A new service aims to get ADHD assessments done more quickly and at less cost than from traditional clinics. ADHD Simple offers appointments in as little as three weeks, by holding online consultations. New rules for prescribing stimulant medication and diagnosing the condition came into effect this year. Company founder and chief executive, Cameron Houston, says they combine tech and people-power to undercut the competition. "We use some very clever AI technologies, for example, that summarise some of their work - that just makes it faster and it makes it easier for them to see patients faster." AI Didn't Speed Up My DiscoveryThere is a thing that happens in domain conversations. We talk about something, agree we understand it, and proceed. Then I show a sketch and the client says, “No, that is not what I meant.” The talking did not catch the gap. The visual did.AI lets me put a draft visual in front of a power user in the time it takes to have a conversation about it. Half-formed. Sometimes wrong on purpose. The draft becomes the thing we discuss. The client, who is the actual expert, validates or breaks it. Having "too many interests" is actually an advantage. The real problem is letting your interests stay scattered, because scattered knowledge feels useless until you connect it into something you can explain, test, or share.1. Stop Treating Dabbling Like Failure“Jack of all trades, master of none” is usually used as an insult. But the fuller version changes the point: “oftentimes better than master of one.” Every topic you've explored gave you vocabulary, patterns, and tools. Architecture, tarot, Japanese history, RPGs, psychology, AI, and self-development all become raw materials.2. Connect Your Skill TreesThink of your interests like RPG skill trees. You've put points into different branches, but the power comes from cross-classing them. Geek Psychology exists because personality type, role-playing games, World of Warcraft, hypnosis, and self-development got mashed together. Original ideas often come from connecting two or three fields other people keep separate.3. Use AI to Speed Up the Loading PhaseDon't ask AI to replace your thinking. Ask it to orient you faster. Use it to find the first principles, the Pareto 20%, and the core concepts of a new domain. Then bring in your own judgment and ask, “What does this remind me of?”4. Turn Ideas Into ObjectsIdeas aren't finished while they're still floating in your head. Make a diagram, prompt, video, essay, framework, or tool. Once it exists outside your mind, you can explain it, stress-test it, improve it, and share it.5. Build the Weird ThingYour random interests are not the problem. The missing step is turning them into something in the real world.

Whether you're building a business, restoring furniture, raising a family, or trying to find your footing during a difficult season in your, there's power in learning to stop constantly chasing the next thing and embracing the discipline of slowing down.Because sometimes the people who look like they're moving the slowest are actually building the strongest foundation. This is a conversation about patience and perspective, and why being fully present today often creates the momentum that changes everything tomorrow.

In this episode, Duane Osterlind talks with Nawal Roy, the visionary behind Holmusk, the world's largest clinical data platform for mental health. After a successful career in finance, Nawal pivoted to healthcare, driven by the realization that mental health is one of the most complex, yet least quantified, areas of medicine. They dive deep into how Holmusk has spent 11 years building a "scientific-grade" database of over 42 million patients, shifting mental health care away from "hunches and poetry" toward precision and evidence-based science.Key Discussion PointsThe Data Gap in Mental Health: Historically, mental health treatment has relied on clinician intuition rather than hard data. Nawal explains how Holmusk "normalizes" messy, unstructured electronic health records to create a searchable, scientific database. The 10-Year Wait: Data reveals a heartbreaking reality: the average journey from the onset of symptoms to receiving meaningful care is 8 to 10 years.Ending the Trial-and-Error Cycle: A typical acute patient might cycle through 10 to 12 different medications over 18 months before finding what works. Nawal discusses how large-scale data can help clinicians find the right treatment faster. The Power of Comorbidity: Mental health doesn't exist in a vacuum. Treating depression can significantly improve outcomes for physical conditions like diabetes, yet these are often treated as separate issues.Measurement-Based Care: Nawal argues that "engagement is not outcome." He highlights the desperate need to move toward a system that measures functional improvement (like GAF or CGI scores) rather than just "showing up for therapy."AI and the Future of Psychiatry: How Holmusk is using Natural Language Processing (NLP) to "read" thousands of unstructured doctor's notes and train AI models to provide clinically accurate—not just "nice sounding"—guidance."Mental health is currently closer to poetry than science... we need to bring the level of rigor found in pediatric oncology to the mental health community." — Nawal Roy"You can't improve what you don't measure. If we have data, we can actually make real, significant change to people's lives." — Duane OsterlindBig TakeawaysDemand Data: Patients and stakeholders should demand that mental health be treated with the same clinical rigor as physical health.Outcome over Engagement: Simply attending sessions isn't enough; we must measure whether the patient is actually getting better. The Role of AI: AI has the potential to democratize access to care, but it must be trained on massive, clinically valid datasets to avoid "hallucinations" and provide safe, effective support.Resources MentionedHolmusk: holmusk.comNeuroBlue: Holmusk's flagship data analytics platform.ACE Study: Referenced by Duane regarding Adverse Childhood Experiences and their long-term health impacts.LinkedIn: Nawal Roy Follow and Review: We'd love it even more if you could drop a review or 5-star rating over on Apple Podcasts. If you've ever felt like your body is working against you…like you gain weight easily but have to fight so hard to lose it…this episode is going to shift everything you thought you knew about metabolism.Today, I break down one of the most misunderstood topics in health — and replace the “eat less, move more” narrative with something far more powerful:Your metabolism hasn't failed you. It's adapting.1. A Slow Metabolism Is Protection — Not a ProblemA slow metabolism doesn't mean your body is failing. It means your body is doing its job. When your system perceives stress, restriction, or instability, it shifts into conservation mode — holding onto energy as a survival response.Your body is choosing safety.2. Are You a Sugar Burner or a Fat Burner?Your body can run on two primary fuel sources:Sugar (quick energy)Fat (stored energy)But when you're constantly feeding your body, especially with sugar, it stops accessing stored fat. This is what leads to:constant hungerenergy crashesstrong cravingsfeeling dependent on food to function3. Metabolic Flexibility (What You Actually Want)Your body is designed to switch between fuel sources. But when you've trained it to expect food constantly, it loses that ability.Signs you may be stuck in sugar-burning mode:You get hangry quicklyYou feel dizzy or lightheadedYour energy crashes easilyYou crave sugar constantly4. Hormones Follow Your Nervous SystemWhen stress is high, hormones shift.Cortisol risesInsulin becomes harder to regulateYour body starts seeking quick energy — not stored energy. And this isn't about willpower. It's about survival.5. Your Nervous System Controls Your MetabolismWhen you're in protection mode (fight-or-flight):your body slows metabolic processesyou crave fast energyyou store more fatBecause sugar is faster to access than fat, your body will always choose it when it feels unsafe.6. Gut Health Plays a Bigger Role Than You ThinkYour gut is responsible for:nutrient absorptioninflammation regulationproducing feel-good chemistryWhen your body is stressed, digestion is deprioritized — which impacts how efficiently you metabolize food.7. The Real Way to Speed Up Your MetabolismNot restriction. Not over-exercising.Not control. The shift happens when you:move from protection → safetyregulate your nervous systemreduce emotional stressstop binge-restrict cyclesWhen your body feels safe, it naturally:balances hormonesreduces cravingsaccesses stored fatreleases weight sustainablyStruggling with emotional or binge eating? Send us Fan MailCan you actually speed up hair growth — or is that the wrong question? In this episode, I'm unpacking one of the most common questions I hear in clinic, particularly from those navigating hair loss and conditions like Alopecia Areata. We explore what is really happening beneath the surface when hair isn't growing as expected, why regrowth can stall at fine, vellus hair, and what may be blocking the transition to stronger, terminal hair.Rather than focusing on quick fixes or isolated solutions, this episode takes a systems-based view — looking at how immune activity, inflammation, energy, hormones, and the nervous system all influence hair growth.I also share insights from emerging research, including how hair is not simply “pushed” from the follicle but involves coordinated cellular activity, and where tools like red light therapy may fit in.This is about shifting your perspective — from trying to force hair growth… to understanding what your body needs in order to support it.

