A podcast focused on Clemson athletics. For the casual and hardcore fan looking for Clemson sports talk that doesn't take itself too seriously.
For the first time since Hunter Renfrow walked on the Clemson football team, the Tigers are unranked after clawing their way to a 19-13 victory over Boston College on Saturday night in the Valley. And though there were some bright spots in this game, they were largely overshadowed by the fact that it wasn't pretty, and the attrition is mounting. In this ep we focus on these aspects of both the offense and the defense, discuss the increased reliance on special teams, and wrap with our thoughts on what a 2021 ACC Championship would mean for this team, and what it should for the fanbase. Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The wheels have come off for the Clemson football team as an ugly, 27-21 OT loss to N.C. State in Raleigh on Saturday drops the Tigers to 2-2 for the first time in 7 years. In this ep we discuss the structural issues plaguing this team, focusing primarily on an offense that has yet to put up more than 14 points in regulation against an FBS opponent. But though there have been brighter days in Tigertown, we posit that this is not quite yet the end of an era, though it appears much more than just a bump in the road. Enjoy(?) and Go Tigers!!!
Coming off of their first opening game loss in 7 years (also to Georgia), the #6 Clemson Tigers righted the ship in Death Valley on Saturday with a 49-3 victory over the S.C. State Bulldogs. In this ep we recap both this and the Georgia games (2:35), looking for signs of improvement for an offense that is still trying to find it's identity (30:49), while also searching for the right words to describe how dominant the 2021 version of Brent Venables' defense projects to be (1:05:34). We also discuss our updated predictions for the team's trajectory this year and wrap with a look around College Football (1:31:37). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
Clemson fell to the #5 Georgia Bulldogs by a 10-3 final in Charlotte. To recap the game, we invited Tom Dianora (@tom_dianora) onto the podcast. #2 Clemson suffered their worse loss in the playoff era on New Year's Day as #3 Ohio State dominated all phases of the game, handing the Tigers a humbling 49-28 defeat that capped off an unusual 2020 season. In this ep we recap a game in which the Tigers had no answer for OSU on either side of the ball, as the Buckeyes defensive pressure stymied Trevor Lawrence and the offense (7:24) and the defense looked completely inept against a masterful game plan and gutsy performance by QB Justin Fields (33:57). In doing so we breakdown the Tigers' deficiencies and how it relates to recruiting, before offering an optimistic look ahead to their trajectory moving forward. We wrap with a quick look at the upcoming national championship game that will be played without the Tigers for only the 2nd time in 6 years (1:11:46). Remember, things could be worse, you could be a Gamecock fan. Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
In this ep we preview the Sugar Bowl matchup between #2 Clemson and #3 Ohio State, with the help of our friend Chris from the former website ClemsonPaws.com. Tune in for a breakdown of Ohio State's personnel and scheme, and the implications of this game in the larger picture of these two elite programs. Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The #2 Clemson Tigers will be making their 6th consecutive trip to the College Football Playoff after claiming their 6th straight ACC title in a 34-10 blowout of fellow playoff contender Notre Dame. In doing so they avenged their loss to the Irish from 6 weeks prior when a depleted Tiger team lost in double OT in South Bend. In this ep we discuss the dominant performance and what having Trevor Lawrence back meant to the offense (11:46), and how the return of key defensive starters, combined with the development of some outstanding true freshman, held Ian Book and Notre Dame to 10 points the second time around (41:36). We wrap with a look ahead to the playoffs and Clemson’s matchup against six game winner Ohio State, and discuss the potential for playoff expansion (1:07:44). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
To preview the 3rd ranked Tigers' rematch with #2 Notre Dame in the ACC Championship Game, we brought on Nathan Atkins from Sports Illustrated's Irish Breakdown. Nate gave us his thoughts on the rematch, and whether Ian Book is up to the task. We also discussed the Brian Kelly regime and the playoff race. Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The #3 Clemson Tigers weathered the cold (and sprinklers) in Blacksburg last weekend, exiting with a 45-10 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies. In this ep we recap what was an otherwise unmemorable game that saw the Tigers' offense limited in possessions (8:26), and their defense that was on the field for nearly two-thirds of the game (36:12). We wrap with a look ahead to the upcoming playoffs and the impact Ohio State may have as a mere 6-0 team (57:38). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
