Produced by Joseph Cottrell, Jeffrey Crecelius and Ken Fuller We were delighted to be able to speak to Jay Schellen this week about the upcoming Yes UK and Europe Tour and many other topics, particularly his relationship with the late, great Alan White. As you will hear, Jay's connections with Yes are numerous and he is a truly talented all-round musician, not 'just' a drummer. Stand by for surprising stories, tennis and visits to the pub... How did Jay find himself playing with so many Yes men? What did he learn from Alan White? What is it like playing with Downes, Howe, Davison and Sherwood? Let us know if you agree with us! Produced by Joseph Cottrell, Ken Fuller, Wayne Hall and Jeffrey Crecelius In a change to the advertised episode, Mark and I thought it was essential to give our thoughts on the new Yes single Cut From The Stars so most of this episode is devoted to the best new Yes music for many years. How does this new Yes music compare to The Quest? Does it sound progressive? Does it increase the anticipation for the new album? https://youtu.be/5WSqjH6mFhk YES announce new studio album ‘Mirror To The Sky' for release 19th May 2023; launch first single ‘Cut From The Stars' YES, who are Steve Howe, Geoff Downes, Jon Davison, Billy Sherwood & Jay Schellen, are pleased to announce their new studio album Mirror To The Sky on InsideOutMusic/Sony Music on the 19th May 2023. “This is a very important album for the band,” says Steve Howe, Yes' longest serving member, master guitarist, and producer of Mirror To The Sky. “We kept the continuity in the approach we established on The Quest, but we haven't repeated ourselves. That was the main thing. As Yes did in the seventies from one album to another, we're growing and moving forward. In later years, Yes often got going but then didn't do the next thing. This album is demonstrative of us growing, and building again.” For Yes, that “next thing” is a collection of high energy, intricate, lush and layered new studio songs for an album which adds to the band's much heralded legacy, while charting a path to exciting future times ahead. Today also sees the launch of the first track taken from the album. Magic Potion 04:08 As they were wrapping up The Quest, Yes found themselves with song sketches, structures, and ideas that were demanding attention. Yes received unconditional support from InsideOut boss Thomas Waber, who encouraged them to keep going in the studio, months before The Quest would even go on sale. It was like throwing gasoline on their creative fire. “When we delivered everything, and they were just getting the vinyl and everything into production for manufacturing, we were still very much in that creative zone,” explains Steve Howe. “That belief that Thomas had in us really meant a lot,” he says. “We truly get along as people,” says Jon Davison. “I feel like everyone's focused inward to the greater circle, concentric to the core of highest standards that define Yes. It's a wonderful thing to witness and of which to play a part. I believe this reflects vibrantly in the music and the creative input that each one is willing to apply, not for the benefit of the individual, but for the greater whole that is Yes.” “There was a lot of material floating around because the band hadn't done anything in the studio for so long. Ideas were just copious,” says bassist Billy Sherwood. “The pace of it was fast. As soon as we were finished with The Quest, and the mix had come out, we took a couple of little breaks there to catch our breath. But there was still music flowing around in the loop. It was just constantly being looked at and worked on. As we were all home and in that mode,

Also, Mark mentions what's coming up for Yes fans in this year's Record Store Day and more! What are your thoughts on the appointment of Jay Schellen? What do you think he will bring to Yes' writing? What would you like Yes to release for Record Store Day? 15th February 2023: YES are delighted to announce that drummer Jay Schellen has joined the band as a permanent member. Following the sad passing of our iconic drummer, Alan White on 26th May 2022, Jay will fulfil Alan's wishes in becoming the new drummer with YES. Jay Schellen was Alan White's choice to stand in during the Topographic Drama tour, in 2016, and shared drumming duties with him from 2018 onwards. Jay had previously played alongside YES' keyboardist Geoff Downes and late bassist Chris Squire together with long working relationships with Alan and YES bass guitarist Billy Sherwood. This gave Jay a deep insight into the workings of the dynamic rhythm section that drives YES' music. Steve Howe says “We're all delighted to welcome Jay officially into the fold! He's been a great support throughout the last seven years, and we couldn't have found a better all round team player.” “I am thrilled to become the new drummer with YES,” says Jay. “I grew up playing along to YES records and I am proud to have worked so closely with my musical hero and