On this week's edition of the podcast we discuss the DP World Tour Q-School results and why Ireland seems to be struggling to produce players ready for Europe's top level after three successive years of no cards. The DP World Tour reaches its finale as Rory McIlroy chases a seventh Race to Dubai crown which would move him to within one of Collin Montgomerie's record eighth. Does the Race to Dubai still mean as much? And if so have we given Montgomerie's dominance enough credit given the depth of talent on the old European Tour. There are also card permutations on both sides of the Atlantic as Seamus Power resumes his quest to retain his PGA Tour playing rights as five Irish bid for Alps Tour status. Leona Maguire looks to secure her spot in the LPGA Tour season finale.

SHOW NOTESIn today's episode of the Talk Heathen, Katy Montgomerie and Student Doctor Ben amaze you with their switching of accents, knowledge of innate beliefs, genomes, what makes a person trans, the blind intelligent designer, and general purpose of the show. Vaclav from CZ describes a study claiming children have an innate belief in a prime mover that is one god. How do you get a control group for this with the children never having been taught anything prior? It is interesting that many societies have come up with some kind of god but there are huge differences between these gods. Many cultures also got to a flat earth model. If god were real, why would some cultures be given wrong information? Billy in TX presents the following syllogism: The genome contains algorithms and these algorithms require intelligence so therefore the genome requires intelligence. Where in this process do we obtain the code and how is this code processed? What is the difference between the most basic chemical reaction and DNA? Chemical reactions and almost everything could be described as algorithms. What forces are in play that cause DNA to follow a pattern? Calling the genome a code is an oversimplification. Otavio from France would like to know what makes people trans. If we do obtain this knowledge, where do we go from there? This can end up gatekeeping people, because if someone does not meet the criteria for trans, we may end up not giving them the support needed. There could be horrific results of obtaining this knowledge because there are a lot of people with power that are invested in creating a world without trans people. The important thing to remember is even if being LGBTQ were a free choice, it is still morally neutral. Tibor in NY wants to know what the purpose of the show is. We are not just debating the people who call in; there is a whole side show. Doctor Ben shares that he deconverted as a result of these shows. Working with all these topics can help give the audience develop critical thinking. We are also showing other atheists that we are here taking on callers head on. We provide a community to people who don't know any other atheists. There are people out there that support you. TYmm in WA calls to say that it seems like the intelligent designer is blind. If you are an all powerful being with infinite powers, why would you put together something as sloppy as a human? Adam and Eve could have been millipedes. Maybe there is a team of engineers designing humans with a committee that can't agree on anything. Thank you for tuning in this week and please remember our essential workers. For the question of the week, fill in the blank: I made a deal with the Devil, and all I got was______.

In today's episode of the Talk Heathen, Katy Montgomerie and Student Doctor Ben will discuss the Bible proving the Bible, atheism as a religion, why communities exist, the ethics of using charity to spread religion, and if historical Jesus is important. Bernard in NY is our first caller and has evidence of god's existence! The proof is that the Old Testament says it would be accepted and it was accepted. Does having people accept a text make it true? Could a person write something that is partially true and partially false? Is it possible that god is lying? Do you know everything about this god? How do we know god told Moses to write this? The caller creates the best circle we have ever seen by stating that the people must accept the text first. Malachi from AR perceives that atheists seem religious because it leans left like the religious community leans right. We agree the community should not have political leanings. In many countries, religion is not a driving force, but in others, it is a huge deal to come out as an atheist. When this happens, the community wants to support freedom of religion or lack thereof. Ben's family was more willing to accept coming out as trans then they were coming out as atheist. The caller goes on to say that both the gay community and the black community are preposterous. Communities prevent civil rights from being removed. Adding rights to these communities that other people already have, is not taking away any rights. Prasad in India says that charity is a good thing and asks why it matters if this charity is from a religious group. When the underlying motive is to convert, it is not fair to the recipients because it teaches people to rely on religion and authority to eat. This works for conversion and the religions know this. People who truly believe they are doing the right thing with good intentions can still cause harm. If schools are created that teach religion in a place that does not have schools, indoctrination happens.Last caller is Evan in CO who asks if the hosts believe Jesus is a historical figure. It does not matter because we don't accept that he did what the Bible says he did. Even if we accept this as a premise, we don't need to care about it. It is interesting to see how ancient people lived, however, it is unacceptable when religious people exclaim that morality has changed because it was a different time. Either it is made up garbage, or god is not moral, or objective morality has changed. Thank you for tuning in and watching us talk to callers who believe in circular reasoning! This is your community!