Three weeks after suffering their first loss of the season to Notre Dame, the #3 Clemson Tigers were back on the field in Death Valley Saturday afternoon and showed that time heals all wounds, mounting a 52-17 victory over the Pitt Panthers in a game in which they led 31-0 after one quarter of play. In this ep we discuss the return of QB Trevor Lawrence and his impact on the offense (17:59), and a defense that forced 5 turnovers in welcoming back Tyler Davis, Jaime Skalski and Mike Jones Jr. into the mix while also showcasing freshman talent (43:03). We wrap with a look around college, discuss the latest rankings, and consider potential matchup scenarios heading into the playoffs (1:07:54). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The Clemson Tigers went down to Tallahassee on Saturday looking to bounce back after their first loss of the season, only to be turned away by the FSU administration in an attempt to avoid further humiliation in a humbling first season under coach Mike Norvell Corona Virus. In doing so they almost assured that Dabo and the Tigers hang 100 on them the next time the two teams meet, which in our estimation may very well have been worth it. So in this ep we discuss the decision, the fallout and the inaugural College Football Playoff ranking for 2020. Enjoy and Go Tigers!!! (We attempted to get the FSU medical staff on for an interview but one of our hosts has COVID, so they declined out of an abundance of caution)
A depleted and mistake-prone Clemson Tiger football team went into South Bend on Saturday night and could not hang on against a Notre Dame squad that showed they could win on the big stage, as the Tigers were left to lick there wounds after a 47-40 2OT loss to the Irish. In this ep we discuss the rare regular season loss (1:04) in which the offense posted their worst rushing performance since 2011 (17:01), and the defense ran out of gas against a Notre Dame offense that proved much more capable than they let on in previous performances this year (49:30). We wrap with an outlook of the rest of Clemson’s season and how this loss and other factors may affect the Tigers’ playoff hopes. Enjoy, Go Tigers, and fingers crossed for a rematch.
The #1 Clemson Tigers overcame the absence of Trevor Lawrence after he tested positive for Covid late in the week, mounting the largest home comeback in school history en route to a 34-28 victory over Boston College. In this ep we discuss the rare closely-contested ACC matchup (00:55), as the offense rallied behind the play of the next in line of Clemson 5-star QBs, true freshman DJ Uiagalelei (22:48), and the defense made adjustments to stop the bleeding, holding the Eagles scoreless in the 2nd half (39:23). We then offer our early thoughts on the upcoming Notre Dame game before taking a look around a college football landscape that is nearly back to full strength, with the PAC-12 joining the fold this weekend (59:12). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The #1 Clemson Tigers turned it on late in a 47-21 win over the Syracuse Orange Saturday night, "escaping" with a four score victory that left fans somewhat uneasy about a somewhat erratic performance. In this episode we recap a game that saw the offense sputter at times (13:31), with miscues stalling drives and leading to points against a defense that played much better than it appeared on first watch (30:46). We also discuss the phenomenon that is Will Spiers, and a special teams unit that continues to struggle with blocked kicks (52:35). We wrap with a look at last week's games that saw the start of the Big 10 season, and look ahead to next week's games on the docket (1:00:34). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The #1 Clemson Tigers visited Bobby Dodd Saturday afternoon and ruthlessly exterminated the Yellow Jackets from Georgia Tech, showing no mercy to neither engineer nor scoreboard en route to a 73-7 victory in Atlanta. In this recap of the carnage, we discuss a Trevor Lawrence-led offense that seems to be hitting on all cylinders (10:15) and a defense that continues to flex its muscles behind wealth of talent and depth (41:06). We wrap with a look at last weeks notable games, discuss the absurdity of the rankings, and continue to state a case for this being the year a Group of 5 team makes the playoffs (58:28). After all, it is 2020... Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The 7th ranked Miami Hurricanes expected to downpour upon making landfall in Death Valley on Saturday night but could muster no more than a drizzle as the #1 Clemson Tigers accounted for most of the devastation en route to a 42-17 victory. In this ep we recap yet another blowout of a top 10 opponent as a dual threat of Heisman contenders on offense (18:00), combined with a talented and aggressive Brent Venables defense (37:35), let the “U” know that they are not, in fact, back, special teams’ woes aside (51:44). We wrap with a review of last weekend’s action, try to figure out which Group of Five team finally makes it into the playoffs, and take a look ahead to Georgia Tech (58:51). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The #1 Clemson Tigers faced their first test of the season in Death Valley on Saturday nigh against the reigning ACC Coastal champions, the Virginia Cavaliers, and, though pulling off an 18 point victory, head into next weekend's highly anticipated matchup against the #7 Miami Hurricanes with more questions than answers. In this ep we discuss the game and the struggles of a young, but talented, defense that gave up over 400 yards to the Cavaliers (3:13), a potentially lethal offense that has not quite yet found it’s identity (33:27), and a special teams unit that has quietly become a strength of this team (1:02:46). We wrap with a look ahead to the game against the Hurricanes this weekend and a look around at what continues to be an uncharted College Football landscape (1:06:58). