It's Friday, December 19th, and Norm is doing that thing where he calmly lays out the facts… while quietly setting the building on fire. After dumping Mike McCarthy for a 7–10 season (even with Dak missing half the year), the Cowboys hired Brian Schottenheimer and sold everyone the “new coach, new culture, new results” dream. Fast-forward to now: 6–7–1, which is basically the same meal served on a newer plate.Norm runs through the offseason shopping spree and the draft picks that actually look like real football players… then asks the obvious question: how are they still mediocre? Spoiler: it's hard to look at a defense giving up 30 points per game and not start writing farewell cards. Then we get to the main event: Matt Eberflus' countdown clock. Jerry Jones loves the offense (who wouldn't?) but hates the defense with the intensity of a man who knows the actuarial tables and is very aware the last NFC Championship appearance was… 30 years ago. After the Vikings game where J.J. McCarthy looked like Tom Brady (no sacks, career-best passer rating), Jerry goes public: he's “fine with the players,” but the system isn't working. Which is convenient, because if it's not the system… well… then it's the roster. And if it's the roster… who built it?Exactly. The Pentagon inspector general found the Army and Navy miscalculated the number of low-scoring recruits entering the military through their preparatory programs. The watchdog found the services used recruits' improved test scores instead of the scores they had when they first signed up. As a result, both services exceeded the legal limits of recruits with low test scores entering the program. The courses are designed to help recruits meet academic and physical standards before starting basic training. The services also failed to notify the Secretary of Defense and Congress that they had exceeded that limit, as required by law.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Jennifer Henry of Equifax sits down with Andrew Davidson, president of Andrew Davidson & Co. and a leading voice in mortgage analytics, to unpack one of the most misunderstood elements of housing finance: credit scores. They explore what a credit score actually measures, why different models and bureaus produce different results, how VantageScore's adoption could reshape risk evaluation, and what investors, lenders, and consumers need to know as the industry shifts toward new data sources and scoring frameworks. What is a credit score and what does it measure?A credit score is a model applied to a specific credit file to predict the likelihood that a borrower will become delinquent. It is based only on the data included in that credit file, not the consumer's entire financial life. Why do credit scores differ between bureaus or scoring companies?Scores vary because:Each bureau holds different underlying data.Scoring companies group data differently based on their models. The same borrower may fall into different “risk buckets” depending on how the model evaluates attributes (e.g., payment history, utilization, depth of file).Different models may both predict risk effectively yet categorize borrowers differently. How does adopting multiple scores (e.g., VantageScore + FICO) affect the industry?Having multiple accepted scores encourages deeper analysis of:How risk is grouped and measuredWhich score is most predictive for different loan typesHow investors calibrate pricing and performance expectationsThis shift pushes the industry to understand why scores differ, not just rely on a single number. How could alternatives to tri-merge (bi-merge or single file) impact lending decisions?Using fewer files may lower cost and streamline operations, but may reduce visibility into borrower behavior—especially for thin-file or non-traditional applicants. More data generally improves risk grouping. How does alternative data (e.g., utilities, telco, rental history) influence credit scoring?Alternative data helps:Create a more complete financial pictureSurface strong repayment behavior not shown on traditional trade linesImprove risk assessments for people with non-traditional income patterns or limited credit historyHowever, adding new data is not enough. Lenders and investors must also understand how that data influences models.Where can listeners learn more?Andrew Davidson & Co: ad-co.comFinancial Lifecycle Education (FiCycle): ficycle.org

Australia Dominates England in First Ashes Test Amidst Heat and Humidity: Colleague Jeremy Zakis reports that Australia has taken a commanding lead in the Ashes, scoring 511 runs to England's opening 334, attributing the English team's struggle to the harsh Australian environment ranging from 100-degree dry heat in Perth to tropical humidity in Brisbane, which fatigues players and alters ball aerodynamics; the Australian squad appears to be executing a strategic "long ball" game that England failed to anticipate, with an Australian victory in the next match in Melbourne set to secure the series win. 1937

