If you like culinary or wine travel, you need to put the Chilean Winelands on your travel bucket list. Tamara just came back from a two-week trip to Chile including the Atacama Desert and the Winelands. Episode Highlights: The wine regions are south and west of Santiago It is easy to drive through these regions but it is still recommended to get a driver for days when you are doing wine tasting Two hours south of Santiago is the Colchagua Region that is known for its red wine including Malbec, Bordeaux blends, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Carmenere. One hour west of Santiago is the Casablanca Region, which is closer to the coast, and is more known for its white wines like Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. She stayed at the Vibo Wine Lodge in Colchagua. This is a small boutique property on the Viu Manent Vineyards near Santa Cruz. It has individual lofts or tiny homes spread out throughout the vineyards. Another popular place to stay in this region is Clos Apalta, which is a Relais & Chateaux luxury property. Vibo Wine Lodge includes breakfast in the coffee shop on property and they also have two other restaurants, the Rayuela Restaurant and the Vibo Wine and Food Studio. On property you can hike, borrow bikes, enjoy the pool, go wine tasting or set up horseback riding. They also did a wine tour with Colchagua Wine Tours, which was only $125 for a day with a private driver (you pay for the tasting separately.) Tamara enjoyed wine tasting at Montgras Winery and Maquis Winery. They had a nice lunch at Fuego Apalta on the Montes Winery (but she didn't like the wine at Montes.) Tastings of the "icon" wines, which are the top wines, are about $40-50 per person. Clos Apalta Residence is also an excellent place to go for lunch or dinner and you can go wine tasting at the winery. In Casablance, they stayed at La Casona, which is a hacienda which has been converted to a hotel on the grounds of the Matetic Vineyards. This was all-inclusive because there isn't a lot nearby to eat. But the menu doesn't change so it gets repetitive if you are there for any length of time. The package also includes excursions and they did a biodynamic wine tour and tasting, mountain biking, and hiking. They also offer horseback riding and excursions to towns. They took a day trip to the coast and visited Pablo Neruda's house. Related Episodes: Chile's Atacama Desert Wine tasting in Northern Italy

This is a fascinating interview because Anna Want, the General Manager and daughter of the founders openly embraces the idea that Casanel has both Norton and Cynthiana vines planted in their vineyard. There is beginning to be a more robust open debate about whether the Cynthiana grape vine is Norton under a different name, or a completely different species of grape vine. I personally, lean toward it is a different species based on the many bottles of Norton I have tasted and enjoyed that have Cynthiana vines listed as the varietal from the nursery they purchased these vines from.Casanel also is unique in Virginia as they are the only winery I know of who has planted the Carmenere grape and successfully produced a high-quality wine from it here in Virginia. The back story as to why the founders Nelson & Casey DeSouza purchase the land that their vineyard was planted on in Northern Loudon County in 2008 is yet another example of the pioneering spirit behind many Virginia wineries. It is a testament to the hard work and determination of one family to make a success out of a Farm Winery. 'My wife suggested we make wine. I think in the hope of cutting down our wine bill...'It's classic John Malkovich. The wit as dry as his aged Provençal Pinot Noir rosé (yes, you read that right). In this epic episode, we get to know John Malkovich the famous actor of stage and screen - but also John Malkovich the fashion designer, the theatre director, and most importantly John Malkovich the wine producer. This truly is a man for all seasons. But Malkovich seldom abides by convention - and his wine venture in the south of France, Les Quelles de La Coste, typifies this approach. He's planted atypical wine grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere - and (whisper it) Pinot Noir. He's even blending them together...For the wine classicists, this is nothing short of vinous heresy. So the big questions are: Is this just another cookie-cutter celeb wine project, or is it different? What are the wines actually like? Come to that, what's John Malkovich actually like? Join us as we pose the tricky questions, hear from the man himself and give our verdict on the wines.Along the way, John advises wine producers how best to launder money, defines what talent is, explains why he doesn't 'do' pride, identifies the greatest honour of his working life and tells a horror story of how he lost his 'spectacular' 2017 Cabernet. We also touch on topics as diverse as the Marquis de Sade, fabric collecting, beer chugging, 'boom boom' wines, the importance of details, and how making wine can break your heart. As the man says: 'I don't consider anything I do particularly provocative. It's just what I do. Which just seems to provoke people...'We love to hear from you so please do get in touch! Něco dobrého ochutnáte a zároveň tím vznik dalších dílů Vínocastu podpoříte. A conversation with Alessio Inama from The Inama Winery in the Veneto region in North Eastern Italy. Listen to Alessio talking about the Soave Classico, a fantastic wine made from Garganega grapes that portray its Volcanic terroir beautifully. The wine's journey from mediocracy in the 80's to starring in wine lists in some of the world's best restaurants is another subject of discussion. We hear him talk about the reds, all coming from a hilly region called Colli Berici, further east from Soave, where the grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carmenere, probably the family's most celebrated red grape. I hope you enjoy the exploration. Please share this episode and use #inthevineyardwith

