant series.
To kick off our series of public servant themed episodes, we're looking at police games, or at least sorta! I think many people played cops and robbers as kids, so it's not surprising to me to see that theme in board games. There are a lot of these and we only had time to pick a few, but this is a topic we will for sure revisit in the future.
Understand me son, I'm the slickest they is, I'm the quickest they is, did I say I'm the slickest they is? We're looking at a few frontier exploration, rootin' tootin' wild west games. Uhn, Big Will, Dru Hill, uhn, wiki wiki. Blame Jondi for all of this because she started singing the song.
One of Jared's favorite events, Geekway to the West, was last week. We played some games. Now let's talk about those games. There's way too many things in this episode.
We went to Nashville Tabletop Day and played some games! I don't have anything funny to say about this episode, but that doesn't mean it's not worth listening to.
We came up with around a dozen puns for the name of this episode (including a great Han Solo joke) but whatever we call it, we're talking about solo games. We've not played many solo games before this episode so it was an interesting experiment.
Dinosaurs may be extinct, but board games featuring them are as alive as ever. We took a huge list and dropped a K-T boundary inducing hunk of rock on the list to see which ones were the best. I'm also really sorry about those jokes.
Jondi went out west on the Oregon Trail so we're talking about games that you can play when you only have your phone, just like the settlers did in the 1800s! Are app versions of board games the future, or just a weird gimmick? Probably a little of both.
We claim that this podcast is about board games and sometimes food, but why not both at the same time? Will we ever fix the echo by finishing the walls in the studio? Find out on the next episode of Dragon Ball Z.
We're looking at some great (and not-so-great) 2 player games just in time for Valentine's Day! We're trying a BUNCH of new stuff so sorry if some of it doesn't work. New studio computer, new audio settings, new format! What a rush!
Sometimes you just can't bring Gloomhaven with you on an airplane. But that's okay, there are other games you can take with you. We talk about some of our choices for those games in this episode.
When fans re-theme games, or add their own variants, or add house rules! Some of these are available for download (like the Ticket to Ride) while others are just fun to look at! We're going to try some of these out if we can, especially some of these variants.
Starting with this episode we're back to our original schedule! Jondi and Jared talk about how they failed their 2018 10x10 and will never do another 10x10 again, except for maybe both of them doing them in 2019.
Sometimes fancy and expensive board games are worth the money, other times they are the result of Amazon automated prices going crazy or flippers thinking they've struck gold. Another episode in the echo series of episodes from ECAD.
Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the strategy games are so delightful. We talk about a few snowy games and holiday themed games as well.
We play board games with our friends and sometimes that makes for interesting stories. Sometimes it also makes for some kind of weird echo. Just kidding, it's the normal kind of echo! We moved the recording stuff into the new studio room but the sound foam (you know, like the professional kind, not the cheap kind we got from a shady website) didn't make it in time to record. Oh well.
We talk about some games that we like with weird themes as well as talking about a few games with player elimination (a thing we normally do not like!) in this half and half episode. Once again, Jared is sick, and once again, a cat is screaming the entire time. We also talked about Japanese Kit-Kats for half of this episode, so make sure you check in at the 41 minute mark for that.
We looked at the super lengthy list of games dropping as Essen Spiel and revisited some old episode topics. We might do more episodes like this where we drop the themed episodes. Is that cool with you guys? We'll probably do it anyway but I'd at least like to hear some feedback.
We didn't have a theme to tie this episode together but we played a bunch of random games, so let's talk about that! We really got carried away with talking about some of these, and there is, as always, a cat meowing loudly during random parts of the episode. Oops!
Sometimes expansions help breathe new life into games, other times they make a game actually playable. Other times they just add some cool new bling to the game!
We look back fondly (or not so fondly) on some of the games from our youths, and also food from the 80s. Radical.
This episode we're talking about the cool stuff we bought at Gencon, or wanted to buy but couldn't because it was sold out already. And, as always, a 15 minute discussion on cereal.
Humans have been travelling since before Elon Musk brought electric cars to outer space. Trains, planes, automobiles, zeppelins, uh... horses? We're gonna talk about them all in this episode!
I really wanted to do more games that only have you farming points or cubes or whatever but I thought that was too meta and not at all what we were even going for with this one!
Are apps the future or a passing fad? Who can say, but we have some favorites. What better way to spend the holiday than with your eyes glued to a screen playing one?
We're back from Origins and ready to talk about the cool games that we played, and none of the games that we didn't play. We also talk about the Origins awards.
Chicken coop games! How many games could there possibly be about chicken coops? Wait, hang on, I'm getting an update here - turns out we're talking about co-op games! Cooperative games are great fun, but why are so many of them so difficult?
There are so many board games based on TV shows but 85% of them are space or sci-fi TV shows. Jondi is dying in this episode, which is our first episode recorded "on-the-road" with the new "mobile studio," aka we put all of the equipment in a mobile studio rack and now I can carry a 300lbs box around yay.
Listen to how dumb we are in this highly controversial episode where we talk about how we're too dumb to read a rule book correctly! We didn't intend this to be an episode where we just complained about everything, but we just kind of started talking and got lost.
There are lots of great games that are available for free (or at least just the cost of printer paper and ink). Some are homebrew, some are games that are available to print as a demo, and some are just weird. And I cannot stress just how much Jondi hates Werewolf.
Originally this episode was going to be about something completely different. Oh well. Toss these games in your bag and go stand in line somewhere, because it's time to think about waiting for food at restaurants while playing board games!
A bunch of cool games were talked about recently at the GAMA trade show in Reno, Nevada. We checked out a few of them that we thought were really cool. Several really cool upcoming games! [Note: several of the games featured in this episode were made up by us for April Fools Day!]
This episode we're talking about games where the primary mechanic is rolling dice. I cut out 40 minutes of stuff from this episode (that's not an exaggeration either) so this is probably a topic we will come back to some day. Also, have you ever noticed how many dice rolling games have exclamation marks in the names? There is seriously some kind of weird thing going on with those names.
Listen right meow to these adorable cat pun games! Check out these purrfect party games, meowsome... uhh... sometimes cat puns are just too much for some people. All of us at Eat Chit & Dice have a love of cats, and many board game designers do as well. Cat games are awesome, but sometimes the puns are just terrible.
Everyone wants to go to space, but very few people think about the implications that zero gravity would have on playing board games. Board games are not a popular hobby in any space related medium that I am familiar with, so why so many space games?
We all know the struggle of playing games that seem to drag on for far too long. Sure, many times the issue is that you're just learning it, or maybe someone has issues with strategy. But sometimes, the games are to blame. While Jared really enjoys games that can take entire days, Jondi does not.
Do you know the difference between roll-play and role-play? It's okay, neither do we! We're ranting about all of the dumbest characters we've ever made in various RPGs through the years, as well as talking about board games that tie in to role playing games.
New year, new 10x10. We're running through our 2017 and 2018 10x10s. Check out or 2018 games at our website, http://eatchitanddice.com/2018-10x10/ Follow along on our progress through the year as we once again try to play 100 games. Jared (knowingly) didn't rebalance the audio to sound good with the new microphones, so they sound really dry! Do you think this will get fixed for the next episode? Place your bets now!
