YES: Part 2 - A Louder Yes January 30 & 31: Nate Ross That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. MARK 1:32-34 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: "Everyone is looking for you!" Jesus replied, "Let us go somewhere else--to the nearby villages--so I can preach there also. That is why I have come." So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons. MARK 1:35-39 It's important to talk to God; it's even more important to let God talk to us. Prayer is our PRIORITY. “If God is not FIRST in our thoughts and efforts in the morning, He will be in the LAST place the remainder of the day.” E.M. BOUNDS "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” JOHN 15:5 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn't we drive it out?" He replied, "This kind can come out only by prayer." *MARK 9:28-29 * Prayer needs a PLACE. During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. *HEBREWS 5:7 * He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. *PSALM 23:2-3 * Prayer reveals God's PLAN. Pause. Rejoice. Ask. Yield.

Runner, Interrupted is ready to launch! Click here to be added to the beta testing list! Congratulations to Maintain participant Tamara Paton, who shall heretofore be referred to as "IronTam" for finishing the Barrelman Half Ironman today! ReBuild 1. So how many more weeks is Uranus in retrograde? Asking for a friend. ;) More life happening in September than expected and I haven’t run more than twice this month, and haven’t been keeping up with walking much in the last week. But I managed work travel, got a raise and am replacing both cars at once. Am I still winning at life? Ann from Tx #choosethecheetos Remember that you’re paying for the tether. Maintain 1. Does anyone else suddenly want to eat ALL. THE. THINGS. during the taper? or is it just me? (I'm fine during the regular schedule) Coach Sarah: UM YES. Metabolic change = YAY! 2. Saturdays are getting busy around here. Can I flip-flop the Friday and Saturday runs or do I need to do more schedule re-arranging than that? I have Fridays off so they are great for long runs. YES THIS IS FINE! 3. If I want to swap out a run for a bike ride, is the heart rate cap the same? I think I heard somewhere that it should be 8-10 beats lower because you don't have to support your own weight? What matters is being safe - technically yes but we’re not that worried about a firm 130 cap as opposed to 140. Safe and careful as possible! 4. My last run was August 24, and I’ve walked a handful of times since then. For the next few days, pain management is the priority, then surgery on Wednesday (laparoscopic cystectomy), recovery, and reintroduction to running. What would be the best plan for me to follow in October? Will runner interrupted be up then? I’m still hoping that the Kiawah HM can still happen for me in December. ❤️and thanks. Let’s plan to be in RI and only take up more work when we are certain we are ready for more work - remember that you are NOT behind in any way 5. I “YOLO’d” a Ragnar Sunset race yesterday. It was two loops of 4.75 miles. I did okay but I was hot and I realized how important it is for me to maintain my long runs each week, as the past few weeks I cut them shorter due to time constraints. My question is: can you please remind me of all of the good recovery things I should be doing this week? Of course there will be foam-rolling and Avocado toast, but other tips/reminders would be appreciated too. Thanks! HYDRATION! 6. Sorry in advance for how long this is probably going to be! Is tomorrow (monday 9/23) the right time for the optional EAT in Tenacious if my race is 10/5? or did I miss the right time for it (last monday)? Also, I had a glorious 4 hour long run yesterday, and no matter what happens on race day, yesterday's LR will forever live in my memory as perfection. I'm not a bit sore today, but everything was stiff and tired yesterday by the time 4 hours had passed. to complete the distance on race day I will be staring down 2+ more hours on those tired achy muscles...any encouragement/mantras you can offer to make that seem less daunting would be SOOOO appreciated! Part 1 - YES Part 2 - I’m SO AWESOME! Coach MK and Coach Sarah livestream question and answer sessions each week on the Fitness Protection Program Facebook Page, The Fitness Protection Program YouTube Channel, and Twitch, simultaneously. Join us! They are a lot of fun and super informative, and anyone may ask follow-up questions during the live broadcast.