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The #1 Clemson Tigers shelled The Citadel in front of 19k socially distanced fans in Death Valley on Saturday afternoon, scoring all 49 points in the first half in a game that saw 100+ Tigers get in on the action. In this ep we recap an offense (4:55) that, led by Heisman candidate Trevor Lawrence, was unstoppable behind the first team offensive line but stalled once the backups entered the game, failing to put up points in the 2nd half. We also take a look at the defense (29:47) which, on the other hand, dominated throughout behind the strength of a rebuilt defensive line unit led by the phenomenal true freshman Miles Murphy and Bryan Bresee. We wrap with a look around the ACC and begin to ponder Clemson’s path to the playoffs with the SEC now slated to start next week and the Big 10 back in the fold (48:26). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The Clemson Tigers are back for what is already shaping up to be an unusual and unpredictable 2020 college football season as, despite several key players not making the trip to Winston-Salem, presumably due to COVID-related precautions, the Tigers shook off some early rust in an eventual 37-13 route of Wake Forest on Saturday night. In this game recap we discuss an offense that once again opened up and found success in the passing game over the middle (8:16), a new look defense that returned to dominating the line of scrimmage (33:41), and a special teams unit now filled with veteran kickers who made their impact felt (44:54). We wrap with a look around college football and discuss the possibility of the Big 10 joining in on the action as conference officials continue to waffle on their decision (49:08). Either way, football is back. Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The Clemson Tigers take the field this Saturday in Winston-Salem to (hopefully) kickoff the 2020 football season against Wake Forest. In this annual season preview ep we break down the offensive (6:37), defensive (38:08) and special teams (1:07:34) squads that will lead the Tigers in seeking their 6th consecutive playoff birth, and 5th Nation Championship game appearance in that span, in what is now considered the new glory days of Clemson football. We then wrap with another quick look at the back-loaded regular season schedule and make our predictions for the College Football Playoffs and eventual national champion. Spot the damn ball and Go Tigers!!!
As the end of August Camp nears we are t-minus 3 weeks from the hopeful start of the College Football season and the dust has seemingly settled, for now, on which conferences are opting in or opting out of the 2020 campaign. While the lack of Big 10 participation the sport loses some luster but there is still plenty to be excited about as Trevor Lawrence, ETN, and a reloaded defensive line look to make it back to the playoffs for a 6th straight season. In this ep we discuss the fallout from the Big 10 debacle, catch up on the storylines and standouts on offense and defense two weeks into camp, and continue to search for something to excite us about this years schedule (aside from the fact we’d get to watch football this year). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
August camp kicked off for the Tigers this week and the ACC released the 2020 schedule, offering a glimmer of hope that we may see a football season this fall. In this ep we continue to weigh the prospects of playing a full season, discuss the schedule and player storylines heading into camp. Hope y’all are staying healthy out there. Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
And…We’re Back!!! Coming to you live from SIP and socially distanced, the Pawcast returns for it’s 6th season to discuss whether or not it will take place, and what it might look like if it does. If we do see football this Fall the Tigers will look to bounce back from a disappointing loss to LSU in last year’s National Championship Game, emerging as strong favorites for making their 6th consecutive playoff appearance and 5th title game over that span. 2020 has been a tough year to stomach for all thus far, but hopefully the return of sports will provide a welcome distraction. Spot the damn ball, now more than ever…Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The Clemson Tigers suffered their first loss in 30 games and failed to defend their national championship last Monday as Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow and the LSU Tigers reigned supreme in New Orleans. In this ep we recap the game and our experience in NOLA (1:36), offering our takes on what went wrong with the offense (16:29) and if there was anything the defense could have done to stop the combo of Joe Brady and Joe Burrow (27:44). We then take a look back on the 2019 season (41:12) before looking ahead to what 2020 has in store (48:28). Spoiler alert…we gonna be good. Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The #3 Clemson Tigers staged their 5th biggest comeback in school history on Saturday night as they rallied from a 16-0 deficit before going on to defeat the second ranked Ohio State Buckeyes 29-23 in the College Football Playoff Fiesta Bowl Semifinal. Clemson now heads to the Big Easy to take on the #1 LSU Tigers in hopes securing back-to-back national titles for the first time in school history. In this ep we recap the game and look ahead to New Orleans. Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE PAWCAST!!! The #3 Clemson Tigers make their 5th straight College Football Playoff appearance this weekend in the Fiesta Bowl as the #2 Ohio State Buckeyes look to unseat the defending national champion. Each team will face their toughest test of the season as two statistically elite offenses and defenses will be on display in what stands to be one of the best semifinal match-ups of the CFP era. In this ep we preview a game (4:31) that will showcase two elite QBs whose battle in the recruiting rankings two years ago finally finds its way to the field in Glendale. Justin Fields and the OSU offense will challenge a reloaded Clemson defense that has exceeded all expectations, albeit against vastly inferior competition (16:42). On the flip side Trevor Lawrence aims to continue his playoff dominance as a potent Clemson offense looks to overpower an OSU defense that, though greatly improved, has not faced a dynamic offense all year (30:46). And in a game between such evenly matched opponents special teams could be a major factor, an area in which OSU has a decided advantage (43:09). We wrap with our keys to the game and predictions for how we see it playing out (49:38). Spot. The. Damn. Ball. Go Tigers!!!
As the dust settles on the Early Signing Period, it looks like Clemson will sign the nation's #1 recruiting class in 2020. We brought in Quacking Tiger of Shakin the Southland to break down this year's class, impact on the 2020 team, the 2019 CFP matchups, and more. Enjoy the show!
For the 5th year in a row the Clemson Tigers are the champions of the ACC. A 62-17 victory in Charlotte on Saturday night secured Clemson’s spot in the College Football Playoff for the 5th straight time as well as the Tigers continue to defend last year’s title. In this ep we recap the game in which the offense was firing on all cylinders (8:32) but the defense had it’s fair share of hiccups in facing their toughest test to date (22:46). We wrap with a look at the other conference championship games that were played over the weekend and a discussion about Clemson’s fellow playoff contenders. Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
With a 38-3 win in Williams-Brice over the weekend the Clemson Tigers extended their win streak to 6 in their rivalry with South Carolina which has become somewhat of an afterthought given that the Tigers are now one win away from securing a 5th straight berth in the College Football Playoff. With the victory Clemson remained at #3 behind Ohio State and LSU in the penultimate playoff rankings as we head into conference championship weekend. In this ep we “rant” about the rankings, weak schedules, good wins and bad losses and make our predictions as to what the final field may look like come Sunday (2:46). We then reflect on the win over South Carolina as the Tigers continue to prove that they have one of the best offensive (29:32) and defensive (41:29) units in the country. We wrap with a lookahead to the upcoming ACC Championship game against the #23 Virginia Cavaliers in what looks to be Clemson’s toughest test of the year (55:36), not that that’s saying much... :shrug_emoji: Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
Clemson blew out Wake Forest 52-3 on Senior Day over the weekend as the Trevor Lawrence sitting in the stands drew more attention from the ABC television crew than did the game on the field. And with a 4th straight victory of 45 points or more the 11-0 Tigers held steady at #3 in the College Football Playoff rankings as the top 7 remained largely unchanged. In this ep we discuss the latest poll and the thinning of the herd after weekend that saw 2 more unbeatens fall and Alabama losing QB Tua Tagovailoa for the season with a hip injury (12:42). When then discuss another dominating performance by both the defense (37:00) and offense (50:24) in the victory over Wake before wrapping with a look at the ACC Coastal (1:03:45). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The Clemson Tigers took out their frustrations from being seeded outside of the top 4 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings by handing Dave Doeren and the N.C. State Wolfpack everything they deserved and more in a 55-10 thrashing in Raleigh on Saturday night. That, combined with losses by Alabama and Penn State, placed the Tigers right back where they belong at #3 in the latest poll. In this ep we discuss the rankings and action from over the weekend, ponder how Georgia could possibly be ranked #4 and describe a scenario in which three SEC teams could make it into the playoffs (3:04). We then recap the glorious annihilation of the Wolfpack as the offense continued to roll (31:03) and the defense held their 10th straight opponent to under 300 total yards (49:06). We wrap with a look around the ACC and try to predict who will claim the right for the opportunity to unseat Clemson in the ACC Championship game in 4 weeks (1:04:21). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
Fresh off of a 59-14 foregone conclusion of a victory over the Wofford Terriers on Saturday the Clemson Tigers debut at #5 in the inaugural 2019 College Football Playoff rankings despite winning their 24th game in a row and remaining undefeated since claiming their 2018 title. In this ep we the discuss the rankings, which will inevitably look much different a month from now once the playoff teams are announced, and express no cause for concern of an undefeated Clemson team being left out (7:04). We then briefly touch on the Tigers’ inconsequential pounding of the Terriers (44:30) before offering our mid-season-ish assessment of a team that has yet to peak (1:02:06). Win and we’re in, it’s as simple as that. Enjoy the show and Go Tigers!!!
