Becoming an aged care volunteer visitor can be a rewarding and life-changing experience. You will make a friend, share stories and help someone who might be feeling isolated or lonely. Volunteers usually visit for an hour once a fortnight at a time that suits you both. During a visit a volunteer and older person can do anything you both feel like doing, such as: enjoy a chat over a cup of tea take a walk work on a joint hobby together. ACVVS volunteers do not undertake any clinical or home care duties as part of their visits. Make this the year you volunteer and brighten the life of an older person in the Hume Region. The Miles From Home run will be on Wednesday the 15th of April 2026, from 7am, and concludes on Thursday the 16th of April, 2026 at 7am. Miles from Home is a community running event that anyone can enter. Simply just "Sign up now", and enter the discount code: "RUNNER", to pay your $20 registration fee, upload your own picture and details around why you want to be part of this event, and your own fundraising page will be created. This can then be shared on your socials for you to raise money towards your goal... Fundraise $10, $1000, or whatever you choose. This event runs concurrently as the “Under the Same Stars” sleepout event and is held on a circuit that surrounds the Deakin Reserve precinct, where the sleepers will be participating. The circuit is one kilometer exactly, so you pick how many laps you would like to complete. This element is about personal achievement. For example, if you have run 5kms previously, then you might want to run 10kms. If you have run a half marathon before, you might want to run a full marathon. This choice is entirely yours. You can run, walk or roll your wheelchair around this circuit to achieve your own personal goal. Some people are indeed aiming to run for the full 24 hours!
