In this episode of 1337 Wine TV, Mark reviews the 2014 Ca’ del Baio Barbaresco Autinbej. Mark will be taking a much deserved 2-ish month break after this episode. He is in the final stretch towards the Court of Master Sommeliers Advanced Sommelier Exam. He takes the exam March 9, 2020 in Portland, Oregon. So over the next two weeks he'll be concentrating on studying. Post-exam he plans on taking a break from wine study (except for the weekly tasting group that he's in). Maybe read a book or two not related to wine, play some video games, fly his drone (remember that?), and if he passes, compose some music. Look for the return of 1337 Wine TV with a review of a whisky he received at the San Antonio Cocktail Conference back in January. He may create a video about the Exam also. Don't expect a "Somm" movie like show, just a recap about the experience.Links for the show:Ca' del BaioSommSelect Like this content? For this very special show, he decided to "ball out" a bit with 3 Champagnes. First up is the 2002 Nicolas Feuillatte Palmes d’Or. After that is the 2009 Moët & Chandon Dom Perignon. And last, but not least, is the MV Krug Grande Cuvee 165th Edition. While to goal wasn't necessarily to spend $500 on the wines, the total came to pretty close to $500.Links for the show:Nicolas FeuillatteDom PerignonMoët & Chandon - Parent company of Dom PerignonKrug
In this special episode of 1337 Wine TV, Mark pulls out some cool wines that could be used for Christmas. First up is the MV Bruno Paillard Brut Rosé. Next is the 2016 El Enemigo Chardonnay. The third wine is the 2014 Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Rouge. But that's not all! Mark also gets into the holiday spirit with not one, but two different Egg Nogs! First is the Pennsylvania Dutch version, and then he tastes the Santa Clara Rompope from Mexico.Just like the last episode, there are video glitches that really can't be helped. There has been a recent update of the Mac OS and Final Cut Pro X which has caused the return on video glitches for cameras that record in the AVCHD format. We just have to hope that Apple will fix this issue like they've done in the past. The New Year's Eve episode will also have it. I'll just have to switch to using the iPhone 11 Pro for now until this issue is resolved or maybe just not use the camcorder anymore even if they do fix it.Links for the show:Bruno PaillardEl EnemigoDomaine Vacheron - This is the U.S. Importer's page for the winery.History of Egg Nog - No website for Pennsylvania Dutch.History of Rompope - No website for Santa Clara.TTB's page concerning sulfite labeling - basically 10ppm and above requires "Contains Sulfites."
N.B. This is an updated video to correct several mistakes I made. Vicki Jakubovic from the PR company (VickiGJ PR) that sent me the wines was gracious enough to not only contact me about them, but also put me in contact with Etti Edri, Export Manager for Carmel Wines (parent company for Yatir). Etti and I had a really great phone call that clarified a lot for me and gave me some more info. Thanks to both ladies for helping me with correcting those mistakes. In this episode of 1337 Wine TV, Mark reviews some free samples of wines from Israel. These were sent initially for Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) back in September. Unfortunately I had other episodes already scheduled so I let the supplier know I would review them later this year. However these could be used for Hanukkah which starts at sundown on 12/22/19.Links below for the show:Yatir WineryCarmel WineryManischewitz - Wikipedia entryKosher Wine Society - Learn about Kosher wine

In this special episode of 1337 Wine TV, Mark sits down with Megan Yount, Assistant Winemaker at Patton Valley Vineyard. They got to enjoy a gorgeous day outside talking wine, international wine growing areas, mountains, grapes other than pinot ;), and other stuff. It was just about 40º F outside BTW too! But the sun was shining bright! The penultimate episode of Mark's Willamette Valley trip. Don't get to use that word much.Link for the show:Patton Valley Vineyard