In today's episode of Talk Heathen, Katy Montgomerie and Johnny Angel will work through caller questions of Sharia Law, pronouns, god creating chaos, and judgemental atheists. First up is Brett in CA who describes a study in Islamic research that showed that 70% of moderate Muslims support Sharia Law. He is concerned about how many people believe it is okay to kill apostates or those who leave the religion. These findings are not surprising; we know that some of these places are not great for human rights. When anyone gives a number that is just percentages, it is easy to conceal the big picture. Progressive minded folks tend not to focus attention on Islam since it is not the dominant religion in the U.S. However, as humanists, we need to care about these things. Carlos in OK who askes about atheists that appear to be forcing their gay, transgender, and pronoun views on others. Katy explains that the pronoun thing is quite easy because you just address the person by what they request like you would their name. Sometimes when people get misgendered, they just want to make sure the person knows and move on. We don't know what a person has been through on a particular day or why they would react in different ways to an inadvertent misgendering. The trans person is not trying to force their beliefs on you, but just wanting to be treated like a person. Treat trans people with the respect they treat you with. What is the point in being disrespectful or impolite? Amanuel in TX says that maybe all religions have it correct since they all say similar things and when bad things happen, we can trace it back to God. What happens when religions make claims about each other? Can they all be right? Why is god not a monster for creating the laws of nature, Covid, and childhood cancer? Why is scripture the ultimate authority? If you choose not to take a risk, why are you not afraid of sparking the wrath of Allah? How do we know which scripture/religion is right and where to spend our time? How will one survive in heaven and not always be on pins and needles with the possibility of a Luciferian thought? Did god create non-believers with the purpose of not believing in order to burn in eternity? If god exists, why should we worship this immoral monster?David in CA says the atheist community is judgemental. People in the comments and live chat call him stupid. That is not cool, and we do not like this! People on the internet can be horrible, and that includes atheists. Atheists may be judgemental, but they are not uniquely judgemental or abusive. It is not judgemental if we ask you to bring something to the conversation other than giving us homework. Thank you everyone for tuning in! We will see you next week and try to be decent human beings!

In today's episode of Talk Heathen, we have Johnnie P. Angel and Katy Montgomerie join forces to destroy our greatest foe: Earth's yellow sun. Er, actually we're just talking to callers today, no sun destroying. First up! Stephen in WA asks how to talk with family that falls for the more sensational conservative talking points, like transgender panic. Typically people hate without knowing how others live or experience love, maybe introduce them to comedians or online personalities. You can educate and find common ground or just walk away, if necessary. Rick in Canada claims that Jesus predicted the current coronavirus. He quotes Matthew 24:15, “the abomination of desolation stand in the holy place”. This isn't the first pandemic, nor the worst, how does that verse predict Covid-19? You need to get way more specific in your predictions. Oh wow, now the emoticon “:)” in the KJV bible is proof of god? Our first Argument From Emoji!Kevin from NY argues that there is extra biblical evidence for the existence of Jesus, for example the apocrypha. How can we know if anything in an ancient book actually happened or if it's just a storybook? You can't assume miracles and the supernatural because of an old text. Sorry, a bible just doesn't work to prove anything divine. Jamie in TX asks how to tackle the argument that transgender folks need their own sports league. That might be a good idea to allow trans people to play sports without facing transphobia. Mandatory forced segregated leagues is a horrible idea, it's the same as a ban. We should try to let anyone compete, if possible. Thank you everyone for tuning in! Remember the essential workers and we will see you next week!

