This week two movies about young women and the lengths they will go to for love and connections.     Tammy is a cheerleader with a crush on football player Michael. When Michael is abducted by Tammy's violent and jealous ex-boyfriend he is left in a coma hovering between life and death. Meanwhile, Dr. Wachinstein is preparing his new creation to show for his investors. All the potentially mad doctor needs is a fresh brain. What twist of fate will bring these three together? Can love blossom between a girl and a 1000 lbs. robot dinosaur? One of the titans of good bad film discussion viewed in all its restored and bloody glory, Tammy and the T-Rex: Gore Cut.     Star is living with her sexually abusive father and taking care of two half-siblings. When she meets Jake, the top seller in a travelling sales crew, he offers her the chance to get away. Joining the crew, Star navigates her feelings toward Jake, his approach to selling, and the tangled web of relationships between the rest of the crew. The fourth feature from Andrea Arnold and featuring a powerhouse debut performance from Sasha Lane, American Honey.     All that and a small change of plans as next week we will be placing the brilliance of Nakadai on the shelf for a bit and instead diving into some Lynchian nightmares.  Episode 396- Dino Dixie String Bikini

Sarah McDowell (The SEO Mindset Podcast) and Natasha Willings (Limitless Learning education services) join Flixwatcher to review Sarah's choice How to Blow Up a Pipeline. How to Blow Up a Pipeline (2022) is action-thriller inspired by the book of the same name by Andreas Malm that explores ideas on climate activism and sabotage to create change. The film is directed by Daniel (Cam - do check out our Fixwatcher episode on this!) Goldhaber and stars relatively unknown actors Ariela Barer, Kristine Froseth, Lukas Gage, Forrest Goodluck, Sasha Lane, Jayme Lawson, Marcus Scribner, Jake Weary, and Irene Bedard.   The film version follows a fictional group of eight people who are brought together to blow up an oil pipeline at two key locations. Their motivations range from being directly affected by the actions of the oil company or to be climate activists. They all feel that non-disruptive action is not sufficient and are prepared to risk prison to carry out the plan.   Recommendability scores for How to Blow Up a Pipeline were pretty strong, everyone agreed it was an important subject and opened up interesting conversations on climate activism. Scores were lower for repeat viewing but due to its punchy runtime and fast moving narrative it scores a very respectable 3.51 overall. The movie event of the summer has arrived! We saw Twisters in 4DX with motion-seats, wind, spraying water, vibration, smoke, and strobe lights! On a packed discount night at the Regal North Hollywood, Twisters proved to be the perfect 4DX movie that rocked our worlds for two solid hours. After sharing our recently rediscovered love for Jan de Bont's Twister (1996), we headed into the Pepsi 4DX with large Pepsis in hand. From the opening tornado scene, we knew we were in trouble. Twisters is directed by Lee Isaac Chung and stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, and Sasha Lane. Deadpool & Wolverine unfortunately kicked Twisters out of 4DX, but if you somehow get a chance to see it in 4DX, DO IT! And if you feel it, chase it! We got twins!!

This week, it wouldn't be the final episode of July if we weren't talking about a huge new theatrical release, but we're doing it a bit differently this time around as for the very first time (officially anyway) we review two movies at the same time! July's canon consideration is 1996's Twister, directed by Jan de Bont and starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Jami Gertz, Cary Elwes, Lois Smith, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Alan Ruck, Todd Field, Joey Slotnick, Jeremy Davies and Zach Grenier, but we spend just as much if not more time discussing 2024's Twisters, directed Lee Isaac Chung and starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, Katy O'Brian, Kiernan Shipka, David Corenswet and Paul Scheer. And we're joined to discuss both by returning favourite / girlfriend of the show Ashley Olson, a self-confessed "weather girlie" for whom the original film has been a lifelong fave. It's a delightful chat as two prairie girls roast an ignorant city boy for knowing nothing about storm tracking. If you'd like to watch the films before listening along to our conversation, Twister is currently streaming on Crave and Starz in Canada at the time of publication, while Twisters can be found in theaters everywhere. Oh, you thought we would be discussing other works this week as well? Well, we're not. Two movies is more than enough, you sickos. We'll be back next week to kick off P.T.August, a month-long celebration of the works of Paul Thomas Anderson, beginning with 2012's The Master, a movie J Mo's been hauling around on Blu-ray for 11 years without ever having watched it. That all changes next Friday! So come on back now, as the rest of our PTA slate includes Phantom Thread, Inherent Vice, Licorice Pizza and concludes with our August canon entry Boogie Nights. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

