To promote their new film Double Blind, Thomas D. Moser and Christopher Showerman honored me by stopping by to chat about the black and white conspiracy spy thriller flick. While Tom directed this film, he has a long history with animation, particularly Marvel-related. We chatted about his work on Planet Hulk, Hulk Vs., Wolverine and the X-Men, Avengers: Assemble, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, The Superhero Squad Show, Thor: Tales of Asgard, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., and Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow. Discussing the many Marvel animations he worked on, we also talked about the cues the live-action MCU has taken from the shows and films like Planet Hulk and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Telling us about building the arena for the animated Planet Hulk Film, he also talked about his experience seeing that come to life in Thor: Ragnarok. Tom also speaks about his more recent animation work on Duncanville and Big mouth. When we finally let Chris talk, we speak on his work in Supergirl and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., George of the Jungle 2, and all the stuntwork he had to do alongside his acting role in Double Blind. Enjoy and I hope you have as much fun as we did! Don't forget to check out Double Blind, which is now streaming for free with an Amazon Prime membership and can also be found on all other digital platforms.

That bad guy from Stargrove hatches a diabolical plan to steal all the dubious chips using bug-bots while Tom Selleck's mustache chases tail AND Gene Simmons. Maybe program your robots to only attack your enemies, Gene. What is Runaway? It falls into this weird pit where you can't really say its a stinker as there is a number of really well done things. Of course, Selleck is great. Gene Simmons is a great villain. Kirstie Alley and Cynthia Rhodes are competent. It looks good. The effects are solid. The "future" world (not sure if its the future as we never have a "Five Years From Now" card) is well crafted. The score is appropriate and subtle. Yet, somehow every bit of good is countered with pure cheesy stink. The robots... how do you build a Roomba to hold a gun? The movie tells us that the runaway that does so has been modified - so this family of 4 put a hand on it that can pull a trigger. It doesn't work. So because the families of America are too stupid to not put handgun holding hands on their dust-busters, local police are now robot catchers with all of the powers of the precinct to catch robots that runover corn and drop cement in the wrong spot. "I'll need a tank, three choppers and sixteen rocket launchers to catch this pizza-bot!" Second to this is the pacing and narrative. While Tom and Cynthia are doing their Geek Squad thing for the first half, a trail of clues that lead to Gene Simmons is put together off screen. They go from turning off robots at a construction site to infiltrating the corporate HQ that Simmon's Luther is hatching his mastermind plan. Luther is a bit of an idiot. Great job leaving that Tupperware full of clues on your secretaries desk and modifying a robot near those chips so that the only way the cops can catch you is to have them come to this office. You boner. While we're being told a very dark tale of technology gone amuck and the Occam's Razor of our relationship with tech, Tom's character is growing a huge chub over damsels in distress held captive by security bots. Back that up with some seriously not funny jokes. Its clear while Crichton is a sci-fi genius, he's about as funny as mud. Toss in the least frightening robots since The Rock Lords and now the scale is tilting to Stinker.

Tom Holkenborg has proved his versatility across many genres, and his most recent projects showcase his abilities to craft narratives from big action set pieces down to nuanced emotional character arcs. While Tom has been a guest on Film.Music.Media in the past, this is our first All Access and we take the time to dive into Army Of The Dead, Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Godzilla vs. Kong. Tom takes us through his thoughts and emotions when he finally learned that Zack would be returning to finish his vision of Justice League. Tom tossed out all his initial work and started fresh for Justice League, and he takes us through how exactly he mapped out and structured his approach in tackling this 4-hour epic. Tom also discusses working with Zack Snyder again for Army Of The Dead and how the film and score may play with expectations and provide some fun surprises for the action-horror zombie heist flick. We also touch on Godzilla vs. Kong and how Tom’s love for the entirety of the Godzilla franchise helped him shape his own take on the two titular screen monsters. We discuss the trick to scoring massive action fights, creating momentum through music, and how he approached each of them thematically to give unique musical identities. Tom also discusses where he sees himself currently in his career, and how his curiosity and thirst for knowledge has become almost an addiction that keeps him busy outside of his music career. Tom shares about learning new languages, perfecting a cup of coffee, and working on his culinary skills among many other things that help keep him craving to learn new things. We also chat about how his popular Studio Time series got started, and why he dedicates tons of time to providing knowledge for free to those who are interested. Tom’s passion for music, instruments, and gear shine through his warm personality. He’s one of the most creative minds in the industry, and it’s always an honor to have him sit down and share some stories and insight.