Boston College was the latest victim of a surging Clemson offense and paralyzing defense on Saturday night as the Tigers preyed on the Eagles en route to a 59-7 thrashing on homecoming in Death Valley. Due to the wildfires in California we offer an abbreviated recap of the game, giving our takes on an offense (6:26) and defense (16:01) that are returning to championship form. We wrap with a look at the dwindling list of playoff contenders (19:39) and welcome the return of a beloved special guest to the Pawcast (23:06). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The Clemson Tigers continued their free fall in the AP Poll over the weekend as a 35 point win on the road at Louisville wasn’t enough to convince the AP voters that the ROY bus should remain parked in storage. As it turns out Clemson fans joked about it with each other themselves during a 1st half that saw Trevor Lawrence throw two interceptions and with the Tigers exiting up only 3 points more than Alabama was at the half, in Tuscaloosa, over a Tennessee team that had previously lost to Georgia State. And, yes, we acknowledge that Tua left midway through the 2nd half, but Chase Brice > Mac Jones. And we know, we get it, it doesn’t matter. It’s just fun to pick apart the logic... In this ep we reflect on Clemson’s 45-10 victory, the subsequent drop in the polls, and why you shouldn’t sucker punch someone who's wearing a protective polycarbonate helmet with titanium face mask #kirbynotsmart (5:15). We then touch on an offense that was far from perfect but still managed to rack up 551 yards (11:16) and discuss a quality effort from a defensive unit that continues to improve while also exceeding expectations (32:05). We wrap with a look around College Football in an attempt to determine if anybody has yet to actually play anyone, or if it’s really still just us and Alabama (48:45). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The Clemson Tigers bounced back after a close win against the Tarheels two weeks ago with a dominating performance over a hapless Florida State team, en route to a 45-14 victory in Death Valley on Saturday night. In this ep with discuss what this game meant for the team and the subsequent drop in the AP poll for the second week in a row (1:19). We then break down an offensive performance that was just what the doctor ordered (17:55) as well as another masterpiece from Brent Venables’ defense (31:50). We wrap with a look ahead to the Louisville game and a review of Week 7 in College Football (51:47). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
A week removed from a nerve-racking 21-20 victory over a resurgent UNC team in Chapel Hill, Clemson fans are searching for answers, albeit with less urgency having seen this story play out in the past. As it turns out the sky is not falling, despite the slip in the polls, and the #2 Tigers sit at 5-0 with no credible threat to their playoff bid should they finish the season undefeated. In this ep we offer up our takeaways from the game (1:32) and search for answers as to why what should be a prolific offense appears to be struggling early on (14:48). We also discuss what was another solid performance by the defense (30:30) and the good and bad on special teams (37:38). We wrap with a look around College Football right as conference match ups begin to heat up (47:05). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
On a night when Disney turned Death Valley into a movie set the Clemson Tigers cast of stars shone to the tune of 111 making an appearance on the big stage in the production of a 52-10 rout of UNC Charlotte. In this ep we discuss all of those cameos (4:33) before turning our focus to recruiting and the future stars in the pipeline (10:30), grasp for straws trying to find something to critique about the offense (19:39) and defense (36:04), then wrap with the other week 4 performances in College Football. Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
The #1 Clemson Tigers took care of business over the weekend with a 41-6 victory over Syracuse in the oxymoronic Carrier Dome. In this ep we recap the game (9:16) including our thoughts on yet another dominant defensive performance that squeezed the life out of the Orange (15:40), an offense that somehow put up prolific numbers while also looking rusty (27:21) and continued solid performances on special teams (42:28). We wrap by discussing if there’s any legitimate contenders left on the Tigers’ regular season schedule and with a look around College Football (45:18). Enjoy and Go Tigers!!!
