In the one-hundred-and-sixty-sixth episode, we explore the Truth Rejection Fallacy, starting with Trump saying he's smart for not paying taxes, his history of buying political influence qualifies him to drain the swamp, and that his birtherism conspiracy theory peddling actually helped Obama. In Mark's British Politics Corner we look at Liz Truss claiming her disastrous mini budget was actually a triumph of anti-orthodox behavior, Nadine Dorries reframing Partygate as focusing on the vaccine, Angela Rayner claiming an election loss was basically a win, and a Tory party member claiming Rishi is so great because he's so rich.In the Fallacy in the Wild section, we check out examples from Futurama, Annie Hall, Better Call Saul.Jim and Mark go head to head in Fake News, the game in which Mark has to guess which one of three Trump quotes Jim made up.Then we talk about Trump's plans for inauguration day and how it's gone so far.And finally, we round up some of the other crazy Trump stories from the past week. The full show notes for this episode can be found at https://fallacioustrump.com/ft166 You can contact the guys at pod@fallacioustrump.com, on BlueSky @FallaciousTrump, Discord at fallacioustrump.com/discord or facebook at facebook.com/groups/fallacioustrumpCreate your podcast today! #madeonzencastrSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/fallacious-trump/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Well, this episode dives straight in with a bit of sex scandal. Nadine Dorries has lifted the lid on what she witnessed during her time in government and much of it was rather ‘cheeky' to say the least. What other workplace has a group WhatsApp for planning naked sessions in offices? Dorries is horrified. She was then too, apparently, but also wasn't selling a book, which she is now. Then the Trawl ladies discuss the arrest warrant which has been put out by the ICC for Netanyahu and Gallant. They feature some very powerful clips and hear why holocaust survivors are in favour of it and why calling it anti semitic is a hollow untruth. How have other countries reacted? Where does the reaction from the US leave us? And does Biden's negotiation with Lebanon mean Gaza has been pushed further down the agenda or not?And then, the complicated Musk family tree. It reads like an excerpt from Woman's Weekly! Enjoy! A close ally of Boris Johnson and open critic of Rishi Sunak and Kemi Badenoch, Nadine Dorries examines the current state of the Conservative Party in this week's episode of the Political Fourcast - and she also criticises the Church of England in the wake of the John Smyth scandal. Warning: This episode contains content that some viewers might find upsetting.   Mrs Dorries says she was abused as a child by a vicar. A Church of England spokesperson said: “We are truly sorry for the childhood abuse suffered by Nadine Dorries.  “We can confirm that the National Safeguarding Team has been in ongoing contact with her following her brave disclosure of this abuse by an Anglican vicar, now deceased.  “We have offered support and have left open the offer to speak further if she wants to do so. We are sorry that when the matter first came to the Church's attention in 2015 that she did not experience the response she should have received.” The Conservative Party was approached for comment.   Produced by Silvia Maresca, Calum Fraser, Ka Yee Mak, Rob Thomson.

Rishi Sunak seems to be facing his own 'plot'. But unlike in Nadine Dorries' now infamous book, it's not a secret cabal orchestrated by Dougie Smith hoping to depose him, but a mysterious rebel group, backed by Tory donors, who have been funding the polling we've seen in the Telegraph recently. The news today is that they have added Will Dry – Rishi Sunak's former pollster – to their ranks. Is this plot a serious and organised threat to Rishi's premiership? James Heale speaks to Katy Balls and Paul Goodman, editor of Conservative Home.  Produced by Oscar Edmondson.

In the last podcast of 2023, we give our initial reaction to the Scottish Budget. How will the much trumpeted 1.5 billion pound "blackhole" be filled?Baroness Michele Mone and her husband Douglas Barrowman appeared on the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme, Baroness Mone conceded she will benefit from the profits made by PPE Medpro, which is led by her husband. She also admitted she repeatedly lied about her non-involvement with the company. Will she be used as a lightning rod by the Tories to divert attention from the bigger scandal of cronyism at the heart of the UK government response to the Covid crisis? Will she spill the beans? And how did Kuenssberg handle the interview? Nadine Dorries, remember her, has made accusations that Sir Robbie Gibb, one of the non-exec directors on the BBC Board who is responsible for upholding and protecting its independence, sought to influence the appointment of the Head of Ofcom.Speaking at an event in Italy, Rishi Sunak said "enemies" could use immigration as a "weapon" by "deliberately driving people to our shores to try to destabilise our society". and hinted at the need to change international law on immigration, telling the crowd at Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's Atreju political festival: "If we do not tackle this problem, the numbers will only grow. "It will overwhelm our countries and our capacity to help those who actually need our help the most.Have far right policies become so embedded in the Conservative Party that the UK Prime Minister can address a far-right convention and talk of shared values? With yet more horror stories emerging from Gaza how long can the international community, yes you the USA and UK, stay silent on an immediate ceasefire? We asked you to get in touch with your experiences of Curriculum for Excellence and Lesley goes through some of your replies. We also look back at our favourite things from 2023. ★ Support this podcast ★