Take a Breath! An active training session on mental wellness is the topic for this week's podcast. Resilience coach Jenny Canau takes Tom Pearson through steps to becoming more mindful and positive, giving him the techniques to change his way of thinking and being. The session is part of Africa Legal's Ubuntu series on mental health and is an introduction to Jenny's eight-week virtual resilience courses being run through the University of Cape Town's Law@Work programme. While Tom and Jenny are physically thousands of miles apart, they move through the session with the ease of two people in the same room. Jenny's warm laughter and calm voice help Tom through the steps to becoming more considered and positive. “I really enjoyed it and found the activity genuinely helpful,” says Tom. Jenny explains that with training we can grow our mindfulness capacity, which in turn helps to regulate our nervous system and improve our sense of well-being. “Neuroscience shows that regular practise of mindfulness reduces stress and the inflammation it causes in our bodies, which can lead to illness. It helps build our inner-resilience, emotional stability and ability to cope with life's challenges,” she says. Tom comments how many lawyers live a fast-paced busy and reactive life, denying themselves the joy of being in the moment but, through embracing relaxation techniques, they can reduce stress and focus their thinking and so become more considered and productive. Jenny's training focuses on cultivating equanimity of mind which can be applied to every aspect of life. In the podcast she takes Tom through several mindfulness exercises followed by a short discussion where they reflect on the impact of the exercises and why they are beneficial. For anyone struggling with negative thinking or battling with stress, this podcast is an interesting insight into what mindfulness training involves. The first course dates fall on days between April 12 and May 31 from 6pm to 8pm (SA time) and the second between June 10 and July 29. Livestream January 13, 2021 @ 12:00 PM EST (5:00 UK, 6:00 PM Germany) Featuring: Attorney Thomas Renz President Trump recently said that COVID data is far exaggerated, which falls in line with the lawsuit that several attorneys and doctors have filed in 2 states and nationally. Atty Tom Renz is the lead Attorney in 3 major cases brought in Ohio, New Mexico, and Nationally regarding the unconstitutional COVID-19 lockdowns, mask mandates, business closures and more. His focus is serving justice with integrity at Renz Law Firm. Renz Law has been hired to fight for the rights of Americans by ensuring that the Constitution is honored during the response to COVID-19. While Tom recognizes that this fight is controversial, he believes it simply should not be. The Constitution of the United States does not allow for states to disregard the rights of American citizens without meeting the appropriate levels of judicial scrutiny. For fundamental rights, the State bears the burden of proof and must ensure our rights are only limited to the extent necessary to achieve a compelling governmental interest. Renz says "That simply is not happening." Attorneys, Doctors, and several Citizen's Rights Groups have joined together to file 3 first of a kind lawsuits challenging the entire premise of COVID-19 from PCR testing, death numbers, business & church shutdowns, masks mandates, and vaccines. This all encompassing lawsuit's lead Attorney Thomas Renz says "Yes, COVID-19 the virus is real. But that's where reality stops. We have evidence of data manipulation of "cases" and "death numbers". We have evidence of money exchanged to create/manipulate an increase in the number of cases and deaths. And, it is our contention that manipulated data is being used to create fear in our citizens which is leading to people giving up their Constitutional Rights Certain people in government and positions of authority in medicine are using that fear to brazenly and brutally strip away our freedoms, and it must stop." "Our lawsuit's goal is not money. Our lawsuit's goal is to make the devastating government lockdowns stop once and for all and to give the citizens of this great country their medical freedom back" added Renz. Though Renz does not rule out a future class action lawsuit by business owners across America that have lost billions due to the lockdowns. "These outrageous lockdowns based on false data, hyped by the media, and censored by social media, have led to suicides increasing, drug use and abuse increasing, domestic abuse increasing, loss of jobs/ homes/ and people's ability to keep businesses operational. It's completely unconstitutional. This can not and will not stand. Americans must be made whole." The good news is that Tom noticed it after only a minute or so after it stopped recording and the 41 minutes recorded were saved! On the other side, it took Tom the rest of the day