Today, we're sitting down with John Kasich, former Governor of Ohio and a passionate advocate for community-driven change. In his new book 'Heaven Help Us', Kasich explores how faith institutions can be powerful catalysts for solving local problems. We'll dive into stories of everyday people who are making real differences in their communities, from fighting human trafficking to supporting refugees. This conversation is about hope, grassroots action, and how ordinary people can create extraordinary change when they work together. John shares personal stories and insights about bottom-up problem solving, the role of faith communities, and why believing in our collective potential matters more than ever. So join us as we join together with faith communities to make a real difference in our society. John Kasich is a national leader who has spent a lifetime bringing people together to solve big problems and leave the world around them just a little bit better than they found it. Kasich served as the 69th governor of Ohio and ran for President during the 2016 GOP primary. His message focused on unifying Americans rather than dividing them, championing the great potential of our citizens to make positive impacts in their own communities, a strong national defense, and the importance of our international alliances. Today, he runs the Kasich Company and serves as a political analyst for NBC, CNBC, and MSNBC. He is the author of four New York Times bestsellers: Courage Is Contagious; Stand for Something; Every Other Monday; Two Paths, and It's Up to Us. A shockingly high number of American Christians don't vote, but if they did, it could forever change the course of this country's history. Craig Huey is an economic expert, bestselling author, and national television commentator who discusses the power of the evangelical vote. He says Christians must learn how to do political battle competitively with progressive opponents and notes that the Democrats are roughly 10-15 years ahead when it comes to marketing and messaging their platform to the masses. The 80 million Christians in America have the power to turn the country around - but only if they get out the vote. Craig discusses practical ways the church can safely get involved in the civic process this year. TAKEAWAYS Legal ballot harvesting is a critical tool for winning elections in battleground states Republicans and conservatives tend to have much more anemic campaigns than Democrats. Churches can easily mobilize to become legal ballot-harvesting centers where states allow it. Church involvement isn't about politics - it's about supporting policies that align with the Bible

In this months episode we chat through the history and growth of Kids Ministry over the last 200 years. Show notes for this ep will be below.Check us out!WebsiteInstagramProverbs 22:6:  Early BeginningsChildren's ministry has deep roots in ancient times. In Jewish tradition, religious education began in the home, with parents teaching their children the Torah. Early Christians continued this practice, often meeting in homes or small gatherings where children learned alongside adults. During the medieval era, monastic schools became centres of learning, including for children.Sunday Schools in the 19th CenturyIn the 19th century, Sunday Schools expanded rapidly, particularly in the United States. Churches of various denominations recognised the value of structured religious education for children. Key figures like Horace Bushnell advocated for tailored religious instruction that considered children's developmental stages which was groundbreakingEarly 20th Century DevelopmentsAs we entered the 20th century, children's ministry became more formalised. Churches developed structured curriculum and teaching materials, often produced by denominational publishing houses. This period also saw the birth of Vacation Bible School (VBS). Mid-20th Century ShiftsPost-World War II saw significant shifts. The baby boom led to a surge in children, and suburban churches grew rapidly. Children's ministry programs expanded to meet this demand. Innovation was key during this period. Churches began using audio-visual aids, music, puppetry, and drama to make lessons more engaging and dynamic. These methods helped capture children's imaginations and made learning about faith more enjoyable. The Rise of Children's Ministry as a ProfessionBy the 1970s and 1980s, children's ministry began to be recognised as a specialised field. Churches started hiring dedicated children's pastors. Professional organisations and conferences emerged, offering training and resources for those in children's ministry. This era saw a focus on developmental psychology, understanding how children learn and grow, and adapting ministry methods accordingly.Technology and Modern Kids MinistryThe digital age has transformed children's ministry. Today, we use multimedia and interactive tools to engage children. Online resources, apps, and even virtual Sunday schools have become common. This technology allows us to reach children in new and innovative ways. At the same time, we've had to enhance safety protocols to protect children in both physical and digital spaces. Inclusive and Holistic ApproachesModern children's ministry emphasises inclusivity and holistic approaches. We recognise the importance of catering to diverse cultural backgrounds and have developed programs for special needs children.Future Trends in Kids MinistryLooking to the future, we see several emerging trends. The use of AI and virtual reality could revolutionise how we teach children about faith. There's a growing focus on mental health and well-being, recognising the whole child in ministry.Church Involvement"Secondly, the role of the church has been critical throughout history. Initially, religious education took place in small gatherings or monastic schools. The Sunday School Movement expanded this role significantly, with churches becoming central to children's spiritual education. Faith in the HomeLastly, faith in the home has always been a crucial element of children's ministry. In ancient times, religious education started with parents teaching their children at home. The Word of God, church involvement, and faith in the home have been the key threads weaving through the history of kids ministry.

