Today, I'm trying something new. Actually, I've been trying a lot of new things lately. Stepping outside of the ol comfort zone. I've found that this is where I experience the most growth so why the heck not. Today I'm going to chat about how trying new things can actually enhance your life, as scary as it may seem at first to try. It's the end of an era - by that I mean I'm moving out of the apartment I've lived in for the last few years. It has me feeling all sorts of feels. So I decided to share those candidly with you all. Sometimes change can be tough. I'm processing some complex emotions at the moment that have me scratching me head like what? Come on this journey with me as I lay down new roots in a new city and begin a new chapter in this book called life. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/girlversusworld)
So you fancy yourself a great communicator? Maybe that's been an area of your life you've had to work really hard on - communication. I come from a background of codependency where communicating my own needs has been a downright struggle. So you've worked really hard to learn how to communicate and you find yourself a new partner and you communicate til your blue in the face. What's the problem now? They aren't comprehending you. This can be one of those struggles that creates anger and frustration and lots of fighting in a relationship. You're a communicator and you're communicating but the person you're communicating too just isn't getting it. Maybe they also aren't reciprocating the communication either and you find yourself just stuck! This can also be a sign that you might still be repeating a pattern of codependency as you are choosing people who don't get you. You'll spend hours communicating and trying to MAKE them understand and they just can't. It's maddening. In today's episode, we're going to chat about it and perhaps find some resolution here. Do you self persecute? Do you have a tendency to make yourself out to be the bad guy in virtually ever scenario? Maybe you've gone through a breakup and you're sitting around just blaming yourself. Or you lost a job or ran out of money and you beat yourself up over the failure of it all. I'm here to tell you to knock that shit off right now! Self persecution, while it may keep you humble at times, will only lead to hurt and pain in the long run. it can hold you back from reaching your full potential. So I'm here today to share some of my story and how to stop self persecuting so you can move onward and upward. Support the show
Happy New Year! We are back with a new season of Girl Versus World. In this episode we are going to talk about setting our intention for the year. Instead of setting a resolution that adds to your ever growing to do list - we are going to set an intention to "say no" to something or "let something go". I intend to make 2022 a year of letting things go and make ourselves lighter. So lets explore this idea of being able to say no to the things in our lives that no longer serve us or letting go of some old habits or things that have been holding us back in previous years. It's not going to be easy by any means, but it's going to worthwhile. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/girlversusworld)
Dating apps quite frankly, suck sometimes. If you've been on them for any length of time, you know what I'm talking about. It's frustrating. There's a lot of ghosting, fake profiles and if you're not down with the hookup culture, you're probably gonna have a bad time. So if you're like me and you work from home and struggle to meet people, then apps are the necessary evil in your life. I've come up with some helpful tips to help you find love in the swipe left and right culture of today's day and age. Mental heath check? How are you doing? As for me, I took a few months off to get my mind right. After receiving some urging from my therapist, I decided to take a break from lots of things and just focus on my mental health. I started an intensive codependency group therapy regimin to start the healing process from my past relationships while helping me make sure I speak up for my own wants and needs in my future relationships. In this episode, I catch you up on what's been going on in my world. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/girlversusworld)
This one is a doozy! You see, in life, many of us are taught that we are powerless. Why? I haven't quite figured out when this became the way to get people to change but it's used in many religions and programs. In order to be healed one must first admit they are powerless. There ARE times in our life where we feel powerless and it's sometimes a good thing to admit it. This is all fine and well but we don't have to stay powerless. In fact, I'm going to encourage you today to move from this space of powerless into a space of powerful. If you are ready to move from powerless to powerful - then this is the episode for you! Falling in love with a narcissist is intoxicating. They spend a lot of time mirroring the best parts of yourself back to you. You're actually falling in love with many of your own great qualities that you likely have a hard time seeing in yourself. The narcissist spends a lot of time learning what makes you tick and where they can insert themselves and do the most damage. Once you are hooked, then the control and manipulation begins. You become obsessed with trying to get those feelings you once had at the beginning of the relationship where the narcissist made you feel like no one else ever had. You fantasize and hold on to that idea as they gaslight you and make you feel like a crazy person. This is a cycle that will continue until you find the strength to end it. Only YOU can do it and I'm here today to share what happened to me in hopes that it will help you see what you should do for yourself. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/girlversusworld)
I realized this week that sometimes happiness can hurt. You can probably relate to this if you've had a tough life. A person can get used to being stepped on and walked over in their life. So much so that when things start to actually happen for the better, it leaves them with a feeling like the other shoe is about to drop. A sense of impending doom even. Other times you might start to feel pain because you realize that you've lived your life struggling for so long that when things start to go good, it's a tough realization you're met with. On today's episode I share a little about my struggle recently with happiness, well, hurting. This is a question that came up recently - Are photo filters ruining our self esteem? We see them being used on virtually every social media outlet. Sometimes we know for sure someone is using a filter and other times maybe it's photo shop or real life. It used to be that we knew that magazines and print were all photoshopped to some degree and we were okay with that. But now, it's getting harder and harder to tell and often times when the filter comes off, we are left feeling bad about ourselves. There is no filter for real life. In today's episode, I talk about the affect that the filters seem to be having on our self esteem. I even polled some of my own friends to get their feedback on the matter. Every single person is going through something or has gone through something that has brought them to their breaking point one way or another. We sometimes get this idea in our heads that other people are perfect. I hate to break it to you but they are not. Nobody is perfect. Not a single person out there. So to compare ourselves to other imperfect beings