In 1996, a summer blockbuster movie blew into theaters and knocked everybody off their feet. That movie was “Twister” and starred Helen Hunt and the late, great Bill Paxton. Now 28 years later, we get a long awaited follow-up to that tornado-terrific, earth-moving box office hit, called “Twisters.” Now instead of Bill Paxton, the rapidly rising star Glen Powell tries to fill his boots. He plays Tyler, who calls himself a tornado wrangler who likes to go viral and peddle his merch. One of his phrases, as he tries to entertain his fans, is “You don't face your fears. You ride em'!” We also have Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate, who was a storm chaser until tragedy struck, and so now she stays out of the field. Just so the plot can move forward, she's coaxed back out into the wild, windy west to help some other storm chasers potentially save lives from a mass of tornadoes. All these characters bring their impressive and intricate modern day technology to this world of tornadoes, but no amount of tech will save you from the deadly, disastrously massive force of a tornado and the debris that it turns into lethal projectiles. Will Tyler take it too far in finding that rush? Can Kate do anything to give the people in the path of these fatal forces of nature a chance? Is it worth finding out? Check out this episode to find out! “Twisters” also stars Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sasha Lane, Daryl McCormack, Kiernan Shipka, Nik Dodani, David Corenswet, Tunde Adebimpe, Katy O'Brian, David Born, Paul Scheer, Laura Poe, Austin Bullock and Stephen Oyoung. Support the Show.Feel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

Hey everyone, Twisters - the "sequel" to one of the quintessential summer blockbusters of all-time, Twister - has hit theaters... a week early here! This is a film that I was heavily anticipating because the first film is a blast, the trailers looked fun and it was being directed by Lee Isaac Chung, who directed Minari. Oh, and I love the cast. I was really hoping this would be a classic throwback summer blockbuster but the question is, does it deliver on that hope? Find out in this review! Twisters: Directed by: Lee Isaac Chung Screenplay by: Mark L. Smith Story by: Joseph Kosinski Based on Characters Created by: Michael Crichton, Anne-Marie Martin Produced by: Frank Marshall, Patrick Crowley Executive Producers: Steven Spielberg, Thomas Hayslip, Ashley Jay Sandberg Music by: Benjamin Wallfisch Cinematography by: Dan Mindel Editing by: Terilyn A. This is week my guest is Desiree Akhavan!  Desiree's first feature film was 2014's APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR, in which she also starred. It came off the back of a web series she made in 2010 called The Slope, with fellow NYU postgrad film student Ingrid Jungermann. After Appropriate Behaviour, Desiree had a guest spot on the TV show Girls, and also began adapting the book THE MISEDUCATION OF CAMERON POST, alongside her co-writer and producer Cecilia Frugiuele. The film, which Desiree also directed, would star Chloe Grace Moretz and Sasha Lane and went on to win the Sundance Dramatic Grand Jury Prize in 2018.  Around the same time, Desiree also created, wrote and directed a brilliant 6-part TV show for Channel 4 called THE BISEXUAL, starring Maxine Peake, Brian Gleeson, Naomi Ackie and Desiree herself and all set in London.  Since 2018 Desiree has been working on a very personal project which we talk about, as well directing episodes of many brilliant TV shows, including RAMY, HACKS and TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS.  We talk about a lot, and if you've ever read an interview with Desiree you know she's very good at cutting through the bullshit and this is no exception. We dig into how the past five years have seen her working at a different pace and why that is, we talk about the moments after success and the expectations that were placed on her career, we talk about what it actually means or requires to direct an episode of TV, finding a soulmate in her creative partner Cecilia and why learning and having fun is at the centre of everything she does…