Grammy-winning producer/composer Mark Batson (Dr. Dre, Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Eminem) and his longtime scoring partner Chris Hanebutt pull back the curtain on crafting the score for HBO Max's highly anticipated new series. We go deep on how dramatically the music business has morphed over the last 20 years: the collapse of traditional talent development, the rise of bedroom superstars, and the new (often brutal) rules for actually getting your music heard in 2025.Plus, Mark tells the wild, never-fully-told story of how a 19th-century musical theater tune (“If I Were a Rich Man” from Fiddler on the Roof) ended up mutated into Gwen Stefani's global smash “Rich Girl” in Dr. Dre's studio… and why Dre didn't originally want to pitch them demo. If you've ever wondered what it takes to go from Aftermath Entertainment to scoring prestige television while the entire industry burns down and rebuilds itself, this conversation is pure gold. Hit play – your playlist (and your perspective on the modern music game) will thank you.

Could It Be Magic, the FA Cup podcast sponsored by Carling, is back with another episode as Joe Cole and Ashley Cole welcome Lionesses legend Toni Duggan into the studio. They revisit Toni's two FA Cup triumphs with Everton and Man City, including the reaction she got from her teammates when she took to the pitch wearing fake eyelashes in 2010, and her memories of being controversially dropped for the 2017 final. They discuss Toni's time in Spain playing for Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, including her striking up an unlikely friendship with Lionel Messi, and some unintentionally hilarious struggles with speaking Spanish. Toni also opens up about the experience of having a baby while still playing for Everton, the support she got from the male players, and her journey back to playing just a few months after giving birth to her daughter. We also hear about Toni's experience playing at Soccer Aid last year where she scored past Edwin van de Sar and became best mates with Jermain Defoe and Tom Grennan, and how the experience has given Toni a taste for potentially stepping out of retirement. Ashley Cole reveals how he discovered his passion for coaching, Joe has tales from the set of Sunday Brunch, and all three of them take part in our version of a traditional pub quiz, which goes right down to the wire. The Houston Texans defeated the Colts 20-16 to improve their record to 7-5. Houston held the Colts offense to the fewest points they've scored all season, as quarterback C.J. Stroud returned on the other side of the ball. Stroud got off to a rusty start, but picked up steam midway through the second quarter. Meanwhile, the Texans defense regained their spot at the top of the scoring and overall defense rankings. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The lights were brighter, the stages were bigger, and yet the action felt thinner. We unpack a Grand Prix season that looked like a spectacle and too often fought like a glorified open, asking the question nobody wants to: who should actually be on these mats? When five-per-country invites meet a relentless calendar, you get watered-down brackets and athletes who can't peak, no matter how professional their camps are. We talk candidly about when elite athletes should sit, when prospects should chase reps, and why a world champion with nothing to prove still found herself cutting weight for zero upside. From Thailand's flat atmosphere to Waychamp's week-to-week personality shift, we dive into the mechanics that steer outcomes. Scoring felt stingy in China and suddenly hospitable in Bangkok; headgear recognition improved, but refereeing often disappeared, creating a rule vacuum where holding paid and punches didn't. Consistency shapes behavior, and right now the incentives are muddy. We also confront the explosive allegation of manipulated electronic socks—extra magnets, stronger pull, mismatched markings—and what it means for trust when technology can be gamed. If hardware decides points, hardware must be sacred, and consequences must be immediate. We challenge the logic of under-21 worlds as currently used. Development is essential, but it stops being development when seasoned senior medalists drop down to harvest hardware. Keep U21 as a proving ground and let seniors be seniors. On the U.S. front, we scrutinize selection procedures that close divisions while a global point reset looms, and argue for turning Pan Ams into a development lab when rankings won't carry over. Fund the pipeline, protect the podium, and read the calendar with courage. If Taekwondo wants sharper fights, clearer stakes, and real growth, it needs transparent rules, firm officiating, and smarter schedules—not just better graphics.Enjoy the episode? Follow, share with a teammate, and leave a review with your take: should under-21 worlds be a true development tier, and should Pan Ams be opened up when points reset? Your feedback shapes what we tackle next.
