+++ STORIES SELL +++ It's amazing how we are more apt to remember stories than we do facts. I'm able to remember a place, person, or event more if I have an associated story attached. However, if you were to tell me facts and expect me to remember as I do stories, forget it. It ain't happening. This is why someone coined this phrase: Facts tell. Stories sell. Oh, how true this is. Why is it then that leaders don't use more stories in communicating with their people? I believe one of the reasons is vulnerability. It does take some vulnerability to tell stories especially those that are more personal in nature. In today's episode of The Kingsley Grant Show, you'll hear our guest - Jared Buckley - tell a very moving story of his daughter and how it shifted his leadership mindset. He also helps us understand how to be more vulnerable and how to do so even under stress. Take a listen. +++++++++++++ Who is JARED BUCKLEY? Jared Buckley is a dynamic coach/consultant and a leading expert on developing the next generation of leaders within the workforce. His work entails coaching leaders and executives for high-performance behaviors, training for team performance, and keynoting on topics such as emotional intelligence, performance, and stress. Jared has written about millennials, emotional intelligence, and future leadership for such publications as Huffington Post, Lifehack, Addicted2Success. And as a consultant and coach, Jared has worked with such organizations as the Fiesta Bowl, Stantec, Marriott, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue, University of Phoenix Stadium, Pathways, and more. Ten years ago this week UConn football reached the highest heights of the college football landscape, taking the field at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona to face perennial powerhouse Oklahoma in the 2011 Fiesta Bowl. It was the culmination of an incredible rise for a former Division 1-AA program, and as it turned out also the program's peak, given the decade of futility that would ultimately follow. Today we look back on this remarkable piece of UConn athletic history and the unique place the 2010 UConn football team occupies in school history, as told be those who experienced it firsthand. First we will hear from wide receiver Kashif Moore, who donned the late Jasper Howard's No. 6 in the game, about his experience as a player and what it was like to be a part of the game. Then we welcome former Daily Campus sportswriter Colin McDonough, who covered the Fiesta Bowl with me, as we reflect on our own memories of getting to cover such a big event as students. This season has been a true rollercoaster for Rams fans, but this episode is jam-packed with optimism and playoff aspirations because of the pure dominance that the Rams displayed, and Minnesota losing to Seattle in Seattle (which puts the Rams 1 game back from the 6th playoff seed). Throughout this episode, the Rams Brothers dissect the 34-7 victory in Arizona, break down the positives/negatives from both sides of the ball and continue with the original segment "Nick's Picks of the Week". He explains just what lithium will – and will not – do for the RVer and how they can be made to reliably work even in very cold weather. Sean Nichols will be coming up soon in our interview of the week. Also in this episode, your questions, RV news if the week and an off the beaten path report from the Burketts. For instance, as the San Francisco 49ers visited the Arizona Cardinals at the University of Phoenix Stadium, many wondered where the fans went. Many just saw empty seats: Mobile phone shipments in general will increase by 2.6% in 2018 to 1.9 billion units worldwide. Smartphone sales will grow by 6.2%, to represent 87% of mobile phone sales. The question remains if phone users will want to buy LTE Advanced/Advanced Pro or 5G-compatible phones just to get the faster speeds. By 2021, 9% of smartphones sold will support 5G, analysis firm Gartner forecasts. 5G phones will reach the market in 2019, when rollouts of 5G networks will start. “Overall, 5G will be a significant driver of video and streaming services, as it will bring faster uplinks and support new AI applications,” said Cozza.

