Eggs better watch it, there is a Beyond Meat product waiting in the wings. Bodegas are selling Loosies of Eggs. Elon is going to try and save Air Travel. The Segway was super hyped, but panned years later. The TSA finally gets one right! Does the CalExit movement have any legs?
2 - Bodegas are selling looseys now! But they're not cigarettes, they're eggs! 205 - Should the NJ state government force towns to have marijuana dispensaries? 210 - SEPTA is testing bulletproof cases for bus drivers starting today. Is there a worse run organization in the world than SEPTA? 215 - Dom's Money Melody! 220 - Canadians aren't going down the shore this summer due to protest? 235 - The 5 major TV networks will still hold control of White House events like The Correspondents Dinner, but these lesser outlets will still get their shot. Your calls. 240 - Trump makes a Biden comparison. 250 - The Lightning Round!
12 - New Jersey might be winning the woke race against PA as the NJSIAA says you can be a transgender athlete so long as you declare your gender before the tryout. Isn't this defiance against Trump's executive order? 1210 - Kilmeade hits the nail on the head regarding the slashing of government jobs. 1215 - Side - all-time lists 1220 - Brendan Boyle and a Virginia delegate are making some odd comparisons to highlight what DOGE is doing. How did these schools waste so much of their COVID relief money? 1235 - We welcome Moms4Liberty Co-Founder Tiffany Justice back to the program. We're talking lists! How did these schools spend such an exorbitant amount of the COVID-19 money? How can people share the information on leaders trampling on our rights without coming across as partisan? How does it feel that Mom4Librty has a proverbial target on their backs? 1250 - Your calls to wrap up the hour. 1 - The music of ‘Les Miserable' is under fire as it was played at a white House dinner with trump in attendance. Is it a song he likes aand wanted to hear, or was it the army chorus peacefully rebelling against his regime? 115 - This is the guy who's talking about wage tax? Your calls. 135 - We take a call before our guest on Philadelphia PD waste. Then, we welcome Dan Abrams of “On Patrol”, a show that follows the police and has Abrams and other law enforcement agents break down what is happening in real time. Why bring this show to air? Dom takes Dan through a story of his ride along and how it relates to the tough standards that the police are held to. What is on the horizon for the show? Moving to Krasner talk, what is Dan's sense of where these liberal DA's across the country stand after pushback? What else is Dan doing? 155 - Your calls. 2 - Bodegas are selling looseys now! In this episode, Patrick McKenzie (@patio11) unpacks his 24k word essay Debanking (and Debunking?) originally published on Bits about Money. He discusses the contours of recent debanking claims made by the crypto community, notably Marc Andreessen, Nic Carter, and explains how banking actually works as infrastructure rather than conspiracy. The conversation moves from Operation Chokepoint's documented history to current claims about coordinated action against certain industries, while highlighting how banking access challenges disproportionately affect those who are "relatively less resourced, relatively less educated."–Full transcript available here: www.complexsystemspodcast.com/debanking-patrick-mckenzie/–Sponsors: Vanta | GiveWell | CheckVanta automates security compliance and builds trust, helping companies streamline ISO, SOC 2, and AI framework certifications. This show is the final in a multi-part, in-depth series on the Rioja DOCa in which we have looked at the three major zones of Rioja through the eyes of top producers to tell us about their areas and the challenges they face. Photo: Raquel Perez Cuevas. Credit: Bodegas Ontañón Facebook Page This time, Raquel Pérez Cuevas, 4th generation family member of Bodegas Ontañón joins to tell us about Rioja Oriental (formerly Rioja Baja). Raquel is an agricultural engineer and oenologist, and has traveled the world presenting the beautiful wines of Ontañón. Ontañón is one of the most highly regarded and best wineries in Rioja. The family started as growers that sold to large companies but in the 1980s, they started making their own wines, breaking with tradition and most of their neighbors in Oriental at the time. The Perez Cuevas family are unique in that they 250ha of vineyards, in around the village of Quel (which Raquel discusses a lot in the show). Their vineyards are also unique because they sit very high in the mountains, even higher than the vineyards of Alta in Alavesa. In this show, Raquel tells us about Oriental, the differences between the region and Alta and Alavesa, the grapes that grow here (they are different from the other regions – there is much more diversity), and her perspective on what is happening in the region right now. This series has been so eye opening and this show shines yet another light on this very complex region, which is undergoing a major transition right now. Learn more about your ad choices.

This show kicks off a multi-part, in-depth series on the Rioja DOCa. We will look at the three major zones of Rioja in the podcasts that follow. In each, I host top producers to tell us their perspectives on their zones and on Rioja at large. To get you up to speed before my conversation with Guillermo de Aranzabal Bittner, the Deputy General Director and Director of Public Relations for La Rioja Alta S.A., I start out the show with a quick primer on Rioja. I cover everything from climate and terroir, the grapes, the aging criteria, and the terroir driven designations that were introduced in 2017-2018. Then I get to my lively conversation with Guillermo de Aranzabal Bittner. Guillermo is a descendent of one of the founding families of La Rioja Alta and is part of the 6th generation in the business. He educates us on the Rioja Alta zone - its terroir, history, and the grapes in which it specializes. Guillermo then tells us about La Rioja Alta, which was formed in 1890 as a partnership of 5 quality-conscious growers focused on getting the wines of their remote region to the masses. They achieved this by supporting the construction of a rail link from Haro to Bilbao and thus, opened the world to these marvelous wines. They have a laser focus on quality and on maintaining tradition -- the dedication is admirable! The brands of La Rioja Alta S.A. that Guillermo discusses are: La Rioja Alta: Gran reserva 890, Gran Reserva 904 Seleccion Especial, Viña Arana, Viña Ardanza, Viña Alberdi Torre de Oña (Rioja Alavesa): Finca Martelo, Finca San Martin Crianza Guillermo and I then discuss some of the challenges currently facing Rioja, and we get deep into the analysis of what is working and what isn't. It's a great discussion! As promised, here is the list of producers in the Asociación de Bodegas por la Calidad (ABC) that we mention. Full show notes and all back episodes are on Patreon. When you think of a family business, one of two images probably comes to mind: either the mom and pop shop around the corner or the dysfunctional family from “Succession.” But actually, “it could be anything,” says Jennifer M. Pendergast, family enterprise consultant and professor at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. Last episode, we looked into the oldest family business in Chicago. And this got us thinking about family enterprise in general: Why do family members end up in business together? What happens when they do? Should they? Curious City's Erin Allen sat down with Pendergast to talk about this, plus why she says family business is the “backbone of the economy.”