Cabernet Franc on viinamari, mida tunneme peamiselt kui nii öelda „vaikiva” osalisena Bordeaux' segust, ent see mari annab ka iseseisvalt kauneid tulemusi. Seekordses veinikoolis tutvustab kuulsat halli kardinali, Prantsusmaa ühte olulisemat viinamarja lähemalt Eesti Sommeljeede Assotsiatsiooni president Kristjan Markii. Ajalooliselt on Cabernet Franc'i kohta leitud üsna intrigeerivaid seoseid. Cabernet Franc on esivanem mitmele tuntud sordile. 2. Cabernet Franc seostub “Kolme musketäri” raamatuga. Kardinal Richelieu pani selle marja oma valdustesse Loire'i orgu kasvama. 3. Kohtame teda sageli seguveinides, eriti Bordeaux' segudes. Peategelasena leiame teda Prantsusmaal Loire regiooni keskkosas, Chinon, Bourgeuil ja Samur-Champgny külades. Väljaspool Prantsusmaad on Cabernet Franci suured kasvualad näiteks Itaalias, Ungaris, USA läänerannikul, Argentiinas, Uruguais, Tšiilis, Lõuna-Aafrikas. Katsetatakse temaga aga isegi Hiinas ja Kasahstanis. Tema sünonüüme ei kasutata kuigi palju. Kui saab juba pudelile märkida sõna “Cabernet”, on see müügiargument. Ent nimesid jagub sellest hoolimata. Mõned näited: Achéria (Baskimaal), Bidure, Petite Vidure, Bouchet, Breton jt. Iseloomulikud aroomid: kirsid, maasikad, vaarikad, tomatid, paprika. Saates proovisime Cabernet Franc marjast veine: 1. L´Equilibriste, 2020, Château de Parenchère, Bordeaux, Prantsusmaa (Vin Vin Veinipood) 2. Clos de L´Echo, 2013, Couly-Dutheil, Chinon, Loire, Prantsusmaa (Vins de France) 3. Cabernet Franc Russiz Superiore, 2016, Marco Felluga, Collio, Itaalia (Liviko) 4. Cabernet Franc "Frettner", 2016, Weninger, Sopron, Ungari (Wibe OÜ) Põhjalikumalt saab sellest põnevast viinamarjast aga aimu juba saates, kus jutuks on ka söögiga sobitamine. Saate kuulasid sommeljee Kristjan Markii põnevaid jutte saatejuhid Keiu Virro ja Martin Hanson. Küsimuste ja ettepanekutega kirjutage meile aadressile vala@delfi.ee. Notably, local stone carvings by the Pict depict a mysterious beast with flippers. The first written account appears in a biography of St. Columba from 565 AD. According to that work, the monster bit a swimmer and was prepared to attack another man when Columba intervened, ordering the beast to “go back.” It obeyed, and over the centuries only occasional sightings were reported. Many of these alleged encounters seemed inspired by Scottish folklore, which abounds with mythical water creatures.Loch Ness Monster Drone Footage https://nypost.com/2021/09/25/loch-ness-monster-spotted-again-this-time-on-drone-footage/ Payara fish https://nypost.com/2021/09/25/loch-ness-monster-spotted-again-this-time-on-drone-footage/ Robert Kearns - Intermittent Winshield Wiper Inventorhttps://interestingengineering.com/how-robert-kearns-took-on-ford-and-chrysler-and-won

If you've never had a Carmenere wine, maybe the man who makes the best one in the world can convince you to try it. Aurelio Montes, Jr. -- a sky diver, boxer, motorcyclist, and winemaker -- tells the story of Carmenere, a mostly forgotten blending grape in Bordeaux that was mistaken for Merlot in Chile and today can make the most interesting and delicious wines from South America. About Aurelio The son of Chilean winemaking pioneer Aurelio Montes, Sr., Aurelio Montes del Campo was born in Santiago, Chile. He completed his high-school education at The Newland School. In 1994, he went to university to study Agronomy at Universidad Católica de Chile, where he also completed an advanced undergraduate course in winemaking. He graduated from college cum laude in 1999. Early in his career as a winemaker, Aurelio travelled around the world to see the main wine-making regions. He gained extensive knowledge of and valuable experience in winery management and winemaking practices. He returned to Chile in 2001 and joined Viña Ventisquero as an assistant to Winemaker, Felipe Tosso. In 2007, he was invited to join Montes' winemaking team as Winemaking Director. He worked at the Apalta winery, where Montes' iconic and Alpha Premium wines are made. During those years, he created new wines and studied Montes' terroir as part of a special 4-year project carried out with Pedro Parra, a world expert in this field. In 2011, Aurelio temporarily moved with his family to Mendoza, Argentina, to help lead Montes' winery in Argentina: Kaiken. He turned Kaiken into a symbol of high-quality in Argentina's wine industry. In 2016, Aurelio returned to Chile with his family to take on the role of Montes' Chief Winemaker. He is in charge of Montes' whole oenological team.

Welcome back wine nerds! You have probably heard of Cabernet (... franc?) and you have probably heard of Sauvignon (... blanc?). Actually, I know you have heard about them because they are the main topics of at least two shows already; but what about the greater family of Cabernet and Sauvignon? How does Carmenere fit in? This is our ramp up to a three part series on Bordeaux, so let's get to know some of the grapes that make some of the world's most famous wine. My favourite resource for learning about grapes and grape origins is: Wine Grapes by Jancis Robinson, Julia Harding and Jose VouillamozIf you spot something that needs correcting or you would like to request an episode you can reach out at housewinepodcast@gmail.com or check out the House Wine Instagram @housewinepodcast This podcast is 100% independent, it is written, narrated and produced by myself, Rachael so if you heard something you liked then scroll down and leave a comment or review, that is the best way that you can support the show. Kirsten and Dannielle have their final discussion of time to wrap up Season 3 and this time it's a doozy. They focus on a study done in 2000 where prayer was used to retroactively heal patients four to 10 years before. Dannielle explains the concept of time happening at the same instance, therefore we are able to affect the outcomes in the past. Kirsten takes the subject and pairs the discussion to a Chilean Carmenere, a grape that until the 1990's was thought to be something else. Join them to fill your life with hope and your glass with wine!
