Welcome to Hot Topics! In this episode, host Gabrielle Crichlow invites guest Zulma Williams, who affectionately calls herself "A Swearing Therapist." Together, they explore whether the use of profanity is a genuine form of self-expression, allowing individuals to convey their true emotions and experiences. They examine the emotional weight and societal perceptions of swearing, prompting viewers to reflect on how these words can reveal deeper aspects of authentic selves. Ultimately, they encourage embracing authenticity in language and expression. (Explicit content ahead!)Who is Zulma Williams?Zulma is the founder of Dragonfly Therapy Services and a licensed clinical social worker, widely known as "The Swearing Therapist." Specializing in trauma, anxiety, and depression, she empowers clients to tackle life's challenges and embrace their true potential. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Zulma immigrated to the U.S. at 31. At 42, she began her journey in social work, and just weeks after graduating at 46, she faced a breast cancer diagnosis. After a lumpectomy and a transformative three-year stay in Argentina, she returned to the U.S. in 2015. By 50, she was pursuing her Master of Social Work, becoming fully licensed in 2018. Her motto? "I had cancer, cancer did not have ME!" In 2025, she celebrated her 60th birthday in Hawaii, which reignited her love for the ocean. After financial challenges, she moved to Panama in December 2025, waking up to the soothing sounds of waves. Zulma is witty, passionate, and unapologetically real. Why do we cuss? And what happens when we do. Psychologist and Curse Word Researcher Dr. Richard Stephens has spent decades trying to answer those two questions. Dr. Stephens says that while there are many reason why we cuss, such as anger and trying to fit in, when we curse, our body and mind go through significant changes. Changes that can dull pain and even make us stronger. In this episode of Profoundly Pointless we talk the unique psychology behind cussing, the power of different curse words and why our brains treat curse words differently than other words. 00:00 Introducing Dr. Richard Stephens 01:11 Why We Cuss 02:30 What Happens When We Cuss 03:57 Cussing and Pain Management 05:31 Cussing Makes Us Stronger 08:09 The Strongest Cuss Words 09:45 Why Some People Cuss More 12:19 Cussing and Honesty 16:39 The Best Cuss Word Contact the Show Dr. Richard Stephens Learn more about your ad choices. Joining hosts Philionaire, Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony of Louis York, and Tamone Bacon, the Detroit-born mastermind behind Belle Collective, Love & Marriage: Huntsville, Bold & Bougie, Grown and Gospel, and a long list of other franchises pulls up to set the record straight on the "Black Andy Cohen" comparison, his deep love for music, and why his ear for talent runs in the family (his father played saxophone for The Dramatics before walking away from the road to raise ten kids). The conversation moves fast and pulls no punches. Carlos relives the now-legendary moment when a young Keyshia Cole cussed him out on a 106 & Park red carpet while he was still a PA reading questions off a producer's clipboard. He breaks down why Keyshia, Tamar Braxton, and Cardi B set the blueprint for using reality television to launch and protect a music career, and names exactly which current artists (Normani, Chloe Bailey, Victoria Monet, Durand Bernarr) he believes should be lacing up their boots for the same play. Then the gloves come off. Carlos walks us through the rise and stall of The Encore, his beloved BET girl-group experiment that he calls top two of his entire career, lays out the four reasons girl groups can't survive (ego, men, management, work ethic), and shares why Chloe x Halle splitting too early still bothers him. From there he flexes his Mount Rushmore of gospel singers (Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Shirley Caesar, Aretha Franklin), defends Amazing Grace as Aretha's untouchable peak, and explains why he plays gospel every morning without fail. He also weighs in on why he believes today's R&B falls in comparison to the '90s, why too many singers have never set foot in a church, and why he no longer goes to concerts (his words: lip-syncing, no choreography, no production, no Frank Gatson). Our words serve as spiritual health monitors, revealing the true condition of our hearts. Jesus teaches that just as a tree is known by its fruit, our inner spiritual condition is revealed through our outward words and actions. The Pharisees focused on external appearances while neglecting internal transformation, living an outside-in faith rather than inside-out. Genuine character isn't about trying harder but training wisely and becoming a Yes, Lord person who surrenders completely to God. Our words don't just slip out - they overflow from what's stored in our hearts, and we'll be held accountable for every careless word we speak.
The Eikon Team, The Hidden Chapters Team, and their spouses all join the episode for a mostly lighthearted discussion about whether it's always a sin to curse.

It's episode 178 of the Gnar Couch Podshow! We're already three minutes in and the F-bomb counter is higher than your buddy who “microdosed” but forgot the “micro.” Utah probably hates us (again), but that's fine—Utah also hates fun, women's thighs, and beer over 4%. But, this isn't your dad's mountain bike podcast. Actually, your dad probably left because you bought an E-bike, then he joined a Facebook group called Lycra Enthusiasts Who Love Buttholes. Guess what? We're all you've got now. This episode: memes, caffeine jitters, brown-eye contact, and the unholy truth that “analog” is being horribly mispronounced. Mountain bike culture is dead, and we're here performing a necrophilia-themed jazzercise class on its stiff little corpse. Joining us is the meme-lord himself, Ryden Dirty—43 years old, knees like stale breadsticks, and a professional at making Facebook warriors cry into their Garmin watches. He's an ex-BMXer, chef, and current semi-professional button-pusher. If you get offended by him, congratulations—you're softer than a Casey's gas station pizza. We've also got: A Zoom room full of Russian bots who keep trying to sell us boner pills. Facebook dads with “opinions” so bad they make your uncle's QAnon posts look reasonable. A merch store with more hoodies than a middle school vape circle. Throw in some ADHD, chef rage, and a bunch of dudes old enough to schedule colonoscopies around bike rides, and you've got yourself a certified Gnar Couch dumpster fire. So grab a chamois, double up if your prostate needs it, and let's kick this turd downhill. Sadie, her mom Korie, and her husband Christian all tackle a messy conversation about cussing. Is it okay for Christians to ever cuss? What about replacement cuss words—is that okay? And ultimately, is any cussing a sin? What about cussing in movies or music? And swearing an oath? Sadie, Korie, and Christian dive into the Scriptures to read what God has provided to us as a guide. Topics like this are brimming with nuance and even cultural differences, depending on where you are in the world.