Episode 56 – Yes Part 19, Yes & Time and a Word Paul, Ken and Joe correct a past Palaver mistake by closing out the year of #YES50 and returning to the first two Yes albums; Yes and Time and a Word. These two albums were skipped when the Palaver began the initial Yes segment but their importance meant that they had to be covered. The group considers these two records in relation to the beginnings of progressive rock and what Yes themselves would ultimately become. The contribution and impact of all the players is significant. These two albums point the way to The Yes Album and beyond. Episode 55 – Yes Part 18, Heaven & Earth Tom, Ken and Joe move to the end of the of Yes catalog with the most recent release from @YesOfficial, Heaven & Earth. This album marks a clear movement towards new horizons and was, at the time, only the third album released without Jon Anderson. New singer Jon Davidson has significant writing credits here and Billy Sherwood pitches in with engineering duties. Heaven & Earth is different to be certain and is sure to generate some passionate opinions. The Palaver is split on this album but there is certainly a LOT of love for it overall. It’s different but is it Yes? Listen to this Palaver and tell us what you think. Episode 54 – Yes Part 17, Fly From Here & Fly From Here, Return Trip Joe and Ken have an unabashed lovefest for both versions of the Fly From Here album. Thirty years in the making, Fly From Here is worth every day of the wait. The discussion focuses on the interesting amalgam found in these albums from songwriting, influences, production and singers. It’s not often you are able to fully enjoy two interpretations of the same album that do not, in any way, diminish the other. Both Benoit David and Trevor Horn get props for delivering vocals in their own manner. These albums see Yes seemingly operating as an energized, cohesive unit and the payoff if palpable. Both Fly From Here albums showcase all that is great about Yes music. Episode 53 – Yes Part 16, Magnification Joe, Paul and Ken discuss this often-overlooked gem in the Yes catalog. When Chris Squire sings “You might need a guide” you should probably pay attention. Episode 52 – Yes Part 15, The Ladder The year of Yes continues as Paul, Ken and Joe tackle The Ladder. The technical gremlins manifest themselves in this episode as phantom beeps but the Palaver is as engaging as ever for this joyful, enjoyable album. The group finds The Ladder as a pleasant surprise (Ken declares the album a “hidden gem”) in the catalog in this time. The only Yes album recorded with six members, The Ladder benefits from the flexibility of an extra set of hands and a collaborative songwriting process. While some may dismiss the “progressive adult contemporary” aspects of this record, the Palaver finds it to be an excellent listen. Episode 51 – Yes Part 15, Keys to Ascension & Open Your Eyes The almost full Palaver of Joe, Paul, Ken, Jay and Tom tackle both Keys to Ascension albums and Open Your Eyes in this episode. The musical parallels between Keys and Tormato are explored at some length whether or not they actually exist. Either way it seems this group can’t stop talking about that particular album (Ken suggests a drinking game). Tom sees Keys as a reaffirmation of a great band while Joe posits that Keys represents what ABWH should have been. Paul suggests a Mr. Crowley influence and Ken points out that Keys features a VERY restrained Rick Wakeman. Open Your Eyes fares less well in the eyes of the Palaver. A canon album in name alone, the group finds little redeeming here which is interesting given the obvious relationship between this album and The Ladder. Episode 48 – Yes Part 12, ABWH & Union For this episode of the Yes Palaver Paul, Ken and Joe discuss the curious period in Yes history with the albums Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe and Union. These two albums represent a very dynamic period in the band’s history. The interweaving timelines for the two Yes camps that resulted in these albums is fascinating and is ultimately punctuated by management intervention, producer shenanigans and “too many everybodies” vocals. Neither of them perhaps realize the potential for these groups of musicians but there are some highlights. For ABWH those highlights include Themes, Brother of Mine, Birthright and The Meeting (although all agree this song is better live than on the record). Highlights of Union include I Would Have Waited Forever, Lift Me Up and The More We Live, Let Go (not the questionable Mira-kill of Life or Angkor Wat). Ken posits that these are the two best Jon Anderson solo albums and Paul ultimately points to the real value of Union being the 8-man tour that opened fans such as ourselves to the magic of Awaken. Episode 47 – Yes Part 11, Big Generator This episode is another lean Palaver where Ken and Joe consider the Yes album Big Generator. Ken provides a look into the outstanding prog context of 1987 (what a year!). Regardless of the greater Palaver’s feeling about this album, Big Generator was the group’s ultimate gateway to Yes, originally via Paul. While Tom provides some scathing criticism via text message, Ken ultimately feels that both Big Generator and 90125 met the goals for all stakeholders involved. Big Generator sees Trevor Rabin specifically trying to write Yes music and strangely enough may come closest in certain sections of the lengthy “I’m Running”. Jon Anderson’s increased influence on this lineup is felt very clearly in the “beautiful positivity” of the last three tracks. Ken summarized our thoughts perfectly when he said, “In an upside-down world, this album makes a lot of sense.” Twitter: @progpala Email: progpala@gmail.com Facebook: www.facebook.com/ProgPala Instagram: ProgPala / Progressive Palaver YouTube: www.youtube.com/channel/UCw_Xxit3D8wbv-AcJ_7Z__w/featured Theme music provided by: Dave DeWhitt