to finish recording the episode, hence the Part I. Which in itself became a test and how Tom dealt with it would determine the outcome - once again! On this episode I spoke with Tom Allwright, who shares his story of inspiring others with his adventures, and how he became a game changer. Tom played AFL for the Geelong Cats before succumbing to an injury, which forced him to retire. This could be seen as an unfortunate story, but speaking with Tom, it’s proof of how you can turn your life around into an awesome adventure of following your passion. We were lucky to have the opportunity to speak with Tom, as before he left Australia for Nepal, to open a school that his team had built after it was severely damaged from the earthquake in 2015. Tom started Adventure Abroad to inspire people to get up and do the things that inspire them. He imparts this desire by providing a platform for unique adventure opportunities and experiences. Tom grew up on a small farm in central Tasmania, where he’d always had a passion for sport. He enjoyed rowing through high school and was selected to represent Tasmania before being drafted into his favourite AFL team, the Geelong Cats. Consecutive knee injuries cut short Tom’s dream of playing AFL in 2010. During this time, he also completed his Commerce and Law degree. While Tom was studying, he started a health and fitness business in Melbourne. This is where he found a passion for adventure travel. At the age of 26, Tom set up his first office in his grandma’s spare bedroom and founded Adventure Abroad. Now, Adventure Abroad are partnered with some of the world’s leading brands. Tom provides purpose with many of his quirky adventure expeditions by linking in with charity organisations from around the world to raise funds for a common goal. Adventure Abroad aim to help raise in excess of $1,000,000.00 in 2019. The success of Adventure Abroad, which includes having a long lunch at the North Pole, driving tuk tuk's through the Himalaya's in India (with celebrity guests) and forging partnerships with global luxury brands has not happened by chance. Every quarter, Tom sits down and writes 5 goals that he wants to achieve in both personal life and also in business.Tom has completed two Ironman events, five marathons and led expeditions all around the world with this format. Tom lives in Hobart, Australia. You will certainly be inspired by Tom’s drive and enthusiasm, in achieving his goals. In this episode, BikeRadar's technical editor Tom Marvin and technical writer Seb Stott cover the somewhat huge topic of mountain bike geometry. While Tom advocates for slightly 'smaller' bikes, Seb is definitely a fan of the super long and slack. Geometry is key in dictating how a bike rides - long, slack bikes tend to be calm, confident and fast, whereas shorter bikes might be a touch more agile and involving to ride. There's no right or wrong, but that's not to say that Tom and Seb don't have opinions on the subject. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Fifteen years ago, I was hired by the franchise owner of a Dale Carnegie office to help grow the business — and eventually develop into an instructor myself. Tom, who hired me, was the kind of person all of us hope to work for in our careers. He cared about people so much that you could barely ever get him talking about himself. Just as important, he lived and breathed the values of Dale Carnegie. Carnegie offices have always been on the conservative side in business attire and Tom was on the conservative side of conservative attire. He showed up every day in a dark suit, traditional tie, and a white shirt. I heard someone joke the first week I was there that you’re allowed to wear any color dress shirt you want, as long as it’s white. Not thinking much of the comment, I showed up a few weeks later to a staff meeting wearing a dark suit, a tie, and an ecru shirt (a very light, beige color). While Tom said nothing himself, I noticed a few stares from others during that day’s staff meeting — including a senior college who pointed out my “brown” shirt when the focus of the agenda had turned to me. Turns out the joke about white shirts wasn’t a joke after all. I got the message, and it was fine. I bought some more white shirts and everyone was happy. The bigger issue eventually loomed with clients. I’ve called Southern California home for 20 years now. I’m don’t think there’s ever been a time that suits and ties have been the norm here. There was also a broader, cultural shift happening here in the United States about the time I started with Carnegie to dress more casually at work. As time went on, it became increasingly apparent that our conservative dress was becoming an obstacle. A valued client approached me one day and said, “We love working with your team, but it’s really odd that you all look like the Secret Service every time you show up.” I knew it wasn’t likely that Tom would