In today's episode of Talk Heathen, Katy Montgomerie and Secular Rarity will sort through callers as Katy drops us some fun lichen facts. First caller is D in DC who is wondering about the distinction between religion, deism, and theism when it comes to ecological circumstances. There could be a cultural practice linked with religion such as vegetarianism that can help. Having a ritualistic set of practices can have its benefits, but what happens if people decide to stop doing these things? Will ecologically beneficial religious practices be harmful in 1,000 years? Employ critical thinking to help guide that process. Next is Thomas in Canada who states that not having a belief in Jesus leads to murder. Do Christians murder and if so, were they just not real Christians? If we start throwing rules down on what makes an actual Christian, how many Christians will we have left? How does not knowing if you are going to heaven or hell have anything to do with your current state of belief? If someone isn't a Christian if they sin, and everyone sins, does that mean that no one is a Christian? This is a textbook No True Scotsman fallacy.Patrick in FL is curious about what Dawkins means by Pantheism being sexed-up atheism. When someone describes god as literally everything, it can be agreed that everything exists but to call it god is just a word game. With this definition, at the end of the day, god is indistinguishable from reality. How have you demonstrated to yourself that the universe is conscious? Even if you have, we would just have one new fact.Jasmine in Canada has some thoughts about atheists perceiving other atheists negatively. Some atheists will carry their arrogance to other domains just because they might be right about some things. Atheists can appear to be the only one that has a problem with something when in the minority, and there are also atheists that are just dickheads. Just being an atheist can put you in a position where you can't really live, while not affecting Christians. It does not matter what the label is and there is no sense in being worried where you land. It is okay to be apathetic and not care about what you call yourself. Tom in MI says that as a critical thinker, he uses Greek history as proof of the existence of gods. What is your definition of existing? Where does your god sit on this definition? What is the correspondence of ancient beliefs and the world we live in now? If people in the past thought something was real, does that make it real? We remain unconvinced of Zeus and Poseidon. Thank you for tuning into today's show, remember to thank the essential workers and turn us on next time for more of Katy's facts!

In today's episode of Talk Heathen, Student Doctor Ben is joined by Katy Mongomerie who will challenge creationists to refute crab facts and evolution, talk about trans brains, energy, and hateful atheists. First up is Humanist Reformation in OR who is going to use the bible to disprove the bible. God made some predictions and prophecies that never came true. Look at Matthew 23 and think through what, “this generation” means. If your religion has room for interpretation, how do you know that your version is the correct one?Eli in VA describes a link between the brain chemistry of trans people and the affirmed gender. He asks how this translates into cultures that don't hold the strict views of gender that we have here in the U.S. Gender identity is something that develops as a part of the brain or person very much the same way that left handedness does. Trans people are largely composed of nature parts, and it is more complicated than the binary brain model. Some of it is sexual bimorphism. With some parts of the brain you will find that trans men and women are like cis of the affirmed gender. We know that conversion therapy does not work even through torture and that the overlap between male and female brains is so tight that there is very little difference. This is still only 1% of what the hosts wanted to say. Rick from Canada defines energy as something that is all around us, comes in many different forms, is eternal, created the big bang, and that the only thing certain in the beginning was energy. We don't know if energy has always existed or was created by a divine being. An afterlife is a separate claim. Why should this concern us? Just because that energy exists, does not mean that there is awareness. Energy is the capacity to do work, not consciousness. We can detect energy, but how can we measure a soul? If energy cannot be created or destroyed, and if souls are energy, then where do the new souls come from? Why do we need to take the Bible's word for what a soul or energy is?Hayley in DE observed atheists being loud and hateful when she was growing up (particularly one person) and now views them as the cause of all sorts of discourse and rancor throughout history. Have you encountered enough atheists to know this? It is very easy to draw conclusions from patterns that we perceive to be there. Were these atheists already not nice people, or is it the atheism that caused them to be less kind? Sometimes you can see these same patterns in politics, sports, and other examples in our society. Try and make friends with an atheist, find common ground, and you will find that some of them are okay. Thank you for tuning in this week! Remember to check out our other shows and stay safe!

