Do Starmer and co know what they mean by ‘change' and ‘reform'?

Labour was elected to deliver ‘change' but Starmer, Reeves and Morgan McSweeney have been cautious and vague about their ambition to move on from the recent past. Instead Labour communications use the term ‘reform' as if it were a policy in itself. Now Labour faces the Reform Party, the Greens, the SNP and Lib Dems, all pitching bolder versions of change. Yet in government Labour is trapped by fiscal rules, the power of the Office for Budget Responsibility and a lack of clarity and coherence at the top. Can Starmer become a clear-sighted political teacher? • Rock'n'Roll Politics is live at Kings Place this Thursday, May 8th. There is a big UK/EU summit in May which ministers are confident will be a significant event – and not just a talking shop. Meanwhile Rachel Reeves has dared to state the obvious – that a deal with the EU is the biggest prize for the British government, as Trump oscillates wildly. Are these signs that a government so fearful of raising Brexit is beginning to turn towards Europe? And what would be the consequences?  Rock & Roll Politics is live at Kings Place on May 8th and streaming live, just days after the local elections and the Runcorn by-election. A new landscape? Labour's election guru, a modern-day Macchiavelli, the power behind the PM, a “permanent insurgent”… Starmer's Chief Of Staff Morgan McSweeney is perhaps the most powerful unelected person in politics. For decades nationalisation was the great taboo in British politics, while privatisation was deemed the great triumph of Thatcherism. Blair and Brown were opposed to any attempt to renationalise – but now there is cross party support for the nationalisation of British Steel, the railways are being renationalised and there is huge support for the government to take over water companies. The most controversial night in ECW history happened on the October 29th, 1996 episode of Hardcore TV. Coming from ECW High Incident 1996, this episode features one of the biggest and maybe worst moments of all time. Not only that, but Kurt Angle makes his one and only ECW appearance. This was before he was even a pro wrestler. ECW was trying to get him to join the company so they had him make an in-ring appearance and then do commentary for Taz vs Little Guido. After that it looked like Kurt was going to have a program with Taz. That was until the incident happened. After The Sandman successfully defended his title against 2 Cold Scorpio, Raven returned from injury. It looked as if the Sandman's son was going to join back with his dad; he previously left to join Raven. However, Raven surprised everyone and hit Sandman with a Singapore cane! That is where the episode leaves us. In reality, that was not the end. Raven, Steve Richards, and The Blue Meanie, brought out a cross and crucified a bloody and battered Sandman! They hoisted him up and put a barbed wire “crown of thorns" on his head! This moment was so controversial that ECW couldn't air it or Kurt Angle would sue them! He never made another appearance for ECW again. All this and more from ECW High Incident.