entertain a formal policy change out of the blue, so I decided on a different approach. I starting wearing brightly colored ties to work, while going out of the way to ensure every other item of clothing I wore was as conservative as possible. Still technically in line with the dress code, nobody could say much. Since we were a small office, everyone noticed. Once in awhile, I’d through in an ecru shirt or a blue shirt when there were no client meetings or it wasn’t likely I’d run into Tom. One day, someone else wore a colorful tie. After awhile, a few more colors started showing up from others. Finally, the glorious day arrived when the senior colleague who had commented on my “brown” shirt a year or two earlier, showed up for a formal meeting in a blue shirt and a sweater vest. Shortly after, the policy changed. When working with clients who had causal dress cultures, we could ditch our ties. Looking back, it seems like such a tiny thing. At the time though, in the midst of working in a very traditional organization with generations of history, it was a fairly significant shift. There’s a time and a place for a good protest or boycott. Too often though, that’s the starting point instead of the ending point. When it comes to long-standing cultural norms grounded in identity, transitions come slower. If you show up as a leader in an organization and look and act really different than everyone else, most of the time that’s a mistake. People aren’t likely to take you seriously, even if they don’t dismiss you outright. If you show up as a leader and don’t do anything different than the norm, then the norm stays the same. When Jurgen Appelo appeared on Coaching for Leaders awhile back, he made this invitation: Be a little bit weird. If you’re playing the long-game, being a little weird today may open a door tomorrow. It’s a lot harder to dismiss someone who’s being just a little bit weird. As Seth Godin points out, “People like us, do things like this.” An individual who doesn’t quite fit in one wa...

They of course will discuss the recent trade for Jimmy Butler and his first three games with the Sixers. Does this truly put them over the top? Is there another move coming? Does the recent criticism of Ben Simmons lesson with the addition of Jimmy putting Ben back into the playmaker role rather than the scorer role? Episode 47 – Yes Part 11, Big Generator This episode is another lean Palaver where Ken and Joe consider the Yes album Big Generator. Ken provides a look into the outstanding prog context of 1987 (what a year!). Regardless of the greater Palaver’s feeling about this album, Big Generator was the group’s ultimate gateway to Yes, originally via Paul. While Tom provides some scathing criticism via text message, Ken ultimately feels that both Big Generator and 90125 met the goals for all stakeholders involved. Big Generator sees Trevor Rabin specifically trying to write Yes music and strangely enough may come closest in certain sections of the lengthy “I’m Running”. Jon Anderson’s increased influence on this lineup is felt very clearly in the “beautiful positivity” of the last three tracks. For episode 25, our guest is Tom Loeschner from GreyWood Design. GreyWood Design specializes in commission based furniture and some milling work. Tom provides a 'tree to table' service which is very popular with customers who love the concept of having a table crafted from the tree in their backyard.  Tom has a strong background in metal work which translates to his furniture pieces, almost all of which have metal bases. Tom used to live overseas in West Africa doing consulting in sustainable forestry practices and advising on the proper running of sawmills. This inspired Tom to create his own slabs back at home in the United States. While Tom's primary line of product has been live edge slabs, he is currently diversifying into metal and wood designs and expanding into different types of wood for his furniture making. Along with the much favored pine, Tom is producing items made from red and white fir trees and experimenting with textures and surfaces. Having a mill of his own allows Tom to control the process of furniture production straight to the customer without the need for outsourcing. It also allows Tom complete control over sizes and specifications and more room for bespoke designs requested by clients. Tom started with a Granberg chainsaw mill before moving up to a Wood-Mizer LT15 Wide sawmill and mobilizing it with a trailer.    