In this episode, a spring break RV trip that turned into a nightmare. A solo female RVer, on her way from California to Washington, made a wrong turn in a National forest, got turned around lost in the wilderness. She and her Golden Retriever, Walter, were stuck on a steep and rocky mountain road and ended up spending four night and five days far from civilization just as local bears were hungrily waking up from hibernation. You'll hear this harrowing tale from the lost RVer herself, 63-year-old Penelope Bax, whose strong spirit and calm actions kept her safe until a California Highway Patrol helicopter spotted her RV and airlifted her and Walter to safety. You'll love meeting Penelope and hearing the lessons she learned from being lost in the wilderness. [spp-player] Show Notes for Episode #187 April 11, 2018 of Roadtreking - The RV Podcast WHAT MIKE AND JENNIFER ARE UP TO THIS WEEK [spp-timestamp time="2:26"] As this episode is being released, we are scheduled to arrive in Phoenix, Arizona, where we'll be attending the big Super B RV Show put on each year at this time by the folks at LaMesa RV. We will be at the University of Phoenix Stadium, on the playing field as a matter of fact, meeting and greeting folks from all over the southwest. I think we're even going to present a seminar or two about our experience traveling and exploring in a Class B motorhome We'll also have a Facebook Live report on our Roadtreking Facebook Page that we'll do sometime Friday or Saturday and, of course, we'll be shooting a video for our RV Lifestyle You Tube Channel on everything that is new in the Class B world. Well, we're back in Michigan for a few days, recording this episode from our sticks and bricks house just before we head to Arizona. We're flying out there because we ran out of time to drive there. We did drive our RV up from Florida and watched springtime disappear. We have a video on that trip that will be published Thursday April 12 on our RV Lifestyle You Tube Channel but needless to say, we had to re-winterize again as we came back from the cold. We watched spring come down south but it sure disappeared as we headed north. Jennifer likes to say that coming back to the cold will let us experience spring again. That's the good news But the bad news, as Mike likes to say, we also get to experience winter twice. Besides the rescue of that stranded RVer in California that we'll soon hear about in our interview of the week, there's a lot of RV news you need to now about this weekend. The first story is: that the government issued a report last week linking faulty Goodyear motor home tires to as many as 95 deaths or injuries over the past two decades. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration started investigating last year.  The investigation centers on tires made between 1996 and 2003, alleging they were made for delivery trucks not motor homes which travel at high speeds on freeways. To read more click here or here. We RVers love to travel with our pets. But have you heard about Henry and Baloo? The dog and cat are best friends whose owners photograph them camping and hiking in Colorado, clearly enjoying every minute of it. The cat likes to sit on the dog as he walks or swims, and the two cuddle, making quite a photogenic pair, gaining a large and ever growing social media following. To read more click here or check out their Instagram here. And Speaking of dogs and cats, pets are no longer allowed on Canada's Prince Edward Island's National Park beaches under a new law. From April 1 - October 15 domestic animals are banned from the beach, and violators face a $125 fine. To learn more,

[spp-player] Show Notes for Episode #186 April 4, 2018 of Roadtreking - The RV Podcast: WHAT MIKE AND JENNIFER ARE UP TO THIS WEEK [spp-timestamp time="2:00"] It's April already and springtime is slowly making its way north to those still in the unseasonable cold Midwest and northern states. We're finishing up a nearly three month trip that has us coming to you this week from Florida. We just had a long aster weekend visit fom two of our three adult children, their spouses and five of our eight grandkids. It was great family time here on the Emerald Coast hanging out at the beach and enjoying the sunshine. We will hit the Road Thursday of this week and make our way back to check up on our sticks and bricks home in Michigan. But it will be a very brief visit of about three days because next week, we will head to Phoenix, Arizona, here we will be putting on a couple of seminars and hanging out at the Super B RV Show being held April 12-15 at the University of Phoenix Stadium. We've been reporting a lot on past podcasts about a proposal by the government to dramatically increase entry fees to National Parks. Well this week we can report that Interior Department officials are backing away from that after receiving more than 100,000 public comments from Americans nearly unanimously opposed to the idea. In October, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke proposed to increase peak-season entrance fees at 17 parks from $25 to $70 — the largest hike since World War II. Joshua Tree National Park in California, where the peak season starts in January, would have been the first to charge the higher rate, followed by a dozen other parks where visitation peaks in May and June. The cost of riding a motorcycle into the parks would have risen to $50, and walking or biking in would have cost $30. But as temperatures climb and parks prepare for another season of potentially record-breaking visitation, Interior and National Park Service officials are rethinking the plan based on public comments that inundated the NPS website over an abbreviated 30-day period. An Interior official familiar with the changes now being discussed told the Washington Post that some type of increase remains almost certain but that the dramatic hike is being