great friend Alan White these past few years. I will strive to honour his memory as we drive towards the future with the band.”Jay Schellen TormatoBook.com YMP Patrons: Producers: Joseph Cottrell Ken Fuller Jeffrey Crecelius and Wayne Hall Patrons: Aaron SteelmanDave OwenMark James LangPaul TomeiJoost MaglevDavid HeydenPaul WilsonMartin KjellbergBob MartilottaLindMichael O'ConnorWilliam HayesBrian SullivanDavid PannellLobate ScarpMiguel FalcãoChris BandiniDavid WatkinsonNeal KaforeyRachel HadawayCraig EstenesDemMark 'Zarkol' BaggsPaul HailesDoug CurranRobert NasirFergus CubbageScott ColomboFred BarringerDavidGeoff BailieSimon BarrowGeoffrey MasonStephen LambeGuy R DeRomeSteve DillHenrik AntonssonSteve PerryHogne Bø PettersenSteve RodeDeclan LogueSteve ScottTodd DudleyJimJamie McQuinnSteven RoehrJohn ParryKeith HoisingtonAlan BeggTerence SadlerJohn HoldenBarry GorskyMichael HanderhanTim StannardJon PicklesJohn ThomsonJohn CowanTony HandleyRobertGary BettsJim Morrison Facebook has changed how pages work which means that I've had to establish a new place for us to post and discuss Yes-related happenings. Produced by Ken Fuller, Wayne Hall and Jeffrey Crecelius What a week it's been in the world of Yes. Thanks to friend of the YMP Roie Avin, I managed to speak to Steve Howe about his new album with his late son Virgil, Lunar Mist as well as the US tour which began yesterday with a preview concert. (Don't worry, I managed to slip in a question about Tormato as well.) YMP Producer Ken Fuller went along to the dress rehearsal and I've added his photos from the event to the show notes for this week. The gig took place at Mickey's Black Box, part of long-time Yes collaborator Michael Tait's empire also known as the Rock Lititz campus in Philadelphia. In fact Michael introduced the band and spoke about his connections with Yes. (Incidentally he is now retired.) Also this week Doug Curran was at the wonderful Alan White tribute concert in Seattle which featured Trevor Rabin, Billy Sherwood, Jon Davison, Geoff Downes, Jay Schellen and a host of other stars. A truly moving event to remember a truly remarkable person. Add to all this the announcement of concert dates for Jon Anderson and the Band Geeks in 2023 complete with a great video of the whole band in action together. Actually I think it's a composite video using some clever remote recording but whatever the case, it all sounds fantastic. Fingers crossed they are able to visit the UK. How does Lunar Mist complement Nexus?Who decided what Tormato should be called? How is touring? Take a listen to the episode and then let us know what you think below!

Following the release of The Yes Album and Fragile, in 1971, YES released what is widely considered one of the most defining albums, not only for YES but for the whole progressive movement. Close to the Edge became an inspiration for their contemporaries and for successive generations of musicians. “We reached a real high, doing ‘Close to the Edge',” said Steve Howe. “We valued the musicianship, the artistic ideas and the vocalising that people bring and that's why we're still doing it, because it's exciting to do! ‘Close to the Edge' was voted the most-proggy album possibly ever made. It was very experimental. We had already done 10-minute epics but with ‘Close to the Edge' we just took it a stage further and I'm very pleased we were brave enough to do that.” YES 2022 UK Tour Dates Are: June 2022 15th June       Wednesday   Glasgow        Royal Concert Hall 17th June       Friday             Manchester   Bridgewater Hall 18th June       Saturday        Nottingham   Royal Concert Hall 20th June       Monday          Liverpool        Philharmonic Hall 21st June        Tuesday         London           Royal Albert Hall 22nd June       Thursday       York                Barbican 24th June       Friday             Birmingham   Symphony Hall 26th June       Sunday          Newcastle      O2 City Hall 28th June       Tuesday         Dublin Eire    Vicar Street 29th June       Wednesday   Cork Eire       Opera House Tickets remain valid for the rescheduled shows. We talk about what he would like the band to grow into and delve a little into his keyboard work with Geoff Downes and Tony Banks. It was a real pleasure to welcome Dave back onto the show. Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon in conjunction with The Jeremy White Podcast present Yes/Asia's Billy Sherwood. (Recorded February 2021) We discuss his new band Arc Of Life and much more. Press Release: ARC OF LIFE is a new progressive rock supergroup which features three members of the current YES line-up, vocalist Jon Davison bassist/vocalist Billy Sherwood, and drummer Jay Schellen. Completing the lineup is one of the most interesting talents in the “new” progressive rock scene in the US, Dave Kerzner (ex-Sound of Contact) on keyboards and Jimmy Haun (also featured on YES albums in the past) on guitars. Their self-titled debut album is slated for release on February 12, 2021. The concept behind the band is, in keeping with the progressive rock philosophy, to craft creative, challenging, and ear-pleasing music that pushes boundaries. The other idea behind the band is that YES would be a clear point of influence. But while YES is clearly the main influence, a lot of musical comparisons can be made to describe Arc Of Life’s grandiose and epic approach to music. But those descriptions are best left to the listeners to discern for themselves as repeat listens will reveal more layers. Arc Of Life is a true garden of delight for all progressive rock fans!     