Billie Anne is back—and she's not holding back. In this fiery episode of The CrossYaas Podcast, she's joined by Sarah (beaming in from Scotland) for a raw, no-BS conversation about the global rise in anti-trans hate, political scapegoating, and the terrifying echoes of history we're living through. Together, they name names, spill truths, and share what it means to survive—and thrive—as trans women in a world that wants to erase them. It's angry. It's honest. It's radical. It's necessary. We dive into trans joy, rebellion as authenticity, and the power of showing up for each other. This cut, from Julie London's album of the same name, became a camp classic. It's undeniably bawdy, with the torch songstress purring like a mod Mae West, with tongue solidly in cheek. The original, generated by neutered, pre-fab bobble heads, The Ohio Express, is a prepubescent rocker, lacking any lubriciousness whatsoever, but, emanating from Julie's throat it's an open invitation to bed, or a post-coital pillow declaration.Julie is Her Name, her first album, was released in 1955, and YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY was her last, arriving in 1969, when she was 43 years old. Being an aging sex star is hard, but doing it in the 1960s during the youth movement must have been agonizing. Following this, she retired from recording altogether to concentrate on her acting career, which served her well. In '72, her ex-husband, Jack Webb, cast her in the tv show Emergency! alongside her current spouse Bobby Troup,- (the composer of Route 66) - and that show lasted 6 years. In 2000, throat cancer claimed the life of the sultry voiced siren, after a lifetime of dedicated smoking. She was 74, leaving behind a discography full of yearning and heartache. I discovered her decades after her Hey Day, on a collection of Lounge numbers, and was smitten.

Set within the context of their senior year in high school, the story captures the intensity of teenage emotions, societal pressures, and the struggles of identifying one's sexual orientation. Brianna is a confident, popular cheerleader who appears to have her life perfectly mapped out. However, as she navigates her final year of high school, she finds herself struggling with her feelings when she is partnered with Kylie, a more introverted and artsy girl who is not part of Brianna's usual social circle. The two have a fraught history that leads to tension and misunderstandings, but as they are forced to work together on a school project, their relationship begins to shift. Kylie, on the other hand, is a character transitioning from being the outcast to confronting her own feelings. As someone who has often been overlooked, she grapples with her identity, her family's expectations, and the desire for love and acceptance. Through their evolving relationship, Brianna and Kylie experience a range of emotions—from frustration to attraction—leading them to question their preconceptions about love and each other. They both face external conflicts including family dynamics and friendship tensions, as they explore their romantic feelings for one another, paving the way for personal growth and self-acceptance. Ultimately, "She Drives Me Crazy" tackles themes of self-discovery, the complexities of teenage love, and the importance of staying true to oneself while navigating the choppy waters of personal relationships and societal expectations.