“Loki, the series takes place after the events of the film Avengers: Endgame (2019), in which an alternate version of Loki created a new timeline. Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Loki from the film series, starring alongside Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Tara Strong, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Jonathan Majors, and Neil Ellice. Sasha Lane, Jack Veal, DeObia Oparei, and Richard E. Grant also star in the first season, with Rafael Casal, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Ke Huy Quan and Richard Dixon joining for the second. After stealing the Tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), an alternate version of Loki is brought to the mysterious Time Variance Authority (TVA), a bureaucratic organization that exists outside of time and space and monitors the timeline. They give Loki a choice: face being erased from existence due to being a "time-variant", or help fix the timeline and stop a greater threat. Loki ends up in his own crime thriller, traveling through time,[2][3][4] hunting a female version of himself named Sylvie.[5] After the first season ends with the timeline breaking and the creation of a multiverse,[6] the second season shows Loki teaming up with Mobius M. Mobius, Hunter B-15, and other TVA agents "in a battle for the soul" of the TVA. This includes a search through the multiverse for Sylvie, Ravonna Renslayer, and Miss Minutes.”  - Factually Exclaims wikipedia.org “R.I.P old Loki, god of mischief... We'll miss you! That moment when two good actors can create interest for a weak series, but the story is boring and uninteresting... A lot of bad writing... Time travel + multiverse is recipe for disaster.”  - Types Draec M. - rottentomatoes.com "Sadly, reports on the other four episodes of the series contend that Disney plans to use the shapeshifting abilities of Loki to explore ideas of “gender fluidity,” an unbiblical concept invented by leftist activists to destroy the Christian, biblical, moral heritage of Western Civilization. Reports also say that the LOKI series may have some subplots leading into the next occult Doctor Strange movie, to be released in 2022, which is reportedly about an adventure having to do with some of the multiverse ideas being introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe by the creators of LOKI."  - Proselytizes movieguide.org “loki often "timeslips" which stretches and distorts his body/features before he disappears. can be very offputting sometimes”   - Warns Delphill - doesthedogdie.com Get inspired by our  Top Ten time travel movie lists Check out @time_pop_pod on Instagram, Twitter, & TikTok Please Like, Subscribe, and tell a friend about Time Pop. What's up bombers! Welcome back to your regularly scheduled Not A Bomb podcast. This is the podcast where we go back and reexamine films that either bombed financially or were panned critically…or in this case, both! We welcome Sammy back, our good friend from the GGTMC, to discuss 2019's comic book adaption - Hellboy (2019). The project began as a follow up to Hellboy II: The Golden Army from 2008. However, Guillermo del Toro was not offered the opportunity to direct the third film and Ron Perlman decided to leave the project. The studio had no choice but to find a new director and attempt a reboot of the franchise. The gang discusses comic book collecting, Milla Jovovich acting…or lack thereof, fart rock, the behind-the-scenes feud between the director and producer, Neil Marshall's filmography, and eating Domino's pizza. Also, please forgive the podcast for one of the worst Bill Cosby impressions ever. We shouldn't even call it an impression…it's more like a verbal seizure combined with a bad joke.TimestampsIntro - (1:43)Comic Book Discussion - (3:36)Box Office Results and Critical Response - (16:43)Movie Guide Review - (22:07)Behind the Camera - (25:04)In Front of the Camera - (38:25)Production and Development - (53:25)Hellboy Discussion - (59:20)Is it a Bomb? - (106:42)Listener Feedback - (111:55)Outro - Optimism by Weird Heat - (123:42)Hellboy (2019) is directed by Neil Marshall and stars David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Daniel Dae Kim, and Thomas Haden Church. If you want to leave feedback or suggest a movie bomb, please drop us a line at NotABombPod@gmail.com.