Have an idea or tip? Send us a text!AI is moving fast, but the real advantage isn't sounding smart, it's getting work done faster without breaking your team. Gary Pageau of The Dead Pixels Society sits down with Elias Jo, CEO of Entourage Yearbooks, to talk about what's actually changing inside the yearbook and volume photography workflow and what studios of every size can do right now to keep up.Joe digs into how Entourage built a technology layer around yearbook production, from a Canva-like yearbook builder to online sales and a redundant print network designed for today's supply chain reality. Then he discusses practical uses for artificial intelligence in business: Why “AI as search” is a dead end, where the 20% to 30% efficiency gains are coming from, and how mid-size photography companies can push their SaaS tools, CRM systems, and automation platforms to work together instead of creating more spreadsheet pain. One of the most actionable moments is Jo's simple model for “AI talking to AI” using ChatGPT plus app builders like Lovable to prototype a tool that cleans messy school data and turns it into a repeatable process. We also talk about AI for content creation and podcast production, why human review still matters, and what an AI-first world could look like when prompts start replacing traditional applications. The Climb with Cherie Clonan The Climb is a podcast for people building something meaningful and finding their..Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifyMediaclipMediaclip strives to continuously enhance the user experience while dramatically increasing revenue.Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREEIndependent Photo ImagersIPI is a member + trade association and a cooperative buying group in the photo + print industry.Photo Imaging CONNECTThe Photo Imaging CONNECT conference, March 2027, at the RIO Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas, NDisclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. What if “home” is not a place, but a feeling your body can learn again? This episode is a deep, unscripted conversation about what it really means to feel at home — not the place you live, but the feeling of being safe, grounded, and fully yourself. Drawing on the energy of the root chakra, the discussion explores why so many people feel disconnected from their foundations — and what it actually takes to come back. From the nervous system and ancestral fear patterns to the surprising power of eye contact, nature, and silence, the conversation is honest, playful, and thought-provoking. It asks the questions most people never stop long enough to ask themselves: Where do I feel safe? What am I afraid of? Do I have enough — and what does enough even mean? Most of us know exactly what we need to change — we just keep putting it off, and that avoidance is costing us more than we realize. In this episode, I get real about my own struggle with slowing down and celebrating wins, and I break down the honest process of moving from awareness to actual change. Whether your blind spot is rest, celebration, patience, or something else entirely, this one is going to hit home. Key Takeaways Celebrating too long can leave you vulnerable — keep the parade short and get back to work. Acknowledgment is not weakness — it is the first and hardest action step toward real change. Getting around people who excel at what you struggle with forces you to see it through a new lens. Your dog, your environment, and everyday moments can be unexpected teachers if you stop long enough to notice. Playing the "why not" game breaks down the resistance to doing things differently and opens the door to growth. Action Steps Identify one area of your life you have been ignoring or putting off, and say it out loud to yourself — acknowledgment is where change begins. Find someone in your life who excels at what you struggle with and spend intentional time around them to shift your perspective. Start playing the "why not" game — ask yourself what you actually have to lose by doing things differently, and let the answer push you forward. Notable Quote Slowing down is the best way to speed up.