reconsidered for fear that it would cause visitation to plunge, reducing sorely needed revenue at top destinations such as Yosemite in California, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Zion and Bryce Canyon in Utah, and Yellowstone in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming Here's something else that has been making the news and RV related social media. It has to do with a 63 year old San Diego woman who was missing over the Easter weekend. Elizabeth Bax was on her way to the Seattke area to visit relatives for the holiday but never showed up. We're happy to say she was fund and rescued near Hirz Bay, a campground off of Lake Shasta in California, which has 6,200 miles of rivers and streams. Her sister says she thinks Bax ran out of gas in her Winnebago Class C  RV and her cell phone was dead. Bax was found dehydrated but stable and was airlifted to a local hospital. Her dog Walter is also being treated. Here's some other things happening this week that we think will be of interest to RVers…

In This Podcast:  We hear from Ray Jess, a man who loves to learn, and is enthusiastically helping others get excited about wicking bed gardens.  When he first saw a wicking bed at a fellow Master Gardener's yard, he was intrigued and that started his deep research. From there he tinkered with an idea about how he could build one in his own yard, with a little improvement, of course. Now he has written an article for the Urban Farm and we hear the benefits of capillary action in his own words. Don't miss an episode! Click here to sign up for weekly podcast updates After retiring from two careers, the Air Force and teaching, he pursued his love of food by graduating from the Phoenix Art Institute with a certificate in Culinary Arts. The highlight of his culinary experience was working as a chef for the 2007 Super Bowl at the University of Phoenix Stadium. Natural extensions for this self-proclaimed foodie were the completion of his Master Gardner training and his Certificate in Permaculture Design. A love of fresh foods and herbs kept him gardening for the last two decades.  During a volunteer component of his Master Gardner training, Ray discovered wicking garden beds. A man of curiosity and a seeker of ways to do things more efficiently, he embarked on a research project leading him to the Father of Wicking Beds, Collin Austin. As a result of Ray's research, his backyard garden has evolved from rows of crops in a plot of ground and raised beds, to grow-buckets and wicking beds. He is currently keeping his eyes open for the next great idea to perfect his garden, so he can keep giving his family, friends, and neighbors fresh produce. WR Josh Huff returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown, QB Carson Wentz outplayed QB Sam Bradford and the Philadelphia Eagles beat Minnesota 21-10 on Sunday, handing the Vikings their first loss of the season. Don't let your children grow up to be kickers. Just don't. The overtime period of Sunday night's matchup between the Cardinals and Seahawks will live on in infamy for fans of both teams. The game will also endure as a career-low moment for two men who play the same position. First up was Chandler Catanzaro. The Cardinals kicker lined up for a 19-yard chip shot with less than four minutes to play in OT. The attempt was the equivalent of the old-school extra point. So confident were the Cardinals in the distance that they didn't even sweat the five-yard delay of game penalty. Even with the foul, the attempt remained firmly in Super Gimme territory. And then Catanzaro yoinked it. What Catanzaro couldn't have known at this, his lowest moment, was that he would not suffer alone on this night. The Seahawks took over and marched down the field, highlighted by Doug Baldwin's catch-and-run that nearly went to the house. Now it was Seattle in chip-shot range and Stephen Hauschka being called upon to make the presumed official. A 28-yard attempt, this one far shorter than the current PAT. Hauschka has had his problems at University of Phoenix Stadium, but he couldn't ... could he? Oh, he could. Yoink. New England Patriots 27, Pittsburgh Steelers 16 1. Business as usual from Tom Brady. The stats won't show it (222 yards, two TDs), but the Patriots quarterback dominated and outsmarted the Steelers' defense, especially in the second half. Encountering little to no pressure from the front four, Brady opted often for sure routes from receivers in the flat until Rob Gronkowski found room to run late in the second half. Through three games, Brady has yet to throw an interception since returning from suspension and has shown no hint of a decline. 2. Brady didn't lead New England all by his lonesome; LeGarrette Blount happily carried the load. The former Steelers running back returned to the team that once cut him and outperformed his rival back, Le'Veon Bell. Blount continued a career year with his third 100-plus rushing yard game of 2016 and scored two touchdowns at the goal line. Blount now has more touchdowns through seven weeks (8) than he's had in any season in his career. While the 49ers may be the Los Angeles Rams most storied rival and the Seahawks the most formidable, during the Jeff Fisher Era the Cardinals have been the most hated—which made it all the more delightful when L.A. beat Arizona 17-13 at University of Phoenix Stadium on Sunday. “We see them after Christmas,” said Fisher inside the Rams locker room after the game. “This was their Christmas present. We just gave it to them early.” Joshua Neuman and Tunisha Singleton revel in the Bruce Arians beat down and wonder whether Jeff Fisher’s trash talking was also a secret message to his critics. Plus, Case and Kimberly Keenum have breakfast with Ryan Seacrest, Brian and Michelle Quick take shit from nobody, and the Buffalo Bills come to town in a game that pits Buddy Ryan’s protégé against his progeny.