Tom benefited from the Sawmill Business marketing course, it helped him realize the importance of putting time and effort into proper marketing of his business, something not all sawmill companies do but they really should in order to be successful. The current demand for sustainable and urban forest products and quality hand crafted goods is a golden opportunity that will bring good returns with commitment. Tom talks about some of the positive takeaways from joining up to the Sawmill Business course, how it gave him a thorough understanding of how marketing techniques from other facets of business can cross over into the sawmill industry. Tom continues to use the private forums set up as part of the course to ask questions to peers and build a value rich network. Other takeaways from this class include the inspiration for Tom to hire a photographer. Tom now understands how professional images of his work can boost sales through his Instagram and sending them to potential clients. Since taking the class, Tom has gone on to capture his biggest job to date, a large commercial order for 20 tables. He invested in a skid steer and GreyWood Design is now on the brink of being cash positive. A proper targeted campaign on Instagram is pushing up the followers and a steady network of Sawyers is growing by the day. Tom recommends the Sawmill Business course for sawyers who don't have a strong understanding of the digital realm. The clearly laid out worksheets and how to's that form the curriculum of the course offer a precise path to marketing a sawmill business effectively to generate real profit. Since 2011, numerous inmates at a local correctional facility have volunteered to help us with our prosthetic limb recycling program. I recently took a few hours to meet with some of the newer men working there, and listened to their journeys.  Once qualifying for this unique program hosted by Core-Civic (formerly known as Corrections Corporation of America.), these men disassemble used limbs donated from all over the country, in order to recycle all the usable parts (feet, pylons, knees, connectors, adapters, and even screws). Tom* serves as the current team leader in the shop.  His time there is nearly over and he feels ready to rebuild his life outside of prison.  In a powerful intersection of Standing With Hope’s prosthetic limb and caregiver outreaches, Tom shared about his wife, who was an amputee, and how he served as her caregiver for many years.  As you can imagine, his story connected with me. Several years ago, Tom’s wife’s health declined significantly and Tom’s own health deteriorated, as well.  He medicated his stress with substance abuse; taking him into dark places.  When she passed away, Tom spiraled out of control and made choices that landed him in prison. “Peter, the stress I felt as a caregiver took me down.  I simply couldn’t handle it,” he stated frankly. Clean and sober, Tom has a new outlook on life.  Sitting quietly in the shop, surrounded by a table full of prosthetics in various stages of deconstruction. Tom added, “While I don’t like being locked up, I am grateful I’m here.” “If I weren’t here, I’d have crawled into a bottle and would be dead today. I was that self-destructive.” A Prisoner ...and Yet When Tom arrived in prison, he heard about Standing With Hope’s limb recycling program, and knew it fit him perfectly. His release date is soon; one of his first tasks when he is out is to donate his wife’s prosthetic limb to our program. While Tom’s journey includes harsh experiences, he continues to face life with courage, along with a conviction that he is in a better place—even while in prison. Although incarcerated, Tom emanates a freedom that seems to elude so many who’ve never even seen the inside of a correctional facility. After praying together, I drove home from the prison with a sense of awe at the amazing, redemptive work of Christ—manifested in a workshop buried in the center of a prison. For the Lord hears the needy and does not despise his own people who are prisoners. Psalm 69:33 ESV Resin and Supplies Periodically, large amounts of acrylic resin with a harder (catalyst) require purchasing, in order for the technicians to make quality prosthetic sockets for each patient.  We recycle so many parts of a prosthetic legs, but we must purchase resin.    Not only do we have to purchase it, but we need to ship it, along with the parts we recycle. Because the resin is a hazardous material, it’s expensive to ship. The immediate need for purchasing and shipping the resin, along with the parts through our inmate recycling program:  $6,500 .  Click here to donate towards this expense. Our Mission Both the prosthetic limb outreach AND the radio show for caregivers, reflect our desire to model 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” *Permission was granted to use name, story, and photos

While no one is surprised by the end result, it was an interesting road getting them to where they need to be. The discussion we have circles around Epictetus (or Epic-Tardis if you're Darrell) and we look at how lessons in stoicism have been shaping each of the characters in the last few episodes for this penultimate episode of season 4. While Tom seems to be conflicted over his own commitment to the philosophy of Epictetus, his boys form the spectrum he is wavering on.
