Our heart with this podcast is to help you all navigate life with advice that is straight from the Bible. We want to bring you back to what we know to be true!
The Bringing it Back podcast is a truly authentic and engaging show that offers insightful discussions while keeping the conversation organic. Hosted by Jonah and Micah, this podcast incorporates their convictions and utilizes the Bible as a foundation for their topics, making it both enlightening and refreshing in a world where truth is often seen as relative. Their selection of topics is topical and thought-provoking, and they do an exceptional job of bringing on guests who offer different perspectives. The commitment to always "bring it back" to scripture ensures that listeners have a solid foundation for their thought processes. This podcast has personally helped me and I have eagerly shared it with everyone I know.
One of the best aspects of The Bringing it Back podcast is the way Jonah and Micah select topics that are relevant and timely. They tackle issues that many people are grappling with, providing insight and guidance from a biblical perspective. Their ability to keep the conversation flowing in an organic manner keeps listeners engaged throughout each episode. Additionally, the incorporation of different perspectives through guest interviews adds depth to their discussions, allowing for a more well-rounded understanding of each topic.
However, one potential downside of this podcast is its heavy reliance on scripture as the basis for all discussions. While this may be appealing to those who share similar beliefs, it may alienate or exclude listeners who do not hold the same religious convictions. Although using the Bible as a starting point can provide a strong foundation for thought processes, some episodes might benefit from incorporating other sources or viewpoints to offer a more inclusive perspective.
In conclusion, The Bringing it Back podcast is an exceptional show that offers authentic conversations centered around biblical principles. It provides valuable insights into relevant topics while maintaining an organic flow of discussion. By constantly referring back to scripture, Jonah and Micah offer listeners a solid framework for exploring various issues. While there may be room for more inclusivity in terms of incorporating diverse perspectives, overall, this podcast is highly recommended for anyone seeking thought-provoking and faith-centered discussions.
Do some people just grind your gears? Is it okay if I get frustrated by someone else? Do I have permission to let someone know if they are bothering me? Nate and Micah hop into the word to try and find some of these answers. Interestingly enough, both of the guys get really annoyed at bad drivers and find their patience often tested behind the wheel. A couple of verses they referenced in this episode are Proverbs 12:16, "Fools show their annoyance at once, but the prudent overlook an insult" and 2 Timothy 1:7 "For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline." Hopefully we don't annoy you too much in this one!
In this episode, Nate and Micah have a little chat about the importance of theology - why having clear, articulate terms to describe your faith is integral for avoiding dangerous pitfalls. One of the traps of spending too much time learning more religious verbiage is becoming prideful in your thinking. The boys talk about how learning more about God and applying accurate descriptions of Him should actually produce humility. R.C. Sproul states "The more I learn about God, the more aware I become of what I don't know about him." Lend us your ear!
How do I be a good Christian if i don't work in ministry? How can I find purpose in my work? In this episode, Micah and Nate dive into the topic of "work" to help answer those questions. Using Colossians 3:23 ("Whatever you do, work with all your heart, as working for the Lord and not for men") as a guide, they cover the importance of identifying your "why" and the Hebrew work "Adovah" which simultaneously means "work," "worship," and "service." (This episode was recorded the Wednesday before Nathan's birthday and Micah did, in fact, write Nathan a birthday card the following day. It was delivered as a surprise set up by Nathan's girlfriend. Nathan really does have good people in his life and is extremely grateful ☺).
FOMO, flaking, fickle friends. Why is it so hard for people to stay committed to things? Whether is be relationships, work, or showing up to social events, getting commitments from people (or committing ourselves) seems to be a challenge for most. Micah and Nathan take a look at Proverbs 16:3 and other verses to help gain a better understanding for the importance of honoring your word.
Micah and Nathan are joined by Dr. Sam Storms; a self-proclaimed "Amillennial, Calvinistic, charismatic, credo-baptistic, complementarian, Christian Hedonist who loves his wife of 50 years, his two daughters, his four grandchildren, books, baseball, movies, and all things Oklahoma University." While some of those labels seem contradictory on the surface, Dr. Storms provides helpful context and Biblical support for his beliefs. In this episode, the discussion shifts to focus on Christian Hedonism and what "enjoying God" looks like on a practical basis.
The boys continue the GotS series and discuss discernment, knowledge, and wisdom - how they intersect and what's different about each of them. Here is a list of helpful verses for each gift: Wisdom: Psalm 111:10 James 3:13-18 1 Corinthians 1:17-31 Colossians 1:9-10 Discernment: 1 John 4:1 Ephesian 4:29 Proverbs 10:21 Proverbs 15:1 Knowledge: 1 Corinthians 12:8 1 Corinthians 1:4-7
This week, Nathan and Micah take a brief intermission from the Gifts of the Spirit to discuss levels of friendship and boundaries. Does the Bible actually shed any light on this topic? What are some practical tools we can utilize to make sure the people closest to us receive appropriate access to our lives? These questions and more get tackled in this week's episode.
After a multi-month hiatus, the boys are back. This time, Micah and Nathan continue the Gifts of the Spirit conversation with a fun topic: tongues. This gift is one of the "weird ones." Hopefully, by taking a look at what scripture says and sharing some personal experiences, some wrong ways of thinking can be dispelled. The goal is not the gift; the goal is relationship with the Father, edification of the church, and better relationship with others.
Prophecy - our first stop in working through the gifts of the Spirit. Micah and Nate peel back some of the mystery of this topic and jump right into 1 Corinthians 14 to better understand the prophetic gifting. How can I earnestly pursue this form of encouragement for others? Let's find out together!
Talking today about the gifts of the Spirit. Are they still active, or is John MacArthur right? Nate and Micah talk about the biblical basis behind the gifts and the importance of pursuing them.
Micah and Nate are joined by their friend, Laura Gray, who is a 2nd year PhD student studying Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois to discuss what the Bible says about caring for the world around us. Can you be a Christian and read Harry Potter? Nate and Micah talk about media consumption and what the Bible actually says about the spiritual realm. If there is a storyline of redemption, is that reason enough to justify the introduction of mysticism? Let's find out!
Can there really be too much of a good thing? Nathan and Micah discuss overindulgence and how to establish clear, healthy boundaries.
Micah and Nathan sit down and talk about revival infatuation. Emotional manipulation is present in most religions and the charismatic movement in particular has caught some flack over the last decade or so. Where do we draw the line between actively seeking greater and greater experiences with the Holy Spirit and setting up disciplines to further learn about God from the Bible? Join us to find out!
It's important to view ourselves with the Imago Dei (image of God). Where is the balance between loving ourselves and loving others? Micah and Nathan explore verses in Galatians 1 and James 4 to help answer this question. Should we shave our heads and wear sack cloths or go have daily spa treatments? It's somewhere in the middle - let's find that together.
In this episode, Nathan and Micah discuss legalism and obedience as they relate to language. Does it really matter what words we choose to say? Is the intent behind our words more important? What wisdom does scripture offer for our personal responsibility of understanding semantics and what are the consequences if we ignore that wisdom? This week, let's find out!
