Požehná plod tvojho života i plod tvojej pôdy, tvoje obilie, tvoj mušt i tvoj olej, mláďatá tvojho dobytka, prírastky tvojho stáda v krajine, ktorú pod prísahou sľúbil dať tvojim otcom. 14 Budeš požehnaný nad všetky národy. Nebude medzi vami neplodný muž ani neplodná žena a nebudete mať ani neplodné dobytča. 15 Hospodin odvráti od teba každú chorobu a nedopustí na teba nijakú z tých chorôb, ktoré si poznal v Egypte, no dopustí ich na všetkých, čo ťa nenávidia. 16 Pohltíš všetky národy, ktoré ti dá Hospodin, tvoj Boh. Tvoje oko sa nad nimi nezľutuje ani nebudeš slúžiť ich bohom, to by bolo pre teba osídlo.17 Možno si pomyslíš: ‚Tieto národy sú početnejšie než ja, ako by som ich mohol vyhnať?‘ 18 Neboj sa ich! Len sa dobre rozpamätaj na to, čo urobil Hospodin, tvoj Boh, faraónovi a celému Egyptu, 19 na veľké skúšky, ktoré si videl na vlastné oči, na znamenia a divy, na mocnú ruku a vystreté rameno, ktorými ťa viedol Hospodin, tvoj Boh. Tak urobí Hospodin, tvoj Boh, všetkým národom, ktorých sa obávaš. 20 Aj sršne pošle Hospodin, tvoj Boh na nich, kým nevyhynú tí, čo zostali a ukryli sa pred tebou. 21 Neľakaj sa ich, lebo uprostred teba je Hospodin, tvoj Boh, Boh veľký a hrozný. 22 Hospodin, tvoj Boh, postupne tieto národy pred tebou povyháňa. Nebudeš ich môcť rýchlo vyničiť, lebo by sa rozmnožila proti tebe divá zver. 23 No Hospodin, tvoj Boh, ti tie národy vydá a uvedie ich do veľkého zmätku, kým nebudú vyničené. 24 Ich kráľov ti vydá do rúk a vymažeš ich mená pod nebom. Nikto sa nepostaví proti tebe, kým ich nevyničíš. 25 Vyrezávané sošky ich bôžikov spáľte. Nezatúžiš po striebre ani po zlate, čo je na nich, ani si ho neber, aby sa ti to nestalo osídlom, lebo je to ohavnosť pred Hospodinom, tvojím Bohom. 26 Nedonesieš tieto ohavnosti do svojho domu, aby si neupadol do kliatby ako ony. Nech sa ti zošklivia a zhnusia, lebo sú prekliate. Požehnanie poslušných. Pán Boh dáva Svojmu ľudu výstrahu pred pohanským modlárstvom ešte predtým, než vstúpi na územie Kanaánu. Celá 17. kapitola predpovedá zápas, ktorý budú musieť viesť Izraelci pri obsadzovaní Kanaánu. Ťažko sa nám na stránkach Biblie čítajú slová o vojne. V situácii, kedy sú v mysli prítomné obrazy krvavého vojnového konfliktu na Ukrajine, či na tom istom území zasľúbenej krajiny, sú pre nás tieto slová vážnou etickou otázkou. Ak chápeme vojnu ako krutý prostriedok na dosiahnutie sebeckých arogantných ľudských cieľov, je ozaj ohavná a odsúdeniahodná na akomkoľvek mieste sveta v akomkoľvek čase. Avšak tu nejde len o ľudský príbeh. Nejde tu o krvilačnosť a chamtivosť Izraelcov, ktorí tu majú zabrať územie i jeho bohatstvo. Naopak, je tu daná výstraha nebrať si nič zo zlata ani striebra, čo Achán svojou krádežou porušil (Joz 7). Boj, ktorý sa tu povedie, bude Boží boj. Boh, ktorému patrí celý svet, v rámci Svojich plánov a zámerov túto časť sveta znovu dobyje. Krajina má byť vytrhnutá z rúk zhýralých modloslužobných Kanaáncov a má sa vrátiť Bohu. Tu má Izrael vytvoriť spoločenstvo, ktoré bude verné Božej spravodlivej vláde (aj Jeho súdu). Tu bude Izrael aj svedectvom pre iné národy podľa Božích zámerov. Nie je to ich ľudská vojna, je to Boží boj. Záleží však, či budú Bohu poslušní, alebo nie. A toto je otázkou aj pre nás: či v zápasoch, aké dnes Boh vedie medzi dobrom a zlom, sa pridáme na Božiu stranu. Poslušnosť bude požehnaná.