Michael Grandinetti is not your ordinary magician.  With performances on national and international television, in stadiums, arenas, casinos, and theaters around the U.S., with Oscar winning composers and symphony orchestras, for NFL halftime shows and major sporting events while surrounded by 70,000 people, for Fortune 500 companies, and even at The White House, Michael has made a name for himself around the world as an extremely talented and innovative illusionist and entertainer. He has starred in NBC's "The World's Most Dangerous Magic" television special, The CW's "Masters of Illusion" series, and Pop Network's "Don't Blink" series, and has been featured in FOX's "Bones" series, the "Hollywood Christmas Parade" on The CW, "Entertainment Tonight", "Access Hollywood", "SportsCenter", "NBA on TNT", "New York Today", "FOX & Friends", and "The Bold and the Beautiful".  Michael was recently featured on the cover of TV Times magazine, released in newspapers across the U.S. Entertainment Weekly named Michael as “a great magician who can truly communicate with a TV audience”. Michael has also pioneered live magic in one of the most challenging environments imaginable, major-league football stadiums, baseball stadiums, and basketball arenas for NFL and NBA halftime shows and large-scale sporting event shows.  For example, at Bank of America Stadium, Michael caused people to appear, disappear, shrink in size, and levitate above the 50-yard line, while 70,000 people witnessed the magic with a 360 degree view.  At Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium, Michael performed one of the largest live interactive illusions in history when he read the minds of all 45,000 people in the stadium at the same time.  At University of Phoenix Stadium, for the Arizona Cardinals, Michael's halftime show was part of large-scale entertainment at the game, which included legendary rock band Journey who performed the national anthem.  Michael's performance for halftime at the Chicago Bulls NBA playoff game at United Center in Chicago caused commentators Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley to comment in amazement during the live national broadcast on TNT. Michael was recently honored to be the first Illusionist ever invited to perform in the National Independence Day Parade in Washington DC.  During this remarkable celebration of the U.S., Michael levitated a girl high above one of the floats as it moved down Constitution Avenue, while a live audience of 250,000 people lined the streets. This is magic on a major scale. Make sure you catch Michael when he stars in Season Three of the hit CW series "Masters of Illusion", premiering in the summer of 2016.  Michael is one of the extraordinary people featured on The One Way Ticket Show.   In the podcast, Host Steven Shalowitz explores with his guests where they'd go if given a one way ticket, no coming back!  Destinations may be in the past, present, future, real, imaginary or a state of mind. The Arizona Cardinals had a bye week in the playoffs and got to sit back and wait and see who they would play. Wild Card weekend brought some surprises. What matchups matter, is there anything to Green Bay and their swagger? How will this game look the second time around with a healthy Packers team, albeit on short rest. The Cardinals also made a roster move to replace an injured Alex Okafor and add veteran Jason Babin. The hosts give their take on the move and whether they are excited at all. Lastly, they discuss the potential matchups in the NFC Championship game.
