But we talk all about our history of relationships and how idealizinng relationships and creating rom coms in our head has lead us to staying in relationships that likely dont really serve us. Plus she shares about how she has overcome abuse, past codependent tendencies + some more details about her marriage, and her called off engagement that she hasn't ever really shared publicly. I know this was a super open, honest and vulnerable convo and I am so proud of her for opening up because I know she hasn't felt like she could share full truths of everything that was going on in her life over the last 1.5 years. Takeaways Stephanie's journey of self-discovery began after going to rehab at 19, which sparked her journey of self-love and self-worth. How Stephanie's past abusive relationships have affected her self-worth and reactions in current relationships. Reactive abuse occurs when someone reacts to abusive behavior, and the abuser turns the situation around to make the reactive person the problem. It is important to address personal issues while single and not idealize relationships. Stephanie wanted to be saved in her relationships, but realized she had to save herself. Domestic abuse affects millions of women worldwide. It can feel extremely debilitating to be stuck in an abusive relationship, and even more difficult to find the courage to bring oneself out of those situations. For Drew Reinhardt, what started as a vacation to Nicaragua turned into a life transformation. Drew tells her story of her time living in a small town in Nicaragua, during a time of extreme instability. Her own hardships led her to create a support system for women in the community through fitness groups, which eventually led to the formation of a female empowerment organization (Mujeres Que Mueven), fostering deep change in their town. We chat about navigating complicated cultural differences, creating supportive education systems and learning to self-prioritize in difficult situations.Resources:Drew's organization (donate here): https://www.mujeresquemueven.org/homeNational Domestic Violence Hotline: https://www.thehotline.org/Connect with us at https://surfwithamigas.com/ or @surfwithamigas.

Today's guest is Rosemary Tong Davidson. Rosemary lives in Los Angeles, California, with her husband, Ronnie. Rosemary's childhood was unstable, and she suffered both verbal and physical abuse. When she was 8 years old, her aunt and uncle gave her a Bible tract, and she prayed to receive Jesus in her heart. However, her view of herself was damaged due to the abuse and rejection she experienced as a child. Even after she rededicated her life to God as an adult, her walk with God continued to be a sin-confess-sin-confess cycle, and she didn't understand God's love for her. Not until a couple of years ago when Rosemary was given The Bondage Breaker by Neil Anderson. After reading the book and working through The Steps to Freedom in Christ, Rosemary felt a huge weight lifted. She experienced freedom from tormenting thoughts, and a peace she'd never known. But what impacted her the most was understanding God as her Father and His great love for her. Today, she is overflowing with God's love and passionate about shining her Father's light wherever she goes. Dana S. Diaz studied journalism and psychology at DePaul University. While there's no better teacher than life experience and Dana has had life-long experiences with narcissistic abuse, her education did give her the ability to accurately verbalize and express how narcissistic abuse creates confusion and conflict within victims. Today, Dana is a proud voice for fellow victims who are unable, afraid, or ashamed to share their experiences. She strives to create awareness and understanding to ensure victims are given the support they need to first understand their situation and then begin the healing process. Her first book, chronicling her own abusive marriage that lasted nearly three decades, started as a journal that she hid under the couch cushion in the basement. When she isn't speaking out on narcissistic abuse, Dana can be found listening to music by Eric Hutchinson, Elle King, Green Day, Amy Winehouse, Julia Michaels and Taylor Swift. She equally loves her gray Converse shoes (she wears them every day!) and her Toyota FJ Cruiser. Dana watches the sun rise and set every single day, and enjoys hikes in the woods. She absolutely loves animals for their sensitivity and loving hearts, and has two cats, Kitty Kitty and Tigger. Dana makes her home in Illinois with her husband Doug. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/new-mind-creator/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/new-mind-creator/support

Are you sick and tired of repeating the same old cycles and wondering if it is even possible to break free from the anxiety, pain, or emotional or mental struggle? It is! Today, Michelle introduces a new series on her Emotional Freedom Framework that will help you to take back your power and break free from the things that hold you back from the life you really want to live and were created by God to live.
Today, I interview Sally Lotz whose early life was marked by the strict rules and limitations imposed by her family's conversion to Jehovah's Witnesses. In this oppressive environment, she endured abuse from her stepfather, forcing her to suppress her true self and become invisible. Sally's journey stands as a testament to the power of finding one's voice and using it to empower others. At the tender age of 15, a revelation sparked within Sally when her mother discovered her non-Jehovah's Witness boyfriend. Confronted by the Elders, she witnessed the stark disparity in how her stepfather's actions went unpunished while her innocent connection with a boy resulted in harsh correction. It was during this tumultuous period that Sally discovered her voice, her means of expression and resistance against the injustices that plagued her life. Writing became her refuge, an outlet through which she could share her thoughts and feelings without fear of retribution. Yet, even in her newfound solace, she had to conceal her writings, stashing them away in her school locker or disposing of them to avoid detection. Forced to leave home at the age of 16, Sally sought shelter with her father, where she experienced an entirely different reality. As an only child in her father's care, she finally found a supportive presence, someone who listened and encouraged her to explore new horizons. However, the trauma she had endured lingered within her, manifesting as severe anxiety attacks and depression that confined her to the confines of her home. It was during this period of struggle that Sally, now a mother herself, embarked on a profound journey of self-discovery, unearthing her voice once more. Now, Sally is a writer dedicated to crafting stories for children. Her literary works bear the underlying themes of hope, purpose, and compassion, offering inspiration to young readers while championing the underdog in subtle and captivating ways. In addition to her writing endeavors, she is currently a mentor and writing coach, running a program called "Write a Book in 30 Days: No Experience Required." Sally recently published her fourth book, "The Truth Is A Lie," a fictional work that delves into her experiences within the Jehovah's Witness community, exposing the contradictions and control within the organization extending her support to women seeking to share their own transformative tales of life changes, epiphanies, and pivots. She believes that by helping others find their voice, she empowers them to overcome adversity and thrive, offering a guiding light amidst the darkest of times.__________________ Sally Lotz is a writing coach, assisting women in sharing their own stories of transformation, guiding them through life's challenges and pivotal moments. Your life story is different from anyone elses, and like most of us, it has had some points of pain. However, we can choose to bury the pain only to have it eventually bubble up and cause more pain, or we can work to gently bring small bits of our pain story to life with safe people, one step at a time as we can tolerate it. Safe and helpful relationships are possible, and healing is possible. If you would like to overcome anxiety, emotional hurt, or mental pain, it starts with getting honest about where you need help and healing and then taking a small brave step to recognize you are worth it. From there, you can bring your pain to light to get hope and help.
Continuing the series on the different parts of us that give insight as to where mental health healing and trauma recovery may affect us, Michelle shares about noticing the responses in the body with curiousity and awareness to learn of areas which may need care.