Help support the show. Produced by Jeffrey Crecelius, Wayne Hall, Preston Frazier and Bill Govier Trevor in rock mode Rabin-esque blog: http://rabinesque.blogspot.com/ This is going to be a really long episode so maybe you should listen in a few parts. There are several really important pieces of news about releases, some audio contributions, a special 2 pence about Arc of Life and a wonderful interview with Julie from the Rabin-esque blog about Trevor Rabin’s movie score-writing career and The Glimmer Man which was the first thing he did after leaving Yes in 1995. Wow. So unfortunately I will need to postpone the full round up of social webs until next week. Incidentally if you’ve ever wondered how to see the community posts on the YMP Facebook page, you just need to click on the community tab towards the top of the page. There’s lots on there to enjoy and, as I say, I’ll get back to all that next week. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Arc-Life/dp/B08NF334WL/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Arc%20of%20life&qid=1607095396&s=music&sr=1-1&pldnSite=1&fbclid=IwAR0Pu57j7o5Ec3IjXCgh8LgtqMX8LEHseZd0IjqFq-Dleo1Dwzh3zWcPDiw Frontiers Music Srl is excited to announce the release of ARC OF LIFE's self-titled debut album on February 12, 2021. Arc Of Life is a new progressive rock supergroup featuring three members of the current YES line-up, vocalist/guitarist Jon Davison, bassist/vocalist Billy Sherwood, and additional drummer Jay Schellen, one of the most interesting talents in the “new” progressive rock scene in the US, Dave Kerzner (Sound of Contact) on keyboards, and Jimmy Haun (also featured on YES albums in the past) on guitar. Fans can get their first taste of the band's forthcoming debut with the new single and video, 'You Make It Real'. Watch HERE:https://youtu.be/_84UCEDeEkc Pre-order/save "Arc Of Life" HERE: https://orcd.co/arcoflife The concept behind Arc of Life is, in keeping with the progressive rock philosophy, to craft creative, challenging, and ear-pleasing music that pushes boundaries.  Billy Sherwood describes the music as, “interesting, with well-crafted songs, performed with precision and grace. All songs feature memorable melodies and lyrics that take the listener on a sonic adventure. Dynamic arrangements with peaks and valleys... it's all there.” The other idea behind the band is that YES would be a clear point of influence. But while YES is clearly the main point of comparison, a lot of musical similarities can be drawn to describe Arc Of Life’s grandiose and epic approach to music.  In Jon Davison’s words, “Each YES member understands and supports when others may desire to explore and thrive along new artistic avenues. We then each find further inspiration to bring back to the YES fold.” But all the descriptions are best left to the listeners to discern for themselves as repeat listens will reveal more layers.  Arc Of Life is a true garden of delight for progressive rock fans and the band is looking forward to performing live. “Once the world gets over the COVID hump, Arc Of Life will be planning as much touring as we can fit in between YES and our other projects. Quite honestly, we’re all chomping at the bit to be out performing again!” concludes Jon Davison. Tracklist: 1. Life Has A Way2. Talking With Siri3. You Make It Real4. Until Further Notice5. Episode 44 – Asia Part 5 Aura, Silent Nation & Phoenix Joe continues his solo consideration of the Asia catalog, finishing up the John Payne era with Aura and Silent Nation before moving on to the rebirth of original Asia with Phoenix. Aura, always a Joe favorite, fares well over time and there is much in this album to appreciate. The long list of guest musicians provides depth and interest across the tracks. The songwriting is solid and interesting. And, of course, Aura contains what may be the best Asia track ever in “Free”. Simply phenomenal. The John Payne era of Asia finishes strong with Silent Nation. The fact that this album was recorded as a band is obvious upon listening and provides a warmer, more organic feel. Guthrie Govan is a consistent highlight on Silent Nation and Billy Sherwood and Jay Schellen arrive on the scene. Phoenix sees a significant shift back to the original lineup of Downes, Howe, Palmer and Wetton. As one might expect from such a reunion, there is a lot of energy in the performance and songwriting on Phoenix.
