How does exercise fit into the weight loss equation?In this episode, I'm taking food off the table and chatting about exercise and movement. Throughout this podcast, I've talked about building a healthy relationship with food. Well, it's just as important to do that with exercise. When you start to exercise for the sole purpose of burning calories and losing weight- it tends to create a negative relationship with it, and it makes it really tough to build a habit. So many times, I've seen women mad at themselves for gaining those 10 pounds so they punish themselves with hours of trying to burn as many calories as possible and that's just no fun! They end up hating the process and giving up. Or, they are punishing themselves with exercise for something they ate. Movement and exercise gives you a sense of accomplishment and confidence. You feel stronger, have more energy, and feel empowered. These are the things you want to focus on. Today's burning question: Is intermittent fasting right for you? Intermittent fasting (IF) was the second most googled diet in 2020- - falling short to the keto enthusiasts. And it's something I am asked about often. Which is why in today's podcast, I'm talking all things intermittent fasting. I'm answering the questions:What is IF? What are the claims it makes and are they supported by the research?How can IF be a useful tool for some?How does IF backfire for some? You know I am all about simplifying weight loss and doing it in a way that feels good- taking out the strict rules and rigidity that send you spiraling into resistance and onto that yo-yo dieting merry go round. These rules aren't necessary and they're not sustainable. Weight loss comes when a calorie deficit is created. There are lots of strategies to do this. Intermittent fasting can be a useful tool to maintain this calorie deficit for some. My tip: Choose a strategy that feels best for you. That you can stick with consistently for the long haul.