In today's episode of Talk Heathen we have Johnny P. Angel joined by the one and only Katy Montgomerie who will ask callers questions to make them think in addition to giving us some fun facts about the animal kingdom. Our first caller is Kyle in IL who argues that if there is no religion, we can end up having bad ideas, and productivity goes down. This is because his son made up a religion and has abandoned Christianity, and can't make money doing that. What is the difference between a 15 year old making up a religion and anyone else doing so? How do you determine which religion is the right one? We are not convinced that religion has anything to do with productivity. Is it necessary for a society to have a supernatural goal in order to succeed?Next is Ulrich in Mexico that wants to know how evolution results in being transgender.. Katy fires away with some examples in nature including an amazing crab fact. Often in meerkats, in order for the best survival of the genes, they need to work together. There are examples within the animal kingdom where the genes are not necessary to be passed on for survival. Gender identity is something that lots of animals have where the males and females act differently around each other. Some species often change sex such as clown fish. When this happens, the behavior changes happen first. 90% of all the sex that bonobos have is lesbian sex and this builds social bonds making them less likely to fight.Patrick in Fl asks why pantheism is laughable. He is exploring the possibility that the universe could be considered conscious and that it comes down to faith. He claims that atheists state that god does not exist. Just because we agree that the universe may have come from something, it does not mean that we believe in your god. Is there another reason we should believe other than faith? If a god exists, that god would know what it takes to convince us of that god's existence. If your god is a natural god, then you should be able to use science to prove it. Why do you believe that the universe is god if we do not have evidence for it?Joe from PA claims that the earth did not just come out of nowhere and there has to be a god. We could have three possible world views, one is god created the earth, another is that a spell was cast a day before you were born by a wizard named Gary, and a third is that planets collided. Of these possibilities, how do you go about determining the right one? Why does a child being born make you think that god exists? Why did god create humans where we need air to breathe?Last caller is Alok from CA that wants to know if being LGBTQ is a choice. All human behavior is a mixture of nature and nurture. In this case it is largely nature. There is evidence in every culture and all throughout history. We have evidence that conversion therapy does not work. If it was a choice, then they should be allowed to choose that. That is all for today heathens, thank you for tuning in and always stay safe!

Welcome to Talk Heathen! In light of Father's Day, who was the worst dad in the Bible? Abraham? Lot? Noah? Jephthah? How about Yahweh himself?First up is Davan in NE who argues the soul could potentially exist partly because of having out of body experiences, even though rationally he attributes these experiences to a dream. The idea of the soul as originally brought out by the texts is valid is his stance. How can any given experience be evidence for a soul if we know these things happen in the brain? Why would we use the “soul” label? Does the soul have some other component that is not part of the brain or body?Next is Teo from Croatia who wants to talk about the possibility of a heathen experiencing a Christian god. Would you agree that it is possible for people to imagine things that are logical and make sense? How do we tell the difference between experiencing a god and our imagination? Is it possible to believe things on faith that are not true? How do you know you have had an experience with a god and if it is true? Why should anybody believe that a god has manifested anywhere? Could your same reasoning prove a genie? If you can't prove something does not exist, does that mean you can prove that it does exist?Judy from IN has an insight that we are stardust because fluorine from another planet is connected to the fluoride in our body. Katy explains who things formed including large stars, nuclear fusion, and supernovas. Scientific claims need to be supported by evidence. Truth is valued differently in the scientific community than it is the Christian community. If we have a claim, we should be able to test that model.Tony in NY feels that atheism only works in the physical world and that money is a god that we worship. Does not believing in Santa Clause only work in the physical world? Money is real and has transactional value as currency. What is the evidence of there being a non-physical world? Why do you think that thoughts are not physical? What in money maps the claim that god exists? Is there anything that religion is essential for, and we could not achieve through secular means? As atheists, we are not saying religions do not exist. We are only saying it is possible to exist without religion.Chris in Scotland would like to know if it is possible to be moral without knowing how bad you can be. He wants to know if you can truly know the best without knowing the worst. Morals are not well defined. First caller is Ruth in CA who has a message for Christians: Get out of the way and let us be people. You are taking us back to the dark ages and are afraid of losing your evangelical followers. Kenneth reminds us that the incentive for elected officials is not always to do the right thing, but to take advantage of peop's rage against those who are different. Katy connects the dots between misogyny, the Bible, and the opposition to abortion. It is scary when people weaponize religion. Ruth finishes the call by thanking the hosts for providing an education for us.Dani in the UK asks Katy if it is easier to be trans in the UK than it is in the U.S. Katy informs us that most people are not wanting to take away trans rights and are not bigoted in the UK. She mentions that the U.S. has states with varying laws and attitudes regarding trans people. Even within states, things can vary and it is not even as simple as rural vs urban. Xeno from South Korea has scientific evidence for god. His evidence is mathematical and starts by asking the hosts to put a number on how much they know about the universe. Even if the hosts know virtually nothing, where is the evidence? Can we convict somebody of a crime by using evidence found with all the stuff that we don't know? Science is the best method we know of to explain what is true. If you have another way to show if something is true, then you need to demonstrate that. How do we know that a frog wizard with colors is not the something that was the beginning of your god?Special guest Clara, president of the UTSA Secular Student Alliance (SSA) in San Antonio is our last caller. She got involved with the SSA in 2016 by noticing the students with the table and attending meetings. She slowly learned more and has been president since 2019. This is an important group because there are over 25 religious groups on campus, but this is the only secular group. The SSA has been around since 2013 and is there to support non religious students when they need help getting out of religion. The best way to learn about the organization or support is through the website. Lots of guest speakers have visited such as Anthony Magnabosco who practiced street epistemology at the school for a number of years.

