HR3 - Consistency and want to will be key to James Pearce Jr. reaching his potential In hour three Mike Johnson, Beau Morgan, and Ali Mac let listeners talk about which Falcons' rookie they think has the best chance to start, if their mom or dad has ever overstepped their boundaries as a parent, and if they think 100 men could take down one gorilla in the Wake Up Call! Mike Johnson, Beau Morgan, and Ali Mac also explain why Falcons fans shouldn't be complaining because they drafted Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. instead of Marshall edge rusher Mike Green, continue to recap and react to the Atlanta Braves beating the Colorado Rockies 8-2 last night and winning their fourth straight series thanks to Michael Harris II driving in three runs, the bats staying hot, and A.J Smith-Shawver having a good start last night as well. The Morning Shift crew also talks about how the Braves are nearly back to .500 because their offense has become consistent, and then dives into the life of Beau “Squidbilly” Morgan in The Life of Squid! Finally, Ali, Mike, and Beau close out this Wednesday edition of The Morning Shift by spending some time with lead draft writer for NFL Media Eric Edholm! Ali, Mike, Beau, and Eric discuss why Eric wasn't a fan of the Falcons trading up for James Pearce Jr., why Eric thinks Jalon Walker fell to 15 to the Falcons, what Eric thinks has to happen for the Falcons to be competitive this season, if Eric thinks Kirk Cousins will be on the Falcons' roster come week one of the season, what Eric thought about Shedeur Sanders falling in the draft, how Eric thinks the battle between Shedeur and Dillon Gabriel will pan out, and if there are any situations that Eric thinks any of this year's rookie quarterbacks will thrive in.

Abe, Mike, Beau, and Marc discuss if Marc thinks there's going to be any surprises in the NFL Draft this year, how Marc feels about Marshall Edge rusher Mike Green as an NFL edge rusher, if Marc thinks a great defensive back can have just as much or a greater impact on a defense as a good pass rusher can, which pass rushers will provide good value as second round picks, how Marc feels about Shedeur Sanders as an NFL quarterback, if there's a quarterback that's not being talked about enough that could be a diamond in the rough, if Marc ever let public and fan perception dictate or influence draft picks when he was a player evaluator in the NFL, and how much general managers, player evaluators, and scouts take stats into player evaluations, or if it's just all about what the players put on film. Next, Mike, Beau, and Abe discuss if Marshall edge rusher Mike Green would be a good pick for the Atlanta Falcons at 15 overall, and also talk about whether or not they think James Pearce Jr. may be a good second round gamble for the Falcons if he falls to the Falcons second round pick at 46 overall. AI has upended schooling as we know it. Students now have instant access to tools that can write their essays, summarize entire books, and solve complex math problems. Whether they want to or not, many feel pressured to use these tools just to keep up. Teachers, meanwhile, are left questioning how to evaluate student performance and whether the whole idea of assignments and grading still makes sense. The old model of education suddenly feels broken. So what comes next?In this episode, Daniel and Tristan sit down with cognitive neuroscientist Maryanne Wolf and global education expert Rebecca Winthrop—two lifelong educators who have spent decades thinking about how children learn and how technology reshapes the classroom. Together, they explore how AI is shaking the very purpose of school to its core, why the promise of previous classroom tech failed to deliver, and how we might seize this moment to design a more human-centered, curiosity-driven future for learning.Your Undivided Attention is produced by the Center for Humane Technology. The Webb Space Telescope picked up traces of dimethyl sulfide on planet K2-18b. On Earth, the molecule comes from microbes and phytoplankton. Also, researchers captured the first confirmed video of a colossal squid swimming in its natural habitat—almost 2,000 feet deep.Possible Signature Of Life Detected On Exoplanet—MaybeIn major galactic news, scientists may have detected possible signs of life on a planet right here in our galaxy. Is this one of the best hints we've gotten that alien life exists? Host Flora Lichtman gets into it with Anil Oza, the Sharon Begley Science Reporting Fellow at STAT and MIT. They discuss the latest in alien life, the Trump's administration cuts to the “indirect costs” of science funding, the largest map of a brain yet, and how salmon on anti-anxiety meds make bolder choices.A Colossal Squid Video? That's A Big DealThis week, scientists announced that they had captured the first confirmed video of a colossal squid in its natural habitat, recorded some 1,968 feet (600 m) below the ocean surface near the South Sandwich Islands. While there have been sightings of the colossal squid before, they have mainly been of individuals entangled with fishing equipment—and much of what is known about the elusive creatures comes from dead specimens. The video was captured by scientists on board the R/V Falkor (too) during an Ocean Census expedition searching for new marine life. As the remotely operated vehicle SuBastian descended towards the ocean floor, its cameras caught sight of a juvenile squid roughly one foot long (30 cm), and captured over a minute of high resolution video. The footage was later analyzed by experts and determined to be a colossal squid.Colossal squid are estimated to grow up to 23 feet (7 m) in length and can weigh as much as 1,100 pounds (500 kg), making them the heaviest invertebrate on the planet. They are not the same as the giant squid, an entirely different species, which can grow to be longer but are lighter and slimmer.Dr. Kat Bolstad, one of the squid experts the researchers sent their videos to for identification, joins Host Flora Lichtman to talk about the sighting.Transcripts for each segment will be available after the show airs on sciencefriday.com.