The Amish Inquisition Podcast

This week we welcome back author and historian Ralph Ellis to explore the connections between Jesus, Josephus and King Abgar V of Edessa. Ralph has toured the Mediterranean for more than three decades searching for secular similarities and parallels between the apparently disparate disciplines of history and theology. Why are so many of the famous biblical characters missing from the historical record? Does this biblical lacuna mean that both the Old and New Testaments are fictional, as many people have claimed? Or are we simply looking in the wrong locations or perhaps even the wrong eras?   Strap yourselves in for a revision of biblical history that pulls no punches and is not for the faint-hearted.   For more information on Ralph's work, follow these links:   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ralph.ellis.144  Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/c/RalphEllis/videos The Egyptian Testament Series https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0753FWD9D The King Jesus Trilogy (in five parts) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09Q3H8H84 Shards of Illumination Trilogy (in one part) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B65PWKZ1 Website: www.edfu-books.com   #RalphEllis  #kingabgar #althistory   From the web: Ralph Ellis has a very controversial and unconventional theory about the historical Jesus. He claims that Jesus was not a poor carpenter from Nazareth, but a wealthy and powerful king of Edessa, a city-state in northern Syria. He also claims that Jesus was a descendant of the Egyptian pharaohs, through his mother Mary, who was related to Cleopatra. He bases his theory on the writings of Josephus, a Jewish historian who lived in the first century CE, and other ancient sources. He also compares the biblical accounts of Jesus with the historical records of King Izas Manu of Edessa, who led a revolt against the Roman Empire and was crucified by the governor of Syria. According to Ellis, Jesus had a dual identity: he was both the Messiah of the Jews and the King of Edessa. He had a claim to the throne of Judaea, as a descendant of King David, and also to the throne of Rome, as a relative of Julius Caesar and Augustus. He tried to fulfil the prophecies of the Old Testament by liberating the Jews from the Roman occupation, but he failed and was captured and sentenced to death. However, Ellis argues that Jesus did not die on the cross, but was rescued by his followers and taken to Britain, where he became known as King Arthur and founded the Knights of the Round Table. He also claims that the Holy Grail was not a cup, but a royal bloodline that traced back to Jesus and his wife Mary Magdalene, who was a princess of Orange. Ellis's theory is very radical and contradicts the mainstream views of historians and theologians. He challenges the authenticity and reliability of the New Testament, and accuses the Church of suppressing and altering the original evidence. He also proposes that the Apostle Paul and Josephus were the same person, and that they created a fictional version of Jesus to pacify the Jewish rebels and promote a peaceful and submissive form of Christianity. He also suggests that the King Arthur legend was misdated and misplaced by mediaeval writers, and that it actually referred to the historical Jesus and his followers in Britain.    ____________________________________________________________________ Follow us here: https://allmylinks.com/the-amish-inquisition Signup for the newsletter, join the community, follow us online, and most importantly share links!  ____________________________________________________________________   Producer Credits for Ep 306: Martin Young, Rhona Kesson, Helen, Aliyah, Emma Bridges, Ziggy Dan and Chris from Sheep Farm ____________________________________________________________________ Leave us a voicemail: 07562245894 Message us here....follow, like, subscribe and share. An unidentified Conservative MP has been accused of rape by several women. These allegations are mentioned in a new book by former cabinet secretary Nadine Dorries. It comes after reports the Conservative party's former chairman, Sir Jake Berry, wrote to the police to make them aware of the claims after leaving the post last year. The deputy Prime Minister, Oliver Dowden, has denied a cover-up by the party when he was the chairman. Emma Barnett hears the reaction of Isabel Hardman, Assistant Editor at The Spectator, and Conservative MP Caroline Nokes, Chair of the Women and Equalities Committee. A group of mothers under the umbrella of Just Stop Oil are planning a slow march to demand an end to new oil and gas licences and to call for a secure liveable future for their children. Just Stop Oil's tactics around the country, from blocking roads to halting theatre productions, are controversial. Emma is joined by two of the protesting mums. When con woman Melissa Caddick vanished from her luxurious eastern Sydney home in November 2020 - with only her partially decomposed foot found washed up on a beach months later, it set off a frenzy in Australia. Regulators suspect the 49-year-old stole nearly £16m from more than 60 clients, including many of her family and friends, to help fund a lavish lifestyle. Chief investigative reporter at the Sydney Morning Herald, Kate McClymont, joins Emma to discuss. We hear about a development in the case of Agnes Wanjiru, a 21-year-old Kenyan woman who was found stabbed to death at a hotel in the garrison town of Nanyuki in 2012. Witnesses said she was last seen leaving the hotel bar with a British soldier, and her body was found in a septic tank at the hotel nearly three months later. A Kenyan judge concluded after an inquest in 2019 that she had been murdered by one or two British soldiers. As yet, nobody has been convicted. Kenyan police have now flown to the UK to question British soldiers and officers about the case. Emma speaks to Sunday Times journalist Hannah Al-Othman. Sarah Whalley is the producer and director of Forests, an episode of Planet Earth III. She was pregnant during filming and chose to name her child Forest. Sarah talks to Emma about how the isolation of her pregnancy during lockdown was mirrored when they filmed a Hornbill bird in its nest for the first time.