is futile. If we go into this world with the understanding that everyone is at least a little fucked up - then we can stop comparing ourselves and judging our own journeys so harshly. In this episode I bust open the idea that we should have compassion on all humans because we truly don't know who they are, what they are going through or what they've been through that makes them who they are today. When you understand that how people treat you rarely has anything to actually do with you - you can have empathy and compassion. I didn't learn this until much later in life that you have to invest time in self discovery. Nobody really teaches us this, it's something we learn in adulthood. But how does one go about actually finding themselves? Go on a walkabout? Have an Eat Pray Love experience? Give up everything and start over? Sure, you could do those things if you want - for some of us self discovery is more extreme. However, it doesn't have to be that extreme at all. You could simply start right now and I'll talk you through how on this episode of Girl Versus World.Don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss a single episode!New episodes every Wednesday at 12pm PST! ------------------------------------Find out more about Girl Versus World Read More on my Blog: http://www.girlversusworld.comWant video? Starting over gets a bad reputation. Often times people see starting over as a failure. What if you could actually look at starting over as a success? I've had to start over several times in my life and each time I've had to reset my life, it's gotten better and better. Instead of starting over from scratch, I've started over with experience and THAT is what has made all the difference in the world. Are you having trouble focusing? Do you find yourself picking up your phone in-between tasks or while you are just sitting around doing nothing? Maybe it's the only think you can really focus on for hours at a time. It's time for a reality check - you might be suffering from a social media addiction, fomo or even some social media related depression that you keep feeding the longer you stare into that tiny screen. The world is different now - we perceived everything through a digital screen and it's having a major affect on the way people think and behave. It's a side affect of constantly comparing ourselves to other. We are watching others and feel like we aren't doing enough in your own lives based on seeing someone else's highlight reel of their life. It's taking a toll on everyone. I struggle with this constantly and it's time to talk about it. Plus, I'm going to share what I'm doing to actively overcome it. It's easy to get stuck in survival mode - especially if you've been in survival mode for years going through things like family drama, trauma, addiction, codependency, financial hardship or whatever else might have triggered your survival instincts. Sometimes though, you get stuck in that mode, even after you've gotten through the worst of things. In this episode I talk about what it's like to get stuck in that mode and how to pull yourself out of it so you can move forward.Don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss a single episode!New episodes every Wednesday at 12pm PST! ------------------------------------Find out more about Girl Versus World Read More on my Blog: http://www.girlversusworld.comWant video? We've all been there, that moment where you throw your hands in the air because you just can't take it anymore. In relationships, this is called "the straw that broke the camels back" moment. There's a final thing that just causes you to boil over and give up on the relationship. Ive had these moments many times in relationships and called it quits. I stumbled across an article that described this moment perfectly and today I want to share that with you all. Perhaps it will help you save your relationships or better understand why past ones have failed. I know it did for me!Don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss a single episode!New episodes every Wednesday at 12pm PST! ------------------------------------Find out more about Girl Versus World Read More on my Blog: http://www.girlversusworld.comWant video? A part of recovery and therapy involves letting go of resentments. It's a huge step in AA where you have to write down all the resentments and then work on letting each one of them go. I'm going to be honest with you, my list is hella long! So I'm sharing this one with you all. This is a resentment I will never be able to resolve with the person involved so for the sake of letting this one go, I took it upon myself to figure out a way to let the resentment go, heal and move on. This story is taking it back to my teen years and I share the unorthodox was that I freed myself from this resentment in a series I"m calling releasing resentments.Don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss a single episode!New episodes every Wednesday at 12pm PST! ------------------------------------Find out more about Girl Versus World Read More on my Blog: http://www.girlversusworld.comWant video? I'm going to let you in on a little secret that you might not even know about yourself - You are worthy and need to be reminded. Many of us have an internal struggle going on that has to do with feeling worthy. You might not even recognize that you're constantly talking yourself out of the things you want out of this life. It's time to come to terms with this part of yourself and work toward a place of worthiness where you can start saying yes to yourself. I share some of the struggles I face on a daily basis and what I've done to boost my self esteem and go after the things I'm worthy of.Don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss a single episode!New episodes every Wednesday at 12pm PST! ------------------------------------Find out more about Girl Versus World Read More on my Blog: http://www.girlversusworld.comWant video? I've had a fear of public speaking since I was young. When I say a fear of public speaking, I don't just mean that I get nervous. I'm talking - it's a full body experience. My stomach churns, my heart races, my chest gets hot and my vocal chords stutter. To make matters worse, my throat starts to close up and it gets so bad that I even pass out. How embarrassing! I lived with this crippling fear for years and it stopped me from doing pretty much everything I wanted to do. That was until one day. This is the story about that one day that changes everything. Are you on the struggle bus when it comes to sitting down, focusing and then getting stuff done? I've ridden that bus for years and I've had to fight really hard to get through that. The resistance has been made worse because I've chosen the arts as a career goal. Instead of wanting to go after a college degree - I have wanted a very different path for my life. That comes with a societal pressure and predisposition to everyone saying you should have a back up plan. It has a built in sense of resistance. I'm here to tell you that you can fight against all of that and still do what you want to do. I'm going to give you actionable steps to make that happen in this episode. I was a huge fan of Game of Thrones - specifically of Khaleesi or her much more official name Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons. So when my therapist recommended a children's book about Dragons - I was in! In this episode - I cover what this book meant to me and how I've been using it to slay the dragons in my life and how you can start doing it too. I mean, who doesn't want to be a dragon slaying queen.
