NonCensored is a weekly round up of Harriet Langley-Swindon's very popular, very real daily radio show, completely non-Censored (but with all of the rubbish edited out). This week Harriet and Producer Martin were LIVE at the 2023 London Podcast Festival at King's Place, and they were joined by a brilliant panel - there was Sir Keir Starmer, who talked us through his recent reshuffle; Home Secretary Suella Braverman, who explained why she was going to lock up lawyers who sneak human rights to immigrants; and we were joined once again by the Reverend Gerry Berrie, from the Very Very Christian Church of England, who offered some Christian moral perspective and also advocated for the death penalty. Tickets to see us live! Again! We are recording another live episode at the Museum of Comedy in London on Wednesday the 18th October. Tickets are £10.50 and can be bought at https://museumofcomedy.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows/873639212. We are delighted to be able to announce that both Nadine Dorries and Jordan Petersen will be joining us, and Eshaan Akbar will be back from suspension. If you have a question for Nadine, Jordan or Eshaan then send them in to noncensoredpodcast@gmail.com. Even if we don't use them in the live show, we might use them for a future Time For Questions episode. Here it is, the Freelance Pod guide to the London Podcast Festival 2019, with programmer Zoë Jeyes! Zoë is Deputy MD and Comedy Programmer at Kings Place, and has been working there since it opened 11 years ago. Listen to the episode to find out the surprising places that Zoë listens to pods (she is *dedicated*), how to transform a good podcast from its oroginal audio form into a visual, interactive show and -- How has your industry moved from analogue to digital? It’s Episode 113! Zoe Jeyes (the home of podcasting Kings Place) and Helen O’Hara (Empire Magazine) return to Flixwatcher to discuss Zoe’s choice A Ghost Story. A Ghost Story is a sort of time travelling, supernatural love story of sorts. Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck are a nameless couple about to move house when tragedy strikes in the form of a car crash that kills Affleck. Following Mara’s visit to the hospital, Affleck becomes a ghost with a sheet over him. Unable to move on Affleck becomes trapped in the house they shared long after Mara leaves, terrorises a Spanish family and tries to retrieve a note left in a hole in the wall by Mara. That’s basically it, oh and Mara eats a pie. Scores [supsystic-tables id=118] A Ghost Story is either your cup of tea or your cup of rancid bog water - you’ll either love it, be massively frustrated or just bored by it. However, it is only an hour and a half so if you’re curious do give it the time. This mixed bag of feelings towards it ends up giving a score of 3.18 overall. the rankings). What do you guys think? It’s Episode 109! Helen O’Hara (Empire Magazine) and Zoe Jeyes (the home of podcasting Kings Place) join to Flixwatcher to discuss Helen’s choice Hearts Beat Loud. Hearts Beat Loud is a 2018 American comedy-drama with a stellar cast that includes Nick Offerman, Kiersey Clemons, Ted Danson, Sasha Lane, Blythe Danner and Toni Collette. Grumpy record store owner Offerman is facing the closure of his store and his only daughter living home for the university while also dealing with his mother's dementia and the on and off affections of his landlady but manages to also write an awesome pop tune with his daughter on the side. Hearts Beat Loud could be High Fidelity’s sweeter, less of dick, Spotify friendly sibling. It features some nice niche music moments including karaoke to Chairlift’s Bruises and up-selling of Animal Collective and that 90s nostalgia. Scores [supsystic-tables id=114] With a runtime of one hour and 37 mins it zips along in a breezy way and is a joy to spend time with. There was a LOT of love for Hearts Beat Loud, it even gets a five for recommendability from Kobi, giving it a very high 4.46 score overall (making the top ten in the rankings). In episode 43 Adam Buxton and Zoe Jeyes return to review Zoe’s choice The Squid and the Whale. The 2005 semi-autobiographical comedy-drama written and directed by Noah Baumbach with Wes Anderson producing. Now if that doesn’t float your boat you probably won’t enjoy this as much as Zoe and Helen! Set in Brooklyn in the late 80s it tells the story of two boys and their different reactions to their parent's divorce. Walt idolises their father Bernard who happens to be a total douchebag and Frank sides with his mother. Its a film about pretentiously over analysing things and features a memorable performance from Billy Baldwin (everyone’s second favorite Baldwin). Scores [supsystic-tables id='45'] At 81 mins runtime this film is a breeze and if you’re a fan of either