The discussion led to pondering the types of religious upbringing that can be considered child abuse such as conversion therapy, young earth, or women being inferior.Next is Forest in MA that would like to talk about bringing down the wall when communicating with religious people. He uses Philippians 4:8 as Hitchens suggests to assist with this process. If people are not wanting to know what is true, then they are not true Christians. Katie tends to not use verses when talking with Christians because they are open to interpretation. Genevieve has an approach where she will ask them if they want to make sure that what they believe is true when there are such high stakes involving eternity. She would like to see an inquisitive mind with what people believe.Billy in TX states that atheists don't argue against the existence of god well and just because the universe is hostile, and religious people are stupid, does not mean there is not a god. He never heard Christians say that god made the universe for them and says that most scientists will tell you that random mutation will not get us where we are now. He thinks that the hosts' responses are pointless and does not understand how mutations can be caused by the environment. He angrily wanted the hosts to prove what the majority of scientists believe. Should we contact every scientist and ask them? Why did god just not skip the whole heaven and hell thing and make the universe a giant playground? The two displayed patience as the caller got abusively belligerent with plenty of accusations and ad hominems. Billy, strength does not come from suffering, but it comes from what the hosts have shown you.Thank you for tuning in and we will see you next week for more fun with Heathens!

The old-school way to train someone for a task involves memorization, repetition, and practice, in order to make it like second nature. Not only is that time-consuming, but also, people aren’t very good at it. So why train, when AR makes it obsolete? Scope AR aims to help companies get out of old habits, and CEO Scott Montgomerie drops by to explain how. Alan: Today’s guest is Scott Montgomerie from Scope AR. Scott is the CEO and co-founder of Scope AR, a global leader in developing augmented reality solutions and products for industrial clients focused around field maintenance, manufacturing, and training. As the pioneer of utilizing AR for industry support and training, Scope AR are partnered with technology leaders such as Google and Microsoft. Since founding the company in 2011, Scott as one of the first executives to get augmented reality tools in use by multi-billion dollar corporations. Having launched many AR firsts, Scott has become one of the industry’s thought leaders and visionaries. He’s shared his knowledge and spoken about some of the most innovative uses of AR at several leading conferences, including South by Southwest, Augmented World Expo, Unity Vision Summit, and XRDC. Some of the clients include Unilever, Prince Castle and Lockheed Martin. To learn more about Scope AR, visit scopear.com. Scott, welcome to the show. Scott: Thanks a lot, Alan. Alan: Yeah man, I’m really super excited. We’ve been kind of chatting offline and it’s amazing, the work you guys are doing and you’re starting to really see this uptake of augmented reality being used in enterprise. Can you maybe give people a 10,000 foot view of Scope AR, what you’re doing, and who your clients are, and what they’re using it for? Scott: Yeah, sure. So we really view that augmented reality is a way of interacting with the world in a way that’s much more intuitive, the way that we evolved with our hands and our eyes. And so we really view that there’s a huge market central there. I think it was a stat out there that said that, 90 percent of Silicon Valley is focused on the worker that’s at their desk, using computers and screens. And there’s a vast market out there that is untapped, in these field workers that are using their hands and their eyes. And so if we can use augmented reality to get them the information they need, at the time of need, and really help them become an expert when they need to know that information. And like I said, we think that’s a huge market. So we really approach the problem in two different ways with our products. The first is a remote assistance capability. So we were the first to market with a product called Remote AR, we launched in 2015. So it was far before any of the other 30 companies that are out there today. The idea is that it allows you to communicate over video between a technician and an expert. So it’s almost like FaceTime. If you’re looking at a piece of equipment — maybe a car engine — you take your phone or a pair of smart glasses like a Hololens, and you can look at this piece of equipment and transfer this video back to somebody with expertise. And this expert can now draw on their side of the screen, and get a really good remote guide instructions. So the problem with something like FaceTime is that the communication channel is not wide enough to provide really good instructions. When was the last time you actually communicated with a mechanic over the phone or over FaceTime? There’s no chance. Alan: Never. Scott: Yeah, exactly. It would probably be very painful for him to guide you how to replace something simple like a spark plug. “It’s that one right there. No, to the left. No, no, the other le