Did you know that only 8% of the people in our church pews can claim that they know the names of their 8 closest neighbors? As Christians, we aught to be on the front lines of the fight against what the Surgeon General calls and “epidemic of loneliness”. Omaha itself, , with all its strengths, grapples with mental health issues, people feeling isolated, and disparities in education and opportunities. So, in today's podcast, I sit down with Jed Mullenix, the CEO of Within Reach. He works to unify our local church communities around these issues. Together we can address community needs and spread the love of Jesus. He highlights the significance of pursuing proximity with neighbors, cultivating empathy, and committing to long-term relationships built on genuine care and compassion. As he puts it, "The world needs to know. They need to hear, they need to see, they need to feel and experience the love or the kindness of Jesus. And so, we call the church back to that place of rugged, beautiful, persistent kindness in their lives and in Jesus' name.” In this episode, you'll learn: The primary concerns of neighbors and how the local church can address them. Inspiring examples of churches actively engaging with their communities. Strategies for cultivating empathy and building long-term relationships with neighbors. The importance of activating Christians to share the story of Jesus through acts of kindness and service. Don't forget to check out Within Reach (https://withinreach.com/)! Recently, our friends at Lifeway research offered some very helpful directives for those of us who desire to see our kids grow up to love, follow, and serve Jesus Christ. There are three factors in particular that parents must be aware of that research tells us are present in the homes of those who grow up to embrace a life of Christian discipleship. First, Dads need to be involved in the lives of their kids. Researchers found that the odds of a teen dropping out of church are one-point-two-seven times lower among those kids whose fathers attended church, compared to those whose fathers did not attend church when the teen was seventeen. Second, teens who embrace a life of discipleship grew up in families where their parents were active and involved in the church, and the kids came along. Finally, and not surprisingly, teens who regularly spend time reading and studying their Bibles are more likely to follow Jesus. Parents, make sure these habits are present in your home.

Have you ever wondered about the profound significance of the church, and the role it plays in fostering relationships? Join me, Holly Curby, as we embark on a journey to explore the essence of the church, recognizing the crucial role of pastors, particularly during Pastor Appreciation Month. In this dialogue, we unravel the importance of transparency in church governance and address the hesitations of engaging with the church. We delve into the concept of nurturing a relationship with God through prayer, devotion, and fellowship, emphasizing that it's not about religion, but about a relationship - with Jesus. Our conversation extends to discuss how to actively support and engage in church activities, focusing on inclusivity and making everyone feel welcome. We offer insights on identifying areas of need and becoming the hands and feet of the church. This week, Mary Patton welcomes Louisiana native and mother of four Mary Kathleen Sims to the podcast. Mary Patton and Mary Kathleen discuss the importance of church involvement during college years, and the importance of knowing older men and women to be influences during those years. A significant part of Mary Kathleen's faith story is her marriage with Daniel Sims. Mary Kathleen discusses her unexpected pregnancy outside of marriage after college, and advises young adults that it is sometimes better to marry young than to wait (I Corinthians 7:9). Besides church involvement, accountability, and marriage, Mary Kathleen also shares about her hobbies of painting, crafting, and thrifting. She shares about how the Lord brought the gift of art and creativity to her home during Covid, and how art is a gift that can be used to point others - especially young children - to the Lord. When it comes to being bold, Mary Kathleen's encouragement for students is to show boldness by being loving. She shares that you never really know what someone is walking through, so it is important to show the grace and kindness of Christ in all things.