Bumbag or Wes Anderson you should definitely watch this. Scoring a 4 overall from Flixwatcher and guests and 4 squids from Twitter we highly recommend it! What do you guys think? Have you seen The Squid and the Whale? What did you think? Hello from Episode 27! We’re joined by Dr Buckles himself Adam Buxton and Zoë Jeyes (producer of the London Podcast Festival) we review Adam’s choice the 2015 Netflix documentary What Happened Miss Simone? Where we and our guests also reveal our favourite music documentaries. The documentary combines previously unreleased archival footage and interviews with Simone's daughter and friends. While its a pretty standard documentary in terms of format, starting with her discovery and mentoring through to her early successes with I Loves You, Porgy and then her decline in the 1970s following her involvement in the civil rights movement. Scores [supsystic-tables id='29'] Scoring highly on recommendability but less so on the repeat viewing, overall it still scores a very respectable 3.8 (that’s really a 4!) If you’ve always liked Nina Simone, but don't really know much about her life or her lesser know songs - this is definitely for you. Filled with spellbinding performances, honest first-hand accounts the film charts the continuous problems and torment that seems to plague such talented artists without melodrama and cliches. Following the enormous success of the London Podcast Festival in 2016, we’re excited to launch a spin-off series of themed mini-festivals. This year, London Podcast Festival presents... focuses on Wrestling! Festival programmers Zoë Jeyes and Frazer Mclean share their enthusiasm for this popular form of 'sports entertainment' in a conversation with Ben Eshmade. On this week's show, Ed is joined by returning guest, and producer of the upcoming London Podcast Festival, Zoë Jeyes to talk about The Leftovers, HBO's wildly ambitious post-apocalyptic drama which recently aired its third and final season (so lots of SPOILERS ahead). In addition to tracking the way in which the show evolved from season to season, debating the meaning of the finale, and marveling at Justin Theroux's a̶b̶s̶ acting talent, they talk about London Podcast Festival Presents: Wrestling, a day devoted to podcasts celebrating the wonderful world of kayfabe. Apologies in advance for some of the audio issues in this episode. We tried to reduce them as much as possible. 00:00:00 - 00:04:23 - Intro/Ed & Zoë talk about the London Podcast Festival 00:04:24 - 00:57:50 - Ed & Zoë discuss The Leftovers 00:57:51 - 01:02:49 - SRS Recommends & Outro
This June, Kings Place launches The Politics Festival – a weekend of pro-politics talks, debates, discussions and plenty of politics-related entertainment. The Festival's producer Zoë Jeyes talks to journalists and political commentators Steve Richards and Ian Birrell about some of the big topics and speakers featured this year. 23 – 25 June kingsplace.co.uk/tpf
Somehow, it's been twenty years since Buffy the Vampire Slayer debuted on the WB, a humble start for a show which would go on to build a huge cult following and fundamentally alter fantasy and sci-fi storytelling on television. To help unpack this momentus occasion, Ed is joined by Zoë Jeyes and Ellie Graham to talk about the highs ("Hush", "The Zeppo", "Once More with Feeling") and lows (that weird sex episode) of the series, its continuing metaphorical richness, and the vagaries of BBC scheduling. 00:00:00 - 00:02:23 - Intro 00:02:24 - 00:59:21 - Ed, Ellie & Zoë discuss Buffy the Vampire Slayer 00:59:22 - 01:04:31 - SRS Recommends & Outro
The Academy Awards are mere days away, and Ed is joined by returning guest Zoë Jeyes to talk about this year's nominees: the surprises (both pleasant and not), snubs and frontrunners that comprise one of the most interesting slates in years. They also try to predict who will walk away with the big prizes on Sunday, something which seems easier than usual this year, which probably means they're totally wrong. 00:00:00 - 00:46:21 - Ed & Zoë discuss the Oscar nominees 00:46:22 - 01:16:18 - Oscar Predictions 01:16:19 - 01:21:11 - SRS Recommends & Outro
Last month, Ed made a flying visit back to England in order to attend the first annual London Podcast Festival at King's Place in London. He's joined by Zoë Jeyes, the Comedy Programmer for King's Place and producer of the festival, to discuss how the festival came together, the great shows they saw (including, but not limited to, Bullseye, Judge John Hodgman, The Moth and Little Atoms), and to extol the virtues of Hollywood Handbook, in a segment that will make almost no sense to anyone who hasn't listened to that show. 00:00:00 - 00:01:33 - Intro 00:01:34 - 00:49:16 - Ed & Zoë discuss the shows they saw at the festival 00:49:17 - 01:01:40 - SRS Recommends & Outro