Episode 46 – Yes Part 10, 90125 In order to help celebrate 50 years of Yes, the Palaver returns to the Yes catalog with the 1983 album 90125. Paul, Tom, Ken and Joe (including Jay and Colby in spirit if not substance) dive deep into this game-changing (for better or worse) album featuring the return of Jon Anderson and Tony Kaye to the band. The significant influence of the two Trevors is contemplated. The Palaver talks at length about the courage demonstrated by the songwriting collaboration to create these truly remarkable songs and is left impressed. Whether this album is “classic” Yes or not, it is very clearly a timeless masterpiece in terms of songwriting, performance and production. Episode 17 - Yes Part 8, Drama Paul, Ken, Jay and Joe finish out their initial discussion of the Yes catalog with the 1980 powerhouse Drama. The group delves into the evolution of Yes music brought on by the departure of Rick and Jon and the arrival of Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes. Jay clues us in to why Drama speaks to him over some of the Yes albums. The place of Drama in the greater context of 1980’s music is explored as well. We hope you enjoy this exploration of a brilliant and potentially underappreciated album. Episode 16 – Yes Part 7, Tormato Paul, Joe and Ken, with the help of Jay, move on to 1978’s Yes offering, Tormato. The group struggles with how to place this album coming as it does between Going for the One and Drama. Why Don’t Kill the Whale as the single? Did marijuana use contribute to both the album itself and its popularity? Inquiring minds want to know. Ken posits an interesting theory to explain the whole thing… Twitter: @progpala Email: progpala@gmail.com Facebook: www.facebook.com/ProgPala YouTube: www.youtube.com/channel/UCw_Xxit3D8wbv-AcJ_7Z__w/featured Theme music provided by: Dave DeWhitt
Episode 15 – Yes Part 6, Going for the One Paul, Joe and Ken continue discuss Going for the One by a rejuvenated Yes. Themes in the conversation range from the songcraft involved in this album, to Yes being “cowboy crazy” to the virtues of Swiss telephone infrastructure in the 70’s (complete with a consideration of the economics of copper) to the respect Rick Wakeman has for the church organ. The Palaver is struck by the overall sense of renewal in this album and how it manifests in both the fun (Going for the One and Parallels) and the beautiful (Turn of the Century, Awaken). Episode 14 – Yes Part 5, Tales From Topographic Oceans & Relayer Paul, Joe and Ken continue their consideration of the early Yes catalog by covering the two progrock juggernauts Tales From Topographic Oceans and Relayer. The group ponders topics like the influence of personnel changes (the departure of Bill Bruford’s big ball of influence and Rick Wakeman, the arrival of Alan White and Patrick Moraz) on Yes music, the heyday of early 70’s progrock, and did Genesis’ Supper’s Ready influence The Gates of Delirium? Episode 13 – Yes Part 4, Close to the Edge Paul, Joe and Ken discuss the seminal Yes album Close to the Edge. Ken opens the episode with a dramatic impression of Chris Squire (apologies to our UK listeners lol) before we move on to consider the role of Eddie Offord in the creation of Yes music. Paul provides a moving account of the inspiration for the song Close to the Edge, a song we finally decide is pure art. Tweet us @progpala. Write us at progpala@gmail.com. Episode 12 – Yes Part 3, Fragile Paul, Joe and Ken discuss Fragile. The conversation gets started with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction (where Alan White gets invited to the dinner club) before moving into the album proper. The discussion obviously centers around the musical interactions among this, the arguably “best” Yes lineup. The magic of Bill Bruford, is Rick Wakeman subtle and how great is Roundabout are all explored. Tweet us @progpala. Write us at progpala@gmail.com. Episode 11 – Yes Part 2 The Yes Album Paul, Joe and Ken discuss The Yes Album, the genesis of the truly classic Yes. The group considers the impact of adding Steve Howe (and his myriad instruments) to the lineup and discuss the meaning of Yours Is No Disgrace. Paul revels in the Hammond work of Tony Kaye and Peter Banks is ultimately invited to join the dinner club. Tweet us @progpala. Write us at progpala@gmail.com. Episode 10 – Yes Part 1 “Yes Preamble” Paul, Joe and Ken begin their discussion of the early Yes catalog (through Drama) with an overview of their thoughts on Yes. Joe explains his biases and the group explains how each discovered Yes. Bill Bruford is discovered, Tony Kaye is redeemed and Joe needs to buy Jay Schellen dinner. Tweet us @progpala.
