In October, two of our opinions columnists, Sally Dukes and Thomas Thorgerson, each wrote an article as part of a Caught in the Crossfire special on transgender identity. Dukes believes that the acceptance of transgender identities is important to the support of gender-questioning youth; Thorgerson says that to accept transgender identities ignores science, and furthers a harmful agenda of political correctness. Recently, they met up to discuss their differences. They touched upon the role of hormone treatment, suicide among trans youths, and other important factors in the discussion surrounding transgender identity.
